[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_04] Hi everybody, Mike Bloom hier, welcoming you back for coverage of the third and final season of Squid Game. It's been only six months since we last talked about the hit Netflix series. It was a big post Christmas Day hit and now summer is upon us and things are heating up on that island as we will get into the final batch of episodes from the hit Korean series.
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_04] But of course, I am not alone here. I am joined and will be joined every day to recap this upcoming season by the one, the only Chappelle.
[00:01:46] [SPEAKER_01] The Squid Days are here. We're back, Mike. I'm so excited. This is crazy. We didn't have to wait 10 years. This is great.
[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_04] I mean, that's the thing is, depending on who you ask, it has kind of felt like 10 years since the last season came out. The end of 2024 seems like a completely different time period in so many ways. But regardless, to your point, we only had to wait half a year, which is nothing compared to the three years between seasons, basically between seasons one and two. But it was worth the wait. All seven episodes of season two dropped at the end of last year.
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_04] And tomorrow, June 27th, 2025, the final batch of six episodes will drop. It was revealed before season two, I believe that the creator, director and writer, Hong Dong-hyuk, had, you know, sort of created, written and shot seasons two and three together, essentially.
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_04] And for those of us who watch season two, and we'll certainly get into what you need to be reminded of before season three, it made a lot of sense considering the pause that we end up taking the massive cliffhanger that things are left on at the end of season two. So I imagine that given where a lot of things lie, we're going to pick right back up from where things left off for season three. That includes our coverage as well, Chappelle.
[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah, I think having season three so close, but like closely behind season two, it's very good for the show, honestly, because I saw the responses from season two. People were kind of like, it wasn't season one, you know, season one was this phenomenon and people couldn't stop talking about it. We got reality show spinoffs and parodies everywhere of Squid Game. And then season two happened and people were just like, it's not the same.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_01] It kind of missed some of the magic of season one, whether it was the lack of some of the games that we had known to grow in love in that first season, or maybe it was just there was more plot to move around the second time around. We were following more characters. But now we have season three and it's time to wrap this thing up, to put the baby to bed for all intents and purposes.
[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_04] And so there might be a baby to bed as we'll get into with one particular character.
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_01] Exactly. And so I think that like now is the time to really drag people back into the world of Squid Game back into this incredible story of where of poverty and struggle and, you know, just the the will to survive. And, you know, it's a dark time everywhere these days, you know, all the time. And so sometimes you just need to be able to disconnect from your own darkness and go into other people's darkness and enjoy the ride.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_01] So I'm excited to see what season three has to bring, but also to see if they're able to stick the landing in a way that I wasn't so sure after season two.
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. So we are giving the green light to not only this season, but all of our coverage. We are doing the same thing that we did for season two, which is Chappelle and they are going to be providing daily recaps of Squid Game at season three. So we are going to watch an episode, pause, talk about the episode, having not seen anything that follows there in and then keep going. So please join us for the ride. This is a collaboration between We Know Scripted TV and Nothing But Netflix.
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_04] You can go to WeKnowScriptedTV.com or Chappelle. How can people subscribe to Nothing But Netflix?
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01] Nothing But Pod.com. Yeah. If you go there and you hit subscribe, it'll subscribe you to the podcast. You can follow it. But, you know, Nothing But Netflix has been on the RHIP YouTube page as well. I don't know if this is going to be on the We Know Scripted YouTube page or maybe the RHIP YouTube page. Regardless, if you subscribe, you'll figure it out. You'll find out. Make sure you subscribe to Nothing But Pod, subscribe to Nothing But Netflix, and then follow at Nothing But RHIP on all social media platforms to look out for those links as they appear.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01] So, yeah, this is the last crossover event for Nothing But Netflix when it comes to Squid Game and maybe more to come.
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_04] So let's get into what we need to be reminded of between seasons two and three, because, again, it's only been six months. But if you didn't necessarily revisit the series and, again, assuming things pick up basically right from where we left off, you might need a little bit of a catch up as to what's been going on and the major parties involved. So before we get really into the who, let's start with the what. So season two of Squid Game, I'm talking specifically about what happened in season two.
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_04] If you need a recap about what Squid Game is about in season one, we actually did that before season two as well. But we're coming in with the assumption that you all have watched the first two seasons of Squid Game and just need a quick reminder as to what have you done for me lately. So season two of Squid Game largely focuses around, of course, our main character, the man we knew as player four or five, six song.
[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_04] He played by Emmy winner Lee Jung Jay, who won his version of the Squid Game, was able to, you know, basically, you know, walk into the sunset with four point five, six billion won, which is a hell of a lot of money, even in U.S. currency. But at the end of season one, when he spied a familiar face trying to recruit people for more games,
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_04] he decided that it was time to drop everything he did and focus on a new mission. Chappelle Daenerys Targaryen style. He who has a mission that personified throughout season two and assumingly throughout season three. Re enter the Squid Game to try to blow it up from the inside.
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah. And this is a crazy plan because we know winning the Squid Game one time is a feat in and of itself. People have to die. You have to survive all of that. But to go back in and say, OK, this wasn't good enough. I need to stop this thing. It's very admirable idea. But also it comes with a lot of layers. You know, more people have to die. More competition has to be. And you have to get invited back into this weekend. Like you have to get brought back in. And so a lot of reality.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_04] The contestants have been talking recently about how tough it is to get that call to return.
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01] Sometimes you're right there at the finish line and they say nay, and you have to go to a different game completely. And so this man will now dedicate years of his life to like or, you know, a great deal of his life to trying to figure out a way to not only get back in this game, but to also win the Squid Game. And that is, you know, a monument is like a like a feat in general. Right. Like how can how can someone do that?
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01] How can someone get through the Squid Game and then also convince the Squid Game people to invite you back in so that you can then start to try to take them apart? Um, he does. He does exactly that in season two. He's like trying to figure it out like the entire time. And we see him work his way back into the games and now have to deal with a whole slew of different characters and personalities and relationships while he tries to accomplish this task.
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_04] Right. And just as Ki-Hoon thinks that he is ultimately thrown the curveball thrown, you know, the powers that be for a loop by deciding to put himself in, I would imagine an unprecedented move in the history of Squid Game. There are some balls thrown right back in his direction with a couple of new twists. First off, outside of the first game, the iconic red light green light, it is brand new games should be mentioned at the time that season two ends.
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_04] We will have done officially three out of the usual six. So again, we did a red light green light. We did this. What was it called? Like nine legged race or something of a five person team exercise. And then we had recently mingle, which was the equivalent of, OK, partner off or group yourselves out. And whoever's left out essentially gets killed off, as is the onus of Squid Game.
[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_04] But the big new thing that's hanging over everybody's head besides the giant pig bang is the fact that we're going Democratic for this iteration of Squid Game at Chappelle. What has been introduced is that at the end of every game, every player is given the chance to vote to either continue the game or stop right there.
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_04] If the majority votes to stop the game, then they all go home alive and they all take a share of the money that they had built up to that point. If they are the majority of us to continue the game, then they will continue the game. And we see early on not only some of the strategy that can get involved in multiple ways, but how this really turns things into, you know, even more of an us versus them situation that the game originally was to begin with.
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_01] This should be so simple. It should be so simple. Hey, guys, we're all in here about to get murdered. Only one person will survive. We can't all have the money. Let's just go. It'd be great. Let's just vote. Let's just vote. We'll all leave. We'll go back. We'll cut our losses and we'll say, OK, life can't be any worse than this. We got it. We got to take we got to take our W and go home. But no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. These people are desperate.
[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_01] A lot of them are in varying different levels of desperation to maintain their status in this game, to stay in the game and to honestly to kill some of these people. You know, we see some personal vendettas explored in this game, but also just the idea that, OK, so you don't want to compete. Maybe your life isn't worth this four point five, six million dollars or one or whatever. But mine is mine is mine is definitely worth it. Like this is definitely worth the risk for me.
[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_01] And so I'm going to stay here. But not only am I going to stay here, I'm going to try to tilt the odds in my favor. What if there are less people involved that want to stay? I mean, they want to leave than they are to stay. What if you just started killing each other? What if I just killed all of the people who vote to leave? And then we just win the majority of the votes moving forward. You know, you call it Democratic, but it's like a little Democratic. There's a vote. But when it comes to whipping the votes and getting the numbers and trying to get people to vote on your side,
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_01] people are doing whatever it takes to get there. And we see some very interesting choices throughout and some people who will lose their life in the face of this democracy.
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. So let's get into how that culminates into the thrilling sequence that ended season two. So there is yet another vote after the third game and it is a tie and there is going to be a revote. Unfortunately, a skirmish occurs in the bathroom that leads to the death of one of the season's comical antagonists in the form of rapper Thanos.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_04] And as a result, then to your point about out of the box thinking, the people who voted, oh, I pay those who want to continue the game think, OK, wait a minute. We don't need the games for the X people to get eliminated. We could just slaughter them and we'll win the vote. And so much like we saw in season one, we get another overnight brawl where many people lose their lives. But don't worry. Ki-hun has a plan.
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_04] He has amassed a group of loyalists at this point who are dedicated to the cause wanting to end the game. And so he decides in this moment that he is going to stage a coup. He decides to take advantage of the bloodbath that was this overnight brawl and is able to get some weaponry, take a soldier hostage and with a group of X's by his side,
[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_04] admirably make his way through the majority of this compound. Ultimately, it is a losing battle in multiple ways. From a larger perspective, one character, Dae-ho, which we'll get into, ends up failing to secure the ammunition that many of the soldiers need properly. So they get unceremoniously executed. Ki-hun and his bro, Jung-bae, who was also in the Squid Game, coincidentally,
[00:13:32] [SPEAKER_04] make their way up to the headquarters of the front man who will get into really the showrunner of the Squid Game, only to be stopped in his tracks. The two of them are captured as the front man stands mercilessly in front of him, taunting him saying, this is what your little hero game is going to provide and executes Jung-bae right there in front of him, leaving Ki-hun devastated in more ways than one. Not only has his attempted insurrection failed,
[00:14:01] [SPEAKER_04] but it has cost the lives of many people, including the one he was closest to.
[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_01] And he's still in the Squid Game. You know, it's not like this, this thing happened and they're like, all right, go home. He's leaving him alive. He's like, okay, I killed your homeboy. Now go back to work. Get back out there. Um, yeah. It's like if Jeff Probst didn't let you quit Survivor, you know, it's like, all right, I'm leaving. It's like, no, you're not. He's like, but I got voted out. No, you didn't. He's like, no, you're in, you're in the game. As long as I want you to be in the game.
[00:14:28] [SPEAKER_04] Not only that, I'm actually taking on your closest ally instead.
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_01] Right. So now try to go win the game without your number one. How about that? Yeah, this is, this sucks. Okay. The front man, um, who, like you said, he's, he's kind of in charge of this whole operation has been undercover this entire season and is now kind of revealing himself to us as kind of like, he has to pick a side. Uh, and so he's now on the side of like making sure that this, this insurrection doesn't happen and that the games continue. Um, because this is now a larger battle between him and, uh,
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_01] he who this entire season, I mean, the season two was basically them working together in quotation marks. Yeah. But him being a mole the entire time and knowing that he was always going to be team squid game over his friend here. Uh, and so with the front man though, we do have some external ops to him. And when I say external, we mean not here on the island, but trying to get to the island. And you know, our favorite storyline for season two by far.
[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_04] Yeah. So let's get into some of the rest of our cast outside of Gi-hun. So you mentioned In-ho and let us, this be our blanket statement as we did at the beginning of a season two. Chappelle and I are both not Korean. Uh, so we do our best in attempting to pronounce these names correctly. Apologies. If we sometimes stumble in that regard, feel free to correct us.
[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_04] But In-ho is a former winner of the squid game who again was made the head of it from the time that we experienced it. And having seen what Ki-hun did to put himself in and try to prove his entire experiment wrong, he decides to match it by also putting himself back in the squid game.
[00:16:09] [SPEAKER_04] He takes on this sort of nebulous identity of number one, uh, much like a, you know, fellow showrunner of the squid game did as well back in season one and was one of Ki-hun's closest allies who turned into one of his worst enemies. He ends up essentially killing the identity off faking his death at the end of season two. So he is just full front man from now on as opposed to full frontal man.
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_04] But to your point, there is somebody on his tail and it is his brother in the form of Jun-ho. Jun-ho is a detective who in season one was searching for his brother was drawn in by Ki-hun returning from the squid game, trying to, you know, proclaim what it was.
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_04] He catches wind of that decides to follow him to the island, goes undercover as a soldier only to discover not only his, is his brother alive, not only is his brother a former winner of the squid game, but he is the front man. And he was shot, dispatched of fell off a cliff. We thought he was dead. Actually, he was alive. And so for a brief portion of season two, he's actually going to join up with Ki-hun in an effort to find his brother.
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_04] Once Ki-hun ends up going back into the squid game, they lose all communication with him. So he is now working valiantly to find this island by Ki-hun, most importantly, find his brother. It's a little tough, though, given the fact that as we found out in the season two finale, the sea captain who has been sort of like his most valuable asset, someone who apparently saved him from drowning after he got shot and fell off a cliff is actually a mole who has been working for In-ho this entire time.
[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah, Jun-ho is trying to get to the squid game. He's never going to get there because the person helping him is, you know, basically just driving him around in circles, you know, making sure he never finds the island. And so now that we have season three upon us, we have the question, is he ever going to be able to get there and help Ki-hun with his tasks in order to, you know, take down the front man? And even what does it look like when he gets there? You know, does he make it and immediately, you know, confront the front man? Does he kill him? Does he, you know, does he try to win him back over?
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_01] We don't know because he spends the entire season two in limbo, just trying to get there. And so we'll see what happens now that it's been revealed to us that he cannot trust Captain Park. But, you know, he still doesn't know. And so we don't know how far into season three or if he ever is able to make it to the island. I would think so, considering he's a detective. And, you know, this is one of the primary conflicts we have here. But throughout season two, we never really got that far.
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_04] All right, let's get into, as you mentioned, some of the new faces that we were introduced to in season two. And we have a couple of pre-existing relationships. We're going a little, you know, early seasons big brother here and throwing in a couple of pairs that know each other in the midst of all of these 456 strangers. Let's talk about quite a complicated pair here in Junhee and Myungi, a.k.a. MGCoin.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_04] The two of them are a former couple, I should say, at the time that all of this is happening. You know, obviously everyone signs up for the squid game usually because they are given this chance to win an unforeseen amount of money. Usually that means they are destitute or, you know, really on hard times for one reason or another. For Myungi, who we refer to as MGCoin, because that was his big YouTube name at the height of his fame.
[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_04] He is a famous crypto, I guess, you know, commentary or voice or crypto dealer. Scammer. Because essentially the reason why a good amount of people are in the squid game is because of him. It's because like Mad Money Jim Cramer style. He gave some bad tips about some crypto. A lot of people lost a lot of money and self-included. Junhee included. And things were made even further complicated by the fact that Junhee is pregnant.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_04] And he has kind of been ghosting her the entire time. She actually was at an abortion clinic before she got the invite to join the squid game. And so the two of them, at least from MGCoin's perspective, are attempting to reconcile in this incredibly emotionally fraught environment.
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01] She don't want nothing to do with him. She doesn't. She's like, I'm over it. You left me and my baby or my unborn child, I guess, for dead. You really like you. I got a good hate into you, sir. But to us, it does look like he's trying to fix things throughout season two. But I'm thinking, just get away from her. You know, you've done enough. You're the reason why she's in here. Like, you know, like, I just don't have any patience for him throughout. But there is question about like, OK, is he able to get back in her good graces?
[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_01] What does it look like when a couple is in the squid game, but also a couple that is with child? You know, how far is he going to go to reconcile for the bad things that he's done in her life? And does he do that in order to benefit the kid who gets the kid if the kid makes it out of here alive? Does the kid make it out of there alive? There's so many questions around in this couple.
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_01] And season two really just like kind of outlines their ups and downs as we go into season three, wondering, you know, does the baby even make it out of the squid game? Or does, you know, or is the vote happening before we even give birth to the child? There's so many questions around in this particular family. And I'd say they're probably like what, maybe like the fourth or fifth most important grouping of people here. So they did a really good job in season two of really fleshing out some of these other storylines.
[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_04] Well, let's get into one of those storylines with another pair entering the squid game who, much like MGCoin and Junhee, were quite surprised to see each other. We have 007, Yongsik, and his mother, number 149, Gumja, where these two have fallen on hard times, both respectively and cooperatively.
[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_04] So they have each independently entered the squid game only for, you know, their paths to align in more ways than one. And, you know, sometimes they are a bit of the comic relief with how much she dotes on him and how much, you know, he insists that he's trying to protect. The both of them. But I cannot imagine, Chappelle, what it must be like to compete on squid game alongside your parent.
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_04] I suppose there are two other people in this world that we can speak to about that.
[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah, but Gumja, her issue is that she wouldn't even be in the squid game if it wasn't for her son, Yongsik. Right. Like she is doing this essentially because he has gotten them into such a financial bond that she's like, I got to come in here and help him. Or I have to come in here and make our lives better. I'm pretty sure she didn't know he was going to be there when they got there. Right. If in season two, like she's like, oh, my God, what are you doing here? It's like, oh, well, we're both in debt. We're both struggling. And now we're both in it. And, you know, from what we can tell, there can only be one winner.
[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_01] Now, there is the Democratic side of this where we see that the votes are being, you know, being made. And you would think if you're participating in the squid game that you have two votes. You and your mom would be voting the same. No, no. Gumja is voting to leave. And Yongsik does a incredible thing. He votes to stay at one point because we do see the different levels of greed and, you know, maybe some immaturity that have put them in this situation as well.
[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_01] And so now we have to kind of find out, are they both able to survive? What does it look like when they're able to survive? Because they're not the strongest pair. You know, I'm taking pregnant Junhee over them every time, you know, because she's a little bit older and it seems like she's probably like lost a step or two. She's not the most agile. And he seemingly useless, you know. And so between the two of them, I don't have a lot of faith in them as a pair, but we're so invested in their story
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_01] because these are two of the people that Ki-hun is able to align with very early on in season two.
[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_04] Let's talk about a couple of other people to round out the main cast and a couple of veterans, not of the squid game, but of the military. So we mentioned before, first one I will go to is Deho, number 388, who also was largely presented in kind of a comedic way. He has a little bit of like this Jim Carrey Gumby-like physicality to him, this overweening energy for the majority of season two. He's like the golden retriever of Ki-hun's group the majority of the season
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_04] until he has this moment, assumingly triggered by PTSD, where again, he freezes when trying to get the magazines back to the people. And someone who ends up going back to find him is number 120, Pyongju, who caused a bit of a controversy initially by the fact that this is a trans character played by a cisgender actor, Park Sung-hoon. But I think from a characterization perspective,
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_04] I think a lot of people have really enjoyed this is somebody who made a huge cut in the military, I believe was a sergeant, very, very skilled in the ways of tactics. And, you know, wants to enter the squid game to get money to finish her transition. And, you know, has had her own sort of storyline happen with Gum-ja, where she represents perhaps a more conservative generation who initially kind of disparaged the idea of her existence, but by the end is saving her life from stepping up
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_04] and possibly getting picked off by the pink soldiers.
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah. So this is tough because, you know, 120, she's giving us everything we need from a person who says, I was in the military, right? Like she said, I was born to be a soldier, you know, transition aside. Like this is who I am. And we see those military tactics coming into handy, like throughout. She's really stepping up. And so, you know, I know there was definitely pushback against the actress or whatever. And so that's definitely something that, you know, people were like not really okay with,
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_01] but I do think the characterization of showing this person is a strong role. You know, someone who we are leaning on as one of the heroes for sure, where a lot of them are surrounded by, I mean, just a lot of villains, you know, in this show. I think she's one of the purest heroes that we've had thus far. And then to, you know, kind of juxtapose that against Dejo, who, you know, is supposed to be, you know, oh, this, you know, cisgender man who was in the military.
[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_01] And yet when it's time to, you know, to do what he needs to do, Dejo kind of nuts up. He doesn't, he's not able to deliver the way he's supposed to. We see some cowardice even coming from his direction in a place where she's able to step up. And so it's a very cool dichotomy that the show presents, but it's not a great spot for us to be in knowing that our, one of our military people has now faltered and the other one is rising to the occasion. What are we going to do if we can't string together
[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_01] the military people as far as, you know, toward this insurrection? Is there any benefit to having them? Are these more people who we're competing against?
[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_04] Let's finish off our main cast by bringing up the rare person outside of the Squid Game, but on the island. And you talk about heroes and a bunch of villains. This is someone that you and I are still having a really tough time trying to put a finger on. We are talking about Noel. Noel, there was this really great sequence in episode two where we believe that she's being recruited to be a Squid Game contestant, when in reality she is being recruited to be a soldier,
[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_04] to be one of the people in the pink suit with the triangle mask or the square mask. And she is much like, you know, a certain character from season one, you know, a bit of a refugee from North Korea, who is finding herself in a very different type of battle zone. But it seems, Chappelle, that Noel has a code that doesn't have her particularly falling in line with what the powers that be at the Squid Game are dealing with. Because as is always the case, there is an organ harvesting train happening.
[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_04] That, you know, the people that are either on Death's Door or are recently dead have these organs that get sent to this special room where a bunch of secret employees are working behind the scenes to harvest these organs and sell them to make a profit on the side. And Noel is someone who has just mercilessly been squashing that trade. She's taking out all of these people. There's a moment in Red Light, Green Light in season two where like, you know, Hyunju and Kihoon help this guy with a broken leg across the finish line.
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_04] And then Noel just kills him. Like technically he passed, but she still murders him. And it gets her certainly butting heads a bit with the people in charge as she is actively trying. It's a secret track to happen behind the scenes of the island.
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_01] Right. And that brings me to question, what is her code? You know, it's like she signed up for this role in particular, you know? And so it's like, okay, so we know you don't have an issue taking, you know, somewhat innocent lives. As you see, as you talked about, Mike, she does do some very merciless killings as well. You know, with that person who stumbled across the line, you know, like she is not afraid to pull the trigger. But like, but I draw the line at Oregon Harvesting. You know, it's like, to me, it's kind of like, okay,
[00:29:24] [SPEAKER_01] is this a hero? Is this a good guy? Is this a bad guy? We're not quite sure. We do know that she does have a personal connection with someone who is in the squid game, that gentleman we saw who I think he worked at the park with her as well. But aside from that, she's a big question mark for me because I don't know if she's going to be beneficial to us in the long run. There hasn't been a reason why we're following her. And it can't be just on the Oregon Harvesting because that's just not that big of a storyline in squid game. It's always like something that's going on in the background.
[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_01] But how does she play into the larger cast with what has, what Ki-Hun's doing, what the squid game looks like, what the front man is doing? We just don't know yet. But season two kind of outlines her journey as we get to season three, where it does look like she's going to have to start making some tough decisions.
[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_04] All right. Let us just go through a string of our recurring cast. That is, of course, all of our main cast. But from a game participant perspective, we have number 44, which is Son Nyo, who is the self-proclaimed shaman of the seas. This woman... Let's start that again. We have, of course, number 44, Son Nyo, also known as the self-proclaimed shaman of the seas. This woman who is apostatizing this idea that, oh, the gods are talking through me.
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_04] I know how to solve each game. Follow me and I will lead you on the path toward salvation, which obviously has her jutting up against, you know, friend and foe, mostly foe many times over the course of season two. We have your boy, number 125, Min Su. This very mousy, quiet guy who has, by and large, been a very craven, you know, person inside of the squid game. Definitely not as aggressive and violent as many of the people around him.
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_04] But, you know, as a result, has lost a lot of people close to him. All he could do was just kind of like stand back and watch it happen and not stop it. And he stood back and did not stop the murder of a very close friend at the hands of this nice next guy, 124, Namgyu, who is formerly the closest ally of Thanos, but was also like cursing his name and his death and stole all his drugs. He is like this former club promoter
[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_04] who is the exact definition of a loose cannon. And then we have Jong Day, which is number 100, the guy who owes perhaps the most amount of debt in squid game history, billions upon billions of won. So he is one of the most vocal proponents of Team O, of Team Continue the Game, has amassed a lot of allies by his side as well. And then a couple of other people who are off the island of note. We have a Wusok,
[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_04] who was the accomplice of a former loan shark who was an enemy of Ki-hoon before Ki-hoon hired him to try to find the front man. And they did. And it came at the loss of, you know, the head loan shark's life. And so Wusok is now sort of like continuing in his stead. He watched his boss die in front of him in this perverted game of rock, paper, scissors. And so he has joined up with Ki-hoon and now Jun-ho to help try to find the island. But of course they are prevented
[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_04] by the man we mentioned before, Captain Park, the sea captain who had a recent black hat reveal at the end of season two. And there are, you know, hundreds of other people, Chappelle, that are involved in the squid game who pop up from time to time only to get unceremoniously killed. So that was a rundown of, I think, all the major players that we shall see how many make to the end of the final season here.
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_01] Yeah. And that's the fun of squid game, right? We know that a lot of you people are going to die and is going to be in cartoonishly evil ways as well, knowing that some of these games are coming. But at the same time, there's these side missions and these other plot devices that are really putting some of the background characters in danger too. And so this has a lot more layers than season one did. Season two, I think, very much served as a bridge to kind of get us to all of the things that we have to reckon with
[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_01] in season three. And so I'm very excited to see what happens next. Now that we've already, you know, set the table for all the drama, it's now time for us to use these last, what, six episodes to figure out how this ends.
[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_04] Well, Squid Game loves their way around the bridges, but our coverage is not tempered, unlike that glass. Again, every day, starting tomorrow, June 27th, we will be in your eyes and ears recapping the premiere of Squid Game season three. And then every day thereafter, one episode at a time through the end of the season and series, it seems, at least in its initial incarnation. You know, I think certainly Chappelle, when we see what the ending is, we can talk about what the afterlife,
[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_04] in a manner of speaking, of Squid Game might be. But for all intents and purposes, we can call this sort of like the last lap for this particular iteration of the story. And I cannot wait to see what it involves. And hopefully you'll all join us along for the ride as well. Again, we know scriptedtv.com, nothingbutpod.com. Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss a second of our daily coverage, which kicks off again tomorrow with episode one of Squid Game season three. This is so exciting. Losing my voice here.
[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_04] Hmm. This is so exciting. I am really pumped to get back into the swing of things. You know, I think one of the reasons why Chappelle, we did this podcast is because for a lot of people, ourselves included, it was like, oh, wait, Squid Game's coming back. And it is. And I think we need to be reminded not only the major players in play, but also the fact that this is such a well-made show that highlights a lot of the really beautiful and ugly parts of humanity in general.
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_04] And I am so grateful we have one last ride here.
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01] Look, and I'm taking this ride with Mike Bloom of all people. You know, this is a cultural phenomenon and I have a front seat, you know, a front row seat. Yeah, a front row seat here to get to witness the beauty of Mike Bloom podcasting about Squid Game. So this is going to be so much fun. Hopefully you all are strapped in and ready to take a seat and listen and talk and comment on our YouTube videos. And, you know, make sure you keep the conversation going because like Mike was saying, a lot of people kind of lost the thread here on Squid Game.
[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_01] They're like, oh, it's back already? It's back. And we got to talk about it here on WeKnowScriptedTV.com.
[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_04] Listen, the pleasure is all mine getting a chance to talk with you about all of this. It's an absolute gas and I'm not talking about the stuff that brings people into the game in the first place. Well, tomorrow we rejoin Squid Game as episode one of season three is upon us. We'll be back tomorrow morning with our recap of the premiere of season three. Thank you all so much for listening. Until tomorrow, everybody. Take care. Bye-bye.
