This week, Chappell and Rob Cesternino watch and discuss the premiere of the new HBO docuseries, Ren Faire, which follows the power struggle over control of the largest renaissance festival.[00:00:00] This is Amy Poehler. My new movie, Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2, is coming to theaters June 14th.
[00:00:05] And it's making me feel joy and sadness and anger.
[00:00:09] Definitely some disgust. Gross!
[00:00:10] And I think a little fear.
[00:00:12] But I'm also feeling these new emotions like anxiety, embarrassment, envy and ennui.
[00:00:18] It's what you call the boredom.
[00:00:20] Okay, that one was weird.
[00:00:21] It's gonna be the feel-everything movie of the summer.
[00:00:24] Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2.
[00:00:26] Rated PG. Parental guidance suggested.

[00:00:37] Ember hot and icy cold.
[00:00:40] The rage of the earth.
[00:00:43] We made this curse.
[00:00:46] Carved it in the blood on our backs.
[00:00:48] We did not see.
[00:00:50] We could not, but she did.
[00:00:52] And in the end...
[00:00:53] What will I become?
[00:00:55] Senua's Saga.
[00:00:56] Hellblade 2.
[00:00:58] Play it now with Game Pass.

[00:02:02] I was flipping through the channels the other day
[00:02:05] but there was nothing good on, I had nothing to play.
[00:02:08] So I went to my computer and realized
[00:02:11] that there was so much content before my eyes.
[00:02:15] But there's nothing but Netflix in my heart and on my screen.
[00:02:21] There's always something that I still haven't seen.
[00:02:27] But maybe one day we can try to watch the rest.
[00:02:32] So Rob and Chappelle, give it your best.
[00:02:36] Yeah, that's right.
[00:02:38] Nothing but Netflix.
[00:02:40] Take a back seat because this week we're going to the max.
[00:02:45] We're talking about a two-week event on Max, aka HBO.
[00:02:55] As we are talking about the biggest Renaissance Fair in Texas
[00:03:01] and who's taking it over.
[00:03:03] And of course our Texas correspondent is here, Chappelle.
[00:03:09] Huzzah!
[00:03:12] It's time for RIN Fair.
[00:03:14] It's RIN Fair on HBO Max.
[00:03:17] The story of the succession of this huge Texas Renaissance Festival.
[00:03:23] Succession meets Game of Thrones.
[00:03:26] Yeah, yeah.
[00:03:27] And then also a little bit of the Tiger King.
[00:03:29] Like a lot of the Tiger King.
[00:03:31] Like a very heavy Tiger King vibe
[00:03:33] because everybody in this show is a cartoon character
[00:03:36] or probably on some type of psychedelic.
[00:03:40] I haven't decided yet.
[00:03:41] Okay, now you were the one who first brought this up to me.
[00:03:45] I had not heard about it.
[00:03:47] How did this come across your radar?
[00:03:50] Well, you know, I'm always looking for what's next.
[00:03:53] What's new on Netflix?
[00:03:54] And I was thinking Netflix is kind of slow right now.
[00:03:56] Let's see what else has got to come out.
[00:03:58] And I saw HBO Max saying that, okay, we got a new show.
[00:04:02] It's going to be in the same vein as the Tiger King meets Succession.
[00:04:05] And I thought, well, those two things can't marry themselves well
[00:04:09] and then actually be like presentable.
[00:04:11] It's probably going to be crazy to watch it.
[00:04:13] Let's try it out.
[00:04:14] And so you immediately said, it sounds funny.
[00:04:16] Let's talk about it.
[00:04:17] And so I thought, okay, cool.
[00:04:18] We got it.
[00:04:19] And I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this.
[00:04:22] And I think this is going to be so much fun to talk about
[00:04:26] because it is wild.
[00:04:27] Yeah, really looking forward to talking about this,
[00:04:30] which is a documentary.
[00:04:34] And I have so many questions about the how and why this all got put together,
[00:04:41] where it's going.
[00:04:42] We saw one hour at 9 p.m. on HBO on Sunday night, the 2nd.
[00:04:49] On Sunday night, the 9th, they will air the 2nd and 3rd piece of this
[00:04:55] leading up to HBO's House of the Dragon Season 2.
[00:05:00] So it's got the Renaissance fair that's got like your Game of Thrones vibe.
[00:05:05] But also this probably tonally is a lot closer to succession.
[00:05:12] Yeah, yeah.
[00:05:13] Because throughout we are getting introduced to all this cast of characters.
[00:05:19] We meet the person at the top of the food chain and then we meet
[00:05:23] all the underlings who are vying to be the next person up top
[00:05:27] to be the next king of the Renaissance fair.
[00:05:29] And so, yes, throughout we are going to learn so much about the king,
[00:05:33] how his operation runs, how this entire fair and festival runs.
[00:05:37] But we're also going to learn about the people who are vying to be next up,
[00:05:41] how they are trying to, you know, jockey for positions, I guess you would say,
[00:05:45] in order to be crowned the next king.
[00:05:47] And so I thought, okay, this will be pretty fun to watch,
[00:05:50] especially because these people are taking this very seriously.
[00:05:53] Now, I know if you did not watch it, you're probably thinking,
[00:05:55] oh yeah, this is happening within the confines of a Renaissance fair.
[00:05:58] But no, it's not.
[00:05:59] This is the actual ownership of the fair.
[00:06:02] So this is not like some cosplay that they're doing.
[00:06:05] This is the business side of what the Texas Renaissance Festival is
[00:06:09] and who will be in control of it moving forward
[00:06:13] after the king ultimately retires or unalives himself.
[00:06:19] Yes. Okay.
[00:06:20] And it is very fun to get inside this, you know, little world,
[00:06:25] which is the biggest Renaissance fair in Texas.
[00:06:29] No, in America.
[00:06:31] In America.
[00:06:32] It is the biggest one in America.
[00:06:33] Yes, Texas has the biggest one.
[00:06:35] Everything's bigger in Texas.
[00:06:36] Everything's bigger in Texas.
[00:06:37] And so you get really inside the politics here.
[00:06:39] Very fun to see everything that's going on here.
[00:06:42] Chappelle, have you ever had the desire to visit a Renaissance fair?
[00:06:49] Rob, I have been to this Renaissance fair twice.
[00:06:52] Wow.
[00:06:53] Okay, let's get into it.
[00:06:56] Yeah.
[00:06:57] So when I was younger.
[00:06:59] No way.
[00:07:01] No, when I was younger,
[00:07:03] I don't know if it was because I think I like an aunt that used to get free tickets.
[00:07:08] She would get free tickets to the Renaissance fair through her job.
[00:07:11] And so at that point we had to go because we got these tickets
[00:07:14] and this is something free we could take the kids to.
[00:07:16] I was the kids.
[00:07:17] So we would load up in the car and we would go to the Renaissance festival.
[00:07:20] And I'm pretty sure it was more than twice,
[00:07:22] but I vividly remember two times going and bringing back souvenirs and stuff of that nature.
[00:07:27] So when I saw that this was about the Texas Renaissance fair,
[00:07:30] I got so excited because I was like, oh, I know these people.
[00:07:32] I've actually been here before.
[00:07:33] And yeah, I had a great time at the Renaissance festival.
[00:07:36] But again, I was a child.
[00:07:38] I don't know if I would have the same good time now that I'm an adult.
[00:07:41] Do you remember anything you did at the Renaissance festival?
[00:07:44] Oh, yeah.
[00:07:45] Yeah.
[00:07:46] I remember they make all these souvenirs for you and they got like the woodsman
[00:07:51] that'll make like a little like, you know, key chains and stuff like out of wood.
[00:07:54] But then they also have this thing where you and I had this on my windowsill.
[00:07:58] Here's the story.
[00:07:59] You actually dunk your hand in like hot and hot candle wax.
[00:08:02] And then you take it out and they make like a mold of your hand out of wax.
[00:08:08] And so I had that mold in my home for a very long time.
[00:08:13] I say a very long time, but I left it on my windowsill because I was a child
[00:08:16] and then realized that the sun would make it melt.
[00:08:18] So eventually it was hard to get it off of the windowsill because it melted onto there.
[00:08:22] But yes, I have some memories from the Renaissance fair.
[00:08:24] Turkey legs for sure.
[00:08:26] The turkey leg seems appetizing to me.
[00:08:28] Oh my God.
[00:08:29] It's kind of my bag.
[00:08:31] Yeah, like a good well-cooked turkey leg.
[00:08:34] But also they have like everything's bigger in Texas, right?
[00:08:36] So they have these like giant sauces on the sticks and these huge turkey legs
[00:08:40] and all this other stuff.
[00:08:41] So that's what I remember the most.
[00:08:43] I remember the food and then I remember all the crazy costumes.
[00:08:46] It was wild.
[00:08:47] Yeah, okay.
[00:08:48] So we are meeting the head.
[00:08:51] King George is of course, we love a King George, right?
[00:08:57] George Coulomb, is that his name?
[00:08:59] Yeah, it looks like that's his name.
[00:09:01] Yeah, King George.
[00:09:02] I flinched, of course.
[00:09:03] I was like, again?
[00:09:05] We're doing this again?
[00:09:06] Always?
[00:09:07] We always have to have one?
[00:09:08] Yeah.
[00:09:09] Another one.
[00:09:10] Okay, so King George, he started the Texas Renaissance Fair and ultimately it's gone
[00:09:19] on some, what, 45 years since he kicked it off?
[00:09:24] And he built this-
[00:09:25] You wish.
[00:09:26] Yes?
[00:09:27] It's coming up on 50 years this year, Rob.
[00:09:29] Will be the 50th anniversary of the Renaissance Fair.
[00:09:31] All right.
[00:09:32] And he built this thing up.
[00:09:33] I mean, he's kind of a visionary and this was his baby.
[00:09:37] And he turned this into what it's become.
[00:09:40] Was this the first Renaissance Fair?
[00:09:42] Is it the best?
[00:09:43] No, so it is.
[00:09:45] They say King George is the pioneer of what the Renaissance Fair would eventually be,
[00:09:49] but it's not the first one.
[00:09:51] They had one in 1962 in California.
[00:09:53] Minnesota got one in 1971.
[00:09:55] Wisconsin got one in 1972.
[00:09:57] But then the Texas one came in.
[00:09:59] It is the largest one by attendance.
[00:10:02] And I believe it's 55 fair acres, 200 acres of camping ground.
[00:10:09] So yeah, the stats speak for themselves.
[00:10:12] It's gigantic.
[00:10:14] And like I said, they get 500,000 guests annually.
[00:10:18] They're making millions of dollars off of this every year.
[00:10:21] And he didn't only create the Renaissance Fair in Texas,
[00:10:25] he bought the town and made the Renaissance Fair the actual town
[00:10:29] of Pleasant, I think it's in, I don't remember.
[00:10:33] Honestly, I think outside of Nava Sotom.
[00:10:37] That's how I remember it.
[00:10:39] But anyway, yeah, it's become so huge that he had to buy the town.
[00:10:43] So he's essentially the mayor of the town and the person in charge of the Renaissance Festival.
[00:10:47] Okay, and so now later in life,
[00:10:51] King George is now 84 years old?
[00:10:55] He's creeping up on, yeah.
[00:10:59] Creeping doing a lot of work.
[00:11:01] Yeah, well, I mean, yeah, he's 84.
[00:11:05] He's just trying to make it to 95 so he can die.
[00:11:07] He says he wants to live to 95.
[00:11:09] He's 86 and in nine years.
[00:11:11] Yeah, nine years before retirement or death.
[00:11:13] Okay, he has this all planned out at the age of 95
[00:11:17] that he wants to be euthanized in Sweden.
[00:11:22] Euthanized in Sweden?
[00:11:26] Yeah, I mean, that's the only place where he could find a company
[00:11:30] that would kill him.
[00:11:32] So he wants to go out there and get euthanized, right?
[00:11:35] Because I guess the United States government tells you
[00:11:37] that you can't let somebody just off you.
[00:11:40] And so he's like, all right, if I make it to 95,
[00:11:42] I think my work here is done.
[00:11:44] It's time for me to go.
[00:11:45] And so he either wants to be euthanized
[00:11:47] or he wants to die in the throes of passion with a woman.
[00:11:50] He wants a woman to sex him to death.
[00:11:52] Yes, okay.
[00:11:54] I want to explore that more.
[00:11:56] But why 95?
[00:11:58] Why 95?
[00:12:00] Why not 100?
[00:12:02] I think he's just tired.
[00:12:04] I mean, we see that King George goes through a lot
[00:12:06] to maintain his health.
[00:12:08] For someone of that age, he is very spry.
[00:12:10] He does yoga.
[00:12:12] But he also has meditation that he does.
[00:12:14] He does a different slew of—
[00:12:16] He hypnotizes himself.
[00:12:18] He hypnotizes himself every day
[00:12:20] to make sure that it doesn't trigger his epilepsy.
[00:12:22] He also has a cocktail of medications
[00:12:24] that he takes, including Viagra, Cialis,
[00:12:26] and testosterone shots every week.
[00:12:28] Yes.
[00:12:30] Because he wants to make sure he can get it up
[00:12:32] until they put him down.
[00:12:34] Yes.
[00:12:36] So yeah, it's a lot of maintenance, Rob.
[00:12:38] He has done quite a great deal in this life.
[00:12:40] He's 86 years old.
[00:12:42] But in his remaining days,
[00:12:44] he is very focused on one thing.
[00:12:46] He is very focused on one task,
[00:12:48] and that is
[00:12:50] companionship.
[00:12:52] He needs to be finding
[00:12:54] some eligible
[00:12:56] ladies, preferably
[00:12:58] between the ages of 30
[00:13:00] to 50,
[00:13:02] to have
[00:13:04] some companionship with.
[00:13:06] Yeah.
[00:13:08] He wants to do his art and chase ladies.
[00:13:10] Right, right.
[00:13:12] I don't even know if he wants to chase anymore.
[00:13:15] I think he's trying to find one to lock down real quick
[00:13:17] so he can spend these last eight years or so
[00:13:19] really hanging out
[00:13:21] with somebody and having a special person
[00:13:23] in his life, because he doesn't have that
[00:13:25] right now. So what King George
[00:13:27] has opted to do is to go to
[00:13:29] Sugar Baby websites, and he is
[00:13:31] now listed as the sugar daddy
[00:13:33] on a bunch of these websites where he's looking
[00:13:35] for younger women to take care of.
[00:13:37] He's got a lot of money.
[00:13:39] Just to take a step back,
[00:13:41] one thing that Ren Faire does not explore
[00:13:43] in its first hour is
[00:13:45] what is the
[00:13:47] prior dating history
[00:13:49] of King George?
[00:13:51] Was he married? Is he widowed?
[00:13:53] Has he always been an
[00:13:55] eligible bachelor?
[00:13:57] From what I can tell,
[00:13:59] it sounds like he's always been an eligible
[00:14:01] bachelor, I believe, because he's not
[00:14:03] talking about leaving the
[00:14:05] festival to any of his children.
[00:14:07] There isn't an ex-wife or anything
[00:14:09] we're exploring in the will or anything
[00:14:11] like that. He doesn't talk about
[00:14:13] a prior family, and I think it was just him.
[00:14:15] So the Texas Renaissance Fair was
[00:14:17] founded by him and his brother,
[00:14:19] and I think since then
[00:14:21] he's just been the king on his
[00:14:23] own, and he hasn't had time to really settle down
[00:14:25] and have a family. And so he's been
[00:14:27] trying to keep this fair up and going forever.
[00:14:29] And yeah, I think now
[00:14:31] he's like, okay, I can finally rest.
[00:14:33] My life work is done.
[00:14:35] I'm moving it on to somebody else
[00:14:37] who can take care of it, so that I can focus on that
[00:14:39] part of my life that I have not addressed.
[00:14:41] But I get the sense that
[00:14:43] he has not had
[00:14:45] a lot of companionship throughout
[00:14:47] his years. I feel
[00:14:49] like that he almost
[00:14:51] has realized at the end of his
[00:14:53] life, I have put all of this
[00:14:55] time and work into
[00:14:57] building this thing, and I have
[00:14:59] not known these
[00:15:01] carnal delights to
[00:15:03] the degree of which I've wanted to.
[00:15:05] And now,
[00:15:07] I feel like
[00:15:09] if he was always having
[00:15:11] women come through,
[00:15:13] why has he lost this ability
[00:15:15] to such a degree
[00:15:17] that he needs a professional
[00:15:19] app swiper?
[00:15:23] Well, for one,
[00:15:25] yeah, I think he's found
[00:15:27] his niche. He really wants to be a sugar daddy.
[00:15:29] He's like, I want somebody who I
[00:15:31] can take care of. I have a bunch of money.
[00:15:33] I'm a man of a certain age, so it's gonna be
[00:15:35] harder for me to attract these women that I want
[00:15:37] because he wants them around the age of
[00:15:39] 30 or so. So he's looking for a woman
[00:15:41] of a certain age, and there's a big
[00:15:43] gap. And so, yeah, you have to
[00:15:45] in order to get the attention
[00:15:47] of women of that age, you probably have to meet them
[00:15:49] where they are. And this 86-year-old
[00:15:51] man is not really
[00:15:53] privy to the way the internet dating world
[00:15:55] works. He's probably not that
[00:15:57] computer literate either.
[00:15:59] So he does have a professional
[00:16:01] swiper who
[00:16:03] goes on the dating apps and essentially
[00:16:05] is like his cat's paw when
[00:16:07] trying to catch the attention
[00:16:09] of some of these women and
[00:16:11] potentially date them. The King Scroller, he has
[00:16:13] Victor, who's on 15
[00:16:15] sites, and
[00:16:17] that he is looking for a nice
[00:16:19] thin lady between the ages
[00:16:21] of 30 to 50.
[00:16:25] He has ideas
[00:16:27] about how things should go, but
[00:16:29] Leonard has ideas too.
[00:16:33] Yes, and Leonard is the swiper?
[00:16:35] No.
[00:16:37] Which one is Leonard?
[00:16:39] Leonard is the name of his Wang.
[00:16:41] Oh, yes!
[00:16:43] I forgot! The King's Scepter.
[00:16:45] The King's
[00:16:47] Scepter, his mess
[00:16:49] if you will. His name is Leonard.
[00:16:51] His balls and chain.
[00:16:53] Yeah, Leonard.
[00:16:55] Yeah, he
[00:16:57] says Leonard makes the decisions for him.
[00:16:59] Leonard has his own
[00:17:01] brain. He has to do what
[00:17:03] Leonard says.
[00:17:05] He doesn't have to do what Leonard
[00:17:07] says, but I think at this point in his life
[00:17:09] he is definitely going to give
[00:17:11] into whatever Leonard wants. I mean, he's doing a lot
[00:17:13] to keep Leonard active. Like I said, he's doing
[00:17:15] Viagra, Cialis, and testosterone
[00:17:17] shots so he can get daily erections.
[00:17:19] He's trying to take care of Leonard
[00:17:21] in this late stage of life.
[00:17:23] However,
[00:17:25] is he doing that
[00:17:27] or is Leonard
[00:17:29] insisting that he takes
[00:17:31] Viagra and Cialis?
[00:17:33] I've never heard of
[00:17:35] that combo.
[00:17:37] Yeah, it's a combo platter.
[00:17:39] It's like a little...
[00:17:41] End shot of testosterone.
[00:17:43] Yeah, it's like I need the boner sampler.
[00:17:45] You know, get a little of this, a little of that, a little of this
[00:17:47] and then make, you know.
[00:17:49] But yeah, I think Leonard is making the demands
[00:17:51] here at this point. King George doesn't have
[00:17:53] a lot that he wants
[00:17:55] at this point. He's very, very rich.
[00:17:57] Yeah, if he's got some
[00:17:59] as you call it, carnal desires
[00:18:01] then he definitely needs to make
[00:18:03] them happen and he's going to do whatever he can
[00:18:05] to make it happen. I went to his website
[00:18:07] GeorgeCollum.com
[00:18:09] because I wanted to look at his art
[00:18:11] and in his bio it says,
[00:18:13] George Collum is a healthy 6'2",
[00:18:15] 173 pound, 86 year old, sexually
[00:18:17] active Caucasian male entrepreneur.
[00:18:19] His home and 200 acre
[00:18:21] estate gardens are located
[00:18:23] 7 miles north of Magnolia in the small town
[00:18:26] of Todd Mission, Texas where he serves as mayor.
[00:18:28] George earned his master's degree in art
[00:18:30] from the University of California at
[00:18:32] Northridge. So yeah, he
[00:18:34] makes sure that you know in his bio on
[00:18:36] his own professional page that he still fucks.
[00:18:38] Mm-hmm, yep.
[00:18:40] This guy Fs. What do you think about the name
[00:18:42] Leonard? So formal.
[00:18:44] It is very
[00:18:46] formal. You know, I typically don't
[00:18:48] name my appendages and so I
[00:18:50] haven't thought to do that.
[00:18:52] You know, you and I are close but I
[00:18:54] want to know if you've named yours honestly.
[00:18:56] I mean, if you had to name yours, do you
[00:18:58] think about like would it be a formal name?
[00:19:00] Would it be something like a nickname?
[00:19:02] Something light? I think
[00:19:04] and just you know
[00:19:06] full disclosure
[00:19:08] I haven't had a naming ceremony
[00:19:10] but I think you'd want something
[00:19:12] like informal
[00:19:14] like hey
[00:19:16] like Lenny's here
[00:19:18] like oh Leonard
[00:19:20] would like to see you.
[00:19:22] Probably like Leonard's my father's name.
[00:19:24] Yeah, I don't
[00:19:26] know. Maybe oh you could name it
[00:19:28] after the court jester. You can name it Nitchnick.
[00:19:30] Nitchnick.
[00:19:32] Nitchnick sounds like a
[00:19:34] bad word in a different language.
[00:19:36] Definitely could be a slur as well.
[00:19:38] So yeah, but
[00:19:40] that's what George's
[00:19:42] court jester's name is. His real name is
[00:19:44] Terrence but he goes by Nitchnick.
[00:19:46] So maybe in a different
[00:19:48] life I'll name my appendages
[00:19:50] something.
[00:19:52] So that's George.
[00:19:54] George has
[00:19:56] his eye off the ball
[00:19:58] that he was a visionary.
[00:20:00] He built this whole thing
[00:20:02] but he's thinking
[00:20:04] about other stuff. Him and Leonard
[00:20:06] they've got their own plans
[00:20:08] so we start to learn a little bit about
[00:20:10] some of the side characters
[00:20:12] some of the people that could see
[00:20:14] themselves becoming
[00:20:16] the new king of the Texas
[00:20:18] Renaissance Festival.
[00:20:20] We first meet the general
[00:20:22] manager Jeff Baldwin.
[00:20:24] He calls himself the
[00:20:26] head oompa loompa.
[00:20:30] Yeah, he's
[00:20:32] who's actually running the day today.
[00:20:34] He's the hand
[00:20:36] of the king. So he's
[00:20:38] making sure that all of this
[00:20:40] Renaissance Fair stuff is
[00:20:42] actually happening. So it's King George is not the
[00:20:44] actual king of the
[00:20:46] Fair anymore. They just call him that because he's
[00:20:48] in charge. He's literally in charge of everything.
[00:20:50] He's the mayor of the entire city.
[00:20:52] So they still call him king even though he's not the king of the
[00:20:54] Fair. But the person who's
[00:20:56] actually running the day today is definitely Jeff
[00:20:58] and he feels like, yeah
[00:21:00] I'm doing all this work.
[00:21:02] I know the park just as
[00:21:04] good if not, I mean just almost as good as
[00:21:06] Jeff because he's been doing this for over
[00:21:08] 30 years, almost over
[00:21:10] 40 years I think. I think he said 17 years
[00:21:12] he was a director of entertainment and then for 25
[00:21:14] 17 years he was a performer and then he was
[00:21:16] a director of entertainment for 25 years
[00:21:18] or something like that. So the man is decorated.
[00:21:20] He knows the park inside and out
[00:21:22] and he feels like he's next up. If George
[00:21:24] decides to step down, he'll be taking
[00:21:26] the crown. And Jeff's background is
[00:21:28] an actor. He is
[00:21:30] trained in
[00:21:32] the theater and
[00:21:34] that is the part of this that
[00:21:36] really appeals to him.
[00:21:38] That he is the person
[00:21:40] who I think that
[00:21:42] his heart is the most
[00:21:44] in this. That he understands
[00:21:46] what this thing is
[00:21:48] what it means to people and
[00:21:50] that he is the one
[00:21:52] that has sort of like
[00:21:54] the sentimental approach to
[00:21:56] keeping the Texas
[00:21:58] Renaissance Festival
[00:22:00] as great as it ever was.
[00:22:02] Yeah, he's the
[00:22:04] eldest boy. You know, if
[00:22:06] George has to
[00:22:08] pass something down, he feels like he's the
[00:22:10] natural successor. It's just
[00:22:12] in him. I live this fair, I've been here
[00:22:14] for 40 years, this is what I
[00:22:16] like to do. I love the acting part about
[00:22:18] it but I also know the management of the
[00:22:20] fair. Give it to me. I've earned it.
[00:22:22] This is my spot.
[00:22:24] If anybody else comes in, they would
[00:22:26] have to basically jump him in the line of
[00:22:28] succession and George is not going to have
[00:22:30] that.
[00:22:32] George might have it but
[00:22:34] Jeff is not going to go for it. He's not going to take it
[00:22:36] lightly if somebody does try to jump him because
[00:22:38] it just feels like almost like it's his birthright.
[00:22:40] George isn't his dad but
[00:22:42] I think they have a father-son relationship
[00:22:44] or maybe like father-nephew or
[00:22:46] something. Yeah, and Jeff
[00:22:48] knows the park inside
[00:22:50] and out. We meet Jeff's
[00:22:52] wife who also
[00:22:54] was somebody who
[00:22:56] worked at the park
[00:22:58] that she is the acting
[00:23:00] entertainment director. They have
[00:23:02] a lot of... they have a lovely
[00:23:04] relationship, I'd like to say.
[00:23:07] They really are
[00:23:09] vibing about
[00:23:11] just
[00:23:13] what the Renaissance Festival
[00:23:15] should be all about.
[00:23:17] Like they really, their heart seems to
[00:23:19] be in the right place.
[00:23:21] Yeah, so the thing about the festival is
[00:23:23] that the festival lasts for
[00:23:25] like a few weeks but
[00:23:27] these people have
[00:23:29] moved to this town so all
[00:23:31] the people who work at the Renaissance Festival
[00:23:33] they're there year-round and so it's
[00:23:35] basically a community.
[00:23:37] And Brandy, his wife
[00:23:39] and Jeff,
[00:23:41] they're in this community and they live this community
[00:23:43] they love everybody around here
[00:23:45] they obviously love the acting
[00:23:47] portion of it. Brandy has a degree in theater
[00:23:49] so it just makes sense for them
[00:23:51] from their point of view to be
[00:23:53] in control of what is going to happen
[00:23:55] to this fair once it's all said and done
[00:23:57] because they're the most invested. I think they have the most
[00:23:59] skin in the game as far as they're concerned.
[00:24:01] They've been there the longest and like you said
[00:24:03] it really does feel like their heart is
[00:24:05] in it all the way.
[00:24:07] Let's talk about
[00:24:09] The Lord of Corn
[00:24:11] Louis
[00:24:13] Neglacio?
[00:24:15] Yeah, Louis
[00:24:17] He is the Lord of Corn. He's built
[00:24:19] his entire legacy off of
[00:24:21] kettle corn
[00:24:23] and he started off a small kettle corn
[00:24:25] business at the Ren Faire but now he's
[00:24:27] like it's a gigantic business
[00:24:29] got 140 people on staff
[00:24:31] and he really sees the business potential
[00:24:33] of the Ren Faire
[00:24:35] He's looking at it and saying
[00:24:37] we can make more money
[00:24:39] this is obviously very lucrative
[00:24:41] but there are definitely ways that we can
[00:24:43] change this and make some things happen to where
[00:24:45] we're making even more money. He was able to
[00:24:47] build his kettle corn business up so imagine
[00:24:49] what he could do if he was in charge of the Ren Faire
[00:24:51] so he is even going to try to
[00:24:53] make a run for
[00:24:55] the throne.
[00:24:57] He has an opening monologue
[00:24:59] on the beauty in capitalism
[00:25:01] Try that on
[00:25:03] Twitter hotshot
[00:25:05] He said
[00:25:07] and I almost vomited
[00:25:09] I don't see the negativity in capitalism
[00:25:11] what if we just made more money
[00:25:13] I said oh god here we go
[00:25:15] These people have
[00:25:17] an outrageous amount of money
[00:25:19] at some point we're going to see King George
[00:25:21] buy a doll for $1000
[00:25:23] just so he can
[00:25:25] then take the doll's clothes
[00:25:27] and then have somebody replicate the clothes
[00:25:29] to be a Renaissance Faire
[00:25:31] outfit. That's how much
[00:25:33] money these people are playing with
[00:25:35] of course they're fans of capitalism
[00:25:37] they're making bank
[00:25:39] I couldn't even imagine making that much money
[00:25:41] and then deciding to go live
[00:25:43] out in the middle of nowhere
[00:25:45] in Todd Mission Texas
[00:25:47] and play Renaissance all the time
[00:25:49] but okay if you say so
[00:25:51] I want to talk a little bit more
[00:25:53] about the Lord of Corn because I don't really get
[00:25:55] the Lord of Corn in a lot of ways
[00:25:57] first can you describe the look
[00:25:59] of the Lord of Corn
[00:26:01] yeah
[00:26:03] he's
[00:26:05] if there is a villain he looks like
[00:26:07] the villain right? He might not actually
[00:26:09] be a villain I don't think we've seen him do
[00:26:11] anything villainous but
[00:26:13] Louis looks like somebody you cannot trust
[00:26:15] um
[00:26:17] it's something about
[00:26:19] I just don't know what to tell you
[00:26:21] Rob I don't know what to tell you
[00:26:23] when he starts talking about corn I thought
[00:26:25] well this guy is harmless but you can see
[00:26:27] the kind of like light in his eyes
[00:26:29] when he talks about taking control
[00:26:31] yeah not this guy
[00:26:33] not Cone not that guy
[00:26:35] um but yeah Louis
[00:26:37] he just can't wait to be king
[00:26:39] and he's going to buy
[00:26:41] the festival from King George
[00:26:43] in order to make sure that he's
[00:26:45] the king because he's like
[00:26:47] money talks and he got it and he comes from
[00:26:49] money too so he's ready to spend it
[00:26:51] so that's the kind of thing where like
[00:26:53] his parents are
[00:26:55] investors in Renfrew so he's kind of
[00:26:57] like this Nepo baby
[00:26:59] but he also runs the whole
[00:27:01] kettle corn
[00:27:03] side of things he's got a
[00:27:05] look that he's sort of like
[00:27:07] hipster coach
[00:27:09] yeah or like if you mix
[00:27:11] coach with Scar
[00:27:13] from the Lion King
[00:27:15] yeah
[00:27:17] imagine coach
[00:27:19] imagine coach drank like 4
[00:27:21] Red Bulls a day
[00:27:23] oh he's definitely going to do more
[00:27:25] than 4 a day this man was throwing
[00:27:27] Red Bulls back at you know me I love
[00:27:29] a good Red Bull but even I
[00:27:31] at some point I was like sir put the juice down
[00:27:33] the guy was popping
[00:27:35] Red Bull cans open pouring them
[00:27:37] in you know what
[00:27:39] kills me like
[00:27:41] bruh go to Costco
[00:27:43] what are you doing you drink that many Red Bulls
[00:27:45] a day and you're buying them at a gas station
[00:27:48] we have this gas station here
[00:27:50] would you like to drive 45 minutes
[00:27:52] to the nearest
[00:27:54] Walmart I doubt it
[00:27:56] but by now
[00:27:58] you should be able to maybe work
[00:28:00] out something with the convenience store where they'll sell it
[00:28:02] to you in bulk you know what I'm saying because buying
[00:28:04] one Red Bull at a time is wild
[00:28:06] Amazon them I've done it before
[00:28:08] they'll send you a case it's fine
[00:28:10] there's got to be something better than this because he's going through
[00:28:12] he's going through a pack a day it's not even
[00:28:14] just like a few Red Bulls a day
[00:28:16] he's killing a case easily every week
[00:28:47] Okay round 2
[00:28:49] name something that's not
[00:28:51] boring. Laundry?
[00:28:53] Oh a book club

[00:30:58] The king of corn
[00:31:00] Has a plan
[00:31:02] That is to make an offer
[00:31:04] To King George
[00:31:06] That he can't refuse
[00:31:08] An offer
[00:31:10] Thousands of dollars
[00:31:12] To which
[00:31:14] King George can dedicate that to
[00:31:16] Various sugar babies
[00:31:18] Yeah
[00:31:20] Or maybe just one
[00:31:22] And a sugar baby statue
[00:31:24] He does also have a statue outside
[00:31:26] Yeah what's going on with the statue
[00:31:28] I couldn't understand what the controversy was
[00:31:30] About the statue
[00:31:32] So somebody
[00:31:34] Wanted to
[00:31:36] I guess the tenants
[00:31:38] Wanted to surprise George
[00:31:40] With a statue
[00:31:42] And so they raised all this money
[00:31:44] In order to get the statue made
[00:31:46] They have the statue made
[00:31:48] And now that it's outside
[00:31:50] People are making fun of the statue
[00:31:52] Because why do you have a statue of this old man
[00:31:54] Who is basically
[00:31:56] The mascot for sugar daddy dot com
[00:31:58] You know and so they're all laughing
[00:32:00] Like oh in order to come to the rent fair
[00:32:02] You gotta bend the knee and drop off some condoms
[00:32:04] And lube for this old man
[00:32:06] It's a bad look
[00:32:08] I don't know
[00:32:10] I guess
[00:32:12] I was gonna say
[00:32:14] Yes
[00:32:18] I was gonna say
[00:32:20] Does he need that many condoms
[00:32:22] I guess so
[00:32:24] If some of these women are still
[00:32:26] Do you want
[00:32:28] The king's baby though
[00:32:30] Yeah he doesn't want to give
[00:32:32] Anybody a baby
[00:32:34] That's not his goal
[00:32:36] If they want his baby they're gonna have to act fast
[00:32:38] Because he's not gonna have anything to leave him to once he sells everything
[00:32:40] But he wants to liquidate
[00:32:42] All his stuff
[00:32:44] So that he can spend all his money on the sugar babies
[00:32:46] And live his life of luxury just doing his art
[00:32:48] And having whatever he wants
[00:32:50] So the statue does come up as a point of contention
[00:32:52] Because I think it's a bad look for the outside world
[00:32:54] Like people are on message boards
[00:32:56] Laughing at King George
[00:32:58] And his sex obsession with sugar babies
[00:33:00] Come to find out
[00:33:02] He actually paid for that statue
[00:33:04] He wanted it to be a gift to him
[00:33:06] But when he found out about the artist
[00:33:08] He went ahead and paid him over $150,000 for that
[00:33:10] So he came out of his own pocket
[00:33:12] For his gift from the community
[00:33:14] So they were just trying to publicize
[00:33:16] That a little bit more
[00:33:18] To show how generous he is
[00:33:20] When he could have just accepted that gift
[00:33:22] And made them all spend their own money on it
[00:33:24] But why does the king need so much money
[00:33:26] Like I can understand if there was
[00:33:28] A sugar baby
[00:33:30] That was in house
[00:33:32] And he's like, hey, King George
[00:33:34] I need more money here
[00:33:36] He doesn't even have
[00:33:38] A date yet
[00:33:40] Why does he need the millions of dollars?
[00:33:42] Well he has the millions of dollars
[00:33:44] And he has the liquid
[00:33:46] He has probably money and liquid assets
[00:33:48] I think they said they had $5 million
[00:33:50] In the account
[00:33:52] But then the lifestyle that he's living is so lavish
[00:33:54] We see his home
[00:33:56] He has a shower
[00:33:58] It's a huge shower
[00:34:00] It doesn't even need a shower curtain
[00:34:02] Because it's that spacious
[00:34:04] He's got all these ornate
[00:34:06] Decorations everywhere
[00:34:08] He's living in the life of luxury
[00:34:10] In this big mansion
[00:34:12] In the middle of nowhere
[00:34:14] And so when he dies
[00:34:16] He doesn't have a successor
[00:34:18] He doesn't have a child to leave this to
[00:34:20] He doesn't have anybody to put this in his will
[00:34:22] And give it to
[00:34:24] So from his point of view
[00:34:26] He's like, well I can't take it with me
[00:34:28] So he can retire
[00:34:30] And then spend his money on whoever the lucky
[00:34:32] Sugar baby
[00:34:34] Or I guess sugar babies potentially
[00:34:36] Whoever they are for the next nine years
[00:34:38] I don't want to say a harem
[00:34:40] But kind of
[00:34:42] Yeah, okay
[00:34:44] So we end up spending some time
[00:34:46] A little bit of a day in the life
[00:34:48] Of what's going on
[00:34:50] And we see Jeff
[00:34:52] Dealing with
[00:34:54] Various issues
[00:34:56] We also see some of the things that Louie is up to
[00:34:58] Here's what I don't understand
[00:35:00] Does Louie sort of have
[00:35:02] A side hustle that is
[00:35:04] The steampunk Victorian
[00:35:06] Burlesque bar
[00:35:08] Or is that part of this?
[00:35:10] This feels like part of the Renaissance Fair
[00:35:12] It does because he's putting a lot
[00:35:14] Of his effort and time into making
[00:35:16] The burlesque thing happen
[00:35:18] But it doesn't feel like it's a part of the storyline
[00:35:20] It just feels like this is his day to day
[00:35:22] He does the corn stuff
[00:35:24] And I do the burlesque stuff
[00:35:26] Meanwhile Jeff is out actually running
[00:35:28] The park and keeping the train on the tracks
[00:35:30] So within the first hour
[00:35:32] Of television
[00:35:34] I already have decided
[00:35:36] I feel like I'm team Jeff here
[00:35:38] Okay, this is a great question
[00:35:40] Because I am so curious
[00:35:42] Chappelle
[00:35:44] And I don't think that we know this information
[00:35:46] Of
[00:35:48] Who's making this?
[00:35:50] Who's sold this?
[00:35:53] That's a good question
[00:35:55] Who came to
[00:35:57] Whose idea was this?
[00:35:59] Somebody has to go
[00:36:01] To
[00:36:03] The production company with this idea
[00:36:05] Does the production company say hey we want to make a documentary
[00:36:07] About the Renaissance Fair and then they get all this access?
[00:36:11] They're going to follow Jeff all the way to
[00:36:13] Germany?
[00:36:15] Yeah someone brought this up
[00:36:17] For sure and was like hey I want to do this
[00:36:19] I have a good story to tell
[00:36:21] Please give us money for this
[00:36:23] And for some reason HBO was like okay
[00:36:25] Cool sounds good because there are
[00:36:27] Points where
[00:36:29] The camera is in two different countries
[00:36:31] Jeff goes to Germany and they go
[00:36:33] Over there with him
[00:36:35] So I think we asked
[00:36:37] Some questions of who looks good
[00:36:39] And who looks bad
[00:36:41] Jeff comes across looking
[00:36:43] Good
[00:36:45] Maybe a little bit like of
[00:36:47] Naive
[00:36:49] I feel like overall
[00:36:51] If you're watching this
[00:36:53] Aren't you rooting for Jeff to run
[00:36:55] The Renaissance Fair?
[00:36:57] And if that's the case though
[00:36:59] Why does Louis allow the production
[00:37:01] To have completely unfettered
[00:37:03] Access to his comings and goings?
[00:37:07] So I don't know if Louis
[00:37:09] Knew that they were going to
[00:37:11] Paint him as the big bad capitalist
[00:37:13] That was going to potentially take
[00:37:15] This from Jeff but that is the vibe
[00:37:17] I'm kidding
[00:37:19] Don't get me wrong
[00:37:21] Jeff ain't no angel either
[00:37:23] Because the word of the day
[00:37:25] Rob is nepotism
[00:37:27] And now that King George has realized
[00:37:29] What's going on under his nose
[00:37:31] He's not a fan of Jeff
[00:37:33] So Jeff and his wife are basically in charge
[00:37:35] But his wife got the job
[00:37:37] Of director of entertainment
[00:37:39] From Jeff
[00:37:41] And so now all of a sudden
[00:37:43] Even though she's been doing this job for a while
[00:37:45] You know what's not good?
[00:37:47] Nepotism. It's completely unacceptable
[00:37:49] You can't do that
[00:37:51] And if you do nepotism
[00:37:53] If you even look like you're going to give
[00:37:55] A job to somebody that you're related to
[00:37:57] Or akin to
[00:37:59] I can't trust you
[00:38:01] I can't trust you to run my fair
[00:38:03] And so from his point of view
[00:38:05] He's like Jeff you're not cut out for this
[00:38:07] Because you shouldn't have gave your wife
[00:38:09] That job in the first place
[00:38:11] But the whole idea of the nepo baby
[00:38:13] Is that the sense that Jeff's wife
[00:38:15] Is ill suited
[00:38:17] To be the entertainment director
[00:38:19] No
[00:38:21] I mean she has a degree in theater
[00:38:23] So if she's directing entertainment
[00:38:25] 15 years of improv
[00:38:27] Right it sounds like she has the pedigree
[00:38:29] But the question still remains
[00:38:31] Does she get that job
[00:38:33] Is she the most qualified person that applied for that job
[00:38:35] Or did anybody even stand a chance
[00:38:37] You know she does have the pedigree
[00:38:39] But it doesn't necessarily mean she wouldn't have gotten the job
[00:38:41] Regardless
[00:38:43] Whoever planted this into George's head
[00:38:45] Which we're lead to believe is Louis
[00:38:47] Has lead him to believe that
[00:38:49] This is just bad practice
[00:38:51] Anyway bad business practice
[00:38:53] It's frowned upon to HR issue
[00:38:55] We're just not going to do it
[00:38:57] It probably doesn't help either that
[00:38:59] For some reason it looks like George doesn't have any family of his own
[00:39:01] So he also can't see the novelty
[00:39:03] Or the reason why
[00:39:05] Somebody would be able to give
[00:39:07] Something like that to their nearest relative
[00:39:09] Or family member
[00:39:11] Because he doesn't have anybody to give it to
[00:39:13] So he's like nah I wouldn't want that to happen to me
[00:39:15] So I don't want Jeff to get away with doing this
[00:39:17] For Brandy
[00:39:19] So it does look like although Jeff might be
[00:39:21] I think he's giving like oldest child
[00:39:23] In one of these shows
[00:39:25] You know like Kendall Roy
[00:39:27] Where it's like yeah it seems like we should be rooting for you
[00:39:29] But also do you even understand the business side of this
[00:39:31] Or do you just really like the fair
[00:39:33] So Jeff
[00:39:35] At a couple points comes across
[00:39:37] As like a little naive
[00:39:39] A little bit of a blowhard
[00:39:41] He is you know talking with
[00:39:43] His wife
[00:39:45] And they're going off to Germany
[00:39:47] To go and look at a renaissance festival
[00:39:49] In Germany and do some research
[00:39:51] It's unclear as to
[00:39:53] Kind of like a mob movie
[00:39:55] Of like did they send him away
[00:39:57] So that they could
[00:39:59] Do this deal while he's not there
[00:40:01] He's very aware
[00:40:03] That that could be the case too
[00:40:05] Because him and Brandy sit around and talk
[00:40:07] And although they're excited to go to Germany
[00:40:09] They say well what's to say
[00:40:11] That we come back and we don't have a job
[00:40:13] Because the past general manager
[00:40:15] That's how they lost their job
[00:40:17] Is because they left for long enough
[00:40:19] To where they came back and they were out of fire
[00:40:21] So yeah it does look like maybe
[00:40:23] By getting Jeff over to Germany
[00:40:25] They're able to make this deal
[00:40:27] And the craziest thing about this deal
[00:40:29] Is that King George is all in on it
[00:40:31] You know so it's like Jeff is fighting an uphill battle
[00:40:34] And Brandy is not even considering him for the job
[00:40:36] It's like a battle for the throne
[00:40:38] And he's not in the running
[00:40:40] So one of the interesting things
[00:40:42] That they do in this show
[00:40:44] Is that
[00:40:46] This is presented as sort of like
[00:40:48] A straight documentary
[00:40:50] But then also
[00:40:52] There's a lot of
[00:40:54] Playing with the reality
[00:40:56] Of this
[00:40:58] And at times we are getting
[00:41:00] George's inner monologue
[00:41:02] As he is convening
[00:41:04] With the spirits
[00:41:06] And the deities
[00:41:08] Yeah he has
[00:41:10] Angels that he talks to
[00:41:12] That he confides in
[00:41:14] He has a few altars
[00:41:16] He's a very spiritual man
[00:41:18] And so he'll go to one of his angels
[00:41:20] For companionship
[00:41:22] Like this is the angel I pray to
[00:41:24] To make sure I can find my companion
[00:41:26] That's why he knows how long he's going to live
[00:41:28] Because he's been putting his faith
[00:41:30] Whatever his spiritual beliefs are
[00:41:32] And it does lead him to
[00:41:34] Going and talking to some inanimate objects
[00:41:36] Sometimes and the show really does
[00:41:38] Play around with that
[00:41:40] They also do some cool production things with the phone calls too
[00:41:42] If you make a phone call on one end
[00:41:44] Somehow the camera crew just happens to be
[00:41:46] Following the person on the other end every time
[00:41:48] And so we get both ends of the conversation a lot of times too
[00:41:50] Yeah and
[00:41:52] He's talking with the deities and you hear them like
[00:41:54] Sell it, sell it, sell it
[00:41:56] Sell it
[00:41:58] Listen to Leonard
[00:42:00] And so we're gonna see
[00:42:02] Where then
[00:42:04] The king of corn, Louis
[00:42:06] Is going to sit down with George
[00:42:08] And he says look
[00:42:10] I've got the money
[00:42:12] Let's talk about this
[00:42:14] Jeff is calling
[00:42:16] Goes to voicemail
[00:42:18] Straight to voicemail
[00:42:20] Yeah George normally picks up
[00:42:22] But George is in a meeting
[00:42:24] And we get both sides. We get Jeff calling from Germany
[00:42:26] And we get George in the meeting forwarding his calls
[00:42:28] And Jeff gave like a
[00:42:30] Desperate sounding voicemail
[00:42:32] It's like hey George
[00:42:34] Wish you were here
[00:42:36] Oh man, having so much fun
[00:42:38] You know
[00:42:40] Let's talk later
[00:42:42] I hope I can leave you a message
[00:42:44] And we can talk more
[00:42:46] So you call me when you get this okay
[00:42:48] Love you
[00:42:50] Bye
[00:42:52] Every time you're like a father to me
[00:42:54] I'm like oh hopefully you're not off selling this thing
[00:42:56] That I think I earned
[00:42:58] No stop being wild right
[00:43:00] You're not doing that
[00:43:02] Anyway love you bye call me back bye
[00:43:04] It was a little cringy
[00:43:06] When then Jeff and his
[00:43:08] Lovely wife
[00:43:10] Brandi
[00:43:12] Brandi wanted to go home
[00:43:14] At the end of the day
[00:43:16] Just like no no
[00:43:18] Gotta work hard for George
[00:43:20] He made his wife swear
[00:43:22] To King George
[00:43:24] Look at what he's done
[00:43:26] For us I've never had to make a cell phone payment
[00:43:28] Okay so
[00:43:32] It was cringy
[00:43:34] Comma but
[00:43:36] Jeff made some points
[00:43:38] He like listen lady this is all we have
[00:43:40] Our whole life
[00:43:42] My whole life's work is this park
[00:43:44] If this man needs me to go to Germany
[00:43:46] To make sure this park is cool
[00:43:48] I'mma do that why because we have never
[00:43:50] Had to pay for anything
[00:43:52] The only phone I've ever had
[00:43:54] This man gave to us
[00:43:56] We don't pay for a phone bill
[00:43:58] We don't gotta worry about food water
[00:44:00] We got a whole community we live in
[00:44:02] The mayor of the town
[00:44:04] I'm his favorite person
[00:44:06] You're not gonna mess this up for me
[00:44:08] But I wanna go home
[00:44:10] Shut up Brandi
[00:44:12] Swear fealty to my dad
[00:44:14] What are you crazy
[00:44:16] Do it
[00:44:18] Tell everybody that we worship King George
[00:44:20] And she's like
[00:44:22] He's a king
[00:44:24] Was that so hard
[00:44:26] Come on stop it
[00:44:28] He making some points
[00:44:30] He even talks about King George
[00:44:32] He's our benefactor
[00:44:34] He talks about him like he's his sugar daddy
[00:44:36] A little bit
[00:44:38] I'm not going back to work for real
[00:44:40] This man is just paying me all this money
[00:44:42] We getting rich off of him
[00:44:44] This is our livelihood
[00:44:48] Jeff is gonna get a phone call
[00:44:50] He's at the
[00:44:52] He's watching the jousting match
[00:44:54] It's his assistant
[00:44:56] One of his little bros
[00:44:58] Lauren
[00:45:00] Lauren's like hey Jeff
[00:45:02] I can't talk right now
[00:45:04] I gotta tell you something
[00:45:06] Louis is gonna buy the Renaissance Fair
[00:45:10] Yeah I like Lauren
[00:45:12] Lauren's character is set up
[00:45:14] We could think she's Jeff's assistant
[00:45:16] But she is the master of whispers
[00:45:18] She's good at blending in
[00:45:20] She can hide in plain sight
[00:45:22] And so the documentary
[00:45:24] Which at this point I'm starting to question
[00:45:26] How much documentary this is
[00:45:28] And it's not just movie magic
[00:45:30] Because the documentary literally shows
[00:45:32] Her at the burlesque show
[00:45:34] Where Louis is announcing his evil scheme
[00:45:36] To buy the carnival
[00:45:38] Or the festival
[00:45:40] He's announcing his evil scheme
[00:45:42] To his minions
[00:45:44] And he's like ha ha ha
[00:45:46] And his son too
[00:45:48] All the hyenas are laughing
[00:45:50] And she's over in the crowd taking notes
[00:45:52] Like oh yeah I gotta run this back
[00:45:54] And so yeah she does
[00:45:56] She runs it back
[00:45:58] And immediately Jeff realizes
[00:46:00] That he's made a mistake
[00:46:02] He's made a grave error
[00:46:04] Because he's all the way in Germany
[00:46:06] Big mistake
[00:46:08] It's a huge mistake
[00:46:10] Because he's in Germany
[00:46:12] And Louis is about to make his big bid
[00:46:15] And he's going to buy the carnival fairground
[00:46:17] So if he buys the Ren Faire
[00:46:19] It doesn't matter what the general manager wants
[00:46:21] Because more than likely
[00:46:23] You ain't gonna be king no more
[00:46:25] This is a wrap
[00:46:27] And this is kind of where hour one ends
[00:46:29] Jeff is feeling like
[00:46:31] I deserve it
[00:46:33] Louis doesn't
[00:46:35] There is definitely some King Lear allegory
[00:46:37] That Jeff and his wife
[00:46:39] Are talking about
[00:46:41] That he basically says
[00:46:43] That he's like the
[00:46:45] Good daughter of King Lear
[00:46:47] With the pure heart
[00:46:49] Louis isn't
[00:46:51] There are two hours left
[00:46:53] Of this documentary Chappelle
[00:46:55] Where is this going?
[00:46:59] Well I'm assuming
[00:47:01] I'm assuming Jeff's gonna come back
[00:47:03] From Germany
[00:47:05] And really have to at some point
[00:47:07] Call Louis out on his
[00:47:09] Back dealings
[00:47:11] I thought you were worried about corn
[00:47:13] Since when do you want to be in charge of this?
[00:47:15] And hold on
[00:47:17] Before we continue
[00:47:19] We didn't really talk about the corn of it all
[00:47:21] He does like wand offs
[00:47:23] That's what I wrote in my notes
[00:47:25] He does a wand off of corn
[00:47:27] Right what is he doing?
[00:47:29] The guy's like
[00:47:31] It's too much
[00:47:33] It was horrible
[00:47:35] Corn this way
[00:47:37] We're corn this way baby
[00:47:39] Was that what it was?
[00:47:41] I think it was a different lady guy
[00:47:43] Corn this way is a hundred
[00:47:45] Times better than what he was doing
[00:47:47] It was caught in a corn romance
[00:47:49] Yeah caught in a corn romance
[00:47:51] Corn this way
[00:47:53] Is brilliant Chappelle
[00:47:55] Give yourself a Wiggler's Wombat's hat
[00:47:57] Thank you
[00:47:59] Caught in a corn romance
[00:48:01] It wasn't that good
[00:48:03] The other one was corn to the world
[00:48:05] And we built this city on cuddle corn
[00:48:07] Anytime you reference Starship
[00:48:09] It's a losing fight
[00:48:11] This guy doesn't deserve this land
[00:48:13] Maybe that's what Jeff is going to do
[00:48:15] He's going to come back
[00:48:17] And he's going to challenge this man to a joust
[00:48:19] Or some type of duel
[00:48:21] That would be pretty impressive
[00:48:23] If they do a joust
[00:48:25] I don't think you have to
[00:48:27] Because this is the world they live in
[00:48:29] We've been talking about this
[00:48:31] When they interviewed the random
[00:48:33] NPCs from around the park
[00:48:35] They're all really talking about
[00:48:37] How much they love George
[00:48:39] This one woman says
[00:48:41] I worship God and George
[00:48:43] My life would not be the same if it wasn't for George
[00:48:45] It's almost cultish
[00:48:47] And so yeah
[00:48:49] I could see them trying to handle things
[00:48:51] In house with something like a joust
[00:48:53] I wonder if
[00:48:55] We start to see where there's
[00:48:57] A little bit of a coup d'etat
[00:48:59] Where Jeff ends up
[00:49:01] Building support among
[00:49:03] The other workers
[00:49:05] And NPCs at the renaissance fair
[00:49:07] To convince King George
[00:49:09] Really
[00:49:11] I feel like if somebody could just
[00:49:13] Get King George a date
[00:49:15] Maybe that doesn't need that much cash
[00:49:17] I kind of feel like
[00:49:19] We're able to solve this problem
[00:49:21] I don't even think money is an object
[00:49:23] I think he's fine
[00:49:25] The woman could say
[00:49:27] I need 5 million dollars
[00:49:29] He cannot take the money with him
[00:49:31] He's actually dying to spend the money
[00:49:33] I think maybe
[00:49:35] They're doing this the wrong way
[00:49:37] I feel like he's
[00:49:39] Trying to spend the money
[00:49:41] And then die
[00:49:43] Yeah you're right
[00:49:45] He's trying to spend the money before he dies
[00:49:47] But regardless
[00:49:49] He wants to get rid of all this money
[00:49:51] He cannot take it with him
[00:49:53] If he dies I'm sure his will is going to be left
[00:49:55] To the town that he created
[00:49:57] So I think for him
[00:49:59] You're right, Jeff should probably be trying to find him a mate
[00:50:01] And that might win his favor
[00:50:03] Am I wrong about this?
[00:50:05] Does Jeff
[00:50:07] Believe that he's going to
[00:50:09] Be named the successor in
[00:50:11] The Will
[00:50:13] Does that count?
[00:50:15] Well yeah so the Will conversation
[00:50:17] Is different
[00:50:19] So the episode was called
[00:50:21] Daddy's Dying Who's Got the Will
[00:50:23] Or something like that
[00:50:25] Was the name of the show
[00:50:27] That Jeff starred in
[00:50:29] In college or something like that
[00:50:31] That's when he found out his own dad died
[00:50:33] His dad died
[00:50:35] In the middle of rehearsal
[00:50:37] And so they named the episode Daddy's Dying Who's Got the Will
[00:50:39] And I think it fits because
[00:50:41] Yeah you look around
[00:50:43] And I don't think King George has a will
[00:50:45] With anybody's name in it
[00:50:47] And so I think he's trying to get in the Will
[00:50:49] If nothing else
[00:50:51] Or he's trying to get that crown before King George goes
[00:50:53] What if he meets a woman in episode 2?
[00:50:56] I think he
[00:50:58] Rob this man probably meets a lot of women
[00:51:00] He's on 15 dating sites
[00:51:02] And there's sugar daddy sites
[00:51:04] So the women that are on those sites
[00:51:06] Are looking for a King George type
[00:51:08] What is he doing wrong Chappelle?
[00:51:10] Why isn't this working?
[00:51:12] I don't think he's doing anything wrong
[00:51:14] I think that what we don't see
[00:51:16] Is that King George be out in the streets
[00:51:18] These women be coming through
[00:51:20] I think he's looking for the woman
[00:51:22] That he's going to settle down with
[00:51:24] And retire his scepter
[00:51:26] Or only give his scepter to one person
[00:51:28] But I think King George is a big ole ho
[00:51:30] I think that's what's going on
[00:51:32] He's trying to move away from that
[00:51:34] Well I'm very intrigued
[00:51:36] To see where this is going to go
[00:51:38] From here
[00:51:40] This is what?
[00:51:42] 2021?
[00:51:44] Yeah
[00:51:46] And so yeah
[00:51:48] This is the 50 year anniversary
[00:51:50] Of the Texas Renaissance Festival
[00:51:52] And the 50 year anniversary
[00:51:54] Of the Texas Renaissance Festival
[00:51:56] Is this year
[00:51:58] This October
[00:52:00] And so Rob I know you're going to ask
[00:52:02] So I'll go ahead and just agree to it
[00:52:04] Sure I'll go to the Renaissance Fair
[00:52:06] This time boots on the ground
[00:52:08] To see who exactly is in charge
[00:52:10] How far would this be for you?
[00:52:12] It's not that far
[00:52:14] Almost like two hours
[00:52:16] And like I said I've been before
[00:52:18] I actually talked to one of my friends
[00:52:20] I'd go to that
[00:52:22] I thought it would be funny
[00:52:24] I used to go when I was a kid
[00:52:26] I have to imagine they have good alcohol
[00:52:28] They got like mead or something
[00:52:30] I can drink
[00:52:32] I bet they don't have hard liquor
[00:52:34] It seems like a lot of ale
[00:52:36] I don't like a good ale
[00:52:38] They didn't really talk about any alcohol drinks
[00:52:40] I kind of want to explore that
[00:52:42] I need to go see
[00:52:44] It's in the middle of a fairground
[00:52:46] It's very light
[00:52:48] There's a lot of games and stuff out there
[00:52:50] But also a bunch of crazy people
[00:52:52] So there has to be alcohol involved as well
[00:52:54] I'm ready to check it out
[00:52:56] Put me in the game coach
[00:52:58] So the filmmaker
[00:53:00] That ends up
[00:53:02] Making this
[00:53:04] His name is
[00:53:06] Lance Oppenheim
[00:53:10] That with the bomb?
[00:53:12] Lance Oppenheim
[00:53:14] Is the director of the series
[00:53:16] He put this all together
[00:53:18] Do you want to hear about one of his other projects
[00:53:20] That has gotten some recent acclaim
[00:53:22] Sure
[00:53:24] That he is also
[00:53:26] According to Variety
[00:53:28] It's the
[00:53:30] Collaborative ethos that 28 year old filmmaker
[00:53:32] Established with his doc feature
[00:53:34] Debut Some Kind of Heaven
[00:53:36] About the soul searching routines
[00:53:38] Of the villages, the world's biggest retirement community
[00:53:40] He further explored the approach
[00:53:42] With this years Sperm World
[00:53:44] Which centers on three men
[00:53:46] Who find fulfillment in the unregulated ecosystem
[00:53:48] Of online sperm donor ship
[00:53:50] Sam find out
[00:53:54] Is Sperm World on Netflix
[00:53:56] Rob
[00:53:58] It's on Hulu
[00:54:00] And it was on FX
[00:54:02] How did we miss this
[00:54:04] Okay now I have to talk to them not to Netflix
[00:54:06] Did Crime Scene already do it
[00:54:08] No I don't think this is crime
[00:54:10] Is it crime
[00:54:12] Sperm World
[00:54:14] Sperm Kings who use
[00:54:16] Facebook to donate to dozens
[00:54:18] Or hundreds of women
[00:54:20] Donating sperm makes me feel good
[00:54:22] Maybe it makes me feel
[00:54:24] Wanted and needed
[00:54:26] Worth something to somebody else
[00:54:28] What are the subjects of Sperm World
[00:54:32] I got nothing
[00:54:34] I really want to know how this slipped through our radar
[00:54:36] Because like I said I have to talk to the Netflix listeners now
[00:54:38] I know this was on Hulu
[00:54:40] But we've opened our world to other streaming services
[00:54:42] As we have with this one
[00:54:44] So if you see Sperm World is on Hulu
[00:54:46] Y'all gotta tell us
[00:54:48] We were supposed to check this out
[00:54:50] How did we miss this
[00:54:52] It dropped in March of this year
[00:54:54] So we just missed it not too long ago
[00:54:56] I don't know
[00:54:58] We might have to go check this out
[00:55:00] I feel like somebody has to do some investigation
[00:55:02] It says the Sperm Kings have a problem
[00:55:04] Colon too much demand
[00:55:06] Too much demand
[00:55:08] Yeah that was a New York Times
[00:55:10] Article that inspired this
[00:55:12] I might check it out
[00:55:14] I might see if it's wacky
[00:55:16] Because it sounds wacky
[00:55:18] Yeah
[00:55:20] And it's also on Fubo
[00:55:22] Yeah
[00:55:24] According to Sam
[00:55:26] Okay alright
[00:55:28] So we'll come back next week
[00:55:30] And talk about
[00:55:32] Part 2
[00:55:34] It's really episodes 2 and 3
[00:55:36] Of Ren Faire
[00:55:38] Here as we continue taking it to the max
[00:55:40] I feel like
[00:55:42] What
[00:55:44] The comparisons to Tiger King is cool
[00:55:46] Because it's kind of like this man who is
[00:55:48] The master of his own domain
[00:55:50] If you will
[00:55:52] That's not the Sperm Kings
[00:55:54] Well he's a king of something
[00:55:56] He might be a Sperm King too
[00:55:58] We'll have to ask Leonard
[00:56:00] But it does feel like he's the top of this ecosystem
[00:56:02] That he's created
[00:56:04] But I think we're missing some characters
[00:56:06] They do like a lower third
[00:56:08] Of people throughout this that we don't really hear from
[00:56:10] But I want more information about
[00:56:12] Those people because
[00:56:14] That was the thing about the Tiger King
[00:56:16] Joe Exotic was wild
[00:56:18] He was an insane person
[00:56:20] But the supporting cast was equally insane
[00:56:22] And so I kind of want to see
[00:56:24] What these people bring to the table
[00:56:26] The court gesture we only get one little quote from him
[00:56:28] We get the woman who says she worships the king
[00:56:30] And God at the same time
[00:56:32] And then we get like
[00:56:34] Just a little glimpse of Laura
[00:56:36] The fairy godmother
[00:56:38] Did you get her?
[00:56:40] She's a woman of a certain age wearing fairy godmother wings
[00:56:42] And smoking a cigarette
[00:56:44] These are the people I want to talk to
[00:56:46] We also didn't really discuss
[00:56:48] George has cancer
[00:56:50] So he's
[00:56:52] Actively
[00:56:54] Going to pass away soon
[00:56:56] But he knows that he's going to live
[00:56:58] Into 95
[00:57:00] But it sounds like he's having an operation
[00:57:02] It sounds like he has cancer
[00:57:04] But it does sound operable
[00:57:06] Yeah, I mean his thing is that he's going to die at 95 regardless
[00:57:08] Whether y'all kill him or not
[00:57:10] So he knows
[00:57:12] He's manifesting
[00:57:14] And that's where he's going to get to
[00:57:16] So I want to meet more of those people
[00:57:18] I want to hear more from Victor the King Scroller
[00:57:20] I got a lot of questions
[00:57:22] Chappelle, some other Netflix news
[00:57:24] From this week
[00:57:26] The Mike Tyson
[00:57:28] Jake Paul Netflix boxing match
[00:57:30] Has been postponed
[00:57:32] Oh no
[00:57:34] Isn't it because Mike Tyson got hurt
[00:57:36] Mike Tyson had some kind of
[00:57:38] Episode on a plane or something like that
[00:57:40] So
[00:57:42] That will be
[00:57:44] Held up for now
[00:57:46] Dang
[00:57:48] Are we going to talk about that on Nothing But Netflix soon?
[00:57:50] Well, it was going to be on July 20th
[00:57:52] It was kind of coming up
[00:57:54] Yeah, now they're going to postpone it
[00:57:56] I mean, Nothing But Netflix is still here
[00:57:58] Then we'll still do it
[00:58:00] So it looks like maybe October
[00:58:02] Could be the time
[00:58:04] Where Jake Paul
[00:58:06] Fights Mike Tyson
[00:58:10] When was the last time you watched a boxing match?
[00:58:12] I don't know, I think maybe
[00:58:14] Tyson Holyfield
[00:58:16] Okay, so this is going to be fun
[00:58:18] Did Lennox Lewis fight Tyson?
[00:58:20] He did, yes he did
[00:58:22] Yes, so
[00:58:24] I guess that might be what
[00:58:26] 2001, 2002
[00:58:28] 2002
[00:58:30] Yeah, okay, you knew that?
[00:58:32] You looked it up or you knew from
[00:58:34] No, I knew that
[00:58:36] You knew the year?
[00:58:38] I mean, you said 2001 and 2002
[00:58:40] So I just narrowed it down, I know it's 2002
[00:58:42] Yeah, okay
[00:58:44] That might have been the last boxing match
[00:58:46] Other than the Celebrity Net fights
[00:58:48] Oh, okay
[00:58:50] Oh, did you see the most recent Celebrity Net fights?
[00:58:52] Man, it was interesting
[00:58:54] Okay
[00:58:57] I don't know if I'm the only person
[00:58:59] For those who remember
[00:59:01] That was your Texas Renaissance Fair
[00:59:03] It really was the first one, this is the second one
[00:59:05] I'm telling you, boots on the ground
[00:59:07] I can handle this one, send Jacob Jones and I to the Renaissance Fair
[00:59:09] Let's get it done
[00:59:11] What do you think of reality jousting?
[00:59:15] Okay, you have my attention
[00:59:17] Venus, Maria
[00:59:19] Jousted out?
[00:59:21] No, I don't
[00:59:23] Venus has gone through a lot
[00:59:25] We don't need her to get bored
[00:59:27] I mean, Maria will kill her
[00:59:29] She will kill her in a joust
[00:59:31] Yeah, whatever doesn't kill her makes her stronger
[00:59:33] That part
[00:59:35] But yeah, I think that
[00:59:37] Yeah, I don't know
[00:59:39] That sounds like it's unsafe
[00:59:41] Maybe there's a safer alternative
[00:59:43] Celebrity water balloon fighting
[00:59:45] All right
[00:59:47] Chappelle, we're going to come back next week
[00:59:49] With more Ren Faire
[00:59:51] And then for following that
[00:59:53] Keep us posted on what you want to hear us talk about on Nothing But Netflix
[00:59:55] Chappelle, what's coming up for you?
[00:59:57] A lot of content
[00:59:59] Coming on RHAP
[01:00:01] Obviously, I'm still talking about The Goat
[01:00:03] With Jenny Autumn
[01:00:05] And we're having a great time
[01:00:07] We'll be doing
[01:00:09] I think I'm doing an exit interview this week as well
[01:00:11] With the most recently eliminated
[01:00:13] Contestant from The Goat
[01:00:15] So that should be fun
[01:00:17] Also, I joined Jenny and Puya to talk about Milf Manor
[01:00:19] This is your warning
[01:00:21] Just don't listen to it
[01:00:23] Check out next week's episode
[01:00:25] When we get the panel together
[01:00:27] And we talk about the next episode of Milf Manor
[01:00:29] And then
[01:00:31] Over on RecapKickback.com
[01:00:33] I got a lot of stuff going on over there
[01:00:35] We recently talked about Actor Age on Netflix
[01:00:37] It's in the top 5 or top 10 on Netflix
[01:00:39] I think it was number 5 last time I checked
[01:00:41] But the creators of the show
[01:00:43] Have reached out to me
[01:00:45] They were very happy with my review
[01:00:47] Yeah, Gia and I, I guess we killed it
[01:00:49] So hopefully we get some interviews or something
[01:00:51] So check that out
[01:00:53] And then check out Actor Age
[01:00:55] We were just trying to figure out if Netflix was going to renew it
[01:00:57] Right now there's no sign of that
[01:00:59] But it's so good and it's funny and it's fun
[01:01:01] So check it out
[01:01:03] This week I think I might be talking about Clipped
[01:01:05] The series about the LA Clippers
[01:01:07] LA's other team
[01:01:09] And then
[01:01:11] We got the
[01:01:13] Let's see
[01:01:15] Council Culture panel discussion
[01:01:17] Coming up with me and Tyrone
[01:01:19] And then potentially
[01:01:21] Maybe some fantasy world stuff
[01:01:23] In the future for RecapKickback as well
[01:01:25] So keep up with all of that
[01:01:27] By following me on all social media platforms
[01:01:29] At RecapKickback
[01:01:31] Or subscribing to the podcast
