[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_09]: I mean, there's been some incredible vibes to go back from 10 years ago.
[00:02:04] [SPEAKER_09]: But this was, you know, an all-timer to watch Drew Christie and watch just 42 minutes of all about Drew.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_09]: It's been called The Ballad of Drew Christie this episode.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_07]: It's an incredible song. I love this song. It's a ridiculous, ridiculous episode. Just a monument to this man's, like, willful exit, like, self-termination from the game.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_07]: From, like, a few different angles. Like, we go in on Drew in several different ways in this episode.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_07]: And it is just such an explosive flame-out that is never, like, I don't know, explosive might be the wrong word. It's a hilarious flame-out.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_07]: It's just very, very, very, very classically funny.
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_07]: And one of the funnier Survivor episodes.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_07]: But, Rob, when Survivor 47 was on this week, I spent a good chunk of that episode thinking,
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_07]: Whoa! Are we getting The Ballad of Rome? The Fall of Rome?
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_07]: Are we, like, getting, like, two of these, like, very kindred spirit episodes across this decade?
[00:03:12] [SPEAKER_07]: And we didn't quite get that.
[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_07]: But there was a moment where it really felt like, like, this is like Survivor horoscope stuff, Rob.
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_07]: Like, you really gotta read a star chart for this kind of thing.
[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and we never got that Rome was trying to throw the challenge from Survivor 47 this week.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_09]: But there is an alternative reading of the episode where you certainly could assign that.
[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_09]: But Rome himself has never said that.
[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_07]: Well, you know, you could then, Rob, theoretically say that if, you know, we're taking Rome at his word that he didn't throw the challenge.
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_07]: And we're taking Drew at his word that he did throw the challenge.
[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_07]: But if we're leaving open the possibility that these guys aren't telling us exactly the truth,
[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_07]: then for Drew, that would mean he just really sucked that day.
[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, he sucked that day.

[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_07]: Of course, thrilled that we are not only on RHAP celebrating 10 years of San Juan del Sur, Rob.
[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_07]: We are also celebrating 10 years of Survivor Kageyan and how.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_09]: Well, that's the sister project to what we're doing here was that.
[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_09]: So we decided to go through Survivor San Juan del Sur episode by episode.
[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_09]: But earlier this year, I also was sort of moved by this idea of it's been 10 years since Survivor Kageyan.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_09]: And there was an idea that I had about like, could we do some kind of like oral history of Survivor Kageyan?
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_09]: Because not only was the season so crazy, but the entire cast is they're all wild personalities, top to bottom.
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_09]: And, you know, could we reach out to all of them?
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_09]: And so it started off like, was it a podcast?
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_09]: We didn't know what to do with it.
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_09]: And so I had sort of been like, you know, something that I will do.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_09]: And I've had good results with this and also bad results with this.
[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_09]: Sometimes I'll just like put it out there.
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_09]: Not necessarily that I'll manifest it, but I'll just start talking about a thing and see, you know, who might be interested in helping.
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_07]: And really.
[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_07]: You're casting a line not unlike the great fish master Drew Christie would have.
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_07]: Right.
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_07]: Right.
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_09]: And, you know, some would say maybe setting a trap.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_09]: But I'll say casting a line.
[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_09]: And then we ended up working with some very talented producers in Dr. Amanda Rabinowitz and Lindsay Wilson and Matt Scott,
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_09]: who really collaborated to work to track down a bunch of the willing Survivor Cagayan participants and podcasters and Survivor alumni.
[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_09]: And we put together one documentary.
[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_09]: It's called I Stand Cagayan.
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_09]: We're going to have the world premiere coming up in person in Philadelphia on October 28th.
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_09]: And then we will share it with the world on Tuesday night, October 29th.
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_09]: So that is the sister project of the 10 year anniversary of Survivor Cagayan.
[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_07]: It's a blast.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_07]: And now here we are a decade on with like some really tangible results of what, you know, the seeds that were planted back then.

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_07]: And so I think that there is this real feeling of like you get a lot of value out of looking back at Tony's Ladder.

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_07]: So I think like going back and checking this stuff out has been really, really fun and doing it in this very unique way on I Stand Cagayan.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_09]: The world was shocked to see Drew Christie.
[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_09]: I don't think there was a lot of hints that Drew Christie was going home in this episode in the real time.
[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_09]: I think that this was a slow motion car crash for Drew Christie.
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_07]: Sure.
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_07]: You don't think that it was you think it was or was not evident?
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_07]: I don't think it was.
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_09]: I don't think that there was a ton of clues that he was going to be the person targeted by the group.
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_07]: Even by the end of it, you don't think?
[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_07]: I feel like, you know, coming into this episode.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_07]: Coming into the episode.
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_07]: Sure.
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_07]: I do think like they've done a decent enough job at this point establishing that Drew gets on certain people's nerves.
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_07]: And what we don't know at the time, but you can kind of appreciate after the fact is that it's the winner of the season.
[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_07]: Who's the one who's kind of getting a good hate into Drew directly?
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_07]: So like there's like, you know, there's stuff that's baked in there to lay the track for it.
[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_07]: But the thing is, is like we haven't really had this kind of conflict on Hunapu yet.
[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_07]: So it's really it's not just like the ballot of Drew Christie.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_07]: But in a lot of ways, this is a coming out party for certainly like three contestants from this season who are going to go on to repeat on Survivor and Jeremy and Keith and Wentworth.
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, like I feel like there's a lot that happens in this.
[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_09]: Well, Jeremy had really gotten his close up already in San Juan del Sur.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_09]: I think we became very close with who Jeremy was.
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_09]: And even that Natalie, she also had, you know, her two times on The Amazing Race.
[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_09]: Like we kind of knew who Natalie was and we met her maybe tangentially through her sister being voted out.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_09]: But this is also the first time we really get to see Kelly Wentworth.
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_07]: Yes.
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_07]: Another way in which this episode comes full circle with the episode that aired 10 years later.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_07]: Right.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, you know, from from out of nowhere, Genevieve pops up to take a stealth shot.
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_07]: I think you could say something similar here for Wentworth.
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_07]: And that makes this a really interesting moment in the Genevieve discourse where we don't know the future, but we do know the at least, you know, a good chunk of Wentworth's future story is perhaps yet to be finished.
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_07]: Well.
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_07]: But, you know, it's a really interesting, I think, you know, frame to look at Genevieve through and Kelly through as a result.
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_09]: Well, with all due respect to Kelly, like I feel like that this episode was not necessarily like her master stroke.
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_09]: I think that it was really you hear Missy, I think, is the first person in the episode to say that, like, what about Drew?
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_09]: And then the women come together.
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_09]: What was so interesting about this and just in regards to Kelly, I feel like that the entire like second chances season is more of her like coming out party in terms of like coming out of nowhere to have like her big moment, which doesn't really even happen in this season, which is so interesting about her story.
[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_09]: But for sure that what's interesting now, and I don't even think we knew this to the degree at the time that we recorded the evolution of strategy.
[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_09]: Drew Christie's whole thing is the mastermind is Kelly.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_09]: Kelly.
[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_09]: And everything.
[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_09]: What?
[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_09]: What are you talking about?
[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_09]: He's like, yes, she knows the show.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_09]: She's going to be the person who is that she's the best player.
[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_09]: We have to get rid of her.
[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_09]: And everybody's like, you're crazy.
[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_09]: What are you talking about?
[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_09]: And that's the wild thing to go back and watch this is that Drew Christie.
[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_07]: Drew Christie was right.
[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_09]: Was a prophet.
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_07]: He was a prophet.
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_07]: And we wondered about this.
[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_07]: This is one of those moments where like I couldn't quote it verbatim, but I know if you go back and you check the tapes and you listen, not Brian Cumble's tapes, our tapes.
[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_07]: If you go back to chapter 28 of the evolution of strategy, we're wondering this very question because we don't yet know how Wentworth does on second chance.
[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_07]: And we certainly don't know that like she'll come back for another pretty impressive run like a little later on.
[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_07]: We didn't know.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_07]: We just knew that she got voted back on and the possibility for Drew to be proven right or wrong was there.
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_07]: Whatever else you want to say about Drew Christie, at least in this one instance.
[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_07]: He was right about that.
[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_09]: Now, also in the same episode, in the early going of the episode, he tells us at home without him, these people would be nothing.
[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_09]: Nothing on a tribe with people would be nothing.
[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_09]: Nothing.
[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_09]: And for us, we know he is lying.
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_09]: He's lying.
[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_09]: Because he's on a tribe with three all time greats in Natalie, Jeremy and Kelly.
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_09]: But according to Drew, without him, these people would be nothing.
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_07]: They'd be nothing.
[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_07]: They'd be nothing.
[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_07]: Interesting.
[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_07]: I'd love to test that.

[00:16:18] [SPEAKER_09]: And Alec Christie is saying like, he, dad knew Drew wouldn't amount to anything.
