Survivor 47 Pre-Game Day 1: Aysha & Genevieve

Today, Rob and Mike discuss the first two players of the Lavo tribe, Aysha Welch and Genevieve Mushaluk.

[00:00:00] Hey everybody what's going on Rob Cestrino back here to kick off another season of

[00:00:09] Survivor Pre-Game Interviews for Survivor 47 and of course this is now such an

[00:00:18] institution here of the new era to break it all down with give it up for Mike

[00:00:25] Bloom. Yes I love getting to do this and I love especially talking about Lavo

[00:00:32] today and oh we've got a lot to talk about in this particular batch. Yes okay

[00:00:38] so today we are going to be beginning the first of our nine days in a row listening

[00:00:44] to and then talking about the 18 Survivor Contestants two days coming up

[00:00:50] today we'll be talking about a woman that is named is it do I pronounce this

[00:01:00] Aysha? Asia like a continent. Aysha Welch and Genevieve will be talking about

[00:01:07] here today on this episode of the podcast two interesting women looking

[00:01:12] forward to talking about both of them of course to hear all of our pre-season

[00:01:18] interviews that Mike recorded with the players you can hear that in our

[00:01:23] Survivor podcast feed and the Rob's podcast main feed you could find them

[00:01:28] both at Robbisthewebsite.com subscribe and then also watch them on our YouTube

[00:01:32] channel at Rob has a website.com youtube Mike this time the players were

[00:01:38] in Fiji but you were talking to them remotely. Yes so of course over the

[00:01:43] course of the new era I've had the pleasure of being able to for the

[00:01:46] first four seasons sending questions to be asked to them and then you and I kind

[00:01:50] of reviewed them starting with 45 I've been able to talk to them face to face

[00:01:54] though I put that in quotations because for 47 it's very much like 45 where

[00:01:59] I was not at the time able to make it out to Fiji but I did have the

[00:02:03] pleasure of getting to talk with these people over this thing called the

[00:02:07] internet Robb I'm not sure if you've heard about it so I got the chance

[00:02:11] to interview these contestants in the pre-season they have been waiting on

[00:02:15] pins and needles at the point that I've been speaking with them I will say

[00:02:19] they have a pretty dang pristine background which really does show that

[00:02:22] they're beautiful yes okay so what we're gonna do is that we're gonna set up

[00:02:27] who you're gonna hear from gonna hear from Asia first and then Genevieve and

[00:02:32] then Mike and I are gonna come back after you watch the interviews I will

[00:02:36] have the time codes in the YouTube description if you I guess you if

[00:02:41] you're listening to this for the future reference you can just skip ahead to

[00:02:46] where the interviews are to see the interviews from the contestants and

[00:02:50] then we will jump back into talking about how any interesting reactions we

[00:02:56] had and how we think they might do just part of our pre-season coverage here

[00:03:01] on our HAP yeah so a few things before we get into it because again as we'll

[00:03:07] discover with this cast there are many different points that people can

[00:03:10] enter the highway that is survivor right a bunch of different on-ramps and

[00:03:14] hopefully no off-ramps as it were so there might be some people that are coming in

[00:03:18] for the first time maybe I don't know followers of one particular notable

[00:03:23] face this season probably wondering what the heck this is so just to reset

[00:03:27] things a little bit I think a lot of the Asia fans are already

[00:03:30] subscribed but okay yeah yeah I mean exactly but you never know you

[00:03:33] never know her reach out there but I got the chance to talk with these

[00:03:37] contestants while they were out in Fiji waiting for the game to begin all these

[00:03:42] interviews were done before season 47 proper started what's

[00:03:46] interesting is for those that don't know you are not allowed to talk or engage

[00:03:51] with any of the other players while you were there in Fiji until the game

[00:03:56] starts they really want to make that first interaction happen when the

[00:03:59] cameras are rolling on day one so these people have just kind of been

[00:04:02] sitting with their own thoughts about themselves about the other players

[00:04:06] and unfortunately for them they have to talk to my goofy ass about it it's one

[00:04:10] of those first people that they do get to speak with I have to of course

[00:04:13] give some some blanket thank yous to CBS as always for giving me the

[00:04:18] opportunity to do this it is one of my favorite things I get to do because

[00:04:21] it's a great way to get to know these people and their own expectations of

[00:04:24] how they'll do in the game then of course we'll see how they measure up

[00:04:28] just a couple of technical things off the top these interviews were limited

[00:04:33] to around 15 minutes a piece so we got to some questions and some

[00:04:37] interviews and not some questions in other ones just to sort of fit that

[00:04:40] some sort of exceed it some sort of sort of follow the behind it but they all

[00:04:43] kind of range in the 15 minutes range from a timing perspective

[00:04:48] this took place a little bit out of time Rob so these interviews were done

[00:04:53] after the final eight episode of Survivor 46 air so if you're listening

[00:04:58] to these interviews and you're like why are they still talking about

[00:05:01] Survivor 46 don't they know that this happened and this happened

[00:05:04] probably not this happened in the beginning of May they just witnessed

[00:05:09] Liz's Applebee's meltdown and said yep that's what I'm bottling to go into

[00:05:13] Survivor with okay so that's where we are in terms of

[00:05:18] history anything else to set up Mike so obviously with this being over the

[00:05:22] internet we are of course you know servants of the gods of

[00:05:26] connectivity so there might be some point especially when you're watching

[00:05:29] the video version of this where the video or audio might be a little bit

[00:05:33] choppy a special shout out to the team behind the curtain here on RHAP for

[00:05:37] trying to smooth things out to the best of our ability to package things

[00:05:40] for your listening and viewing pleasure but just know that at the end of the

[00:05:44] day you know where we're trying to put forward the best product we can

[00:05:47] given the limitations that might have existed from telecasting this stuff

[00:05:51] you know nearly 12 hours away from each other but regardless

[00:05:53] there's some really fun interviews this is a really fun cast and I'm

[00:05:57] excited to get into it okay very fun to get into all this Mike are we ready to

[00:06:01] talk a little bit about that Asia yeah so it turns out we're starting with

[00:06:06] with a big one here we are talking about Asia Welch of

[00:06:10] course Asia is 32 years old she is from

[00:06:13] Houston Texas she is a senior consultant for an HR IT company she'll

[00:06:19] explain that in our interview but I think she's perhaps more well known

[00:06:24] Rob for being a face and name associated with this very podcast

[00:06:30] yeah so Asia became a part of the RHAP podcasting team back in 2020 we put out

[00:06:39] a big search to add podcasting talent to our ranks here at RHAP

[00:06:45] Asia was a standout then she hit the ground running becoming a

[00:06:51] big brother podcaster very early on she came to me and said hey we need to start

[00:06:58] covering married at first sight on RHAP wasn't a show that I had was super

[00:07:04] familiar with I remember the first podcast I did with her about it

[00:07:08] we went on to start a what was originally a married at first sight

[00:07:13] up that's now the love at first sight feed and Asia and Jason Reed have built a

[00:07:21] nice little community of their own around the fans of that show Asia also

[00:07:27] podcast about love is blind here on RHAP with Mary Kwiatkowski back in survivor

[00:07:34] 41 we also instituted a little thing called the survivor

[00:07:39] podcaster draft and she was one of six people who was drafting players before the season

[00:07:45] we will have the draft return for survivor 47 where very oddly Asia will be drafted

[00:07:53] and not drafting for survivor 47 and so be on the lookout for that I think there was

[00:08:01] going to come up a little bit in the interview but Mike I just want to assuage any concerns

[00:08:08] that people might have about any impropriety in the podcasting space about that there could be

[00:08:19] any sort of favoritism around Asia and I look forward to the challenge of being able to

[00:08:29] have the opportunity to talk about someone that I consider to be a friend and a colleague but also

[00:08:36] be able to talk about their game squarely as if they were any other contestant on the show I think

[00:08:45] it is a challenge that I am up for I have known many people who have come through the survivor

[00:08:52] experience and have I feel like been able to fairly and plainly be able to describe

[00:09:01] everybody's game tonight I feel like that I am uniquely qualified to be able to do this all season

[00:09:07] long I was going to say yeah someone who has been through the process there not even once but twice

[00:09:13] and getting to digest from very different perspectives how your game is perceived yes

[00:09:17] it's really interesting because to your point we certainly have had people who are friendly

[00:09:22] with the podcast including a couple of other people from this season come through and you

[00:09:27] certainly have have sort of negotiated those relationships as well but this is really a rarity

[00:09:31] this is far and away the closest we have had someone within the RHAP network on one of these shows

[00:09:39] and I think it is going to be an interesting test of as we've been talking about a lot

[00:09:43] especially with social media discourse a truly separating conversation from the character we

[00:09:49] see on television versus the person they actually are when we're not watching them for

[00:09:54] you know 90 minutes a week all right Mike without any further ado are we ready to hear from Asia

[00:10:00] yes it is still truly surreal even watching this interview back for the umpteen time and

[00:10:06] you can see my surreality in the moment almost immediately as well okay all right Mike I'll

[00:10:11] let you take it away first question I have for you is what the hell what are you doing there

[00:10:18] oh my god

[00:10:21] you know it's just like what I just you know out of it yeah you know one thing led to another

[00:10:27] you know decided to apply and here I am that's putting it mildly I mean we're going to go

[00:10:34] into all that for those who are not in the know let's get the basic introduction out of you

[00:10:39] let's get your your name your age where you're from occupation okay so I'm Asia Welch and

[00:10:45] that's Asia like the continent because constantly when people will see the spelling of my name I get

[00:10:50] every variation but Asia well be prepared I'm assuming that's going to continue in this game

[00:10:56] I know I am 32 years old I live in Houston Texas and I am a senior consultant at like an HR

[00:11:04] IT company okay interesting are you more on the HR side or more on the IT side because

[00:11:10] I know more on the IT side like I constantly get people are like oh so you hire and fire people

[00:11:15] but like no no no no when people need to hire and fire people but they can't figure out how to do

[00:11:22] it do it in the system that's when they come to us and like hey I tried to hire somebody but

[00:11:26] it's not working properly so I'm like oh let me go look at the configuration and let me figure it

[00:11:30] out so it's a lot of problem solving so I'm constantly problem solving every single day which is why

[00:11:35] I've been in this career for 11 years which is what blows my mind but uh yeah I love it because

[00:11:42] you know it pays the bills well listen we're talking about a career change that could also

[00:11:47] pay a very large bill at the end of the day let's talk about I mean listen again people who follow

[00:11:53] you know that you are a fan of survivor but let's go in depth about you know your history

[00:11:57] and also what brought you from fan and content creator podcaster to actually applying and

[00:12:04] being on the show yeah so well you Mike I'm still trying to get over looking at you right now I'm just

[00:12:12] still blowing my mind right but yes okay so I've been watching survivors since I was 12 years old

[00:12:20] and it was something like my mom watched since day one and then at 12 I was like watching and she

[00:12:26] put me on and so then me my brother her and my dad we would always watch um and it just became

[00:12:34] one of those things that's a family event like you know first Thursdays and you know then it turned

[00:12:37] into Wednesdays they were you were watching Survivor every week couldn't wait and so for me growing up

[00:12:43] it was like Survivor looks so hard like who wants to wants to go outside and like literally I've

[00:12:50] never been camping I've never done anything to that has made me live outside I mean I didn't

[00:12:56] even grow up going to like summer camps or anything like that I was inside okay so

[00:13:02] and so for me Survivor always seemed so so so so hard but now that I'm 32 years old I'm at this

[00:13:08] point in my life where like I have everything in a really good place I have two dogs that I love in

[00:13:14] a door um I have a beautiful home that I bought for us like I'm in a great place in my career I'm

[00:13:20] at that point where I'm like there was so long I was like okay what's the next level what's the

[00:13:24] next level and I'm finally at a point where I'm like I'm coasting I'm in a really great

[00:13:29] place right you know and then I get to have my creative outlet with pasta

[00:13:34] podcasting that's really fun and so then I was just like you know what and I'm in a place where I feel

[00:13:38] like I really know myself more than I ever have and I said you know what let me apply

[00:13:44] but see what happens you know what's the worst can happen I don't hear back right

[00:13:47] but then I kept hearing back and I kept hearing back and I kept hearing back and I was like

[00:13:52] how is this happening I'm so confused how this is happening and so I was just like on cloud nine

[00:13:58] throughout the entire casting process and now I'm actually in Fiji and it still hasn't hit

[00:14:02] I'm still in cloud nine I wake up every morning like okay pinching myself because I'm in Fiji

[00:14:08] in house I'm like when is it gonna hit me I'm probably when my toes are in the sand

[00:14:12] and I'm seeing Jeff that I'll just be like I'm playing the game of survivor

[00:14:16] but right now it still feels like I'm dreaming yeah I mean you'll be you might be on cloud

[00:14:20] nine because that's also the name of the pizza restaurant that is on a floating barge

[00:14:23] out in the sea so you might be visiting that later on but hopefully hopefully not too soon

[00:14:28] so looking back on survivor history give me one winner and one non-winner who you identify with the most

[00:14:35] well that is such an easy question okay so one winner is Natalie Anderson I have been like

[00:14:42] I loved her game I love how like she was so just like competent herself so physically strong

[00:14:50] just like she is who you would want to be as a woman to go out there and kill I mean probably

[00:14:56] some men too would want to be hard to just go out there and kill it right and she's just so

[00:15:00] unapologetically herself and confident and so like I've been in the gym consistently for like six

[00:15:06] months preparing for like if I need to be the strong woman on my tribe I can do it right

[00:15:12] so I did a lot of weightlifting a lot of strength conditioning leading into this

[00:15:16] so I feel like I can relate to Natalie in that way and then and then even like her you know

[00:15:22] having that tight bond with Jeremy as like a brother I'm looking for a brother out here

[00:15:27] like me and my little brother we are so close he is six year younger than me but he is one of my

[00:15:32] best friends like people look at us and they're like wait who's older I'm like well I don't know

[00:15:37] if that's a compliment or what because he's six-year younger um but like I'm looking for like

[00:15:42] somebody who can fill in the role as my brother somebody that I can like really you know rely on

[00:15:48] and so when I think of that I think of like Natalie but then a non-winner non-winner I relate to

[00:15:53] was definitely Suri loves Suri and I feel like my relationships in the game are going to be what

[00:16:00] drives me to the end um I love people I love learning about people I have friends of all

[00:16:07] different types I'm just so uh like I'm so interested in like how people became who they are

[00:16:13] why do they do what they do why do they behave the way that they had behave like what has happened

[00:16:18] in their life to get them to where they are today and so people fascinate me like I'm the

[00:16:22] type of person like I took a flight some months ago where the girl next to me I was like we

[00:16:27] look the same age I talked to her for the entire three-hour flight like I was just so curious

[00:16:33] about her life and like we ended up following each other Instagram and I was like I literally

[00:16:37] have at least six or seven contacts in my phone it's like so and so so and so met on flight

[00:16:44] always like if I'm on a flight and you don't have headphones in your ear I'm in the clear

[00:16:49] like we didn't have a conversation so especially I'm just so intrigued so I'm just like I'm here

[00:16:56] you know seeing everybody and I'm so interested in like their stories like I'm like we all you

[00:17:02] know obviously we can't talk right now but I'm like you're here for a reason I know I'm here for

[00:17:06] a reason you're all here for reasons like what what is it that you know Survivor saw and you said

[00:17:13] you should play this game like that's what I want to know about everyone and of course

[00:17:16] some people we might not find out because it was like that's a secret they want to carry

[00:17:20] for it but I still want to get to know like well where are you from like there's this one guy

[00:17:24] that has on like he wore a san Antonio Spurs hat one day today he's wearing Oklahoma sweatshirts

[00:17:29] I'm like where are you from like I don't know are you from Texas or you from Oklahoma like I don't

[00:17:34] understand watch he be from like New York or something and so I'm so curious about learning

[00:17:40] about people and then also I wanted I wanted to be genuine like I want I feel like that's

[00:17:46] something that Ciri was able to do masterfully it was connected people on a genuine level

[00:17:50] because I want them to feel like it's not my strategy because I am smart what I do for a living

[00:17:56] it requires a certain level of intelligence and I am a physical like physical I believe that I

[00:18:02] would be a physical threat because I play basketball my entire life I love I can lift

[00:18:10] pretty heavy and so I have endurance and so I feel like that part of myself I want to be able

[00:18:16] to utilize especially to help my tribe but I don't want them to think that my social game

[00:18:23] is my strategy because then I feel like it would help people genuinely like me maybe even love me

[00:18:28] like I want people to fall in love in the shortest amount of time ever listen you cover

[00:18:33] Meredith first site you're all about you know love right there in the moment

[00:18:37] yeah like fall in love with me in 10 days and then you don't want to vote me out

[00:18:42] right there we go that's that's the ideal plan now look we got to talk about you know the 500 pound

[00:18:47] microphone in the room you are someone who knows these shows deeply broadcast your thoughts about

[00:18:53] them deeply and on the one hand that should give you an advantage with knowledge about the show

[00:18:57] but we know the path of survivor is laid by plenty of super fans who come in thinking they

[00:19:02] know everything and very much yeah so like how much are you guiding your own expectations

[00:19:07] of the skill set and knowledge you're bringing versus what might actually happen

[00:19:11] you know that's why I'm relying so heavily on my personal relationships because I could feel like

[00:19:16] I I could know so much about this show like I know every season in order I know every winner

[00:19:22] and you'll pass that journey challenge then right exactly I was like if last season they did

[00:19:27] seasons maybe they're gonna do winners this season I'm banking on that

[00:19:32] and then making banking on me going on that journey um but I feel like you can

[00:19:37] know so much about this game and still fall flat on your face we've seen it time and time again

[00:19:43] so that's why even coming into this it wasn't even something that I leaned into heavily like I didn't

[00:19:49] lean into the like they know I'm a super fan but that wasn't my why my why is because of who

[00:19:54] I am as a person and the personal relationships that I can form the you know the strength

[00:20:00] that I can bring the awareness of myself to be able to navigate myself with different kinds of

[00:20:06] people because I've worked with so many different kinds of people of all you know

[00:20:11] political affiliations of all religions of all you know everything and so I feel like

[00:20:16] because I'm leaning into who I am as a person that's gonna help me whereas like my knowledge of the

[00:20:22] game is secondary and can hopefully hopefully come into play obviously not to repeat mistakes

[00:20:27] like season 46 and not playing idols when you need to be playing idol but being able to just have

[00:20:34] the awareness like wait people are moving differently right okay maybe if I do have an idol I should

[00:20:40] play it you know never never feel too safe and so I think maybe my knowledge of the history is like

[00:20:46] not to repeat you know past mistakes but I think my strength in the game will be who I am as a

[00:20:52] person and what I'm able to bring to like relationships so you mentioned you know a bit

[00:20:57] about finding a brother or sibling in the game you mentioned uh he a very confusing

[00:21:02] geography who are some people right now in the silent spirit you're in that you are either

[00:21:07] vibing with or not vibing with in terms of first impressions cool okay I will say so when I say

[00:21:15] so I so I do want to find a brother and that's because the men are so hard to read this season

[00:21:22] I don't know what it is I don't know what it is but we're in the when we are all together

[00:21:26] they're just like stone faced like I'm like give me a smile show me you're happy to be here the women

[00:21:34] smiling just grins all like I swear we're hurting our cheeks smiling at each other right and so

[00:21:41] I'm like okay this is positive vibes certain people like within the guys I'm just like

[00:21:47] I know it's gonna be a challenge so that's what makes me want to engage in playing hard to get

[00:21:52] yeah even more I'm like you I see you don't want it so that's why I'm gonna want it for you I want

[00:21:58] you to be like wow this girl what I didn't think I did not think we were going to have a connection

[00:22:02] but I don't I don't know that's just my that has been my strength in life is just like no matter

[00:22:07] the differences we're gonna find a connection in some way some type some shape or form and the

[00:22:12] other thing that I was concerned about obviously my relation to RHAP who would recognize me right

[00:22:19] so obviously I know that some people have recognized me one person in particular I do

[00:22:26] know has recognized me just to look on his face and then obviously there's another person well I

[00:22:32] guess not obviously but there's another person KP I feel like he reckoned because he like looks at

[00:22:38] me like when we first saw each other he looked at me in a way that felt like do I know you

[00:22:44] but I know I don't know him from somewhere right and so yeah that's one thing that's going to be

[00:22:49] interesting to see if that plays a part in just like our love for RHAP are we gonna have a connection

[00:22:54] are you gonna think just because I do the draft that I miss threat which shouldn't be the case

[00:23:00] so I just wanted I want to be able to form connections so they know like look it's a hobby

[00:23:06] that's not anything that's threatening please this is this that's that's like this is all of our

[00:23:12] first time playing survivor we have no idea what we're about to face we have no idea what Jeff

[00:23:17] and survivor is going to throw at us and so it's just like we have to navigate that we have to be

[00:23:23] ready for the unknown be adaptable and we're all doing that no one is on any kind of like different

[00:23:29] playing field just because they talk too much about something what is your most controversial

[00:23:35] survivor opinion give me your survivor hot take I know you got one oh okay so I feel like

[00:23:44] people are hard on the wacky phrases from season 41 and 42 bring them back okay okay

[00:23:52] I feel like there's so much you could do with it like mat chats aren't thing right

[00:23:56] so do something that like maybe Jeff isn't aware of like make Jeff laugh make make Jeff belly

[00:24:02] laugh you know and if you have the ability that next time you go cast a vote you have an extra

[00:24:07] vote or you have an idol or something or call someone out on a different tribe yeah that's risky

[00:24:12] right but it's it's gonna be a big payoff if you can get an idol so you're basically asking for

[00:24:18] like team america to come in survivor form of like do these secret tasks right I want I want

[00:24:24] these things like I need people to be able to say a thing right at the at the mat chats

[00:24:30] and then get a word from it that's why I really like the wacky phrases like obviously

[00:24:34] the what they had the bunny rabbit that that's too obvious do something that someone you know

[00:24:40] several you know say something that people will remember like imagine if Jalinsky was able

[00:24:46] to get something from that that was that at a lasting impact like we're on a survivor 40 several

[00:24:51] so like imagine I just I think there's so much you could do with it and they should just revisit

[00:24:56] that last question you know what I'm gonna ask if you could pick a celebrity or a fictional

[00:25:01] character to come out for a loved one's visit who you bring in I thought a lot about this

[00:25:06] and it is definitely it definitely has to do with what I feel like I'm gonna need

[00:25:12] some I'm a person that believes a day without laughter is a day wasted I have like I've hung

[00:25:18] on to that quote from wherever I saw it for a year because I just like I love laughing and I love

[00:25:24] make like when when I can find something that makes someone else laugh oh I'm sticking to it

[00:25:29] like that's my thing right and so I think mine I have two people that just always make me laugh

[00:25:37] Issa Ray the creator of insecure and Quinta Brunson the creator of Abbey Elementary I feel like they

[00:25:46] had just such a gift I feel like if they were to come out they would just make me laugh and it

[00:25:52] would just be all the healing I need for this hard 26 day game so yeah easy one of them to

[00:26:00] not to mention it gives them inspiration to create their own you know survivor like comedy series

[00:26:05] look out Mike White there's another one coming down the barrel exactly yeah I feel like that would

[00:26:11] be an amazing opportunity for them so this is what I'm giving them that opportunity well

[00:26:16] I want to give you an opportunity because look I may be speaking out of turn but I feel like

[00:26:21] as a drafter who is on survivor I think you deserve the right to pick the person to draft you because

[00:26:28] you know all these people are going to be fighting for you I think you get to declare right here

[00:26:34] right now who is picking Asia Welch as the winner of server 547 I'm not about this because I'm like

[00:26:41] okay scenario whoever goes first doesn't pick me should my feelings be hurt like should I be

[00:26:50] offended you know but then you know I I'm sure there are amazing people here there are probably

[00:26:55] other people that they can see you know some potential with right but if I had to pick someone

[00:27:01] I'm not picking Shannon I can't pick Shannon I can't oh man oh if I had to pick someone

[00:27:12] I would say either it's a close call either Leon or Chappelle one of those two yeah

[00:27:19] I like this let's leave it to them to fight it out yeah

[00:27:24] this is you showing your skills already right you're like I'm picking a select few but like

[00:27:27] you decide amongst yourselves I'm not picking right like if Puyo picks me do you Puyo right

[00:27:34] but you know if I had to pick you know the love runs deep but yeah I'm just so excited to be here

[00:27:42] I was from the moment I got the official call I couldn't wait to talk to you so I just I was

[00:27:50] just so excited for this moment right here I've been waiting patiently patiently to see your face

[00:27:55] so I'm just really excited and I'm just gonna go out there and give it my all

[00:28:01] and to say I'm excited for you as an understatement you know how much I adore you and what you know we've

[00:28:06] been able to build over the past few years and getting to just see right now not only is it surreal

[00:28:11] but hearing you talk even more about you know what you plan on bringing and your life and how

[00:28:15] it's led up to this point it just fills me with so much joy and I am still in a little

[00:28:22] disbelief that we get to see you as a survivor player but it has just made me so eager with

[00:28:27] anticipation to see what is going to happen and I am so excited when we get the chance to next talk

[00:28:33] about this when it will be in December when you are crowned the winner of survival 47 yes thank you

[00:28:38] so much Mike my blue oh thank you Asia I will let you get back to you know your silent retreat

[00:28:44] as the anticipation builds up but I will see you on the other side my friends I'm so excited for

[00:28:50] all right everybody there you have it Asia Welch and oh my god she did so good

[00:28:57] she's amazing yeah rock I can't believe this is happening can I just like incredible can I briefly

[00:29:04] describe the timeline yes so because I popped up now oh I mean how can you not be here's the

[00:29:12] thing is that some people have asked me especially when Asia's face showed up on the teaser for 47

[00:29:18] like what was your reaction like when you saw her sit down in front of you in front of that picture

[00:29:23] ass background and let me just again talk a little bit about how the sausage gets made so for those of

[00:29:28] us that are doing preseason press we all know that the background was picturesque when they asked you

[00:29:32] this question I don't know I think they just had to assume they see all listen when you film

[00:29:37] in Fiji for nearly a decade Rob you assume that things are pretty dang picturesque sir how did

[00:29:42] you get such a picturesque background and what was your reaction yeah it's part of my FAQs honestly

[00:29:48] top of the low but another FAQ again is like how did you react when you found out that Asia was on

[00:29:53] the cast so those of us that do preseason press we are given a list of cast members ahead of time

[00:29:57] just so we are at least somewhat prepared for who is going to come sit down and talk survivor

[00:30:03] with us and so my wife can Angela can tell you this I was just sitting at home we were playing

[00:30:07] with our son and I got an email I was like oh look the cast members for survivor 47 let me look

[00:30:11] through it was listening alphabetical order by first name I thought like oh andy ruina

[00:30:15] will certainly get to him oh that's a film in your face I'm glad to see that he is on the cast

[00:30:19] oh Anna Kadar she seems interesting and when I tell you Rob I threw my phone on the bed and

[00:30:29] stood up as if it had transformed into some sort of large bug and like almost recoiled out of joy

[00:30:36] it's an odd phrase but it just sort of blew my mind because I personally had no idea that she

[00:30:45] had had any inclination of ever wanting to come on to survivor let alone going through all the

[00:30:51] entire process to actually make her way out there into Fiji yeah your reaction was like it

[00:30:56] was palpable like you're the amount of joy that you had talking to her and you know you were

[00:31:03] very sweet at the end of the video and you know it is super exciting I think it really I've heard

[00:31:10] from so many people in the rjp community about how excited they are for Asia and I think it just

[00:31:16] speaks to the type of person she is and I think also the ability that I think she's going to be

[00:31:22] able to take with her into the game she loves people she made that very clear I think that

[00:31:28] happens to be the one common denominator among all the great survivor players while there are many

[00:31:35] different survivor play styles we've seen so many different people succeed at this game over the

[00:31:40] years the one thing that they all have in common is that they have a love for getting to know people

[00:31:46] and Asia like spoke about that so wonderfully in her like what you know if she sees anybody

[00:31:54] raw dogging it on a plane like that's what it's called Mike you just sit there and

[00:32:02] are staring ahead on the plane not listening to anything and if Asia sees you she's going to

[00:32:06] strike up a conversation and so I would be intrigued to maybe they should do like those big

[00:32:11] remember they used to do on big brother evictions like let's talk with the people from

[00:32:14] their their personal lives back up I would love to talk with the person that was on the other

[00:32:17] end of that conversation that Asia had a few months back just to see like what is Asian in her

[00:32:22] phone you know yeah because I think to your point that is something that we all have in common as

[00:32:28] podcasters and look I'm assuming that people would you know think that we'd say this but I do think

[00:32:35] Asia from a skill set perspective is set up to do very well in the game and I think it's because

[00:32:41] and we'll certainly get into this with the cast Rob this is an interesting cast that is full of

[00:32:45] a lot of like surprisingly broadcasted personalities she does not necessarily feel you know big

[00:32:51] an OTT in a way that some podcasters might help myself included Asia has always been someone to

[00:32:57] me that has come across as very down-to-earth very chill and very personable and so I don't think

[00:33:03] she necessarily would be that person that even though she does have experience you know being

[00:33:08] that person to speak as an expert about a number of things in reality TV as she talked about in

[00:33:13] my interview she's not necessarily looking to be that person that like will always have something

[00:33:17] to say at all times yeah I think she's really going to lean on that I think that that's really the

[00:33:22] right way to go I think that she seems to have struck a right balance between knowledge of the show

[00:33:30] but also not necessarily like counting on that banking on that superfan background to be able

[00:33:37] to carry her I think that she has all of the you know skill sets that you would want

[00:33:43] in a survivor player for all the different facets of the game I think she's smart she's strong

[00:33:50] she's super social I think that she could be very deadly in this game I think that you know she is

[00:33:57] somebody who seems accomplished in their career so I think that she has some strong instincts

[00:34:04] in terms of like how to move herself forward the one thing that is a concern for me is that

[00:34:11] you know how many people have you know recognized her she clocked a couple of people that seem to

[00:34:18] know her how much of a threat is that to other players that you know she is you know associated

[00:34:27] with a network that podcasts about survivor yeah I mean it's an interesting point to bring up

[00:34:34] I mean we will certainly get into this with the rest of the cast and of course the various

[00:34:38] levels of fandom that are brought in I will say that there are a couple of cast members that do

[00:34:44] recognize her but without spoiling their interviews too much it's a very positive spin at the moment

[00:34:49] it's very much this is a familiar face from a very great community that I associate myself with

[00:34:56] perfect this is somebody that I want to work with and I don't know I personally feel like

[00:35:01] especially when you get towards like the pointy end of the game it's knowledge about the show

[00:35:05] something that people really feel like should be wielded like a cudgel of wagon to get rid of someone

[00:35:09] this is where it goes sideways okay so let's say okay so okay so Asia is on the the podcast

[00:35:16] network and even though she's not primarily a survivor podcaster she ends up okay another person

[00:35:23] recognizes okay Asia a person who listens to survivor podcasts okay great we're doing great

[00:35:29] so far now that information telephone game goes to another person you know somebody who may not be

[00:35:36] a survivor podcast listener is like what she's she does podcasts about survive all right that

[00:35:42] we can't be having that she's so the person that doesn't even recognize her or has ever listened

[00:35:48] to her on the podcast I think is the where's the most danger is coming from the person who

[00:35:53] just like uh like okay oh super fan knows too much now now she's a threat because of that yeah I mean

[00:36:01] that's an interesting perspective I mean the way that she sort of presented the argument to me

[00:36:06] was not unlike the way Bruce talked to me and survivor 45 when I asked him like oh what advantage

[00:36:11] will you have over the other contestants he says I'm trying to put forward the argument of

[00:36:14] once those 11 hours pass on day one we're all in the same boat and Asia is trying to do the

[00:36:19] same thing as well like I've talked about the show but we're all experiencing it for the first

[00:36:23] time that being said we saw this as recently as Q targeting someone for their favorite player

[00:36:29] you could come up with any reason a to z to go after somebody I personally think the dangers that

[00:36:35] Asia could face is less about what she's affiliated with off camera and just more so for who she

[00:36:40] is on camera I'm really intrigued Rob about how are these players going to approach this

[00:36:46] season having seen all of 45 and most of 46 and in particular watching someone like D in 45 of

[00:36:53] course they don't know that Kenzie had won 46 which is this like mermaid dragon right the super

[00:36:58] social congenial player but we saw someone like D as well who was able to maintain incredible

[00:37:03] relationships do people have the the D-dar the Ray D if you will where they're going to be

[00:37:09] looking at someone like Asia who is very good socially has strategic acumen apparently very

[00:37:15] very good in challenges as well obviously has been physical her entire life and are their ears

[00:37:19] going to be more perked up to eyeballing someone like that than they did back in survivor 45

[00:37:25] yeah I think we've talked about this all through the new era where players are so keenly aware

[00:37:30] of who the big threats are and I feel like the players that have been able to succeed and

[00:37:36] win the games are the players that for whatever reason are able to either camouflage or somehow

[00:37:41] minimize different aspects of their threat level where people are able to sort of like

[00:37:47] feel like okay I'm not as worried about them D being the exception except in that that she had

[00:37:55] a very strong alliance which was able to I think sort of like deflect some of the

[00:37:59] heat that she might have gotten so Asia is going to have her work cut out for her

[00:38:04] for sure and I think that the players who play on survivor now in this era are very astute and

[00:38:12] very quick to recognize who are the players who can win and how do I eliminate them and you know

[00:38:18] the good news and the bad news is that Asia is a player who can definitely win yeah I think the

[00:38:23] good news for Asia is that barring any unforeseen circumstances I think she'll do okay in the

[00:38:28] pre-merge you know I do think from a physical standpoint she is the strongest woman on her

[00:38:35] tribe and listen depending on how the weight challenges shake out and depending how weight

[00:38:39] based there are she might be perceived as a big asset there which should protect her

[00:38:44] it's just the thing we always talk about in the new era Rob which is when those perceptions

[00:38:49] get turned around at final 10 9 8 7 6 how do you overcome that hill from when you were

[00:38:57] once in a valley beforehand from being a target so I think that Asia certainly has the capabilities

[00:39:02] to do so but I think she should also expect for that to come around as much as she talks about

[00:39:07] trying to make people fall in love with her instantaneously that love eventually turns

[00:39:13] into a love for a million dollars over weighing it yeah I'm just uh so proud of her that she

[00:39:18] is here that uh she's getting a chance to go after this uh survivor adventure I meant what

[00:39:25] I said about trying to be fair about it but uh it will be a challenge uh to do so and it's just

[00:39:32] like a palpable excitement and energy as well uh Rob now listen not to talk too much about the draft

[00:39:38] but uh you do have I believe the choice right as to picking the order are you gonna follow

[00:39:43] Asia's rules here uh I am not beholden to Asia's wishes I will do as I see fit as is my

[00:39:51] right as the winner of the survivor 46 draft okay there we go uh I at least gave her statement on

[00:39:58] it so make of it dolly note it dolly note it okay and I'm sure I'm sure the drafters themselves

[00:40:02] will have opinions after Asia express the people that she did and did not want to draft her okay

[00:40:07] all right we're gonna take a quick break and when we come back let's hear about

[00:40:15] Genevieve all right let's talk about the second of our two contestants that we're going to uh

[00:40:20] hear from today Mike tell us a little bit about Genevieve Genevieve Musheluck and if you think

[00:40:27] wow that's a real Canadian-esque last name indeed she is she is our sort of requisite

[00:40:33] Canadian representative on a season 47 Genevieve also 32 years old from West St. Paul Manitoba

[00:40:41] I believe first person from Manitoba to be on survivor so we're slowly crossing off the provinces

[00:40:47] as we make our way throughout the new era and she is a corporate lawyer and she also then follows up

[00:40:53] in her bio quote aka super negotiator and deal maker okay sounds good send her to Dondie

[00:41:00] we'll see it could be an immediate like the cut of her jib yeah absolutely so we shall see maybe

[00:41:07] we should just start slowly funneling all survivor contestants over to Dondie it should just be like

[00:41:12] the next stop after Fiji okay uh look don't tempt me with a good time all right let's hear from Genevieve

[00:41:19] and then we'll come back and talk about it on the other side of hearing from Genevieve

[00:41:23] are you doing right now honestly tired and overwhelmed and like just ready to go but I

[00:41:32] feel like I'm not the only one so that's comforting that's comforting well listen we'll start you off nice

[00:41:37] and easy to hopefully ease in on the exhaustion giving your name age and what you do okay Genevieve

[00:41:45] Moshlak 32 years old and I am a lawyer a lawyer okay what specific uh field of law are you in

[00:41:53] great question I am a corporate lawyer so like deals negotiations contracts like I'm

[00:41:58] in my most comfortable happy place buried behind paperwork I mean I'm hearing deals and negotiations

[00:42:05] I'm thinking survivor were you thinking the same way what has led you to these beaches

[00:42:10] yeah you know that's why I wanted to become a lawyer because I thought one day I'll get to be on

[00:42:14] season 47 and uh that means to be fair you watch you watch season 45 where there were three of

[00:42:20] them in the cast so like it's not too bad of a line to go down I know but three in the top

[00:42:26] six so now like I have no choice I have to make up a fake profession right and I don't know anything

[00:42:31] else that well so and I'm a terrible liar so this it's going to be great it's a recipe for success

[00:42:37] right oh my god do you have anything on top of mind at the moment or is you just going to wing

[00:42:42] it when you get there no I've got a few things the leading idea is uh something like trademark

[00:42:50] brand related because that's a type of law I used to do and so I can make it um I get there's something

[00:42:55] there I gotta know the literate um but I've got nothing but time to prepare and like picture my

[00:43:01] fake life and timeline and then I'll pick a title that's boring enough that like people's eyes glaze

[00:43:06] over when I talk about it and it sort of kills the conversation let's talk about what brings you

[00:43:10] to put your trademark on the game as it were what's your history with watching survivor

[00:43:14] and what made you decide that this is the game you wanted to play so I have been watching since I was

[00:43:21] a young child I definitely cannot accept the uh the title of superfan because I don't have this all

[00:43:28] like committed to memory but I've watched for a long time and like casually enjoyed the show

[00:43:35] what made me want to apply was when I started watching I was like a very overconfident young

[00:43:40] woman watched and of course was like oh I could totally do that like 11 year old 11 year old me

[00:43:45] looking at the screen being like I could I could win this I'd be so amazing at those challenges

[00:43:50] of course like I don't eat fish I don't camp um I was like not athletic at all but like

[00:43:55] this totally unincense of confidence if I could do that um and I got older but never

[00:44:00] really lost that so uh I applied the night that Canadians could first apply and so it's

[00:44:06] been a long time coming and each year I'd get a little bit closer and then rejected a little

[00:44:11] bit closer and rejected um but this year I'm out here unless like Jeff's going to be like oh

[00:44:17] sorry you're wrong Genevieve and uh take me out last minute but yes so that's why I will test

[00:44:24] the scope of your fandom here can you give me one survivor winner and one non-winner who you

[00:44:30] identify with the most okay uh yes for a winner I identify with the most let's go with Marianne

[00:44:41] new era so Marianne um because when I get out there I'm going to be like buzzing and smiling so big

[00:44:47] and not able to control my excitement right I know you wrote in your little blurb here

[00:44:52] you said that you're like a kid at heart basically that you have the energy of a seven-year-old

[00:44:57] uh yeah I've got a lot I'm a bubbly bouncy person um even when I'm sleep deprived I'm like constantly

[00:45:03] going at at a million miles a minute so I gotta try and contain that and not like rub people the

[00:45:08] wrong way with it but uh to answer your original question okay non-winner identify with the most

[00:45:13] I would say like a mix of Chrissy and then Lindsay from 42 depends on the day um I'm very

[00:45:22] mood-driven person so like yeah that's interesting I saw that as well that you know uh you talked about

[00:45:30] how you gave a couple new era players in your bio like between D and Sydney basically saying like I

[00:45:35] could see my game going either way is it as simple as like catch me in the right time in the my

[00:45:40] right place I might be two different people uh yeah I catch me before after a meal before

[00:45:46] after bed sleep well I got bad news for you when it comes to survivor

[00:45:52] I know it's gonna be great um but yeah and that's such a good point there are so many

[00:45:57] women that I could that I could draw from actually there you go I should have said

[00:46:01] D and Sydney because that answer is your last question too right but there's so

[00:46:04] there's so many good ones to choose from um but no I think I'm gonna I'm gonna control it

[00:46:09] and just vibe with everybody else that's out here um everyone seems really cool which

[00:46:15] you know I think they'll be even cooler when they vote for me to win a million dollars and we'll

[00:46:19] all be friends what do you think is one life experience that has prepared you most for this game

[00:46:25] okay I would go back to like so so picture a giant table and like a big Ukrainian family

[00:46:32] sitting around it and like not just a media family relatives cousins grandparents and when

[00:46:37] we were young growing up like that was every holiday or just like you know a Monday any

[00:46:43] excuse to get together with the whole family and so from an early age I was talking to my

[00:46:48] cousins my parents my grandparents my wacky aunt my crazy uncle and like you just learned to speak to

[00:46:54] people of all ages with all different interests and like growing up that way helped me develop a

[00:47:00] natural interest in everybody no matter how different or similar they are to myself and I

[00:47:04] think that'll that'll help me I hope what well what do you think is your biggest

[00:47:10] superpower and your biggest piece of kryptonite that you are bringing from your life into this game

[00:47:17] okay my biggest superpower would be if I send somebody else is struggling or more nervous than

[00:47:25] I am I can put aside the way I'm feeling and engage with them help them give them the care

[00:47:31] that they need which in turn helps me right if you were more nervous than I am I would be like

[00:47:36] it's okay relax and then I would be zen here but that's not the situation so I think being able to

[00:47:43] sort of assess what people might need and feel that need will really help me

[00:47:47] and that's my biggest superpower my biggest kryptonite would be

[00:47:53] like all the yucky things out here I'm really I'm the type of person like if I see

[00:47:59] a spider in my house I'm like ah mark my husband like can you come get this

[00:48:04] if he's not home I'm fully capable of grab a piece of paper towel or a shoe and kill it but

[00:48:08] like if there's someone else around me who can help I will often take them up on that which

[00:48:14] you know so yeah the yucky things are going to make me a little uncomfortable but

[00:48:17] I have it in me to deal with them I would just prefer not to well to that point I mean you

[00:48:23] talked before about how you know you were watching it back in the day and you were saying oh yeah

[00:48:28] I'd love to do this even though this is something that is very much out of my wheelhouse

[00:48:31] once you found out you were coming out here what was your preparation like to get in survivor shape

[00:48:36] as it were so lots I would say I haven't had like any caffeine for like 45 days sounds like you don't

[00:48:45] need it I know right could you imagine me after an espresso martini like it's fun but it's a lot

[00:48:52] so I did that I was working out like sort of the I was not grip strength training for two years

[00:48:59] unfortunately that one slipped by me but I was working out trying to like eat healthier things

[00:49:05] cut out like you know all the Kit Kats that I would have if I am PMSing or like had a bad day I tried

[00:49:11] to like be like well you won't have that out there Genevieve but unfortunately one of my friends

[00:49:16] told me about this amazing video game like three weeks before coming out here that I like started

[00:49:20] and then it like really derailed some of my survivor prep so I meant to like practice

[00:49:25] making fire with flints a little more and research how to build a bamboo shelter but instead I played

[00:49:31] Baldur's Gate for like 40 hours I was about to say if it was Baldur's Gate I mean listen you can craft

[00:49:36] in Baldur's Gate it just isn't as applicable yes exactly I feel like I'll have way less items

[00:49:40] out here but I will be looting everyone that I can well let's talk about perhaps some of the

[00:49:46] people that will make up your party or the aforementioned people that you will loot

[00:49:49] because he said that everyone's super nice out here but I'm sure you're picking up

[00:49:53] vibes from specific people who are some individuals that you are thinking best case scenario like I

[00:49:58] want to end up on a beach with you you could be a possible ride or die okay there is an older woman

[00:50:04] with like beautiful long blonde hair and she's clearly very fit and her and I both like

[00:50:11] drank our welcome drink excessively quickly and like made eyes at each other and I was like

[00:50:15] yes you so I would really love to work with her who else there's a man with sort of short curly hair

[00:50:25] that every time he like does a lap around the pool he gives me eyes and a smile and I give him a

[00:50:29] smile and he's also up in the middle of the night like he's bad sleeper just like me so those are

[00:50:34] two people that like stick out on my radar as people that I will get along really well with

[00:50:40] was there also part two did you want me to say who I don't want oh you you read me loud

[00:50:44] and clear absolutely Lee objection leading the witness oh you're good you're hired you want to

[00:50:50] train jobs I'll be the trademark insert the blank here but yeah give me some people that that you're

[00:50:55] uh you're susing out a little bit uh okay there's one man with long curly hair who like avoids make

[00:51:02] an eye contact with me like the plague and I'm like I'm if you can imagine I can't sit still

[00:51:09] for like eight hours as they have us sequestered so I also do laps around the pool like a

[00:51:14] hamster on a wheel and every time I'm like trying to try to catch him he's like like this

[00:51:19] like like he'll turn to stone if he looks at my eyes um so he's on my radar but I don't know maybe

[00:51:25] he'll be the nicest person ever and I'll have a terrible read when you talk to him like see does

[00:51:28] he look at you maybe it's just me yeah I don't know if I'm at the pool so it might not be a

[00:51:33] one-for-one comparison uh well let's let's talk about the pool of advantages you hope to come

[00:51:37] across in the game how do you approach all the idols and journeys and things that come with the new

[00:51:44] era okay I would love to find a beware advantage tvd if I will open it um and go either way on that I

[00:51:55] myself am a gambling woman so I'm in my nature I would love to open it but if there's someone

[00:52:00] out there who stands out to me as like I definitely don't want to work with this person but I

[00:52:05] obviously will not show them that I might lead them to the beware advantage

[00:52:09] with like let them open it be like hey I want to work with you so much not really but I want to

[00:52:15] work with you so much found this beware advantage I'm so risk adverse do you want to open it we

[00:52:20] can work together and then when they open it I'll see what they have to do and then like

[00:52:25] make it impossible for them to do it so they don't have their vote and then get rid of them that

[00:52:29] oh interesting sabotage the beware advantage task yeah right interesting talk to me about your most

[00:52:36] controversial survivor opinion what is your hottest take about the show or a person or a player um

[00:52:43] I don't know if this is a hot take I hate fire making in the final four like it's probably a

[00:52:49] regurgitated take I'm sure everybody hates fire making in the final four I feel like

[00:52:54] it just forces the players to get out better players early and then it like disadvantages

[00:53:00] great players like a Jesse because it all comes down to making a fire when like that doesn't really

[00:53:07] measure the best gameplay which is what I would look for as a drawer the best gameplay as I

[00:53:11] interpret it um so yeah I hate final four fire making also I would suck at it so like

[00:53:17] I'm just saying are you just saying that because you played Baldur's Gate three instead of

[00:53:23] Jeff here's this that he like decides oh this year 47 we're not going to do final four making fire

[00:53:29] four but oh my god final four fire making you can't even say you even just the utterance of it

[00:53:35] like we're allergic to seeing it yeah exactly it feels like the past two seasons in particular

[00:53:40] have really like almost served as a jump start from the new era even that came before it

[00:53:45] what is your biggest takeaway from Survivor 45 and 46 that you plan to incorporate into your

[00:53:50] game great question okay um I will be looking for those hidden duos or groups I think that was like

[00:54:00] a big part of what made D Julie Austin Drew successful Charlie and Maria people seem to not

[00:54:07] have sniffed out or at least as far as the last episode that I saw so um I'll be keeping my eyes

[00:54:13] open for people that seem to move in lockstep without being too socially involved because

[00:54:19] that would be a clue to me that there is something that maybe I'm not picking up or that they're doing

[00:54:22] a great job of hiding um the other takeaway would be the inverse is like I need to find myself

[00:54:30] Maria to my Charlie right oh yeah it's sort of the lawyer aspect especially yes right I'm not as

[00:54:37] like charming and quick-witted as him or as funny but we're both brunettes so don't sell your

[00:54:48] ass you if you could bring a celebrity or a fictional character out as a loved one for a loved

[00:54:55] one's visit who are you picking and why Dumbledore because I feel like he would know exactly what to

[00:55:02] say in my like seemingly impossible task of winning Survivor aka in my version of like finding a

[00:55:09] Horcrux I feel like he'd like say something that would like inspire me and like unlock that

[00:55:16] and be like oh great point yes okay yeah now and I'm on and the loved one visit takes place

[00:55:21] late enough it's like that thing that existed at the end of every Harry Potter book where like

[00:55:25] Dumbledore would say okay here's what actually happened the entire time and just lays it out for

[00:55:29] everybody exactly or maybe that'll be my experience watching this show and I'll be like oh that's

[00:55:34] what was really happening god I missed all that yeah well thank you for bringing the magic to

[00:55:40] this interview it was an absolute delight to get to do it you know I love the energy that you give

[00:55:46] out and I imagine that's only going to translate so well to the beach too so I'm really excited to

[00:55:51] seeing what you're going to bring and I hope you have the absolute adventure of a lifetime

[00:55:54] it was so great getting to chat with you thank you thank you so much you as well of course

[00:55:58] so great meeting you all the best good luck in the days leading up and uh I'll see you on

[00:56:03] the other side sounds good all right there you have it Genevieve we wish much luck to Genevieve

[00:56:11] there we go we say mush as she begins her voyage into the game as it were did Jeff say that at the

[00:56:18] start of like the obstacle course like uh mush mush I think then the discourse about like a survivor

[00:56:25] treating their contestants like animals would really hit its peak spicy Jeff okay I'm thinking

[00:56:29] more like ice cold Jeff than ever going to like dog flooding ooh that could be even better all right

[00:56:34] but let's talk a little bit about uh Genevieve and so uh I think that Genevieve is an interesting

[00:56:40] player to me like I feel like uh that she somebody who just seems like solid but doesn't

[00:56:48] necessarily pop off the screen to me but I think that that might be where you want to be

[00:56:55] Genevieve I mean she described it perfectly with the way she was talking about the two different

[00:57:01] personas she kind of occupies like before and after a meal before and after getting a good

[00:57:05] night's sleep the fact that she wrote in her bio like two players she compares herself to

[00:57:09] R.D. and Sydney we'll see where the game goes and that Genevieve was very much perhaps Allah

[00:57:16] you know a fictional lawyer themselves uh two-faced in a manner of speaking yeah there are two

[00:57:22] wolves that exist inside of her one that could do really really well at the game but one that

[00:57:28] that might not depending on the fact that she is you know uh not to say that that emotionality

[00:57:34] is necessarily a detract from the game we have certainly explored that with someone like Carolyn

[00:57:37] but certainly she has pointed out some things that might not make her you know a huge candidate

[00:57:42] off the top for winning but the thing about the new era Rob is again if those people are

[00:57:48] able to make it through the first half of the game when they might most be in trouble the second

[00:57:52] half of the game open up opens up for them yeah I thought that was interesting that she

[00:57:57] is has the ability uh she has like this empathetic side of her that she can really uh detect

[00:58:04] like any sort of lack that a person has and sort of be a provider there but also then is willing

[00:58:10] to completely sandbag somebody she doesn't like if they get the beware advantage yeah

[00:58:17] you like that idea Rob of okay I'm gonna lead someone I don't like to find a beware advantage

[00:58:22] and then whatever the task is I'm going to sabotage it so they never get their vote back yeah

[00:58:28] it seems like a little too I would not recommend that I think this is a bad plan do not do that

[00:58:35] so like I'm trying to think back to survivor 46 would it be like you help lead gem to the

[00:58:42] beware advantage and then you Russell Hand style hide the machete so she can never use it

[00:58:46] to measure anything something like that yeah I think that probably like survivor 45 where they

[00:58:51] had like sort of like a little bit more like complicated where Austin had to like read the

[00:58:56] hieroglyphics and maybe she would like deface the hieroglyphics or like if it's subaya and you

[00:59:01] don't have any fire like you put out the fire at tribal council you take a big bucket of water

[00:59:05] and dump it on so you can't burn the candle at all yeah so all right but I like the creativity

[00:59:11] oh I like that you're thinking about these things I just wouldn't do them

[00:59:15] yeah but I think that speaks to again the audaciousness that she takes it I think Genevieve has

[00:59:20] a really great energy you know she speaks about regardless of the deprivation she's in

[00:59:24] that bubbliness and I do think that try morale might help as well like it does seem like

[00:59:29] initially she'd be someone to go along to get along right like she seems like a very fun person

[00:59:35] to be around I think the fear that I have for Genevieve is is she into over her head you know

[00:59:42] she admits that when she was first watching the show like she hadn't really been camping before

[00:59:46] she's not great at lying she doesn't eat fish uh you know all these things on paper maybe add

[00:59:53] up to not doing so well in survivor but considering that this is something that she has been

[00:59:57] preparing for for a long time applying since Canadians could first be on the show I'm

[01:00:01] assuming she's put in some work with the exception of learning how to make fire I

[01:00:04] do think she's going to be solid I'm just like in terms of like looking at you know who's the winner

[01:00:10] of the season I think that Genevieve is probably not my winner pick for the season but it's also

[01:00:15] you know somebody who I think is going to not get herself voted out of the game I think that

[01:00:21] she's somebody who seems like very the issue is that as we're doing this we're going through

[01:00:27] I've only seen the interviews for these two people so I don't know necessarily if this is like a

[01:00:32] cast of total wackos and Genevieve is kind of normal or if the cast is a little bit more muted

[01:00:40] and you know Genevieve is a standout. So from that perspective Rob just a couple things about her

[01:00:49] what do you make about her watching 45 and 46 and wanting to come in looking for hitting groups

[01:00:56] hitting duos right your re before or your Charlie or Maria do you feel that's a little bit

[01:01:00] for us for the trees or do you think that's a good approach people should take well it's something

[01:01:03] that we certainly see backfire a lot on big brother of you know that's the group that these two

[01:01:09] like they're very close I think that you know you should be looking to I think to try to like

[01:01:14] make your own pairs and and and trios and groups more so than you want to be on the hunt for

[01:01:22] who you know you instead of like feeling like okay here's two people let me see if I can get in

[01:01:27] over there with them as opposed to sort of like clocking that they're two people I know there's

[01:01:32] been a lot of discourse as of late as to whether or not you should lie about your job on these types

[01:01:37] of shows do you want to come in with an additional lie you have to weave into all the other lies

[01:01:40] do you think Genevieve is of course coming in and saying that she trying to create like

[01:01:45] apparently the most boring job ever by saying she works in trademarks do you think that this

[01:01:50] is sort of a special case that because we had so much lawyers proliferating the end game

[01:01:55] of 45 which is the most recent full season they watched was this a wise decision on her part

[01:02:00] I think that it's a okay decision I guess we'll see we'll see how it goes in practice I just

[01:02:07] think the thing like a common theme was like oh like I was gonna come up with a fake job

[01:02:14] but I'm still not there yet I'm still working on it like I was gonna practice making the fire

[01:02:21] but Baldur's Gate came out like it's just like like Genevieve like you know when you go to court

[01:02:28] you gotta have all your stuff ready to go survivors no different I really hope she makes the final four

[01:02:33] just so we get like an actual Baldur's Gate name drop on the show of like damn it my worst nightmare

[01:02:38] has come true what would Dumbledore say right now yeah I mean Dumbledore would have a lot

[01:02:42] to say in the moment but that was so funny to me I like Genevieve I think Genevieve is a very

[01:02:47] fun personality she's both simultaneously dry and bubbly at the same time like a nice champagne

[01:02:52] like a ginger ale yes exactly like Canada dry if you will right so that could be a good nickname

[01:02:58] for her um but that being said yeah I do like Genevieve I hope I hope it's not something like I'm

[01:03:03] being uh too hard I'm just trying to give like my you know honest assessment of what I'm seeing

[01:03:10] from the players and look this is the fun part for us as well like if we're wrong

[01:03:16] we'll revel in it probably yeah we'll rebel it as much as the players don't on me all you want

[01:03:20] okay exactly I do want to also foreshadow something as well because of course as I get to do every

[01:03:26] season I ask these people okay as you're hanging around ponderosa who are you picking up good

[01:03:31] vibes and not so good vibes from and Genevieve actually highlighted a couple people on both

[01:03:36] ends that will be recurring motifs of this question throughout the season Rob this is

[01:03:42] a cast that is very high on Sue Smay Sue is a continual talking point in the positive

[01:03:48] older woman with white hair that is Sue and then on the other side of things the man with

[01:03:55] curly long hair Gabe uh Gabe has talked about a lot Gabe is regarded as someone who is not really

[01:04:02] given anybody anything as Genevieve talks about he's nothing for you yeah it seems to be regarded

[01:04:07] as somebody who is like almost actively whether intentionally or not kind of like stonewalling

[01:04:12] people with just very blank faced reactions and so pick up on that because again these will be

[01:04:18] people that will get mentioned a few times and we'll see if that plays into it I mean

[01:04:22] Caleb I think from 45 right is sort of the the consummate example of someone where maybe

[01:04:27] these preseasoned expectations do end up kind of rolling into the game okay we will keep an

[01:04:34] eye on that I love it when the fans like make a matrix of like who's liking who uh so far and

[01:04:41] I know in survivor 46 like it also you mentioned Caleb but like a lot of the preseason okay this

[01:04:47] person like this person like the 46 stuff really did track yeah there was a lot of like

[01:04:52] tevin soda and Liz stuff and then obviously that ends up fracturing apart at the mid-merge

[01:04:57] I mean here's the thing especially when you're when you're separated into three

[01:05:00] tribes and we don't know if they're the swap but like it's very much based on those first

[01:05:03] impressions to start like that's really where it's instructive it's not like oh good that's

[01:05:08] going to be a final two because they're no but if they're like on the same tribe or they go on a

[01:05:12] journey together like that's where it's like okay there's like a little bit of a head start yeah I mean

[01:05:18] we saw that with hunter and q right that they both clocked each other as being from Mississippi

[01:05:21] and so when they got to that journey and formed the sixth one of the most dominant alliances

[01:05:26] in survivor history it was okay all right Mike anything else you want to say about

[01:05:32] Genevieve today no I think it's a great start to this tribe and I'm excited especially as you

[01:05:38] get to know Lavo more and certainly by the end of it we can kind of piece together what we anticipate

[01:05:43] the dynamic to be I think even looking at these two I do see Asia and Genevieve getting along

[01:05:49] I think that again these are two good personalities I think they're both energetic enough

[01:05:53] easygoing yeah yeah they can certainly feed into each other but we'll sort of mix in these other

[01:05:59] four ingredients into the Lavo cake if you will and see what spills out okay all right uh Mike

[01:06:05] what's coming up tomorrow so tomorrow we had talked about two women on Lavo and now it's all

[01:06:11] about playing with the boys as we are going to talk to Kishan and Rome on Lavo okay all right

[01:06:20] looking forward to that of course we are always looking forward to reading your comments
