[00:00:20] You better hurry right back though

[00:01:23] with Wendell Holland and Jack Atkins, your baby boys. We are back and so excited to be covering Survivor News,

[00:01:27] short hiatus between the seasons,

[00:01:30] but we are back so much to get into in this two hour premiere.

[00:01:34] So much to break down.

[00:01:36] We've got new tribes.

[00:01:37] We have new challenges.

[00:01:39] Oh, it is such a glorious day.

[00:01:42] We're back from New York on Bryce and Winter 46.

[00:01:46] We had an epic, epic, welcome back to the podcast, season two. Season two. Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, I don't know if it shows, but my name on the call right now, Jack Linsky, I don't know. I don't know where you are. I see it, but let me see if we can. There was a lot of comparisons. We're gonna have to talk about it. Man, I'm so excited to be back.

[00:03:02] There's always a feeling,

[00:03:03] I told my friends when we were watching the opening

[00:03:05] last night, it's like, to hear your takes. Oh, I am. I mean, of course, you know, I love my baby boy, the Jack Atkins, but I have never been more excited

[00:04:20] to hear Jack's takes on this episode.

[00:04:24] Just, I literally, out to like I just so

[00:06:43] 20 seconds. So listen, if you have not experienced a Bryce and when present party, do yourself a favor window. What what are

[00:06:48] you? Your overarching take on everything? Um well, your voice

[00:06:54] says it all because when the was screaming all night. Oh, it's

[00:06:57] been a night on the horse. Um I will say incredible premiere

[00:07:02] party. It's so good to be back and this tour is gonna be one We hit the beach, you know, Survivor 46, we get a great intro from our man Tevin. And we see some other clips of people coming in, but we hit the beach and just to... They said Tevin Angelo. They said he sounded like Maya. Maya Angelo in that intro. I just, again, had to give my shout out to a...

[00:08:21] Never in my wildest dreams would I think someone like Tevin

[00:08:24] would be introing us in for the first two minutes.

[00:08:27] And, like, he has a way with Tim, Gem, Maria, and Mariah. And then Waren Purple, we got Yannu, Jelinski, Bhanu, Q, Kenzie, Jess, and Tiffany. Jeff gives this big opening speech, and I wanted to bring this up, where he's like, some of y'all never gonna win.

[00:09:43] Some of y'all don't even know it, but you suck. And everyone's like, yeah, he's like, all you guys are nodding along,

[00:09:46] but you don't know that you Like don't, you should put that doubt in somebody's head because it's like, you know, that could really eat away at people. So I don't love it. I love it because in an era where people are saying, Jeff is too soft and saying like, you know, we had some quitters last season

[00:11:01] and he didn't go in on them.

[00:11:03] I think him from the jump, keeping it funky is like,

[00:11:06] yo, y'all are here now. to pace, we'll take it. And we get to this opening challenge where the winning tribe is going to earn their camp supplies. And then the second place job is going to choose other they want to compete in the sweat or the savvy challenge. And it's a pretty straightforward opening challenge. I genuinely was concerned. This was a very Bruce esque challenge of like

[00:12:22] diving headfirst under things. I was like, did we not learn our lesson a year ago? together, which ultimately of course leads to, you know, Nami earning their supplies, Siga gets second and they choose to do savvy. And then Yannoo is stuck with sweat. So just a couple of things I wanted to throw out to you guys. A, any takeaways in general from this challenge? And then B, I also want to hear if you're Siga, do you choose sweat or

[00:13:40] do you choose savvy? the team did the team get to pick it for them? CEO got second and they got to choose whether they wanted savvy or sweat. And then I liked the fact that they were in savage mode and they was like, no, like make them sweat. And they, I, so I liked that the fact that they are actually like out here and they're like, they are taking a page out of Jeff's book.

[00:15:00] Like we all survive are like, they're doing sweats.

[00:15:06] I like that too.

[00:15:07] Yeah. Savvy, it's like, if you don't get it, you don't get it. You tell your tribe, we didn't, we didn't figure it out. And it is what it is. Sweat, it's like, if you're going to get it, you got to work for four hours and it's going to be a grind. And if you don't do that, as we see, it does not look good. Um, uh, question.

[00:16:25] So when people say several, what normally is the number that you generally think of? I actually, I was excited to talk about this.

[00:17:22] the number that I land on is definitely not going to be seven.

[00:17:27] I think of when people say several, I think anywhere between like two

[00:17:32] and 10, well, maybe four and 10, but I just don't land on seven. I usually, but this was an interesting discussion to have with people,

[00:17:36] because I always have thought that it's about seven, you know,

[00:17:39] they say it's going to take, but when they do or three, you know,

[00:17:43] right. When DC might say, Hey, if I told you, like, I have many people coming over around how many people would you think I meant by many? Many? That could be more than several if you ask me. Yeah.

[00:19:00] So you have like an estimation, right?

[00:19:02] So I think several, I think it could be, it was Jelinski giving his confessionals sitting down in front of the bucket while Q is still walking back and forth. And so

[00:20:22] yeah, so I would love to just know like your thoughts, Jack, on Jelinski

[00:21:23] I don't think they're allowed to like fill the holes with like their buffer their shirts

[00:21:27] But maybe you put the bucket inside the other bucket and turn it so that the

[00:21:31] And then you take turns going on trips

[00:21:37] Or if you're jolinski and you're that gas just be like look I need a break like let me take a break I'll get back to it, but I'm not just gonna give up and then on top of that

[00:21:41] You know to make this whole

[00:21:44] Show of throwing the hourglass and stuff. It's like you kind of come up with any excuse as to why you should quit. But obviously that's way different than quitting the game. Now, Jeff gave him some some flack for doing that and I agree with giving people flack,

[00:23:03] but quitting the game altogether versus quitting the sweat challenge. You know, just watch now there's probably there may be some truth in that but from seeing the things that Q is saying and the motivation that he was providing and knowing Q's background as like a gritty guy from Memphis who played college football. He's, he's gone through harder physical things than this challenge, I would be surprised to think that Q was going to quit now maybe Jelinski throughout the idea and Jill and Q was like, sure, like we can do that, but that's not the big difference between, I mean, I saw someone posted like a Michael Jordan tweet about this, it's like, there's a difference between like, fit like giving it your all and failing versus like failing to give it your all. But also when you're on Survivor and it's a physical,

[00:25:42] it's physical, you know, you're not gonna be eating.

[00:25:44] Should I give it my all and you fail, it's like, well, you are so confident for no reason. And that's not just ad jolinski, that's just like a general thing that we see time and time again

[00:27:01] with people volunteering to do the first puzzle,

[00:27:04] for example.

[00:27:05] If there's a difference between someone who's like,

[00:27:06] I'm great at puzzles, when I would be using like these big puzzle pieces and just like toss it down, Jeff would always say something like, something like about the art department or like, yo, you're messing with these people's art.

[00:28:22] When I saw Cholinsky throw that and it shattered,

[00:28:25] I'm like, oh, they confident almost arrogant almost like Almost too much and then

[00:29:40] Q and then when I saw him with Jelinski and how he was motivating Jelinski and how he was

[00:29:47] I'm excited for you. But I do think there's going to be interesting balance, like you said, where he clearly has some good leadership qualities, but he also seems a little bit stubborn. Like when it came to some of the building, like this how it's got to go. Like, but it's like, really has a lot of respect from his tribe. So that could work in spades.

[00:31:00] Or they can just use them until they don't need them.

[00:31:04] Exactly. I almost could have got it from just reading the regular note when it was like, what you need will be under it. And they were looking. But can we also just take a moment to give appreciation to the Green Tribe? Because I love them, right? I think Tim is great, Dr. Maria. But shout out to the baby boy, Ben and Charlie.

[00:32:21] Seeing them together and work through this

[00:32:23] and just Ben raging through it.

[00:32:26] And shout out to to be on mom. Right? Like, don't get that twisted. Like, I'm out here to play. And I was like, yeah. She's just tough and smart.

[00:33:42] Again, I said this on IsoLook,, I know how women work. I was like, in a wife. He's got every kind of woman in his audience. Just a black man. But to be fair, his observation wasn't wrong

[00:35:00] about the women getting close,

[00:35:01] and obviously as a guy that can be dangerous

[00:35:04] in the game of Survivor.

[00:35:05] It almost reminded like, oh, if I was out there, all this like camp singing would just annoy the heck out of me. And it goes to Hunter, who's just kind of this mellow mannered southern guy.

[00:36:22] He's just like, I was a camp counselor and a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a

[00:37:40] little bit of a

[00:37:42] little bit of a

[00:37:44] little bit of a

[00:37:46] little bit of a player and I loved how she flipped that and was like instead of going with what he's saying let me give this information to her and now I'm building even more right like it also the way that he almost brought it to soda was like we gotta get her out right and it's not really like asking for sodas advice and

[00:39:00] so I feel like the way that soda went about it to Venus almost makes Venus a

[00:39:04] little bit more like it's gonna be fun to watch. Yeah, definitely seems like there's some chaotic energy on the Orange Nami tribe. And then, sorry, to kick it back over to Janu,

[00:40:23] before we get to this journey,

[00:40:25] obviously we talked about the sweat challenge, He's emotional, he's smart, and I love how he's able to kind of sort of weave himself into the tribe without really making it seem like he's trying to make alliances. I think for me, the most relatable person here is Jess, right? I don't know. It's something about her that I feel like at times, although most people see this big

[00:41:42] energy, I'm intro do this. Everyone's like, all right, you got it.

[00:43:01] And then we see the other tribes

[00:43:03] go a little bit more democratic with it.

[00:43:05] Nami actually uses the shot in the dark to roll or the journey decision where he loses his vote or whatever, so on and so forth. I don't think those specific decisions are undeniably bad or inarguably bad decisions. But I think the issue with his game, watching sort of his post-game interview is like,

[00:44:23] or even sort of Adam Klein tweeted about this

[00:44:25] where it's like, sure, things could have theoretically all worked out super duper well for him. And he like could have won an extra vote, da da da. But it's like just putting yourself out there for all these things when they don't go your way, that's where you're not unlucky. You're like, you're acting into gambling.

[00:45:42] Ironically, he's a slot machine salesman

[00:45:44] and slot machine salesman in Vegas

[00:45:47] by choosing to sort of take a gamble on like season 43, like she wasn't unlucky. But I think for Jelinski, for me, I think it's really like not even, I think for me, it's his, I think what it is is that he loves Survivor. He's so hyped to be out there and he wants to do everything. I think that that overrided his ability to read the room,

[00:47:03] right?

[00:47:04] Like where it's like, okay It's still so up in the air because people are feeling each other out. And I don't mind the idea of going on the journey, but I just think if I see someone be like, if I'm out there and it's time for the first journey and someone's like, I really wanna go,

[00:48:20] I really wanna go, I really wanna go.

[00:48:21] I'm like, we all know there's gonna be

[00:48:23] some sort of advantage or something there.

[00:48:25] Why are you so eager to go?

[00:49:22] I think if you go to the journey later on when the pre-merge numbers are a little bit smaller,

[00:49:25] now whatever reward you might win,

[00:49:28] like an extra vote is actually gonna be more impactful

[00:49:31] if you do go to tribal.

[00:49:32] Obviously there's the inverse of that

[00:49:34] where if you lose your vote

[00:49:35] and there's only like four people on your tribe,

[00:49:37] you could be in trouble.

[00:49:39] But I think you have to have confidence in yourself

[00:49:41] if you're a good player to be like,

[00:49:42] I could probably maneuver my way out of this

[00:49:45] and use this extra vote potentially torch and now it forces Tevin and Jelinski, I guess, to name whatever they have, right? Like, again, for me, this just shows Dr. Maria is not to be played with. And I love Tevin. Tevin was like, well, I have it, so I'm not going to lie. I do question Jelinski here where it's like,

[00:51:03] I understand that after Maria was like, well, we're going to, if damn if you do, damn if you don't, like either way. So she kind of shook him down. But again, to his credit, like you're saying, it's like, man, I'ma just come clean. This is the hand I was dealt right now, literally. I'll lose my vote, but hopefully this protects

[00:52:20] some kind of bond with us in the future.

[00:52:23] This is a plan for the future.

[00:52:25] I also love how Dr. Marie was like,

[00:53:20] I loved it. Like, I just love the fact that we can see someone show up

[00:53:24] as their whole self, play as their whole self.

[00:53:27] And it's like, it is giving them ability

[00:53:31] and power in this game.

[00:53:33] Yeah, this situation was really interesting to me

[00:53:36] because I think, and I don't know if I like this

[00:53:42] about this little journey or not,

[00:53:44] but I think if you pull the skull card,

[00:53:46] like Wendell said, you're a lot like you're going with that. And so I think going into it the best, and I'm sorry guys, I know the best move is to kind of do what Jelinski did, but earlier sort of be like, look, I don't want,

[00:55:01] I like you guys. I don't want to lie to you guys.

[00:55:03] I have the skull card. I don't want to like forward,

[00:55:06] like, you know, I don't want to be. What do you want me to do? Look, I'm not yelling at you. I'm just saying that's like that's like that's like Look, if I'm in Maria's shoes, right? I'm gonna be like, even if I'm super understanding which I think me, Jack as a player would understand it. I would even if I completely understand why you would lie

[00:56:22] I would still be like, but damn, he's a good ass liar.

[00:56:25] Like he just got me So it's like, I need to go balls to the wall. However, even if I don't go balls to the wall, I'm with you, Jack. The only thing that Jelinski, when he got back to the island, he should have said, like, he should have said that, like, they got it. Like, he fought for it. And they, like, they guessed it.

[00:57:40] Yeah.

[00:57:41] That's all.

[00:57:42] Yeah.

[00:57:43] Because, shawl, the way Tiffany said, well, I don't want to piss people off, which is like, that's fair, but I actually don't care if you piss people off because you're not me. So now you have more favor with the other tribes than I do and you get the ammo. And I think that ultimately speaks to why they decided to go home because right now, Jess is sort of not a relevant factor in the outcomes of this trip.

[00:59:05] And I don't mean that in a but again, it's weird because it's like initially going into it. First of all, like, you know, we, I've met Jelinski before. So it's like, it's nothing but love. And so I had very high hopes for Jelinski and seeing a lot of this unfold, I was mad.

[01:00:21] Like I was like, Jelinski, what baby boy, what is you doing?

[01:01:23] probably the most iconic first boot of the new era. And so, and like I said,

[01:01:25] I don't think that even his decisions specifically

[01:01:26] were like terrible,

[01:01:28] but it's just sort of that attitude that you have

[01:01:29] where he comes in as a young fan who's so enthusiastic,

[01:01:33] but he's also fighting like,

[01:01:34] oh, I kind of want to be a good guy.

[01:01:36] And he's just trying to get this whole survivor experience

[01:01:38] in two days.

[01:01:39] And that mentality that leads to this snowball

[01:01:42] that sort of builds and builds and builds.

[01:01:44] And it's the reason that he went out.

[01:01:46] And let me just tell you this.

[01:02:42] talking trash about basketball to me. I'm like, first of all, I don't know you young man.

[01:02:45] So I'm like, oh, homeboy, like with that confidence,

[01:02:50] this man's gonna win.

[01:02:51] And also in that very same vein window, right?

[01:02:54] Like I spent a lot of time observing Jelinski, right?

[01:02:58] And I remember telling you that I remember him

[01:03:01] like at our finale, he was like peered up against the wall

[01:04:03] But he's got a great sport about it in his exit press too. And that's, yeah.

[01:04:04] I know this guy can't beat me at basketball now.

[01:04:06] But listen, I can't wait to see him either

[01:04:10] because that's who made people.

[01:04:11] What, imagine he comes up to the hoop

[01:04:13] and he's just like, can't make a lay.

[01:04:15] No.

[01:04:16] But listen, he's just like, you know the air ball?

[01:04:19] Is that's what big people like to say, Jelinski,

[01:04:23] I've made it farther in the past where it's like, even last season, you gotta go through multiple steps to find it, or you gotta use different phrases to activate it, and you have to rely on basically other people to help you.

[01:05:40] Now it's just like, okay, if we do happen to lose,

[01:05:42] I probably got an idol waiting for me.

[01:05:44] Which is-

[01:05:45] Can we, in hindsight,'s not scared. Like, I love that. Cause I would be a little scared to do all of that. I love that about it. That's gonna be a strong duo, Kenzie and Tiff. And I do want to shout out my God, Brandon Donland,

[01:07:01] because I liked what he did last season where he found it.

[01:07:05] And he was like, oh, you want to open it in front of me?

[01:07:07] You could have it. I try to turn it on you and neither of those things are like commitments that I really want to be a partner. How did it work out for Brendan Cotton? Fine. I know. Brendan Donner or Cotton? Cotton. Well, he saved himself, travel number one. I mean, I know, but no, do you remember who was the young lady that saw them and then tried to switch it up on them?

[01:08:20] I think Maddie.

[01:08:21] Was it Maddie?

[01:08:22] You don't remember that thing?

[01:08:25] Sort of.

[01:08:26] The posse remembers. thing, but also Jack describe this challenge to us, please. Yes. Yeah. So we're carrying a large stuffed Jacko. I believe it's 500 pounds. Also extremely cute stuffed animal. Um, and then we carry it through a big obstacle course. Because this is heavy though. Shut up. Whatever you're about to say. No, it's a serious question.

[01:11:01] We've in this challenge because

[01:11:05] which are

[01:12:05] And then, no.

[01:12:05] No.

[01:12:08] Jack, you were saying. So, Yani gets off to an early lead.

[01:12:10] They're able to keep the lead

[01:12:11] and they cook on the puzzle

[01:12:13] and kind of take down first place pretty easily.

[01:12:17] Siga gets there next

[01:12:18] and Yani gets there a little bit after.

[01:12:21] And honestly, Yani was just struggling.

[01:12:23] I mean, Jess was a little frazzled.

[01:12:25] Jelinski was just like.

[01:12:27] Okay, so, like now he actually needs it. That's right. If he could do it for sure. But like that's what for me, if I was out there, the only time I'm volunteering for a puzzle, unless everyone else is like, Jack, you would need it. If it's a slide puzzle, then Jack I volunteer you because Jack is real nasty at a slide puzzle. That's what I was gonna say. If it's a slide puzzle, I'll volunteer.

[01:13:41] Cause I know I can do it.

[01:13:42] Anything else I'm not stepping up unless I need to.

[01:13:45] Jack was moving that thing.

[01:13:47] I was like, Oh, but either way, right? for sure. That again that's just like what I said earlier just stop volunteering man. But just hang out. He got no chill. It's Jalec, no chill. But it's like that also is low key. Why?

[01:16:20] We love him though right? Like it's like my man my man said I came out here to play. And we get back to the camp and they say, hey, hey, we walk into the well. And he just of all the times you want to sit down and chill. So the only time you shouldn't be sitting down and chill.

[01:16:27] You know, it's a problem when just Uh, no, but it's just like, oh, Jelinski. It's time. Do you think when he volunteered for the puzzle, anyone was like, Jelinski. No! No! You done it all. No! No, Jelinski. And you know.

[01:17:40] Jelinski.

[01:17:41] He's like,

[01:17:42] I'm doin' it.

[01:17:44] But you know that like, confidence right like you gotta admire for Kalinsky. Oh, why was he not just doing that possible? You gave him two votes. You broke the hour. I will say I respect to move through life with that much confidence. No, I listen.

[01:19:01] You're you're gonna you're always gonna be happy with

[01:19:03] yourself. Listen, I'm it Jelinski would have went to the well. I wonder if what could ever even gave them the opportunity at that time. Like, you know what I mean? I wonder how. And she acknowledges that in in Jelinski, sure, he's a wild card. And he's been struggling in his own right. But I do think you know, all

[01:21:40] things considered he yeah, he's probably more of an asset in the

[01:21:43] challenges just from sheer like physicality.

[01:22:46] Okay, independent of the more important debate for me too is though, is that it's if I'm a Kenzie or a Bonnie or whatever, even a Q or a Tiffany.

[01:22:52] Jelinski seems like he's pretty comfortable in the solidity of our Alliance, right?

[01:22:57] Like he just goes and he posts up.

[01:22:58] He's like, all right, my Alliance got me.

[01:22:59] I'm not going to scramble.

[01:23:00] Now, Jelinski going into the game, talked a big game about like stabbing people in the

[01:23:04] back, but that's always going to be a factor of like, well, if you're struggling just with surviving, I would get worried like long-term down the line.

[01:24:21] Like if it gets too rough, will you potentially quit
