I am solo dolo running this B&B and it is going to be a mess without Mike Bloom, but he is busy, but will don't worry be back next week. This season, totally inspired by duos. That's who's running the show. And I could not think of a better duo. I mean, obviously, apart from me, but another human whose sole goal it is, along with myself, to annoy you, Puyah, during Goose Goose Duck streams.
[00:01:47] But everybody else probably knows him from Survivor 43. It is Dwight Moore. Dwight, how are you? I'm doing great. I'm so excited to be here. Thank you guys for letting me be here on this podcast with you to annoy Puyah as well, because like I said, it's a full time job annoying him. It brings me a lot of joy to do so. So thank you for letting me be present for that. Of course. No, I appreciate that. You coming in on another day to do another shift of annoying Puyah. Yeah, gladly. [00:02:15] Okay, beautiful. Well, Dwight, I do want to start with you because we have not heard your thoughts on this season as a whole. And obviously, we'll get into this episode proper. But how are you feeling about Survivor 48 so far? Um, mixed opinions also, like I said, I love the cast cast like they're amazing. But right now with the gameplay, it's kind of like this is from, you know, I am biased. I'm more of the strategist type of player. So I'm like, okay, how would I see myself doing here?
[00:02:42] I'm like when a lot of when the group has like a big group kind of saying, yeah, we are this strong alliance now. And sorry to the rest of you, but you're getting voted out. It's like, well, damn, like, where's the room for maneuvering? Right. We had similar like on my season, we had a similar stint with the seven right that we had for a little bit. And I fell apart in like an episode or two. So I'm curious to see where it falls apart here and that can like really spark the gameplay going there. Um, but I could see like every everyone when you go out there, you want to play, you want to win.
[00:03:11] And if the way for you to win is to create this dominant quote unquote boring alliance that gives you power. I mean, I don't fault the players for doing that at all like that. It works for them. It's just makes it hard to see where, where, where the game is going, right? Is it going to be strong lines dominating for a while? Cause I think it could be these, these people seem to be the type of great could stick this five and write it for a long time. And other groups you see like where the cracks to come this one, I feel like they could write out for a while.
[00:03:39] So I'm, I'm intrigued to see where this goes, uh, in the future for sure. Yeah. And Pouya apart from doubting Dwight's strategic abilities, what, uh, what are your thoughts on this? Did you see the look he gave you Dwight when you were like, I'm a strategic player. I thought I wasn't even going to acknowledge it. I'm not going to acknowledge his face there. I didn't say anything. You said you're more of a strategic player. And my only thought was, where was it? Did I see it? Cause I don't know. Anyway, we're already. Okay. Yeah.
[00:04:09] Speak. What was the question? I completely forgot. What are your thoughts on survivor 48? Okay. So here's the thing. I remember when the season started, I was like, okay, I'm loving this cast. I like what I'm seeing. There were a lot of players. Like I liked everybody at one point, which made the tribals be brutal for me. Um, now I think it is very interesting that this group has come together. And I think, you know, I also am somebody who, yes, the strategy intrigues me.
[00:04:39] I'm more of a, I enjoy the social element of the game. And I think an Alliance like this and the way David specifically wants to play the game is devoid of strategy or social game. It's like, okay, I got my social fill. I locked my group of five. That's what we're doing. Nothing else matters, which then naturally is going to get some outrage from the audience and naturally is going to get outrage from the players. Not in yours. Quote unquote strong five, which what a name. What a, what a creative name. Love love. Strong five is.
[00:05:08] I mean, yeah, strong five sounds like a protein shake to me. Yeah. Dwight would know. Ask him. I, um, anyways, I'm ignoring that comment there. Um, I want to, I do want to touch on, you mentioned, uh, David and that strong five thing. I mean, the interesting thing about that is David very publicly brought in Mary, who's not in the strong five and said, yeah, yeah, she's with us now. So honestly, he's kind of doing more than the rest of the strong five in, in some capacity. Right. He's at least saying like, Oh, the strong five plus my plus one.
[00:05:38] No one else can add theirs. So like he's allowed, he's allowed to make it a strong five, which by the way, if I'm bringing in somebody, I'd want to rebrand it. Uh, not being like strong five plus Mary, Mary, not strong five, not established as a strong person. They say strong six. Right. But then that's always such, if you can't use numbers, you can never use the numbers and alliance names. Brother lesson to be learned by everybody. Yeah. Yeah. But, uh, okay.
[00:06:02] But I think to go back to sort of a combination of the points that the two of you made, I think that that big, strong alliance, like that is a strategic decision. And everything that David did was a strategic decision, whether or not it was a good strategic decision, because I don't hate on David for thinking like, look, this is my most optimal path. To the end, which is to get the big guys together. I think for me, where a lot of the thorns and prickliness start to come in is how he delivers that. Yes.
[00:06:30] The social game that will not be there. Exactly. Which goes into the comments about, I think David just, you know, ruined his chances with jury management. I think that's what Camilla says that, you know, you really have to be cautious about how you manage the jury because in the same way that Chrissy should be allowed to say, look, we misfits or, you know, whatever need to get together. Then David can also say, yeah, OK, but all big guys need to get together instead of it then being like this almost a judgment towards Chrissy for like, how dare you target us?
[00:07:00] Mm hmm. So I'm going to take this from us. You're going to take this from us. This is ours. This is our season. It's our turn. Yeah, we deserve this. Right. We've had it so bad for so long. Right. Yeah. We deserve. Yeah, exactly. These weaklings have been winning for so long. It's our turn, Dwight. No, but it's it's so intriguing to me because like, you know, various cast have different expectations when they cast the season. Right.
[00:07:26] And this season, even when it got announced, we were saying this was like a more athletic cast of a bigger cast. So and we see it playing out now, like a lot of these bigger guys made it to the merge phase and they all immediately linked up. Like, was that what casting intended? Possibly because, you know, the cast was an idea in mind when I have been to have the whole the whole puzzle put together. Right. And every single one of these big guys making it to the merge stage. And I mean, it played out kind of as you would expect, I guess, you know, they all kind of linked up together.
[00:07:53] No one has the let's take each other out. They all this kind of collaborative like, well, we've seen recent seasons. None of the quote unquote bigger guys have won in the new era in a while. Why don't we just make it happen? So like I said, from their perspective, I get it. It makes sense. It is a sound strategic move from that. But it's just if you all get to the end, you set yourself apart to win. And I think David is setting himself apart to lose the way he's handling everyone else.
[00:08:18] Right. Like every other person in the strong five, in my opinion, is that I have a better chance of winning a day right now. So I don't see David really doing well with the other people at the moment. But who knows what we don't see? Right. But what they're showing us at the very least is he is torching his chances of winning at the moment. That's the same feeling I had last night, which was OK, so the way you're playing the game will get a quote unquote strong person to win. That's going to happen if it follows the way it has been.
[00:08:46] The issue is you have now made sure that you are the one person from your strong five that is not going to win sitting next to any combination of your other strong five. Like, I just don't see it for him. I think that carrying yourself and I think this was my biggest issue. And Liana, you touched on this. It isn't the decision to, you know, band all the strong people together. It isn't the decision to take out every other person and lock it in because as much as it can make a boring season when it's a steamroll it.
[00:09:16] If you can make it happen, it's beneficial to your game. It's the way in which he went about it. It was very much you're taking no one else's thoughts into it. You have no empathy for anybody else. Your game matters. No one else's matters, which obviously you got to play the game selfishly. You got to play for you more than anybody else. But you got to understand that everyone here is doing the same thing. You can't punish people for having opinions. And it really felt like a tribal and a little bit before tribal. It was a oh, you don't think this way. I'm gonna punish you for it.
[00:09:46] I'm a verbally take you down, which was unnecessary. Absurd. Yes. And you don't see that kind of banter like are you tribal in the new era because like shot in the dark is always the thing. You kind of have to like keep it low key like tribal council is is a dance. You know, you have to figure out what you can say what you can't say. They took the dancing shoes off and said we're fighting put on the boxing gloves. I'm like, what are we doing? They're just letting it rip. So it's so intriguing to me how they're playing this season.
[00:10:15] Um, but like that part was kind of hanging me like, okay, you're just no pretense at all tribal. Just say what's on your mind. Go for it. Chrissy did that the last two tribal. I'm like, please stop. But oh my gosh. Yeah. I mean, that's a thing is that Chrissy. So okay, like a thousand thoughts. Okay. So just talk about Chrissy for a second. Like Chrissy. I mean, last week we had talked about this where I was like, what Chrissy girl? What are you doing? And we see her come back and she's like, you guys know that I'm just playing.
[00:10:44] I wouldn't even. And it's like, okay, but you're still thinking those things. So even if you are, let's say being genuine, which probably she's not, it's still like such a red flag. And then she continues to go on and do it here. I mean, obviously I was Camilla survives, but almost sometimes it feels like this is not a consequence of you and your allies is a consequence of Chrissy, like lighting her own game on fire. Yeah. And I'm very curious as to what we didn't see.
[00:11:12] Like, cause I can imagine she brought that on the island before tribal too. Like she had to have brought the energy before trying to flip a boat. So I'm curious why we didn't see too much of that. We just saw a lot of the decision going into tribal between the big group, but not so much of Chrissy, I guess, fighting for her life in the game. Yeah. I'm not sure if she knew the writing, like she didn't play or found the dark. So I'm not sure how much of the writing was on the wall, but it seemed like she kind of knew the writing was on the wall. Um, given how she was going at swinging and tribal. So let's see another act. Yeah. Everyone was all in on.
[00:11:41] Well, I saw her exit. She mentioned that she didn't know there was a Camilla plan. She was like, Kyle told Camilla. So Camilla had an inkling to do something different. I thought I was done. So I just kind of put everything out there. But I do like the idea that especially starting this last this episode, they're coming back and she's trying to play it off like it's just banter. You know, I'm just smack talking. This is what I do. You know, we're just we're just kind of talking shit for the sake of it. It's not that wasn't anything serious.
[00:12:09] And then by the end of this, no, you need to let Joe go. He's so strong. He needs to leave. We need to stop Kumbaya. I was like, OK, well, now it's just like you're doubling that there's no longer smack talk. This is your feeling being lively portrayed. But yeah, then I don't know why Chrissy didn't play her shot in the dark, though, that I write like that's kind of the weird thing. I'm just like I love the idea, though, of Chrissy sort of just like scrambling in the background while David is berating Kyle for not wanting to vote at Camilla.
[00:12:36] Like there's this whole B plot going on that we just didn't get to see at all. But I mean, that's the other thing. Like, how did we go from I mean, what the editing told us obviously was this very intense discussion between the I guess the six. Because we'll include Mary in there. So the strong six to then being a nine one vote. Right. Like that to me is also the most shocking that we didn't really get to see. And I know that I know. I know. I get it. They want to make it exciting. But still, like no one broke suit. They all ended up falling in line.
[00:13:06] I mean, yeah, I mean, part of it, I think, is because of and we'll get into that star losing her vote kind of stifles any possibility of an uprising. Right. Because if you have everybody there, you just want to flip and now you would need possibly to the flip. And he's like, it's just it makes things so difficult, especially when and this shocked me. And I've texted. I think I was texting Jesse about this, too, when we saw happened on the episode of the group of like five of them just on the beach. If you see that, you're just like, OK, like what do we do that?
[00:13:35] You just see a massive group doesn't give a care in order to say we're running this game. We're going to have a group huddle on the beach itself. That never happened for us. Like, what do you mean you're huddling in public? Like don't have your two person, three first conversations. Five people on a tribal with nine people voting is absurd to me that they're getting away with that. And that no shine the dark was played like that beyond me. Yeah. But yeah, I think that just like the loss of vote stifles any kind of play from the minority in that.
[00:14:03] Yeah. Well, and loud like the group, the group on the beach. Loudly arguing as well. And that's the thing is, is that we see David not only misplay to the people outside of his alliance, but I also feel like misplaying within his own alliance of being so like willing to so browbeat his point. It was like, no, this is what has to happen now, obviously, to his credit and Mary's credit. They pick up right. OK, well, why does Kyle want to keep Camilla so bad?
[00:14:32] So it is revealing some relationships throughout this. But it just feels like there's a more subtle way to go about getting that information. A lot more subtlety could have been taken on both sides. I think like, yeah, David kind of pushing for the vote on Camilla. But also, like I said, what they showed, I don't know. But Kyle's argument to keep Camilla, he didn't seem to provide anything besides like not Camilla. I'm just like, give us like a lot, a lot, a logical chain to follow. Like, why do we need to, you know, take out? You want Christian instead, right? Like follow that chain of logic.
[00:15:01] Don't just say, well, just not Camilla. You know, like you gotta make it make it believable and not that you're defending someone. Make it like you're attacking someone else. He tried a little by implying that, well, Camilla has been voting the same way we have been voting the last little bit. And David at that point correctly is like, well, we don't need that. We have our numbers. We don't need more. So what checkmate? What do you want? What else?
[00:15:26] But I do think it's funny to me because I clearly remember last week Camilla being the one kind of inceptioning David about Shaheen and be like, I think he has an idol. Just FYI. So if they're aligned, David, why would she tell you her ally has an idol? Make that part make sense because she's at the very least doing the double dip, but you're getting information on people you might want. Unless there's something we didn't see where he's like, you know what? I don't care. Shaheen has the idol or not.
[00:15:55] I'm working with him. I like him. I don't care. Camilla needs to leave because no one else can have a plus one. But me, I think that's the other thing we're seeing here is I don't think I think David. David likes the idea of getting to the final six. And then I guess likens his odds of navigating from six forward with himself, Mary. And who? Who is his third?
[00:16:18] If he's trying to have at least three at six, that's the question I have, because I feel like if anything, you just push the other four together now moving forward. Yeah, because Joe in his theoretical world would be Joe and Eva who that's never not. Yeah, right. It's Kyle and Shaheen. Right. Yeah. And I feel like it's gonna eventually get out that, you know, David is going after Camilla, which in his world would push Shaheen away. So, you know, it's I'm intrigued by the long term thought processes here.
[00:16:47] So I think there's a universe where where David wanted out Shaheen. So I think that that's actually a very real possibility, because at the reward when it is Eva, Joe, Shaheen or Eva, Joe, David and Mary, David goes. So maybe it was Mary who flew. I mean, regardless, they brought up the best friends now. Yeah. So David and Mary, whomever brought it up between the two of them, like, we're hey, so how do you feel about Shaheen?
[00:17:16] And an immediate pushback from Joe. Joe goes, he's never been nothing but loyal to me. And I feel like that stopped any movement on Shaheen in its tracks. So David ended up choosing potentially what he thought was the next best option, which was Camilla based on the fact that Shaheen chose Camilla. But to your point about the whole idol situation, it wasn't like Camilla chose Shaheen. Shaheen is clearly the one going for her. And then Camilla is funneling you that information. So if you think like the next level, that could still be advantageous to you. Right.
[00:17:46] So, yeah, it was just a questionable set of decisions that were made, I think, by David in this episode. But to go back, Dwight, to what you mentioned in terms of the losing the vote. Ah, another reason why solely in the game. Why are we doing the losing the vote thing? And I'm talking to two Twitch streamers who I'm sure are very familiar with Mario Party. And now essentially the game that they played on the journey was the same as a Mario Party game.
[00:18:13] It was. It's a fun game. It's a very fun game. It's not as fun when it's like, all right, first to get all three loses their vote, which means no one's going to care to do anything. The like Camilla makes the right choice of like, well, I'm not losing my vote here. Star is going to effort. Let's just end it. I don't want to think beyond that completely. Yes. Like once I have to make a Mario Party comparison, but like at least in Mario Party, you're playing to win the game. Right. Like there's a goal of you.
[00:18:41] It's not like get make the first person loses to win. And I'm not sure. Last one standing. Yeah. Yeah, this does this game design. I'm not sure how well it works with the first person out just loses because like Camilla made the right call. Don't extend the game when you can just take out the person right there. Like first person get a ball at that point. Yeah. Dump it on that person. Cool. Whatever. Also, there's some kind of way to shift the order would be like because yeah, Camilla's forced to target star in this configuration.
[00:19:09] There's a way to change the order sometime during the game that they did. That'd be nice. I'm a lot of things going into what I was thinking when I saw that of like. Doesn't seem like the most balanced journey, especially in the, you know, first person lose only loses format. But yeah, also just the concept of. Not before we want the challenge means you lose, but I still don't like that, you know, and like I get it's exacerbated this season because the strong alliance happens to be the people who aren't going to lose their row anyways.
[00:19:38] So the issue is exacerbated for this season, but just in general. Okay, I'm not just like a strong alliance, like whatever. Like I don't care. Like just in general, I don't like the concept of you lose your say in this game because you're bad at a challenge. That's not what survivor has been for so long. I don't like that. It's becoming that now. It's not like if you lose your vote, it should be like on like you go on a journey. You chose to risk it. Like I when I lost my vote, I chose to put that risk happen. I made out like that is my fault. I lost a game of luck.
[00:20:05] These people happen to lose a challenge that was decided far in advance that they don't know if you're going to be good at it or not. And you just are against these absolute freak athletes. So, you know, it's I don't know. It's not not the same survivor concept like that. I grew up watching. Right. Yeah, like not for nothing. I guess the one part of the entire round they had a choice was who they were going to pair up with. Right. But even then, I still also don't love that we're in the individual portion of the game.
[00:20:34] And while I didn't recognize any one weak link causing the pair to lose, I don't like that you're having me saddle my game with somebody else for this challenge where either I could cost them the opportunity to win individual immunity or they cost me the opportunity to win individual immunity. Because and then and then I lose my vote, you know, like if there was a stronger person in a pair and they are the one who loses their vote, that would feel pretty annoying.
[00:21:02] And also, we're 10 people. Let's just have 10 people vote. What's wrong with that? What's so wrong with 10 people voting and anybody could leave? I feel like obviously the note in the new era narrative is where it's a 26 day game, but it's going to be more grueling, more unpredictable and a lot more chaos is going to happen, which is, you know, Mario Party to Monopoly or Monopoly is relatively straightforward.
[00:21:28] You roll the dice, you go forward, you pay the rent, you go to jail, whatever. Now it's like Mario Party is that but also you can lose coins at this space. There's a question mark space. There's a surprise mini game. There's a battle mini game. And it's a lot. It ends up making it where the skill factor has somehow minimized a little and the luck factor has gone up a lot.
[00:21:50] Not that there hasn't always been luck involved with with playing any reality TV show, obviously, but I almost feel like there's too much luck factor. But then you look at the other side of the spectrum, y'all, where we have the four people who get to reward and they have name tags in front of their chipples. And Eva not only wins immunity, but is also handed a special advantage. Now, I understand that you're giving it to the person who want immunity because the odds of them going home is zero that night.
[00:22:19] They ain't going anywhere. You can get this to us to play out. But at what point can we look at it and be like, shall we just be rewarding the the winners with everything? Or do you want it to be a little more, you know, give me the blue shell more if first place gets blue shell? What's the point? Get the blue shell out to that. We're like all over the Mario escape on this. Do you want Mario Party or do you not want Mario Party?
[00:22:41] I'm sorry. Yeah, get your games right. OK, look, it's it's just it is really chaotic. I mean, I think like again, I don't inherently mind the pairs like that to me doesn't that doesn't bother me because I also I like being able to see like who's going to pick who and how they end up deciding.
[00:23:03] Separating, separating that. So that I don't mind to me. It's really the losing the vote situation, which goes back to what Dwight mentioned like early in the podcast, which is it stifles the ability of the group to make a move. And so I think that and also for some reason prevents star from getting any gosh darn screen time when she's so funny and so entertaining. She is literally a star. Speaking of Mario Party, Mario Kart. Right. Like, I miss her. It's just absurd. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:23:33] Like the concept of the immunity when I get in the event like I yeah, they want that twist to play out. I get it. But it's like, does an immunity winner need it? Like, do they do they like I don't know. Do we know what it's going to be? I'm just go find the fire. I presume it's an idol because at this point, the only island play is the idol, right? Is that the only I will currently apply? Oh, yes. Yes.
[00:24:00] Yes. So they're going to introduce a second one. So unless and I imagine they're searching for it. I presume people are there has to emerge. I don't play like there's only one island again. Currently, there's probably second one hit on the beach somewhere. Maybe no one found they said screw it. Put in the game this way. Um, so I can really see even having two idols for a while, which I will I will give her credit for keeping this one secret. I'm not telling anybody recognizing like everything else about my game is public right now. My idol is public.
[00:24:27] Secret credit to Eva for that 100% because that as you should like if you can afford to not tell anyone something go for it because and this has been talked about a lot, but I see always online the concept of why do people in new era talk about their idols like pre-merged idols? Are designed to be talked about other people like is is a risk in losing your vote is a task that sometimes it can be hard to be by yourself. You can do it, but still people figure it out. I think like parting back out my season because I think I remember most Carla like Were you on survivor?
[00:24:54] No, but no, I wasn't actually you wouldn't know Would you want to know? But yeah, Carla on my season like she did the beads all by herself, right? That has was well done No one on her tribe knew if she even did it Then we hit the merge and people find out quickly. Oh, the bees. Oh, yeah, Carla has that like she did on her own so well But it still becomes public knowledge pretty soon. So finding like pre-merged idols and people acknowledge cool post-merged idols You can find those keep it to yourself tell no one and even exactly what you should do with this
[00:25:21] Which is keep that shit to yourself. So I'm very proud of her for doing that And hopefully if it is an idol if it's like another man still keep to yourself cool But as long as she keeps to herself. I'll be super super proud of her in that regard If you tell anybody then I'll be like you had a secret you could have kept why? Um, maybe yeah, maybe it's a chance for her to keep something from Joe, you know, maybe We're gonna set the games apart But I'm not sure right now who between those two who was really standing out in terms of like a potential jury vote down the line

[00:26:52] Just a recap on Twitter In terms of the advantages, I think that Eva's idol is the only thing that's out there Cause Mitch has already used his block of vote So I think that's it I think that's the only advantage that's out there So yeah, Survivor producers, they gotta be Jones and like give him something else I mean, could you imagine Eva with two idols? That would be, that's a lot of power at final nine Nine, yeah Final nine, yeah
[00:27:21] And clearly has the ability to win challenges too So that's You can just And in a majority alliance Yeah Mm-hmm You can guarantee yourself like the end game So we'll see Well, and that's the thing too Like we're It's funny cause we Technically like just got to merge or whatever But you have to start looking at that end game And I think that that was a lot of Camilla's confessionals And Kyle's confessionals Now starting to think like Guy is like great The strong five is fantastic
[00:27:51] But there's no way we can ride this to the end And Camilla's not even a part of it, right? So obviously from her perspective She's like we have to now start utilizing these people on the outs And I'm just so If this power swings too far towards this sort of like strong five alliance You know, how much can the other side do? And like is it too late to dismantle that as we move into the final part of the game? Who are people going to start to think they want to sit next to, right? I mean even within the integrity alliance The strong five
[00:28:19] Like who are they even thinking that they want to sit next to? Which goes back to the conversation we had about Okay, David takes Mary and question mark Right? Like who is that other person? Is it Kyle? Maybe Does he think he can beat Kyle? Maybe Eva is someone who they think they can say like Oh, Joe made all the decisions or something like that Because Joe seems to at least socially have a lot of say A sway in this group because And that also goes to the approach of when they were trying to convince Okay, who should we get out tonight? It was like Kyle kind of freaking out.
[00:28:49] David freaking out and then Joe just trying to stay like calm in the middle Just calm cool collected Trying to drive everything Right?
