Exit Interview: Third Juror Voted Out Survivor 47

Rob Cesternino (@RobCesternino) interviews the latest castaway voted off the Survivor 47 island, followed by This Week In Survivor History with Jordan Kalish (@JordanKalish) where Rob plays against an RHAP patron.

[00:00:00] Hey everybody, what's going on? Rob Cesternino back with an Exit Interview here after a very exciting episode number 10 of Survivor 47. Today we're talking with the latest player voted out of the game, that's Gabe Ortiz, who says he'll be back at the end of the episode. Maybe this is maybe the first of many Exit Interviews with Gabe. We will see as he joins us here in just a moment.

[00:00:27] Then, got a fun This Week in Survivor History coming up with Jordan Kalish after the Exit Interview. Last night it was a great one on the post-game show. Cue Burdette, somebody who I think that maybe he could be back on Survivor one of these days, was on fire during the post-game show. Really fun one. And then Steven is all queued up for the Know-It-Alls today at 3 p.m. So lots of great stuff coming your way.

[00:00:56] Plus our Survivor patron Q&A on Friday at 3 p.m. But we've got Gabe here on the line. Let's go ahead and patch him in.

[00:01:05] Hey Gabe, what's going on? Rob Cesternino. And I've been looking forward to talking to you because I have the feeling that you're going to be somebody who's not going to be shy on a podcast.

[00:01:19] Why would you ever think that?

[00:01:20] I don't think that. I've been looking forward to talking to you.

[00:01:23] All right. So let's talk us through this vote last night.

[00:01:27] How about on the way out? You said to Caroline, you are a snake.

[00:01:32] What made you say that to Caroline?

[00:01:34] That was actually directed towards Teenie.

[00:01:36] That wasn't Caroline.

[00:01:37] Oh!

[00:01:37] Yeah, that was about Teenie. I looked Teenie right in the eyes and I went, you got a little bit of snake in you, huh?

[00:01:43] Yeah.

[00:01:44] Because Teenie was so worked up over the Sol vote and was so worked up over how Genevieve handled it, keeping Teenie in the dark and taking out the number one ally.

[00:01:56] That the whole day, one person I wasn't worried about was Teenie.

[00:02:01] I was like, Teenie is going to vote Genevieve.

[00:02:03] And Teenie told me that all day long.

[00:02:05] And Teenie was not a sneaky player this entire game.

[00:02:09] Teenie had her allies and Teenie stood by them.

[00:02:12] And so not to say that I was one of those allies, but it was more about Teenie standing by Saul in that vote and avenging Saul.

[00:02:19] You even hear in the confessional to open the episode, everything I do for the rest of the game is to avenge you.

[00:02:25] What did I do to Saul other than just go with the plan that everybody else is?

[00:02:28] Genevieve's plan, you want to avenge Saul?

[00:02:30] Take out Genevieve, you know?

[00:02:31] But it was a great play by Teenie.

[00:02:33] And that's what that was, is that it's like you're a deeper player than you put on.

[00:02:38] And it was the moment that I realized that about Teenie was like, you got some snake in you.

[00:02:43] You got some grit in you that's going to carry you, you know, through this game and probably has carried you through this game in ways that I just didn't clock.

[00:02:49] So, yeah, that was about Teenie.

[00:02:51] Was it a real compliment or were you trying to throw some heat on Teenie by saying that?

[00:02:57] No, it was just a very spur of the moment, genuine comment, you know?

[00:03:03] And like, it was like a, it was a compliment insult.

[00:03:05] It was a compliment insult, you know?

[00:03:07] I wanted Teenie to feel a little sting from it.

[00:03:09] I remember that.

[00:03:10] In retrospect, I want it to be understood that it was like you're more of a player than you let on.

[00:03:17] Okay.

[00:03:17] And so that was what that was about.

[00:03:19] Gabe, I love the moment when you and Genevieve were talking.

[00:03:23] It's either going to be me or it's going to be you.

[00:03:25] Did anything else come out of that conversation about a third option?

[00:03:31] Um, so I threw Andy out in that moment, but it was a total decoy.

[00:03:37] Like, you know, the whole reason I even had that conversation.

[00:03:41] You're playing chicken.

[00:03:42] Well, so we were all sitting at the shelter, right?

[00:03:45] In silence.

[00:03:46] And me and Genevieve just kind of like kept like side eyeing each other.

[00:03:49] And it was so awkward.

[00:03:51] And it was so weird.

[00:03:52] And nobody was talking for the first time that day.

[00:03:54] And every it was like when you have and me and Genevieve weren't angry at each other or anything.

[00:03:58] But it was like when you're sitting in a room with two people that everybody knows, like have tension.

[00:04:04] And everyone's just like, oh, like this is kind of weird.

[00:04:07] So I was like, for the sake of everybody else, let's get up and go talk.

[00:04:11] Like just so that everybody can take a breath and we can then say that we had this conversation and just kind of acknowledge like it's you or me tonight.

[00:04:20] Let's not, you know, like beat around the bush here.

[00:04:23] It's either going to be you or it's going to be me.

[00:04:24] And we don't have to pretend that we don't know that's the case.

[00:04:27] What was your reaction to seeing Kyle throwing your name out when he went on the reward?

[00:04:34] I'm not super surprised.

[00:04:36] You know, I was I was a little shocked that it seemed like and what I've heard is that he was the one to open up that conversation.

[00:04:44] So that was a little shocking to me.

[00:04:47] I thought somebody else would throw it out there and then Kyle would be like, I'm down for that.

[00:04:51] But Kyle was the one who was like, Gabe's this really big threat and we got to get him out of the game.

[00:04:56] And, you know, on a personal level, it shocked me because me and Kyle, we were just homies out there.

[00:05:00] That was my that was one of my homeboys out there.

[00:05:02] But then also I thought that Kyle wouldn't come after me because I was the only thing hiding Kyle.

[00:05:09] I was the only person on Tuku who was a viable option other than Kyle if he was vulnerable.

[00:05:16] So for him to choose to take me out when he was invulnerable was a little surprising to me.

[00:05:23] I was like, I feel like this is a vote you want to burn when you are on the chopping block, because it's almost like having, you know, a borderline immunity necklace if you can throw the votes on a bigger threat than yourself.

[00:05:33] So I leave and around when you're safe.

[00:05:36] And then when around comes, when you're not safe, you're not going to have me to throw the votes on.

[00:05:40] So strategically, it's so it surprised me for sure that he came up with the plan at the reward at least.

[00:05:45] And personally, I was like, come on, we're boys.

[00:05:48] What are we doing here?

[00:05:49] Gabe, you were very vocal about the shot in the dark trade for the rice and how Sam should jump on board and do it.

[00:05:57] How do you think that that affected the way people saw you?

[00:06:03] So there was this day where Saul came up to me and Saul says, Gabe, you got to chill at tribal.

[00:06:10] And I was like, what are you talking about?

[00:06:12] Like, I don't throw anybody's name out of tribal.

[00:06:14] I'm not like, you know, where's that coming from?

[00:06:16] He was like, all I'm going to say is that like the answers you're given are freaking people out.

[00:06:20] And I was like, OK, I didn't realize it till after the game that I think around camp, I was like this total goofball.

[00:06:29] Like I got on great with everybody.

[00:06:31] I was the guy who was always telling stories and cracking jokes and, you know, playing around with everybody else who was on the island.

[00:06:38] And and then we get to tribal and I would flip a switch and I would start giving these really complex, elaborate answers and, you know, start speaking very eloquently.

[00:06:47] And I think it freaked a lot of people out that like, who the hell is this guy?

[00:06:52] Because this is not the guy we're sitting at camp with for eight hours every day.

[00:06:55] This is not the guy that we're seeing at challenges.

[00:06:58] So if he's able to just flip this switch, like what else is he hiding?

[00:07:03] How is he talking in conversations that I'm not involved in?

[00:07:06] And we all know that this is the Gabe that's going to be sitting at final tribal council.

[00:07:10] It's not going to be goofy Gabe that's cracking jokes and telling funny high school stories, you know.

[00:07:16] So so I think that that Rice negotiation speech I gave to Sam just further reinforced that it's like, oh, well, OK, Gabe's, you know, real Gabe's coming out again.

[00:07:27] Like and he won the negotiation.

[00:07:29] So it's like this guy can't be sitting at final tribal next to me.

[00:07:34] He just can't.

[00:07:34] So I think that played a little bit more into this fear of the lesser, lesser shown side of me around camp.

[00:07:44] What was the dynamic of the relationship that you had with Sue and Caroline?

[00:07:50] So day one, hour one, I go up to Sue and you see the scene where I say, you know, I bleep and got you, Sue.

[00:07:57] I got you.

[00:07:57] And from that moment on, me and Sue were good.

[00:07:59] I didn't even need to reassure anything with Sue.

[00:08:02] Like every single day, Sue would tell me everything she knew in the game.

[00:08:06] She would tell me everybody that threw my name out.

[00:08:08] And she would tell me any advantage or idol that somebody had they revealed to her.

[00:08:12] Like me and Sue were rock solid from that very, very first conversation.

[00:08:16] And she obviously stayed with me to the very end.

[00:08:19] She's the other person who wrote Genevieve down.

[00:08:22] And when it comes to Caroline, Caroline did not want to work with me early on.

[00:08:26] And Caroline had a pretty rocky start to the game emotionally.

[00:08:30] And, you know, I'll let her kind of discuss that story more.

[00:08:34] But when I first go up to Caroline, I'm like, I really want to work with you.

[00:08:37] Caroline tells me, me and Sue are on the bottom.

[00:08:40] And if we go to tribal, we are both playing our shots in the dark.

[00:08:43] And from their perspective, like, yeah, like nobody was really talking to them.

[00:08:48] Nobody was taking their input very seriously.

[00:08:50] And so that's where the wounded birds comment comes from, is that like Caroline was talking

[00:08:55] to me in tears saying like, I am on the bottom.

[00:08:58] I am playing my shot in the dark as is Sue.

[00:09:00] We know we're outcasts.

[00:09:01] We know that we're not really in this game right now.

[00:09:03] So if it was Kyle and TK who were in that position, then they would have been wounded

[00:09:07] birds.

[00:09:08] But it happened to be Caroline and Sue.

[00:09:10] And so I look at Caroline, I'm like, no, I want to get TK out.

[00:09:15] And if you can't vote because you use your shot in the dark, I can't do that.

[00:09:18] And she's like, well, that just sounds like something that somebody would say if they didn't

[00:09:23] want me to play my shot in the dark and vote me out.

[00:09:25] And then that's when I show her the idol.

[00:09:27] And then it's like, OK, maybe I can work with you.

[00:09:30] She wasn't sold yet.

[00:09:31] Then Sue vouches for me privately to Caroline.

[00:09:34] And then we're locked in.

[00:09:35] And what me and Caroline realized back on Tuku was that we were the only people that were

[00:09:41] really thinking like deeply, deeply, deeply about this game.

[00:09:45] And we would have these conversations at night that went on for like hours, just vomiting

[00:09:50] strategy back and forth.

[00:09:51] You know, just every thought in our brain about the game, big picture, little picture, post

[00:09:56] merge, pre-merge, Tuku, whatever came after that, you know, and the idol play or me showing

[00:10:02] where the idol you see and all this.

[00:10:04] But that is what really built our relationship where those long conversations, just like everything

[00:10:10] we thought about the game, everything we thought about all of our tribe mates, everything we

[00:10:13] wanted to do in the game, just laying it out for each other.

[00:10:16] That's where me and Caroline really got close.

[00:10:18] And we were, you know, strategically, but also emotionally each other's rocks on Tuku.

[00:10:24] Like we were didn't really fit in with everybody else as good as they all fit in with each other.

[00:10:29] And, but me and Caroline knew that we were playing harder than everybody else.

[00:10:32] And that's where we really got close.

[00:10:34] I'm glad you went all the way back.

[00:10:36] I wanted to ask you, what made you play your idol at that tribal council?

[00:10:40] Because that was something that a lot of us had questions about back at the TK vote.

[00:10:45] So there, there were multiple reasons.

[00:10:48] The first one was if we ended up having a tie, I wanted to be safe.

[00:10:55] So if Tiana doesn't flip on TK and we go to a tie and it's 3-3, I wanted to be safe so that I could look at Tiana and say, you went from having a 25% chance of pulling a rock to a 33% chance of pulling a rock.

[00:11:08] And if you're going to stand by this guy and, you know, take those weakened odds going into a rock pool for this guy who, you know, called us all losers.

[00:11:20] Like, what are you doing?

[00:11:22] And I felt very confident that she would have flipped on a re-vote having that heightened chance of going home.

[00:11:28] I also didn't want to play it for Sue, even though that was something I talked about in the episode as a possibility.

[00:11:34] And I felt pretty good the votes were going towards Sue because I didn't want people to know that we were working together.

[00:11:40] I didn't want people to know how close we were.

[00:11:42] And you hear in TK's exit press and you hear in Tiana's exit press that they had no idea how close me and Sue were.

[00:11:49] And I wanted that to persist for as long as possible.

[00:11:51] So even if you don't think that me playing an idol for Sue directly brings us together, it is something tangible that people can use in the game against us and say, well, Gabe played an idol for Sue on like day three, you know.

[00:12:04] And I didn't want any of that.

[00:12:06] I wanted it to be as in the shadows as it could possibly be.

[00:12:09] And the worst case scenario that night was a re-vote.

[00:12:13] They're like Caroline and Sue weren't going to flip and vote with TK and Kyle.

[00:12:16] That was never going to happen.

[00:12:17] So the worst case scenario was a re-vote where I play my idol and I'm safe and Tiana flips back to us because she doesn't want a one in three chance of going home.

[00:12:25] Gabe, I got a couple.

[00:12:26] And also, okay, yeah, sorry.

[00:12:27] I know that we're on short time here.

[00:12:29] Also, it's day four.

[00:12:31] I don't know these people.

[00:12:32] And you don't know where the tribal line stands until you make your vote.

[00:12:35] I also wanted a free pass to see how everybody was going to vote for the first time.

[00:12:39] That was important to me.

[00:12:40] Okay, we're going to go into the two-minute offense now, okay?

[00:12:43] All right.

[00:12:43] Let's go.

[00:12:43] So tell me that the tribal council that you went to with Tuku and Rachel, what was going to happen had Rachel not left?

[00:12:52] Rachel goes home.

[00:12:53] Okay.

[00:12:54] How are things with Tiana after the blind side of Tiana at that tribal council?

[00:13:00] Every time I've met Tiana in real life again, it's been nothing but very, very pleasant.

[00:13:04] We get along great.

[00:13:05] Okay.

[00:13:05] Have you heard from Ray Lewis since you brought his dance back to CBS television?

[00:13:13] Yeah, I got a little shout-out from Ray.

[00:13:15] Oh, nice.

[00:13:15] It was personal.

[00:13:17] It was just kind of like a thumbs-up message of just like, hey, man, love what you're doing.

[00:13:21] Like, you know, represent Baltimore.

[00:13:22] It was very short.

[00:13:23] It was very sweet, but it was cool.

[00:13:24] When you were telling Rachel that the vote was going to be for Caroline, how did you come up with that plan to tell Rachel?

[00:13:35] And did Caroline know about it?

[00:13:37] Caroline did know about it.

[00:13:38] She didn't like that it was her.

[00:13:39] But the concerns I were telling Rachel were very, very real.

[00:13:43] I was very concerned about going back to the tribe with five Tukus, but I still wanted to do it because we send Rachel home, who I perceived as a massive threat in the game.

[00:13:53] And then when we get back to camp, I can then offer up Tiana as the next vote and be the person that is perceived to break up the Tuku alliance.

[00:14:03] And so that was my game plan was get Rachel out tonight as a big threat and then cross tribal lines and offer up Tiana, who's somebody I actually really, really want out of this game.

[00:14:12] And I don't really want to be a part of this Tuku alliance.

[00:14:15] But then I'm the guy who extended an olive branch and said, I'll give you one of our own.

[00:14:20] But really, it's my biggest rival in the game.

[00:14:22] Did you know about Sue's idol?

[00:14:24] I did not.

[00:14:25] Sue told me that she promised her daughter she wouldn't tell anybody if she found an idol.

[00:14:29] And the only person in the world who could supersede her island son was her real life daughter.

[00:14:35] Okay.

[00:14:36] And then you left tribal council.

[00:14:39] You said, I'll be back.

[00:14:42] Back to Fiji?

[00:14:45] Back to Fiji.

[00:14:46] Back to Fiji to play the game and finish my unfinished business.

[00:14:51] Okay.

[00:14:52] Do you stand by that today?

[00:14:55] Oh, absolutely.

[00:14:56] Yeah.

[00:14:57] Of course I stand by it today.

[00:14:58] Absolutely.

[00:15:01] Gabe.

[00:15:02] Great job, man.

[00:15:03] Hey, appreciate you.

[00:15:04] Covered a lot of ground.

[00:15:06] Yeah.

[00:15:07] All right.

[00:15:08] Gabe, all the best to you outside the show.

[00:15:09] Okay?

[00:15:10] Hey, thank you, man.

[00:15:11] Likewise.

[00:15:11] Can't wait to talk again.

[00:15:12] All right.

[00:15:13] Looking forward to it.

[00:15:13] Take care, man.

[00:15:14] Bye.

[00:15:15] All right, everybody.

[00:15:15] There you have it, Gabe.

[00:15:17] We did cover a lot of ground.

[00:15:19] Love the two-minute offense.

[00:15:21] That was really great at the end of the interview there with Gabe.

[00:15:25] I had said that I think that Gabe is going to be a really good podcast guest because I think that, especially in the future, I feel like he's somebody who is not going to shy away from bringing hot takes to the podcast.

[00:15:39] And I think that he might go against what the conventional wisdom is on some of these things.

[00:15:45] So I think that he's going to be a very interesting person to talk to for the foreseeable future about Survivor.

[00:15:51] All right.

[00:15:52] We've got this week in Survivor history coming up with Jordan Kalish.

[00:15:55] We'll be back right after this.

[00:15:57] This episode of Rob is a Podcast is sponsored by Amazfit, makers of the T-Rex 3 smartwatch.

[00:16:04] Now, any Survivor player worth their salt is looking to up their game.

[00:16:08] And that is exactly what I have done with the T-Rex 3.

[00:16:13] You don't get to be a knowingest know-it-all without a smartwatch.

[00:16:18] And I've had some other ones.

[00:16:20] And let me say what I love the most about the T-Rex 3 is that it has a 27-day battery.

[00:16:29] Day, not hour.

[00:16:30] I'm not supposed to say this, but some of these other watches, you're lucky if you get 27 hours.

[00:16:35] 27 days, that's longer than a season of Survivor.

[00:16:39] And it tracks all these different activities, whether I'm walking, it picks it up automatically.

[00:16:45] There are things that it can track that I would never do, like skydiving or snorkeling.

[00:16:52] It's amazing all the things that it can track.

[00:16:54] Plus, it has an AI assistant that also you wear right on your wrist.

[00:16:59] And what I also love is that it looks great too.

[00:17:02] It looks like a real watch and not like I've got this black square that I'm just wearing on my wrist

[00:17:07] where I look like a child.

[00:17:08] I actually look like an adult wearing a watch.

[00:17:11] So check out the T-Rex 3 by AmazeFit at major retailers like Best Buy, Target, Walmart, or Amazon.

[00:17:18] Or get 15% off with our special code at us.amazefit.com slash rob.

[00:17:27] That's 15% off when you go to us.amazfit.com slash rob.

[00:17:35] All right, we're back for some more this week in Survivor history.

[00:17:40] Let's bring back the King of Survivor trivia.

[00:17:45] Here he is, Jordan Kalish.

[00:17:47] Jordan, how are you?

[00:17:48] I'm doing great.

[00:17:49] You don't even have to put trivia in there.

[00:17:50] Let's just call it King of Survivor at this point.

[00:17:52] The King of Survivor, Jordan Kalish.

[00:17:55] Everybody knows it.

[00:17:57] That's what everyone says.

[00:17:57] Everybody calls him KOS.

[00:17:58] That's what they're saying on the streets.

[00:18:00] Okay.

[00:18:00] All right.

[00:18:01] So we're back for another week of this week in Survivor history.

[00:18:03] All season long, I've been taking on some of the patrons who are very excited to be here

[00:18:08] to take me on in Survivor trivia.

[00:18:11] But it's been a pretty good run for me.

[00:18:13] What am I like?

[00:18:15] Seven and two?

[00:18:16] Your general manager is not getting fired.

[00:18:19] Sam Moore is safe because you're on quite the streak this season.

[00:18:25] It looks like you're going to at least get a playoff spot.

[00:18:27] Yeah, for sure.

[00:18:28] Mm-hmm.

[00:18:29] Yeah.

[00:18:29] Even in the NFC.

[00:18:30] I make the playoffs.

[00:18:32] Anyway, here with us today is August.

[00:18:36] August, how are you?

[00:18:38] Dude, I am doing amazing.

[00:18:40] I'm bewildered right now.

[00:18:41] I'm like mind blown just talking to you.

[00:18:43] I'm so excited to beat you today.

[00:18:45] I'm so excited to beat you.

[00:18:46] Is that what you said?

[00:18:48] I'm trying to get the confidence.

[00:18:49] I'm locking in.

[00:18:51] I'm getting ready to-

[00:18:52] I've never heard that before.

[00:18:53] I'm so excited to beat you.

[00:18:55] I love the trash talk.

[00:18:56] Yes.

[00:18:58] I'm competitive.

[00:18:58] I'm competitive.

[00:18:59] Yeah.

[00:18:59] I love you.

[00:19:00] You're one of my favorite survivor players of all time.

[00:19:03] Amazon's one of my favorite seasons, so I'm excited.

[00:19:05] But hey, sometimes you got to-

[00:19:06] Okay.

[00:19:06] Bring it, August.

[00:19:08] Okay.

[00:19:08] All right.

[00:19:09] August, where are you calling from?

[00:19:11] I'm from St. Louis, Missouri.

[00:19:14] And I'm in my apartment.

[00:19:16] Okay.

[00:19:16] All right.

[00:19:17] Yeah.

[00:19:17] Nobody's ever answers that question, where you're calling from, and tells me about what

[00:19:21] type of building they're in.

[00:19:24] Hey, someone's got to be a first for everything.

[00:19:26] Yeah.

[00:19:26] How many of you live from August's apartment?

[00:19:29] Yes, sir.

[00:19:30] Okay.

[00:19:30] All right.

[00:19:31] How's everything going in St. Louis these days?

[00:19:34] It's going good.

[00:19:35] It's going good.

[00:19:35] You know, it's getting a little bit chilly.

[00:19:37] Everyone's getting that holiday festivity spirit.

[00:19:40] Everyone's, you know, working overtime to get money for the Christmas presents.

[00:19:43] I'm giving everyone hugs for Christmas.

[00:19:44] So we're getting in the vibe.

[00:19:47] Okay.

[00:19:47] You still got the arch?

[00:19:48] The arch is still there?

[00:19:49] The arch is still there.

[00:19:50] Yes.

[00:19:51] I'm going to give everybody hugs for Christmas.

[00:19:52] Love the arch.

[00:19:55] Anthony, great news.

[00:19:56] I already got your Christmas gift.

[00:19:58] Woo!

[00:19:59] All right.

[00:20:01] August, you know how this game works?

[00:20:04] Yes, sir.

[00:20:05] Okay.

[00:20:05] Jordan is going to give us six different seasons.

[00:20:09] Maybe a mystery box.

[00:20:10] That's what he did last week.

[00:20:11] That's true.

[00:20:12] And we're going to talk about everything that happened in episode 10s in Survivor history.

[00:20:17] All right.

[00:20:18] Jordan, what do you have?

[00:20:20] All right.

[00:20:21] The six seasons that we're covering.

[00:20:22] No mystery box this week.

[00:20:24] I did like doing that last week.

[00:20:26] I like the question, but I went to straight seasons now.

[00:20:29] We have Borneo, Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, 41, and 46.

[00:20:38] So, as usual, two new era and four pretty old era.

[00:20:43] Okay.

[00:20:44] August, you get to choose the first season that we cover.

[00:20:47] Just to recap, that's Borneo, Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, 41, and 46.

[00:20:53] Correct?

[00:20:53] Correct.

[00:20:54] Yes.

[00:20:55] I think I'm going to go with Borneo.

[00:20:58] All right.

[00:20:59] So, we're going all the way back to Borneo.

[00:21:02] Almost nobody ever goes very old school season to start.

[00:21:06] And I think it's, well, it makes sense because his name is August.

[00:21:09] And I believe Borneo is the only season that aired episodes in the month of August.

[00:21:13] So, this makes sense.

[00:21:15] Makes sense.

[00:21:15] I think it went into probably August.

[00:21:17] I was at camp.

[00:21:18] Okay.

[00:21:19] So, while the majority of fire-making challenges in Survivor history have occurred at Tribal Council,

[00:21:24] the first one took place on the beach and served as the final seven immunity challenge.

[00:21:29] Who won this first individual fire-making challenge in Survivor Borneo?

[00:21:33] I believe that was the first winner ever, Richard Hatch.

[00:21:36] And I believe he blew the competition away.

[00:21:38] So, they say that fire represents life.

[00:21:41] He kept his life throughout the game and he did win this challenge.

[00:21:44] So, August, I'm going to do the dance that Richard did when he won after I beat you today.

[00:21:50] Ooh.

[00:21:51] Running around in a circle.

[00:21:53] Did he do the gritty, Rob?

[00:21:55] He did not do the gritty or the Ray Lewis celebration.

[00:21:59] Yeah.

[00:22:00] Yeah.

[00:22:01] That was great.

[00:22:02] I was actually watching that episode next to a big Ravens fan who was like, it's the Ray Lewis.

[00:22:08] They freaked out.

[00:22:09] They loved the Ray Lewis dance.

[00:22:11] So, okay.

[00:22:12] We have Rob.

[00:22:13] You can choose the next season.

[00:22:14] All right.

[00:22:14] I'm going to go 46.

[00:22:15] All right.

[00:22:16] 46.

[00:22:17] The alternate end of the spectrum here.

[00:22:19] When Q won the reward challenge, he first chose Tiffany and then chose Maria to join him for the Applebee's reward.

[00:22:26] Yes.

[00:22:27] Who was his third and final selection for the reward, causing Liz to totally lose it?

[00:22:35] You said you mentioned Maria and...

[00:22:38] He picked Tiffany and Maria first and second.

[00:22:41] And then he chose a third, which is what caused...

[00:22:43] Kenzie is the third person that went to Applebee's.

[00:22:45] Yes.

[00:22:46] Yes.

[00:22:46] Kenzie, they're getting the pre-merge team back together.

[00:22:49] Rob, you get two points.

[00:22:51] We are tied.

[00:22:53] August, are you going to go old again?

[00:22:55] Are you going to take our remaining new era season?

[00:22:59] I am going to go old again because I'm a big fan of Fiji, believe it or not.

[00:23:03] So I'm going to go with Fiji.

[00:23:04] Love Survivor Fiji.

[00:23:05] Which player first suggested to their alliance that they vote for Edgardo instead of Mookie or Alex, therefore neutralizing the four horsemen idol play?

[00:23:16] Whose plan was this?

[00:23:18] I believe this was...

[00:23:23] I'm trying to remember.

[00:23:24] So it wasn't Dreams because they let Dreams vote wrong just to test his loyalty.

[00:23:28] I want to say either Earl or Yao Man.

[00:23:35] I'm going to go with Yao Man.

[00:23:39] Yao Man, great strategist, but did not come up with this plan.

[00:23:44] So you were incorrect.

[00:23:45] Rob, you could steal a point here.

[00:23:46] I think it was Stacey.

[00:23:48] Stacey.

[00:23:49] Stacey Kimball, not always known for her strategic expertise, but that is the correct answer.

[00:23:54] She was...

[00:23:55] They were decided between Mookie and Edgardo.

[00:23:57] The syndicate did not know what to do.

[00:23:58] Yeah.

[00:23:58] And then Stacey comes in.

[00:23:59] Why don't we just do Edgardo?

[00:24:01] Great move.

[00:24:01] Rob, you steal a point.

[00:24:03] Tell us about your Survivor fandom because you don't seem old enough to be an OG and watch it straight through.

[00:24:10] So how'd you find the show and how'd you watch it all?

[00:24:14] Yeah.

[00:24:14] So during COVID, I started binge watching The Amazing Race.

[00:24:17] It was like the first thing my dad and I kind of connected on.

[00:24:20] And then he was like, well, if you like The Amazing Race and if you like Total Drama Island, which I did, we'd love to show called Survivor.

[00:24:26] And so I started binge watching Survivor from season one with my dad during COVID.

[00:24:31] Yeah.

[00:24:31] I was like addicted and hooked.

[00:24:32] And I've seen like every season at least twice.

[00:24:36] About two thirds of them I've seen three times and maybe like a quarter I've seen four times.

[00:24:42] I'm addicted, man.

[00:24:43] That's awesome.

[00:24:43] Is your dad an OG?

[00:24:44] Was your dad like a day one Survivor fan?

[00:24:47] Yeah, he was.

[00:24:47] He was a day one Survivor fan.

[00:24:49] And he was telling me about all the stuff he remembered, like where he was when this happened and watching it like with his buddies and stuff.

[00:24:55] And I'm like, man, this sounds cool.

[00:24:57] I want to check it out.

[00:24:57] And he stayed with it the whole way through?

[00:24:59] He kind of fell off about like after 2007 and stuff because he just got super busy with his job and stuff.

[00:25:07] But now that after COVID happened and we started watching it, he watches it every Wednesday, even if I'm not there with him.

[00:25:13] Yeah.

[00:25:13] And we'll text about it in the family group chat.

[00:25:15] Yeah, that's awesome.

[00:25:17] I mean, that's really, that's Survivor loves those stories.

[00:25:22] Yeah.

[00:25:23] I love Survivor.

[00:25:24] I keep showing all my friends it because it's a great example of like the way different people react to different things.

[00:25:30] And I just love it so much.

[00:25:32] Yeah.

[00:25:32] And August, you told me before we started recording that you're sporting a mustache today.

[00:25:36] And that's in honor of Butch Lockley.

[00:25:38] That's what you told me.

[00:25:40] So we'll go with that.

[00:25:41] We'll go with that.

[00:25:42] Actually, my.

[00:25:43] That's why Rob seems so at home right now.

[00:25:45] My mullet was inspired by a Survivor character from season 19.

[00:25:49] If you guys want to take a guess.

[00:25:52] A mulleted character from Survivor 19.

[00:25:56] Shambo.

[00:25:56] Oh, yeah.

[00:25:58] Okay.

[00:25:59] So you're bringing it all together.

[00:26:01] All right.

[00:26:01] So in honor of Shambo, I'll go with season 19.

[00:26:05] All right.

[00:26:06] Rob has taken his three to two lead to Samoa at the final 10 vote.

[00:26:12] Who flipped on the revote in order to avoid going to rocks?

[00:26:21] I'm going to say John Fincher.

[00:26:26] John Fincher is correct.

[00:26:29] Rob, you get two points.

[00:26:31] That's a total of five.

[00:26:32] You have a five to two lead.

[00:26:34] Yeah.

[00:26:35] Fincher.

[00:26:35] He ends up going in the next in the next episode, but he did potentially save himself by going out in a game of chance there.

[00:26:43] He was not stoked on some tie.

[00:26:46] No, he was not.

[00:26:47] Not stoked on time.

[00:26:48] Very good.

[00:26:49] August, you get to choose the next one.

[00:26:50] And I believe you do need to get this question right.

[00:26:54] Hey, I think you also need a deficit.

[00:26:56] People have come back from that on Twitch.

[00:26:59] People have come back from that on Twitch and in other things, too.

[00:27:04] But August, I believe you do.

[00:27:05] I think the way that the math works out, you would need to get a two pointer here.

[00:27:09] So you can go either to Cook Islands or we have the 41 question still on the board.

[00:27:16] I think I'm going to go with 41.

[00:27:19] All right.

[00:27:19] So we're going back to the new era immediately after Shan was voted out 6-0, after the initial tied three to three to two vote.

[00:27:28] Who did she say had her vote for a million dollars?

[00:27:31] So on her way out of tribal council, I think it was actually on her way to get the torch.

[00:27:36] She said, you have my vote for a million dollars.

[00:27:39] Who did she say that to?

[00:27:40] Okay.

[00:27:41] There's two people.

[00:27:42] She said two things.

[00:27:43] One, she said, you're a snake to someone.

[00:27:45] And then I believe she called Deshaun a snake.

[00:27:48] And I think she said, Ricard, you have my vote for a million dollars because Ricard was her number one and helped engineer her blindside.

[00:27:54] So I'm going to go with Ricard for yay.

[00:27:56] So August, you have my vote for two more points in this game.

[00:28:00] That is correct.

[00:28:00] You're also right about the Deshaun fact, too.

[00:28:03] She did call Deshaun a snake.

[00:28:04] So you're right back in this game.

[00:28:06] Rob, you can seal it with a correct answer here.

[00:28:10] Or if August is able to steal the point, he's going to tie it up.

[00:28:13] So the stakes are pretty high, but I like stakes.

[00:28:16] All right.

[00:28:16] We are going to Cook Islands.

[00:28:20] Cook Islands won.

[00:28:21] All right.

[00:28:21] Cook Islands.

[00:28:23] Yes.

[00:28:23] At the last tribal council before the merge, a twist sent Rebecca Borman and Jenny Guzan,

[00:28:29] I love you, Bay out of the game in back to back votes.

[00:28:32] Besides the two boots, who was the only player to have their name written down at this two for one tribal?

[00:28:38] Jeez, Louise.

[00:28:40] Well, what the hell is this?

[00:28:44] I'm going to take the multiple choice.

[00:28:46] I got nothing to lose here.

[00:28:48] Multiple choice.

[00:28:48] Yeah.

[00:28:48] This is probably the right move.

[00:28:50] Was it A, Candace?

[00:28:52] B, Nate Gonzalez?

[00:28:54] C, Parvati?

[00:28:55] D, Penner?

[00:29:01] Um, I'm going to say it was my guy, Penner.

[00:29:06] So Jonathan Penner has received a lot of votes in his survivor career.

[00:29:11] And that includes three in this double tribal council.

[00:29:14] He received one from Rebecca Borman, one from Jenny Guzan Bay.

[00:29:17] And then at the Jenny Guzan Bay vote, Nate Gonzalez voted for him.

[00:29:20] So Rob, you get the point.

[00:29:22] Six to four.

[00:29:23] That is the game.

[00:29:24] But August, you did a fantastic job.

[00:29:26] Thank you.

[00:29:26] I tried.

[00:29:27] I put up a good fight.

[00:29:28] Got close at the end.

[00:29:30] Yeah.

[00:29:31] It's okay.

[00:29:31] You win some, you lose some.

[00:29:34] Yeah.

[00:29:35] It's okay.

[00:29:36] Hey, Rob, hit the dance now.

[00:29:37] We need the dance.

[00:29:38] Oh, yeah.

[00:29:38] We need the dance.

[00:29:41] Hit the gritty.

[00:29:44] There we go.

[00:29:45] The spitting drums, baby.

[00:29:47] I almost forgot.

[00:29:50] Hey, that comes out as a win.

[00:29:51] Seeing Rob dance, that's a win in my book.

[00:29:53] Yeah.

[00:29:53] Nobody turned that into a GIF, okay?

[00:29:55] All right.

[00:29:56] It's going to become a GIF.

[00:29:57] All right.

[00:29:58] Jordan.

[00:29:58] Yeah.

[00:29:59] Isn't it that time for?

[00:30:01] It's that.

[00:30:01] It is that time, Rob.

[00:30:02] The patented verbal rebus puzzle.

[00:30:05] The verbal rebus is here.

[00:30:06] So August, even though you did not win the quiz, you still-

[00:30:08] August, do you like the verbal rebus?

[00:30:10] Is that part of the family group chat?

[00:30:11] I love the verbal rebus.

[00:30:13] The only problem is I can never get it for whatever reason.

[00:30:16] My mind doesn't work that way.

[00:30:17] So I love seeing the creativity behind it, but I just always struggle trying to figure

[00:30:21] it out.

[00:30:22] Okay.

[00:30:23] All right.

[00:30:23] August, I would kill for my mind not to work this way.

[00:30:25] I trust you.

[00:30:29] The player, this player tried to play David Wright's fake idol.

[00:30:33] Okay.

[00:30:34] Not the Met David Wright, the other David Wright.

[00:30:36] Plus, the last remaining original Samburu in Survivor Africa.

[00:30:40] The last remaining-

[00:30:43] Meaning original Samburu.

[00:30:45] Okay.

[00:30:46] Minus, Omer is obsessed with this kind of animal.

[00:30:49] Okay.

[00:30:51] Plus, the first Canadian to play Survivor.

[00:30:56] First name only.

[00:30:58] Okay.

[00:30:58] Plus, Aaron Lobdol once asked, who is this Jack Blank?

[00:31:06] All right.

[00:31:07] So who's the player who tries-

[00:31:08] I'll give you the opportunity to talk it through.

[00:31:11] Did this one make any sense to you?

[00:31:13] I got the first one.

[00:31:15] I couldn't remember.

[00:31:16] I got the second name, T-Bird, and then Bird.

[00:31:21] So T-Bird minus Bird would just be T.

[00:31:23] But the first name, I can't-

[00:31:24] Okay.

[00:31:25] So what was it again, Jordan?

[00:31:27] The player who tried to play David Wright's fake idol.

[00:31:31] J.

[00:31:31] J.

[00:31:32] So we have J, and then we have T, as you said before, August.

[00:31:35] So then we have the first Canadian to play Survivor.

[00:31:38] Maybe not the most memorable, but definitely the first.

[00:31:40] Do you know this one?

[00:31:42] I wanted to say, like, is that Tom Label?

[00:31:45] Tom Label.

[00:31:45] It's Tom.

[00:31:45] It's Tom.

[00:31:46] Very good.

[00:31:47] Plus, Aaron Lobdol once asked, who is this Jack Blank?

[00:31:51] Jackass.

[00:31:52] Yeah, Jackass.

[00:31:53] So who do we have?

[00:31:55] I had it, but I totally lost it.

[00:31:58] J.

[00:31:58] T.

[00:31:59] Oh, J.

[00:32:00] T.

[00:32:00] Tomass.

[00:32:01] J.

[00:32:02] T.

[00:32:02] Tomass.

[00:32:03] That is correct.

[00:32:04] Love when we get a little ass into the verbal rebus.

[00:32:06] Whoa.

[00:32:06] What are you, Jean Robert?

[00:32:08] Yeah.

[00:32:09] Nothing better than a verbal rebus.

[00:32:11] I almost went with the John Maverick clue for this.

[00:32:14] Yeah.

[00:32:15] All right.

[00:32:16] That was an awesome one.

[00:32:17] Okay.

[00:32:17] Thank you, August.

[00:32:18] Thank you.

[00:32:18] Well done, Jordan.

[00:32:19] August, anything you want to tell people to check out?

[00:32:23] Um, I guess if you guys want to check out my Instagram, I have a fitness oriented one called

[00:32:27] survivor fit August because, uh, survivor inspired me to get into fitness and I like

[00:32:32] inspiring others to get into fitness as well.

[00:32:33] Oh, tell me about this.

[00:32:34] How does this work?

[00:32:35] Yeah.

[00:32:36] Yeah.

[00:32:36] So I just like post like stuff on, uh, my Instagram, like, yeah, what's it called?

[00:32:40] Uh, survivor fit August.

[00:32:42] Okay.

[00:32:43] I was trying to get fit for survivor at least fit enough for survivor.

[00:32:46] So I got me on my fitness journey.

[00:32:48] It got me into Spartan races.

[00:32:49] And now I post like fitness stuff mixed in with a lot of survivor memes, like a lot of survivor

[00:32:55] memes and my thoughts on like the season currently airing.

[00:32:59] Okay.

[00:32:59] Wow.

[00:33:00] And, uh, are you applying to be on survivor?

[00:33:04] I've applied every year since 2020.

[00:33:06] I'm only 24 right now, which is coincidentally the same age JT one, you know, his season.

[00:33:12] Um, but I'm hoping one day maybe, but I'm going to keep applying until, you know, it

[00:33:16] happens.

[00:33:17] Yeah.

[00:33:17] Can you see a little, uh, little baby Andy in August?

[00:33:19] This potentially, I could see, I could see the comparison there.

[00:33:23] I think me too.

[00:33:26] My roommate and I, we are parts of the standee fan club.

[00:33:30] We stand baby Andy.

[00:33:32] We want him to win.

[00:33:33] Um, or at least we want him to get into final travel so badly.

[00:33:36] And every week we just like, we're like, come on, Andy, come on.

[00:33:39] Yeah.

[00:33:40] Okay.

[00:33:40] Yeah.

[00:33:41] Love, love the baby Andy, former, former Twitch contestant.

[00:33:43] So you could put, you could put that on your, your similarity list.

[00:33:45] Uh, and maybe one day we'll, uh, we'll see you on the shop.

[00:33:48] Okay.

[00:33:48] Maybe one day.

[00:33:49] Hey, you're so cool.
