[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_06]: But we all know that it was Jon Lovett who was the first player voted out of Survivor 47.

[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_06]: Somebody I had on my draft team and that's unfortunate for me.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_06]: The good news is, get the chance to talk to Jon about everything that we saw from the Survivor premiere.

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_06]: So that's what's coming up here in this podcast.

[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_06]: But we have Jon Lovett here on the line.

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_06]: Let's go ahead and bring in Jon.

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Hey, Jon. Good morning.

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_06]: Rob Sesternino.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_06]: I am so bummed out to have you only in our Survivor world for one exciting day, but gone too soon.

[00:03:01] [SPEAKER_06]: Gone but not forgotten.

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_06]: One day so far.

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_06]: One day so far.

[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_06]: One day so far.

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_06]: Okay, Jon, I watched the episode last night.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_06]: I felt like you're doing great.

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_06]: I really thought that you had so much going your way.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_06]: I was not feeling like that you were in danger.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_06]: And then we get to the vote and then they're all for you.

[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_06]: What happened?

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_03]: So what?

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_03]: Such an important question.

[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_03]: So I've thought about this.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_03]: And so there's after the the the immunity challenges before the challenge, after the immunity challenge.

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_03]: You think through all the different ways a challenge could go, a vote could go, relationships could go, strategy could go.

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_03]: I did not think enough about.

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe I couldn't have thought that much about what happens if somebody really loses it.

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_03]: But you used we've all seen people kind of lose it and we've all seen people turn on their alliances.

[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_03]: It's rare to put them together, rare to put them together.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe never before have anyone seen anything like that.

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And so if Andy doesn't flip out, I think there's a lot of different paths it could have gone.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_03]: And I would have, I think, been OK.

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_06]: What would have happened had you just lost the challenge in a regular fashion?

[00:04:36] [SPEAKER_03]: So obviously, it's hypothetical, but my what I had expected and hoped for is I had actually had a good relationship with Anika.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_03]: The reason the vote ends up on her is complicated.

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_03]: And there's a lot of pieces you don't see, but I had hoped and expected that Anika would have pulled in Rachel.

[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_03]: I would have pulled in Andy and that would have been a four.

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_03]: There were a few reasons for that, but there's just a natural affinity there.

[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Now, I did not see. Just how much there had been a moment where Andy had alienated Rachel a bit, but I still think there was some connection with me and Anika, we could have pulled in Rachel.

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_03]: That was a natural group. But once Andy does that.

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_03]: It really narrows the possibilities. We get back and the conversation is pretty neat and clean, which is we got to get rid of Andy.

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. But. I just didn't believe it at all.

[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Like this is what's what was frustrating about all of this is it's not like I went into this with any kind of unawareness that I really was.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_03]: I felt like I understood what was going on. We got that. We get that.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_06]: You know, you took this very seriously and you did a ton of research to get to this point.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_06]: So when you have that conversation with the three women and they're telling you, OK, it's Andy and you're not buying it.

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_06]: Do you feel like that, knowing what you know now, that they were being straight with you or do you feel like that you putting the Anika name out there ultimately got it back to you?

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_03]: No, I feel very confident.

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_03]: That what I was sensing was true.

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_03]: That I feel very confident that what I was sensing was true, that the vote was on me and it was to tell Andy it was me.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Tell me it was Andy. Try to get me to not play the shot in the dark. I was a threat and he was not.

[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_03]: And the challenge I had. Right. And the reason I ultimately tried to pull in really was Andy, because I do think he actually was uncertain, even though it was obvious to me that he was safe.

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_03]: That that because Anika's name had been floated before to try to get the vote on Anika, because basically how do you persuade a group of people to vote for Andy when they're already telling you the vote is Andy?

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. Like that's such a strange like, hey, like it's I think pretty clear to all of us we need to vote Andy. We all agree.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_03]: Shit. Like I don't I like and there was moments I had a pretty direct conversation with Rachel about this, which is like, Rachel, I understand you're telling me that it's Andy and I understand why you're doing that.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_03]: I'm asking, can we please get a group together right now and have a serious conversation about why it actually should be right?

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I was there was a there's a bunch of different things I was trying. It was basically as we headed into tribal, I was like, do I play the shot in the dark if I don't have a regret about it?

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_03]: But I do think it would have been really funny. And I thought about doing this before I went up and voted, dumping my bag out and taking out the shot in the dark in front of everybody and going and playing it.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_03]: But that is how sure I basically felt like it wasn't whether or not the vote was on me. It was what do I think is more likely a one in six chance with a shot in the dark or the chances that I've actually pulled off getting the vote off of me?

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_03]: And I really felt like it was a wash, like a one in six in both directions. Like I had a small chance in both directions and I decided I'd rather go out voting than not voting.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_06]: Sure. So we saw you doing your best to try to connect with the group. Do you feel like that you made strides in connecting with them?

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes. You know, it's such a short period of time and like you're thinking, like, have I built enough with this group of people? Have I not?

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I obviously would have liked more time, but like. I don't think this was like a social. And I'm really trying to be honest about it, like this wasn't a social issue that played out right.

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I think everybody like and you saw Andy kind of basically flip out and be like, oh, people like John, they don't like me.

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_03]: People everyone likes each other. Like that really was the feeling. And so I really do think it was much more of well, John's clearly a threat.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Andy no longer is. Maybe he's a little stronger in challenges, maybe not. But this guy needs us now. He's just imploded in front of everybody.

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_06]: Can you size up the rest of this group? I think we got a pretty clear picture about Andy and where he's at from the episode. But could you tell us your perception of the rest of this group?

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_03]: No, no, I can't. No, I don't. I don't. I don't. Look, I you know, I've got to be I'm going to be good.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_06]: Rob, there's so much I could tell you. Yeah, there's so much to come. No doubt. Yeah. OK, we'll keep watching. We were on the fence.

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_03]: Listen. If people feel so broken hearted about my absence that they're going to know, I'm kidding.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_06]: Everybody should keep watching. It's a great it's there's there's a lot to come. You said your friends and family are going to let you have it over this.

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_06]: What's been the response to you being the first out? I'll tell you, like.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_03]: I was bummed about being the first out, and there was, I think, the real reason and the kind of shallow reason.

[00:10:34] [SPEAKER_03]: The real reason is I wanted to play more and I felt like I had a lot more to buy.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I just this was an unusual, unprecedented situation.

[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_03]: And so, like, I feel bummed about that. The shallow reason was like, oh, everybody's going to see this.

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, you know, I've you know, you've been through this. You're basically putting on my Google calendar.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Everyone's going to make fun of you on this day. Like, that's a strange thing to see coming up.

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_03]: But actually, like I thought people would be a little bit meaner.

[00:11:00] [SPEAKER_06]: But what we were going to say, that's every day for me, John.

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's everything. That's everything. But so I actually like I both like publicly and like from friends and family.

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody's pretty mad. I like I've been genuinely surprised by just how much the reaction is sort of like this is bullshit.

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_03]: Like what this that we wanted more. And also like this was such a strange situation.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_03]: Sort of didn't get the full experience. So I look, I get the right balance of people mad on my behalf and mocking me for my friends and family.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, there was a lot of interest from people who are fans of your work.

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_06]: And I would like to add that love it or leave it very fun.

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_06]: Listen for me on the weekend to the live show.

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_06]: And I think people are really bummed out that they we don't get to get your survivor takes anymore.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_06]: You watch the whole show in private, didn't tell anybody we get you for one night and then that's it.

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_06]: Are you done talking about Survivor?

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_06]: No, now I'm in it. Now I'm in it, Rob.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_03]: And like I I feel like so I had watched and not told everybody that I was catching up because I didn't want to be spoiled.

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_03]: But now now I'm in it. Now I'm caught up. Now I can talk about it.

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_03]: And like I love talking about Survivor. I love getting to do Survivor.

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Like I don't have any regrets about it. It was like a fascinating, rewarding experience.

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_03]: And by the way, like and I obviously can't go into it, but like.

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Ponderosa like when people get voted off Survivor, myself included, you figure out the story you tell not just the world, but the one you tell yourself about what happened.

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. And you start figuring out the little pieces of the narrative you like that make you feel better and the ones you kind of cast aside.

[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_03]: But when people get voted off for that first couple of hours, they are so raw and they have so much information and they're just spilling about what happened.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. And I learned more about Survivor from each player as they were voted off than I did in watching or even being a part of it.

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I sincerely like you learn so much in those moments before people have figured out how they're going to talk about it.

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_03]: They just lay it all out there. And so that did leave me did leave me wanting more.

[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_03]: I will say now, would you do it again? Would you do it again, Rob?

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_06]: The answer is yes. OK, all right. You could answer. You would have asked. You could answer for both of us.

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_06]: I like I would. But how many how many, you know, 40 something white podcasters can they have, John?

[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, they can have, I think, two. OK, all right. But oh, no, I would.

[00:13:43] [SPEAKER_03]: I love getting to do it. I don't care that like, oh, I have a first boot.

[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_03]: Obviously not ideal. Like I wanted to play more. I had more that I could do and I was excited about all the different parts of it.

[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_03]: So like obviously I went to play Survivor. I would like to play more. Yeah.

[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, John, what could you tell us about the whole situation with Andy watching it play out in real time?

[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_06]: We get a version on television. But what was it like in the real time for you?

[00:14:16] [SPEAKER_03]: It was confusing. It was it was confusing. It was just confusing.

[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Like in the moment while we're standing there on the mat, it's like.

[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_03]: You're like, is this real, is this maneuvering, is it a is it a paranoia, is it a combination of both?

[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_03]: It's hard to know what to believe. Like you can't.

[00:14:40] [SPEAKER_03]: And like you are like, is this it? First of all, like I could vaguely you see it in the thing.

[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I say something like, is he I think he's all right. Like I like because I was I could hear a little bit of the conversation that was happening around him.

[00:14:52] [SPEAKER_03]: And I was hearing like. Dr. Joe being like, you're OK, you're just hot or overheating, you're fine.

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: You like, you know, you just just just like take him. Like so it was very clear pretty quickly that he's like fine.

[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_03]: And so then you're thinking like, is he just trying to stop the challenge?

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Is he trying to like is this is this like what's happening? Right.

[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And then he throws my name out there and it's like. Like, again, like, is this a move?

[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_03]: I guess like he says it isn't OK.

[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_03]: And like, you know, you're watching something unfold like you're like, oh, someone's like really breaking down in front of you.

[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_03]: Like how do you react to that? I don't know. I don't know.

[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_06]: I thought you handled that incredibly well when he threw your name out there.

[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_06]: I thought you your answer in the moment was was really, really great.

[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_03]: Well, all I was trying to do. All I was trying to do is get out of this with some optionality.

[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. Like because what there's I thought about I was like I could hit him back or be angry at him or deny it.

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_03]: I can make this more of a thing. But really, all I was thinking is like I need to get out of this with Andy not thinking he's lost me.

[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. So that if I need to go back to him, I can still do that while at the same time trying to like keep myself aligned with the rest of the group.

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Right. Like it was a very delicate and confusing thing.

[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. Now, John, your appeal to swing voters on the Gata tribe may have fallen on deaf ears.

[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_06]: But is there anything that you would want to direct the attention to of any potential American swing voters?

[00:16:33] [SPEAKER_03]: Yes. Hey, listen, you see what happens when a vote doesn't go your way.

[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_03]: I will be doing an insurrection in episode two, which you can all look forward to.

[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_03]: We have less than seven weeks until the election.

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_03]: Everybody go to vote. This is a show about voting to show about important.

[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_03]: Your vote is go to vote. Save America dot com. Sign up. Make sure you're registered.

[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_03]: Make sure your friends and family are registered and then do one more thing than you otherwise would have done.

[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_03]: One volunteer shift, one one small donation.

[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Voting America will show you the best ways to help the most effective ways to help.

[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_03]: Please, please, please do me a favor and go.

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_06]: Shouldn't they have put you on the blue tribe? Wouldn't that have made sense?

[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sure. Anywhere but where I was. It couldn't have got. Hey, Rob, couldn't have gone worse.

[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. John, I'm very bummed out to lose you this soon, but we'll be following for more survivor takes.

[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_06]: And please, more Alison Reese. OK?

[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely. Absolutely. OK. Yeah.

[00:17:36] [SPEAKER_03]: By the way, if you if you if you wish you had more of me, you get plenty of me at Pots.

[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_03]: Save America and love it or leave it. Yep. OK. All right.

[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_06]: I think that you must have had like a huge you being on Survivor was a huge bump for the show because it seems like it's doing great.

[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_06]: A lot of interest from the summer.

[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that that's I agree, Rob. I agree.

[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_03]: And you know what? I think that's something that everybody should keep in mind over there.

[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_03]: All right, Jeff, you hear that? You hear that? You hear what Rob said?

[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_06]: I know you need to run. All right. Thanks so much, John. Take care. Thanks, Rob.

[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_06]: All right, everybody. There you have it. There's John Lovett on the podcast.

[00:18:11] [SPEAKER_06]: You know, boy, John does seems like he's more into Survivor after all this.

[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_06]: You definitely could have seen a scenario where he's like, like, what the hell?

[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_06]: I didn't need this aggravation. I come out here to do this show.

[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_06]: They get rid of me like to hell with Survivor.

[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_06]: But that does not seem like that is where John's head is at moving forward.

[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_06]: So we'll see what else he may have to say.

[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_06]: Very interesting. He was like conducting like exit interviews with the players who come out promises a lot more excitement along the way.

[00:18:47] [SPEAKER_06]: I didn't get that much more about the dynamic of the Gatta tribe, but I guess we'll have to just keep watching.

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_06]: I won't keep while I won't. I'm not going to quit the show.

[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to keep going and we're going to keep going with a little of this week in Survivor history.

[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_06]: We've got a new twist on the old game coming up when we come back right after this.

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Survivor 47 is here, which means we're bringing you a brand new season of the only official Survivor podcast on fire.

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_04]: And this season we are joined by fan favorite and Survivor 46 runner up Charlie Davis to bring you even further inside the action.

[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_04]: Charlie, I'm excited to do this together. Thanks, Jeff.

[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_02]: So excited to be here and I can't wait to bring you inside the mind of a Survivor player for season 47.

[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Listen to on fire the official Survivor podcast wherever you get your podcast.

[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_06]: All right. We're back with another season of Twish this week in Survivor history.

[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_06]: It's Jordan Kalish. Jordan, how are you?

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm doing great, Rob. Yes, it has. It has been a long time.

[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_05]: I feel like when we started this podcast, I was I was just a guy on the Internet writing poorly worded trivia questions and teaching and coaching.

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_05]: So look, look where I've come. Look how far I've come. I've gotten so far.

[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Nice to hear your voice, Jordan. How was your summer?

[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_05]: Summer was fantastic. I would say, Rob, the best, best summer of my life.

[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Why? Yes, I because I stayed inside and watched Big Brother live feeds.

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_06]: No, stop it. You never watched a second of Big Brother live feeds in your life.

[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_05]: So I went to I went to Europe, Rob. I've had this idea in my head for a long time where I wanted to do a long trip to Europe.

[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm a teacher, so I'm off during the summer. So I took the episode. Yeah.

[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_05]: So I took five weeks and I went all over Europe. I had a great time, went with some friends.

[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_05]: And it was really incredible. I think if you ever have the opportunity to do something like this, you know, you're never going to get leave the country for five weeks.

[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_06]: You say that's a good let me make a note of that. I'll try that.

[00:21:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Leave for five weeks, come back and you won't be a whole different person.

[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm the same person. I don't think I grew in any way, but I did have a good time.

[00:21:13] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, I heard it could be life changing. OK, anyway, Jordan, we have something big planned this season because last season I took on the Survivors.

[00:21:23] [SPEAKER_06]: You know what? I don't remember how it went. I'm sure it was fine.

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_06]: But this season I said, what if we got to hear from our amazing Robins of Podcast patrons and we asked them to make a video apply today?

[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_06]: If you're up for the challenge of taking me on in this week in Survivor history.

[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_06]: And so each week we will hear from one of our patrons who, of course, patrons the heartbeat of Robins of Podcast.

[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_06]: Amazing supporters of all of the nonsense. And each week we ask them to make a video application and they have done so.

[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_06]: We will share the video and then hear from our combatant here to take me on this week in Survivor history.

[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_06]: It's Lila. Lila, how are you?

[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing so good. How? I'm so excited to be here.

[00:22:18] [SPEAKER_06]: So excited to have you here. We saw your video and thought you'd be great for Twish.

[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_06]: But if anybody missed it, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I'm Lila. I'm 21 years old, so I think I might be your youngest trivia opponent.

[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_06]: You're younger than Survivor.

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. I think I was born in between the Amazon and Pearl Islands.

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, my God. You weren't even alive when I was on Survivor?

[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I was not.

[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_06]: This will be embarrassing.

[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_06]: Do you know about Butch? Do you know about Butch?

[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I've seen it. It was just not at the time of airing.

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_06]: You love Butch.

[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_06]: All right. Lila, you go to University of Michigan, which has some storied Survivor fan history.

[00:23:14] [SPEAKER_06]: Has it?

[00:23:16] [SPEAKER_06]: That's what I've heard.

[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_01]: OK. Well, it's great. Great school.

[00:23:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I know we've had a big brother alumni in Claire.

[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_06]: Yes.

[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's great school. I'm not from Michigan, though. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio.

[00:23:32] [SPEAKER_06]: Oh, OK. All right.

[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I get a lot of hate from my fellow Ohioans for being a traitor and going to Michigan.

[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_06]: OK. All right. Well, do you know the rules of Twish?

[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_06]: Because I was hoping you would tell me what they are.

[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Do I know the rules of Twish?

[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_01]: My understanding is Jordan's going to ask us some questions and hopefully I get them right.

[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_06]: We hope so. OK, Jordan, explain. What are the rules? Because they're always changing.

[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_06]: So what are the rules of Twish this season?

[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Here's the good news. This might be the first time ever in the history of this podcast where we're using the same rules in back to back seasons.

[00:24:09] [SPEAKER_05]: So I have six questions. Lila, as the guest, I will give you the seasons that the questions are from.

[00:24:17] [SPEAKER_05]: Lila, as the guest, will get to choose her season first. She will get to answer the question.

[00:24:21] [SPEAKER_05]: If she's right, she gets two points. If she's wrong, Rob, you would get to steal from one point.

[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_05]: And then, Rob, you would choose the second season and we would alternate throughout the quiz.

[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_05]: If there's a tie at the end, we would have a tiebreaker.

[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_05]: And I do actually, this is rare, I have a tiebreaker prepared just in case.

[00:24:36] [SPEAKER_06]: OK. All right. So let's hear the seasons you've written questions about.

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_05]: OK. We have Survivor Africa, Palau, Kagean, 44, 46 making its Twish debut.

[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_05]: And then we have a mystery box question, which I can't tell you the season because it would give it away.

[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_05]: So there's one question for each season.

[00:24:57] [SPEAKER_05]: There is one question for each season. So once a category is chosen, it can't be chosen again.

[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_05]: All right. You just give us those seasons one more time. Africa.

[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Africa, Palau, Kagean, 44, 46 and mystery box.

[00:25:11] [SPEAKER_06]: 44, 46 and mystery box. OK.

[00:25:13] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes. So Lila, as the guest, you get to choose first and you'll get the first crack of the question for two points.

[00:25:20] [SPEAKER_01]: OK. Well, Kagean was the first season I ever watched. So I'm going to go with that one.

[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_05]: And now these are all questions about the premiere.

[00:25:28] [SPEAKER_05]: These are yes. That is another part of the rules. These are all about the premiere.

[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_05]: We used to do the calendar. We used to worry only about the calendar.

[00:25:36] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes. No, we're not doing the calendar. It doesn't matter if it's a fall or spring season.

[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, it is. We have. I make my own rules on this podcast and this is one of them.

[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_05]: We're on. We're on Kalish time. And so it does not matter when it aired, but it does matter that it's a premiere.

[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_05]: These are all premieres. OK, got it. So you chose Kagean.

[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_05]: So here's the Kagean question. In the opening of Survivor Kagean, the two out of the three players designated as the weakest member of their tribe

[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_05]: chose an idle clue over an extra bag of rice.

[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_05]: Who was the only player to choose the rice instead of the idle clue?

[00:26:14] [SPEAKER_01]: OK. I know some people are like out loud thinkers, but I feel like I need to internalize my thoughts here.

[00:26:22] [SPEAKER_06]: Just to reset the rules. OK, so Lila can get the question and jump in for two points or ask you for the multiple choices and answer for one point.

[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_05]: No, there's no multiple choice.

[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_05]: There's no multiple choice.

[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we're doing what we did last year. So there's no multiple choice option if you get it wrong.

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_06]: Could have sworn there was multiple choice last season.

[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_05]: I was looking at my questions. I don't think there were maybe, but there's no multiple choice.

[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Maybe that wasn't a thing.

[00:26:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Who knows? Who could remember that far back?

[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_06]: Yeah. OK. So if she gets it, it's two points or one?

[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_05]: If Lila gets it, it's two points. If Rob, if she were to get it wrong and you were to get it right, you could steal it for one and it would still be your turn for the next question.

[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_05]: And it's the person who took rice.

[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_05]: It's the person who took who took the extra bag of rice and did not get the item.

[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, I'm going to say Trish.

[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_01]: That's my final answer.

[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_05]: Trish Hegarty is correct.

[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_05]: LJ and Morgan took the item clue. LJ did find the item. Morgan did not.

[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_05]: And Trish stole that Lila.

[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_05]: So it's good you got it right.

[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_05]: I got it.

[00:27:32] [SPEAKER_05]: That's a three point swing right there.

[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_05]: The fact that you knew the answer to that question. So very good start. Lila clearly knows her stuff, even though when you were watching the season, who knows how old you were watching the season.

[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_05]: But Rob, it is time.

[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_06]: Lila, what are you studying at the University of Michigan?

[00:27:51] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, it has a fun name. It's biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience.

[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, and what a lot of words.

[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_06]: What does somebody with that degree like?

[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_06]: What is a job that you might have in that field?

[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people might go to med school and be like a psychologist or neuroscientist.

[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of thinking going into research.

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I would consider it.

[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think I'm going to go into research specifically.

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: This is so unique, but dog cognition.

[00:28:26] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, so like.

[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_06]: Shouting all the dogs in the podcast.

[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_06]: At the crib. Dogs in the crib.

[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_05]: OK.

[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that's what we'll see what happens.

[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_05]: You could go to the Eddie Fox dog bar and figure out what all these dogs are thinking at the bar and know which ones are hanging out with the other dogs.

[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_05]: Get all the social dynamics of these dogs at the Eddie Fox bar.

[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, let's test my memory.

[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_06]: Let's go to Survivor 46.

[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, we are going to 46 last season.

[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_05]: Jalinski famously lost his vote at the journey during the premiere.

[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Which other two players were with Jalinski and gained an extra vote due to their performance in the card game?

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, well, I'm old enough to remember last season and it was Tevin and Maria.

[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_05]: Tevin and Maria are correct.

[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I had to get a Jalinski question because unfortunately it was the only opportunity of the season to get Jalinski in here.

[00:29:19] [SPEAKER_05]: So Rob, you get two points.

[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_05]: That is correct. Maria and Tevin won the card game.

[00:29:25] [SPEAKER_05]: We are tied two to two.

[00:29:27] [SPEAKER_05]: And Lila, you get to choose the next category.

[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, so what's left?

[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Africa, Palau 44 and Mystery Box.

[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to go Mystery Box.

[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, so this one, you'll see why I couldn't tell you the season.

[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_05]: What are the only two seasons in Survivor history to begin the game via a schoolyard pick in which the captains were selected due to being the oldest two players in the game?

[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, I know that Gabon is one of them.

[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And OK, wait.

[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_05]: You need to get two for a correct answer.

[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, so maybe I should have said that one in case I don't get the other one.

[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Then Rob can steal it.

[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: OK, I'm going to say Palau.

[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_05]: So Palau and Gabon, you are incorrect.

[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Rob, for one point, you can steal.

[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to say Gabon and Thailand.

[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Gabon and Thailand is correct.

[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_05]: Rob, you get to steal the point there.

[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_05]: You're up three to two in Survivor Thailand.

[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Famously, Jan and Jake, Jake the Snake, got to draft those seasons.

[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_05]: And you were of course correct about Gabon.

[00:31:06] [SPEAKER_05]: It was Bob and it was a friend of the podcast.

[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Wait, what's her name again?

[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_05]: British lady.

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Jillian.

[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_05]: Jillian, Jillian.

[00:31:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I couldn't think of it.

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_05]: Not remembering me.

[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_05]: My brain has turned to elephant tongue.

[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_06]: All right.

[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, so Josh Wiggler just watched season 44 this past week.

[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_06]: I will follow suit.

[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_05]: All right, so 44, we're going with Wiggler here.

[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_05]: Which player received the bank your vote advantage at the journey,

[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_05]: allowing them to not vote at a tribal in order to earn an extra vote at a future tribal?

[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_05]: Bank your vote.

[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Who got the bank your vote?

[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_06]: Bank your vote.

[00:31:54] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, so I know she had an extra vote.

[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_06]: Is that how she got it?

[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_06]: I think I forgot the part that she had to bank it to get it.

[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to say Lauren.

[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Lauren Harp is correct.

[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_05]: So she did end up giving this the extra vote to Jamie, who played it when he went home.

[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_06]: I just forgot the part that she had to bank her vote to get.

[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_06]: I knew she had an extra vote for quite some time.

[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_05]: She banks her vote on the first vote of the game when Maddie unfortunately went home.

[00:32:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Friend of the podcast.

[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_05]: So it is Lila, your turn.

[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_05]: You have either Africa or Palau.

[00:32:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to go Palau.

[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, we're going to Palau.

[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_05]: You did bring up the season before.

[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, now it's 3-1 right now that Lila needs to...

[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_06]: It's 5-2.

[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_06]: 5-2.

[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_05]: That was some Kalish math.

[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_05]: Actually, no, the difference is three.

[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_05]: It is 5-2 and you're going to Palau.

[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_05]: Which two players won individual immunity necklaces on day one,

[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_05]: which allowed them to be immune from the schoolyard pick style elimination?

[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be honest. I don't know this one.

[00:33:14] [SPEAKER_05]: All right.

[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_01]: This is so upsetting.

[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_05]: I think you do need to have a chance.

[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_05]: You do need two points.

[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_05]: If you don't get this right, Rob is going to win the quiz.

[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_05]: So I would guess it's two players.

[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_05]: The actual schoolyard pick was on day two.

[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_05]: But the first challenge, which the immunity necklaces were won,

[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_05]: were on day one.

[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_05]: Who were the two people that got to those immunity necklaces?

[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_01]: All right. We're just going to throw out some names here

[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and say Tom and Ian.

[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.

[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I know that's not right.

[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_05]: Incorrect. Good guesses.

[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_05]: Two players that are very good at challenges.

[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_05]: Rob, you get to steal.

[00:34:03] [SPEAKER_06]: I don't know this for sure.

[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_06]: I feel like that Jolanda was one of them

[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_06]: and I'll say Ian was the other.

[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_05]: It was Jolanda and Ian.

[00:34:12] [SPEAKER_05]: So Rob, you get to steal a point there.

[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_05]: I think maybe the only player in Survivor history

[00:34:16] [SPEAKER_05]: who won the first individual immunity challenge

[00:34:18] [SPEAKER_05]: but still got voted out in the premiere.

[00:34:21] [SPEAKER_05]: So Jolanda and Ian are correct.

[00:34:23] [SPEAKER_05]: They got to be the captains of those tribes.

[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_05]: So we do have one more question.

[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_05]: Unfortunately, Lila, you are out of contention,

[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_05]: but we're going to go to Africa.

[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_05]: And this is going to be, I guess it's actually Rob's question.

[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_05]: So Rob, you could pile on the score here.

[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_05]: On the hike to the Buran camp at the beginning of the game,

[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_05]: who took the map and led their tribe in the wrong direction?

[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_06]: Now, Lila, I know you weren't even born when this happened.

[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_06]: Do you know what the answer is?

[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I do not, honestly.

[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you go for it.

[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_05]: I believe this was Diane.

[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_05]: First boot, Diane Ogden.

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, that is correct.

[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_05]: Rob, you're going to get two points there.

[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_05]: You're going to finish with an eight to two win.

[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_05]: So Diane Ogden, I will say, was my Survivor Africa winner pick.

[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_05]: So I was kind of disappointed when she had such a rough first episode.

[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_06]: What was it that you saw, Jordan?

[00:35:17] [SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I was 11, so I probably wasn't really paying that much attention.

[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_05]: And I think I remember that she was like the only player from Nebraska.

[00:35:27] [SPEAKER_05]: And I thought that was interesting.

[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_05]: I think that was my reasoning there.

[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_05]: It was not a great winner pick, but she seems like a nice lady.

[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_06]: All right. Well, speaking of a neat lady, Lila,

[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_06]: thank you for coming in and becoming a pioneer

[00:35:42] [SPEAKER_06]: to be the first person to make a video to apply to be on Twitch.

[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_06]: And now you get the chance to also, just like on Survivor,

[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_06]: when you get voted out, you can give us your final words.

[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_06]: OK?

[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I did not come in expecting to win, honestly,

[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm glad I got this one right.

[00:36:02] [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, last I did watch your trivia's last year.

[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, a lot of the Survivor players were kind of kicking your ass.

[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_01]: So I guess it's good that you got a lower opponent today.

[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_06]: Not lower, not lower. OK?

[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_06]: Just different. Yeah.

[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_05]: There's room for growth for sure.

[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_05]: But that's what life is about.

[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_05]: And you know what, Lila, we're not done here because Rob,

[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_06]: I forgot about this, your favorite segment,

[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_05]: verbal rebus, not just on Twitch,

[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_05]: your favorite segment on Rob has a podcast.

[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_05]: We have the verbal rebus.

[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_05]: So let's see if we can get this one.

[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Got to get my pen. OK, yeah.

[00:36:44] [SPEAKER_05]: You got to get your notes ready for this.

[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_05]: Got to prepare. All right.

[00:36:49] [SPEAKER_05]: This mayo jar.

[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_05]: Get it together, man.

[00:36:52] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I just had just had lunch.

[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_05]: We're at my school lunch break right now.

[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_05]: I'm in a school office.

[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_06]: Will Lewis gave us too much of a scare to talk about the mayo jar this soon.

[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, not that kind of mayo.

[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_05]: But this mayo jar was the first player voted out after the Korong merge.

[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Voted out.

[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_05]: Plus Beast Mode Cowboy and JT were placed by Angie Kanz into the good blank archetype.

[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_05]: The good blank boy archetype.

[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_05]: Sorry. OK.

[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, so we have we have that.

[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_05]: I actually had to contact Angie to see if she could give me some examples of this category.

[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_05]: So I was correct.

[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_06]: OK, you have recordings of all those podcasts.

[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but they're like they're like an hour and a half.

[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_05]: And I tried to find a list.

[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_05]: I thought there was a spreadsheet somewhere.

[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_05]: I couldn't find it.

[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_05]: Plus Missy and Baylor just showed up on this season on the season of San Juan blank, sir.

[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_05]: Plus the last name of South Pacific's seventh placer.

[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_05]: So they're all pluses.

[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_05]: OK, so who's who's the mayo jar that got voted out?

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_05]: Nick, it is Nick Beast Mode Cowboy and JT were in the good blank boy archetype.

[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_05]: But what is the good?

[00:38:05] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, good old boy.

[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_05]: Plus Missy and Baylor just showed up on San Juan blank, sir.

[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_05]: Del Del.

[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_05]: So we have Nick Goldell and then plus the last name of South Pacific seventh placer.

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_05]: So I think it's Cochran.

[00:38:20] [SPEAKER_05]: Technically, because of Redemption Island, it's it's it's not Cochran.

[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking Cochran to old Del Cochran.

[00:38:31] [SPEAKER_05]: Nicole Del Cochran.

[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_05]: Yes, she was in the ma and Nicole Delma.

[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_05]: It is. It is. Yes, because Ozzie came back into the game.

[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_05]: She she technically becomes seventh place.

[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_05]: Yeah. So yeah.

[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_05]: So Nicole Delma, Rob, your wife, the first food of survivor of Survivor Pearl

[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_05]: Islands. We've done it again.

[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_06]: Lila, what should we keep the verbal rebus going?

[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_06]: I've tried to cancel it. People people like protests when I when I don't put one in.

[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_06]: Have you have you seen any campus protests about the verbal rebus?

[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_01]: No, not about the verbal rebus.

[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_01]: It hasn't spread up north to Michigan yet.

[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_05]: Keep you posted. OK. All right.

[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_05]: Well, we'll let you know when that when that happens.
