[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_07]: biased version of Chappelle.

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_07]: But also, I didn't realize watching it that I would be in turmoil.

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_07]: And I know I'm speaking for myself.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_07]: The people in the chat, the listeners, I know y'all are probably well adjusted and don't

[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_07]: have to do these things that could separate reality from reality TV.

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_07]: And so I went in thinking-

[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_07]: And then she will win a million dollars and then I can be happy.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_07]: But within minutes, Rob, I mean, boom, we're talking about, oh, their tribe is losing

[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_07]: and someone needs to go to a journey with someone else and compete for stuff.

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_07]: And then it's Asia.

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_07]: And then she's supposed to forge her own path, but she forgets to forge her own path, Rob.

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_07]: Rushing to the ocean and then I'm like, get up Asia, punch her.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_07]: And I was like, okay, calm down, calm down.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_07]: It's okay, you cannot fight him.

[00:05:38] [SPEAKER_07]: I was sending the spirit of Nyanka to Asia.

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_07]: I was like, snatch that thing out of his hand.

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_07]: You know, what happened to break her arm?

[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_07]: Remember those days?

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_07]: That's the survivor I love.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_07]: I was like, Asia, do something, kill him.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_07]: And so I had to really just reel it in, reel it in and breathe.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_07]: And thank God for Teenie being there to talk me off the ledge.

[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_07]: It got real.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_07]: So Survivor famously has been said, Survivor is not fun.

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_07]: And now I'm starting to experience that as a person who has not played Survivor,

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_07]: but is really watching this one too close for comfort.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_03]: Chappelle, this wasn't even a bad episode for Asia.

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_03]: This was a great night.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_07]: Awful, awful, awful.

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_07]: The first 35 minutes, I'm like, what are you doing?

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_07]: What's happening? Why are we doing this?

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_07]: What are these things?

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_07]: Like every time, I remember the first commercial break so vividly when Rome was like,

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_07]: yeah, that was a big mistake.

[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_07]: And I was like, Rome, I trusted you.

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_07]: I was a fan of his preseason.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_07]: I didn't draft him because I was saving my spot for Asia and I had plans.

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_07]: But don't make no mistake.

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_07]: Had I drafted this man, I'd be willing to forfeit the draft to make sure he doesn't win

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_07]: because you can't say Asia's name and think I'm going to be okay with it.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_07]: I thought I was a fan.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_07]: You could be wrong.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_07]: You could think you like somebody and you could be wrong, Rob.

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_03]: How surprised were you that Asia went to go and try to win the tribe tools for her camp?

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_07]: What did we rehearse?

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_07]: But if you watch that scene closely, Asia literally looks at her tribe.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_07]: She looks at the men on her tribe, Rome, Kishan.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_07]: She looks them dead in the eye and says, do you want to go?

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_07]: And they go, no.

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_07]: And so she's like, listen, me being Asia, Asia Welsh, Asia guns, Asia calves.

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_07]: She's like, I got it.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_07]: I'll be the one to take on the six foot five football player across the way.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_07]: And so she took one for the team.

[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_07]: And I really think that's why they welcomed her back in with open arms.

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_07]: That and Tini, of course, stumping for her.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_07]: But if nobody else wants to do it and Jeff needs a volunteer, you're either going to

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_07]: roshambo it or somebody's going to volunteer.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_07]: And they just said, listen, you men don't want to step up.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_07]: And so I have to commend her for being able to do that.

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And then we hear TK say that, well, I just needed to forge a path out of the jungle.

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_07]: But he just barreled his way back down to the beach where Asia was literally looking for a path.

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_07]: She said she was ready to forge her own path, Rob.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_07]: And now I'm concerned.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_07]: Is she ready to forge her own path?

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_07]: I think at that point my stomach was in my ass.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_07]: It got to the point where I really thought things were going to be really bad for Asia

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_07]: coming out the gate.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_07]: She turned it around, but I was nervous.

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_03]: Now, do you feel like that going into next week, you think you're going to be in a better

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_03]: position to be able to, now that you've had a week under your belt?

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_07]: No.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_07]: What?

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, unless Asia comes in and we get nothing but glowing reviews from all of her castmates

[00:10:38] [SPEAKER_07]: I need all the good things because I am not okay.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_07]: This would be me every day this summer, like every day, 24 hours a day.

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_07]: So I'm hoping that I've had a week.

[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_03]: It's like, oh, this is Drew Barrymore movie and it gets killed in the first scene.

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_07]: It's one of the scenes that people talk about the most from the Scream franchise initially.

[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_07]: I want to be able to make a fire. I want to be able to open coconut. I want to be able to fish. I want to eat food, blah, blah.

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_07]: And one of the things on the checklist is definitely open a coconut. He gets the machete, he opens a coconut for what I have to assume is probably the first time he's ever done that on an island in Fiji.

[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_07]: And people are cheering. And as they're cheering, Andy's planning his demise. You know? So it's like, dang, you know, grand opening, grand closing.

[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, grand opening indeed. OK. So we got AOC that said shine too bright, too early, been there. They did you dirty, Jon.

[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_07]: They done dirty. Yeah, I feel like they messed this up too. And maybe it's because Jon misrepresented how famous he was or, you know, they didn't give him a chance to really open up about that kind of thing.

[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_03]: I kept trying different things. I would wear Grateful Dead t-shirts to pretend I was a stoner. I'm not afraid of weed.

[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_03]: All right. So Andy wants to meet up with Rachel.

[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_03]: And he talks to Rachel is a good, a good thing going with Rachel.

[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_03]: And then says to her, hey, all right, we could get up early and talk.

[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_03]: Rachel said, I don't think so. I'm going to pass on that.

[00:41:49] [SPEAKER_03]: You could miss me with that invitation.

[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_07]: And he said, okay, I'm going to ignore you.

[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_07]: And so he woke up early in the morning and was like, all right, in the middle of the night, basically, it was like, all right, Rachel, remember that thing I told you I wasn't going to do?

[00:42:01] [SPEAKER_07]: We have to do that now because he's getting some bad vibes. He can tell that he's on the bottom of his tribe.

[00:42:05] [SPEAKER_07]: Things aren't going the way that he wanted them to go.

[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_07]: And he needs Rachel right now to wake up in front of everybody and follow him down to the beach to make him feel better.

[00:42:14] [SPEAKER_07]: And Rachel very astutely says, this is not OK. This is not good.

[00:42:17] [SPEAKER_03]: But could this be you? Was it like Chappelle O'Clock that Andy was awake and then looking for somebody to talk to?

[00:42:24] [SPEAKER_07]: I don't bother nobody during Chappelle O'Clock. I'm an early riser, though.

[00:42:27] [SPEAKER_07]: Like, especially when there's other people around. I'm kind of like, hey, wake up at six in the morning. We got to go get breakfast.

[00:42:32] [SPEAKER_07]: But in the middle of the night, no, live your life. Let me just be me.

[00:42:36] [SPEAKER_07]: I'm out here chilling. I'm not bothering nobody. You know what I'm saying?

[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_07]: The problem is when you invite other people into Chappelle O'Clock. And that's where Andy went wrong.

[00:42:43] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. OK, Andy ends up walking off during the challenge and basically like laying down.

[00:42:55] [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, I watched it happen in slow motion in my mind. I saw it all.

[00:42:58] [SPEAKER_07]: Like, I could just like, I could read his thoughts because you see the Gada tribe is falling out of the race with this puzzle.

[00:43:04] [SPEAKER_07]: You know, Asia and them have been done for hours, for years, you know, because of her strength.

[00:43:07] [SPEAKER_07]: Did you see how she pushed that boat? Oh, my God.

[00:43:09] [SPEAKER_07]: So I'm looking at the Gada tribe and they're like, the Gada tribe is not making any headway.

[00:43:14] [SPEAKER_07]: And I could just see the wheels start turning.

[00:43:16] [SPEAKER_07]: And he said he's like watching his game slip away with every puzzle piece that's not happening.

[00:43:21] [SPEAKER_07]: He just has to remove himself from the situation because it started to get to him.

[00:43:25] [SPEAKER_07]: And he just goes and lays down and tries to have a moment.

[00:43:28] [SPEAKER_07]: And I love Jeff going like, Andy, you good? Andy's like, I was going to get voted out.

[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_07]: I tried my best, Jeff. He's like, God damn it.

[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_07]: And so they have to bring in medical because it sounds like Andy is saying his last goodbyes.

[00:43:41] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I thought Jeff handled this pretty well, this whole situation. What did you think?

[00:43:47] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, he wanted to shake Andy so bad, like an Etch A Sketch and go, get up, stand up, you're fine.

[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_07]: But Andy was having a moment.

[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's over, it's over. I can't. Like, no, no, no, no, you're still here.

[00:43:58] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, he was doing, he was basically putting himself like in the past tense.

[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_07]: Everything was like, I was on the bottom. They got me out.

[00:44:23] [SPEAKER_07]: But once they got him cooled down, he still had a little word vomit left in him from, you know, some of that anxiousness.

[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah. OK, so Jeff asks Andy, all right, Andy, could you give us in your own words what's going on there?

[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_03]: And I think that Jeff was really looking for like, yeah, I'm good. I'm fine, everybody. Don't worry about me.

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_07]: He wanted one of those classic survivor metaphors, like, Jeff, survivor is hard.

[00:44:50] [SPEAKER_07]: And in this game, you know, sometimes you think you're ready for something like this, but you get out here, you try your best, Jeff.

[00:44:55] [SPEAKER_07]: But I'm not giving up yet. Like he wanted something like that. And Andy was like, not great, Jeff. Not great.

[00:45:42] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. I wanted to reach through the screen and grab him and just snatch him through the screen so that he wouldn't be there.

[00:47:13] [SPEAKER_07]: There have been so many moments where things have just gone so crazy in these first tribal councils.

[00:47:36] [SPEAKER_03]: I too opened many coconuts for my tribe and didn't get any praises when others did.

[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_03]: One could think that they found the cure for cancer.

[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_03]: If I had to redo it, I'd let them die of thirst or drink salt water.

[00:48:01] [SPEAKER_07]: But I think that's the one thing everybody has pretty much unanimously said is that Andy was correct.

[00:48:08] [SPEAKER_07]: He picked up on the social cue that he and Jon were on the bottom of this alliance.

[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_07]: That was a thing. When he saw that they didn't even look in his direction when he cut his coconut,

[00:48:27] [SPEAKER_07]: And in that moment, if they're not reacting, you can see that maybe they don't really care.

[00:48:33] [SPEAKER_07]: Not to say that they have any maladjusted feelings for you or whatever, or malcontent,

[00:48:39] [SPEAKER_07]: but they definitely aren't looking out for you.

[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_07]: Honestly, if you have to have a moment, that's kind of a cool moment to have where you just went face first into the well.

[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_07]: I mean, what other choice did he have that were going to take away his vote?

[00:54:39] [SPEAKER_07]: And if I'm not mistaken, does he have his vote back or did he found the idol, right?

[00:54:58] [SPEAKER_07]: I think Rome has effectively lost his vote as of the end of this episode because he's still trying to figure out the rest of this beware thing.

[00:55:03] [SPEAKER_03]: I kind of wonder if this might have been happening after the challenge was over, that we were seeing something, a scene that was taking place after they came back and won the challenge.

[00:55:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And then they were doing this stuff because the stuff that was going on with Gabe seemed like it was happening the morning of day three, like waking up before the challenge.

[00:55:23] [SPEAKER_03]: But this was a lot of stuff going on here before they had their immunity challenge, if that's the case.

[00:55:28] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, and Gabe didn't have to reach into the well to get his beware advantage.

[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_07]: So I like that they're putting them in different spots.

[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_07]: You know, they're not the same on each beach.

[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_07]: Well, obviously he needs to play an idol for Asia, you know, but when he plays that idol for Asia, he then needs to go home as well.

[00:55:53] [SPEAKER_07]: So he's like, he uses his idol to save Asia and then he's voted out as a way to sacrifice and then to pay homage to her glory.

[00:56:01] [SPEAKER_07]: You know what I'm saying? Like you have to be able to push her ahead while also taking yourself out of the mix.

[00:56:06] [SPEAKER_07]: Okay. You know? Yeah.

[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_07]: I've thought about this.

[00:56:09] [SPEAKER_03]: All right. So we'll see what happens. But I feel like that this Red Tribe, based off of what we saw from the challenges, I don't think they have to worry about going to tribal council.

[00:56:19] [SPEAKER_07]: Between Asia and Saul and Rome and Tina, like the team that they have together really is a very strong team.

[00:56:27] [SPEAKER_07]: But you cannot forget they did lose the very first challenge.

[00:56:30] [SPEAKER_07]: And so maybe I mean, they do have some weaknesses, but they killed the immunity challenge for sure.

[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_07]: Asia was pushing that boat. The puzzle, it seemed like they did in just seconds.

[00:56:41] [SPEAKER_07]: They flew past yellow and blue.

[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_07]: And honestly, it really came down to them not being able to manage the boat.

[00:56:48] [SPEAKER_07]: Yellow and blue both capsized their boats with those treasure chests.

[00:56:53] [SPEAKER_07]: And so in my mind, this was a win for Red, but it doesn't really solidify them as a powerhouse in the challenges because had those boats not tipped over, I don't know who would have won.

[00:57:01] [SPEAKER_03]: Shabook, I want to go back to the first challenge.

[00:57:03] [SPEAKER_03]: It was an unusual challenge that we broke people up into pairs and then went and sent them into it.

[00:57:10] [SPEAKER_03]: And my favorite part of it was that Jeff introduced everybody, talked about how Survivor is like a community and then was like, all right, everybody follow me.

[00:57:19] [SPEAKER_03]: And then brought them to go to a different place for the challenge.

[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_07]: Yeah. And he's like, we brought them to the Gladiator Arena and then they had to compete in these, I think people were calling it the Indiana Jones Challenge or something like that.

[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_03]: I think that Asia and TK was the Indiana Jones Challenge, they called it.

[00:57:37] [SPEAKER_07]: Oh, okay. Okay. So yeah, this is the one that got the ropes and they got the mud and all that stuff.

[00:57:43] [SPEAKER_03]: The mud. And so Jeff, I listened to the On Fire podcast this week, another podcast that's out there.

[00:57:52] [SPEAKER_03]: And Jeff talked for a while about all the work they do to get the mud ready for Survivor.

[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_03]: It's incredible the lengths that they go through to get all this mud out here.

[00:58:07] [SPEAKER_03]: And the reason why they do this is because the Survivor contestants, they go from their everyday lives, and Jeff explains this in great detail,

[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_03]: to what Jeff likes and the producers like is that they go into the mud and that is basically your birth into Survivor.

[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Jeff even says it in the episode.

[00:58:32] [SPEAKER_05]: That mud is birthing you into Survivor right there.

[00:58:35] [SPEAKER_03]: That mud is birthing you into Survivor.

[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_07]: You have Christian and Lyrsa, I think, doing their challenge and everybody's so shocked that Christian can do these slide puzzles and this algorithm and all that kind of stuff.

[00:59:31] [SPEAKER_07]: You learn things about these people in those first challenges sometimes.

[00:59:35] [SPEAKER_07]: This way around, you don't get any of that. You get baptism by mud and then a puzzle.

[00:59:41] [SPEAKER_07]: We don't get anything from that. Jeff, keep your mud.

[00:59:44] [SPEAKER_03]: So, Chappelle, I was thinking about this and this whole idea of like, okay, the mud is birthing you into Survivor.
