[00:01:27] short hiatus between the seasons,
[00:01:30] but we are back so much to get into in this two hour premiere.
[00:01:34] So much to break down.
[00:01:36] We've got new tribes.
[00:01:37] We have new challenges.
[00:01:39] Oh, it is such a glorious day.
[00:01:42] We're back from New York on Bryce and Winter 46.
[00:01:46] We had an epic, epic, welcome back to the podcast, season two. Season two. Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, I don't know if it shows, but my name on the call right now, Jack Linsky, I don't know. I don't know where you are. I see it, but let me see if we can. There was a lot of comparisons. We're gonna have to talk about it. Man, I'm so excited to be back.
[00:03:02] There's always a feeling,
[00:03:03] I told my friends when we were watching the opening
[00:03:05] last night, it's like, to hear your takes. Oh, I am. I mean, of course, you know, I love my baby boy, the Jack Atkins, but I have never been more excited
[00:04:20] to hear Jack's takes on this episode.
[00:04:24] Just, I literally, out to like I just so
[00:06:43] 20 seconds. So listen, if you have not experienced a Bryce and when present party, do yourself a favor window. What what are
[00:06:48] you? Your overarching take on everything? Um well, your voice
[00:06:54] says it all because when the was screaming all night. Oh, it's
[00:06:57] been a night on the horse. Um I will say incredible premiere
[00:07:02] party. It's so good to be back and this tour is gonna be one We hit the beach, you know, Survivor 46, we get a great intro from our man Tevin. And we see some other clips of people coming in, but we hit the beach and just to... They said Tevin Angelo. They said he sounded like Maya. Maya Angelo in that intro. I just, again, had to give my shout out to a...
[00:08:21] Never in my wildest dreams would I think someone like Tevin
[00:08:24] would be introing us in for the first two minutes.
[00:08:27] And, like, he has a way with Tim, Gem, Maria, and Mariah. And then Waren Purple, we got Yannu, Jelinski, Bhanu, Q, Kenzie, Jess, and Tiffany. Jeff gives this big opening speech, and I wanted to bring this up, where he's like, some of y'all never gonna win.
[00:09:43] Some of y'all don't even know it, but you suck. And everyone's like, yeah, he's like, all you guys are nodding along,
[00:09:46] but you don't know that you Like don't, you should put that doubt in somebody's head because it's like, you know, that could really eat away at people. So I don't love it. I love it because in an era where people are saying, Jeff is too soft and saying like, you know, we had some quitters last season
[00:11:01] and he didn't go in on them.
[00:11:03] I think him from the jump, keeping it funky is like,
[00:11:06] yo, y'all are here now. to pace, we'll take it. And we get to this opening challenge where the winning tribe is going to earn their camp supplies. And then the second place job is going to choose other they want to compete in the sweat or the savvy challenge. And it's a pretty straightforward opening challenge. I genuinely was concerned. This was a very Bruce esque challenge of like
[00:12:22] diving headfirst under things. I was like, did we not learn our lesson a year ago? together, which ultimately of course leads to, you know, Nami earning their supplies, Siga gets second and they choose to do savvy. And then Yannoo is stuck with sweat. So just a couple of things I wanted to throw out to you guys. A, any takeaways in general from this challenge? And then B, I also want to hear if you're Siga, do you choose sweat or
[00:13:40] do you choose savvy? the team did the team get to pick it for them? CEO got second and they got to choose whether they wanted savvy or sweat. And then I liked the fact that they were in savage mode and they was like, no, like make them sweat. And they, I, so I liked that the fact that they are actually like out here and they're like, they are taking a page out of Jeff's book.
[00:15:00] Like we all survive are like, they're doing sweats.
[00:15:06] I like that too.
[00:15:07] Yeah. Savvy, it's like, if you don't get it, you don't get it. You tell your tribe, we didn't, we didn't figure it out. And it is what it is. Sweat, it's like, if you're going to get it, you got to work for four hours and it's going to be a grind. And if you don't do that, as we see, it does not look good. Um, uh, question.
[00:16:25] So when people say several, what normally is the number that you generally think of? I actually, I was excited to talk about this.
[00:17:22] the number that I land on is definitely not going to be seven.
[00:17:27] I think of when people say several, I think anywhere between like two
[00:17:32] and 10, well, maybe four and 10, but I just don't land on seven. I usually, but this was an interesting discussion to have with people,
[00:17:36] because I always have thought that it's about seven, you know,
[00:17:39] they say it's going to take, but when they do or three, you know,
[00:17:43] right. When DC might say, Hey, if I told you, like, I have many people coming over around how many people would you think I meant by many? Many? That could be more than several if you ask me. Yeah.
[00:19:00] So you have like an estimation, right?
[00:19:02] So I think several, I think it could be, it was Jelinski giving his confessionals sitting down in front of the bucket while Q is still walking back and forth. And so
[00:20:22] yeah, so I would love to just know like your thoughts, Jack, on Jelinski
[00:21:23] I don't think they're allowed to like fill the holes with like their buffer their shirts
[00:21:27] But maybe you put the bucket inside the other bucket and turn it so that the
[00:21:31] And then you take turns going on trips
[00:21:37] Or if you're jolinski and you're that gas just be like look I need a break like let me take a break I'll get back to it, but I'm not just gonna give up and then on top of that
[00:21:41] You know to make this whole
[00:21:44] Show of throwing the hourglass and stuff. It's like if you're that gas Oh, oh, oh, oh, O'Reilly. Auto Parts. Woo! Woo! Last question. Is there a difference? Last season, there were some people that quit, Survivor. Is there a difference in, like, Jelinski's quit?
[00:23:00] And I mean, I know there is a difference,
[00:23:02] but, like, if the Survivor's, they quit the game. That's not me. More mechanical exit. Here's another thing that I thought of though, right? What if Q was just as tired, right? But like now he can use this, like, you know, like it almost gives him a leg up to be like,
[00:24:22] I didn't like. That's actually what Jelinski said in his exit press
[00:24:24] is that they kind of mutually agreed to quit.
[00:24:26] And that Q just kind of used that as a reason What's worse, and you guys's opinion, him quitting or you doing that for seven hours and still not hitting the goal? Like quitting. Right. I think quitting because I think you need to signal to your tribe that you're not going to give up.
[00:25:40] Now look for if I, because they had about two and a half hours left. And also Jelinski, and then we'll get into this. Jelinski's, I don't think any of Jelinski's specific decisions were necessarily bad, but I think the thing that really sunk his game was the attitude of like volunteering to do everything. And right, so you volunteer to do this sweat challenge and you're really eager about it. And then you come back and you're like, yeah, it's been,
[00:27:00] like if I went back to camp
[00:27:02] and Jelinski came back an hour later,
[00:27:04] he was like, was it for me, man?
[00:27:06] I just feel like, dude, if no one else wants to do the puzzle, I'll give it my best shot, but there's no guarantees. How can you be mad at that? Because then you didn't step up. Like, that's the difference for me. The only couple things I'll add, you know,. Yeah, it's bad. And especially for a guy like Jeff, who we know loves the hourglass. I mean, Jeff is probably like, we were gonna use that at the merge. So like, you know what I'm saying? That's Erica's.
[00:29:40] Yeah, I mean, and we see like the rest of the episode,
[00:29:43] Jeff gives Jelinty a lot of flack,
[00:29:45] which whether that's because it appears. It's like, he's good at motivating But we got, we wrapped up with sweat. Now let's head over to SEGA for the savvy challenge. And I want to shout, so they have this big, I guess it's a word search with all these numbers in it. And they cross out all these numbers, da da da da. I want to shout out my guy, Zach Wortenberger,
[00:32:20] because I was watching the episode with him
[00:32:22] and he was like, well, there's too many numbers
[00:32:24] for it to be the combination.
[00:32:25] I bet you it's the letters that they didn't use
[00:32:27] spell a clue become a duo. Like we didn't get it, but it's very clear that Ben is going to be a shining rager on this season.
[00:33:41] He's gonna be shredding. I'm high on Siga.
[00:33:43] Like I got my green buff on right now.
[00:33:45] I'm representing them.
[00:33:46] I got my overalls.
[00:33:47] I'm representing my to, you know, instead of going chronological, I sort of figured we'd hit each camp and then kind of break down the dynamics. And I do think off the top, the Sika tribe is probably the most cohesive of the other tribes. They obviously talked a lot about vibes. And
[00:36:21] Tim and Maria talked about being parents. We have just saying like the makeup and the build and how the girls pulled in Brando and they have Charlie. Like I feel like it's just very interesting, but yeah, I'm very high on the green tribe. Yeah. And then we kick it over to the Nami tribe, the orange tribe. Obviously they didn't have to do sweat or savvy. They get all of their supplies,
[00:36:23] but there are a lot of dynamics breaking out immediately.
[00:36:27] And there's definitely some chaos going on Hunter isn't necessarily annoyed with Tevin and Soda, but more about the fact that the singing is giving him camp PTSD. Funny because like Wendell, you were thinking about Q, Hunter, I was a little nervous. I'm like, uh-oh, Southern, I in my mind was like, uh-oh, are we gonna get this archetype?
[00:37:42] And when he made that connection with Tevin
[00:37:45] and was like, teach's the, the, we gotta watch out for her. And then- Parody. Parody Light. So that was very interesting. And so also, Soda, right? Like when he brought that to her, in my mind, if he would have brought that to me, I would have been like, okay, like he said a name,
[00:39:02] I'm going with it, like, you know, I didn't say a name,
[00:39:04] but you know, her't really say to anyone if I was in the game. everything with people coming to her wanting to work with her, even having conversations with Jess, despite the fact that Jess isn't really seeming to want to give her that much. She bonds with Jill Inskey because they have matching tattoos, which is kind of wild. She immediately clicks with Tiffany. They get along with Q because they respect kind of his work ethic. So Kenzie seems like she's really going to be at the
[00:41:43] epicenter of this tribe and steering things. She I really like that about her and I just like her being honest and sharing that and of course obviously I love Tiff. I think Tiff is amazing. I think that her energy is top tier. She's smart and she wants to play like you know like not trying to play the
[00:43:00] fence like I didn't come out here for Survivor and I love that about her. I love Kinsey. I love the And then over on the Siga tribe, Mariah and Maria do rock, paper, scissors, shoot, kind of assuming those are the two that kind of wanted to go. And Mariah wins that. So Jack, I'd love to know your thoughts on Jelinski raising his hand after the savvy,
[00:44:22] after the sweat.
[00:44:23] Like, please give me your analysis on that.
[00:45:25] argument to that would be the reason Jelinski encountered so many variables that did not go his way is because he constantly put himself out there and
[00:45:29] when you're a player like Jelinski who on paper looks pretty physical is fairly
[00:45:36] social in the sense that he's like getting along with the people on his
[00:45:39] tribe like Vanu and Kenzie the way to go and F up your game is to go volunteer
[00:45:45] for all these things that could go your way and tank your game. And I, I went to, what do you think? The only thing I'll add to that, or it almost sounds like, yo, dude, just chill out. Don't do anything. You're allowing yourself, like you're going to give them a reason. If you would have just not done anything, someone else would have looked good or bad, but you'd still be the tall young guy that might be good in a challenge.
[00:47:04] But by putting yourself out there, it's like, even though you want to, I feel like if he would have just like sat back and like kind of like allowed it to happen or just see whatever, I think that that really could have helped him. I think that his ability to not really kind of like read the room of like these events, this is a very small thing, but it's like, what's the ideal strategy for putting yourself out there for a journey? I would actually argue it's smartest to really not want to go early on for two reasons. A, if you're the first one who goes, like you're putting yourself out there in a way that there's going to be an attention on you, whether it's good or bad.
[00:49:41] B, you know, assuming you, you are going to make it, if you guys agree or disagree with that, but. What I do agree with is I loved this new journey game. I don't always love the journeys, but I was curious to know like what your thoughts were on this new game of, I mean, I don't know if you would call it chicken but also it's the name of the game, right? Like I was supposed to lie here. So you can't really be that mad, but I also get Jelinski. And again, I think that this seeing this part of it softened my heart to everything else that I saw love Jelinski because I felt as though in that move,
[00:52:21] he was like, all right, I know it's the game.
[00:52:23] I'm gonna just come clean.
[00:52:23] It's me.
[00:52:24] I ain't trying to lie.
[00:52:25] I respected that. But I also love sometimes in Survivor, like big personalities, they don't normally work really well. I loved how this l, even if I'm looking at this little game as like, okay, it's not like, if I was in Maria's shoes and someone lied to me and I wouldn't necessarily be like, okay, I'm gonna hold it, like they don't like me, I'm gonna hold it against it. That's the nature of this little game. But it just shows you in that circumstance like this,
[00:55:01] that they're a really good liar.
[00:55:02] And that's something that I think everyone will remember.
[00:55:05] The thing too is I think it sort of naturally will play out
[00:55:08] like this most of the line, the issue that he went wrong with, and we'll get to this in a second, because I know Bryce, he wants to have it is how he delivered this news. I agree with you there. No, I was just saying that like, I feel like almost the exact opposite, right? Like I feel like my game and survivor was cut short because like, I was not
[00:56:20] thinking about my game.
[00:56:21] I feel like here, if this is what they say, I just met these people.
[00:56:25] Like, I'm sorry.
[00:56:26] Like I'm going boss to the wall.
[00:56:28] Right.
[00:56:29] You know what I mean? Like, Bryce is a good liar. But I hate the fact that James Jones is always popping up in here. But James Jones, I had to drive home with James Jones, and we were having this discussion, right? And in order to win, you have to play to win, right? Like, if you don't play to win, you're not going to win. But when you play to win, you might go home, right?
[00:57:41] I think a scenario in episode one like this,
[00:57:44] you don't have to go out of your way.
[00:57:46] True.
[00:57:46] I agree. Like, you know, the way Tiffany, I was like, okay, first of all, I love Tiffany because that would have been my knee jerk reaction. But I also hate it because it's like Jelinski, he came back and delivered it honest and was like, Hey guys, like, it sucks because it's like you delivering it honest, like almost
[00:59:00] pisses us off.
[00:59:01] Like, this is what you should have lied.
[00:59:04] Because you think about like, Hey, if we line really could hurt the rest of the tribe. So that's kind of why I see now I will get to this argument of like do you keep Jelinski or not later but I think the argument that you know in the three days he's been here he went and gave the other tribe two votes like he's a he might, you know, I feel like he's like a like I'm vanilla baby like Jack Harlow, right? Like I feel like he has he it's like, I mean, I get it and I just did it, but like the way when they had him standing there like, this is going to be, oh, I'm going to control this.
[01:03:01] I'm with it.
[01:03:02] I'm like, why would y'all play's so funny because it's like I feel like literally that those two energies are what we saw on the show of Survivor like where he's like helicopter he loves the game but he's also like so humble and loving but all right you know, kind of cut and dry. It's not really going to activate until they lose a challenge. So she's sort of sitting on it.
[01:05:41] But my initial reaction to that was like, I think this is so stupid. Was that what, did Brad do that? That was such a fun one. That was like a Carolyn season in them. Like they had to like sneak over to the other tribe to get the key and come back. I think that was Brad. I remember Brad in 41 having to do that, where he like, remember he like stuffed his body on the, he stuffed his clothes on the beach or something.
[01:07:01] And then like had to leave like,
[01:07:02] like yeah, I'm glad that they pulled it back.
[01:07:05] But also again, I can if I'm out there, it's for anyone who's out there, it's hard to be like, okay, I've found this, let me just put it back. Like I want some screen time, you know, I'm gonna find it so I can get some screen time
[01:08:20] and be looking for it, whether that works out or not,
[01:08:24] you kind of want that challenge.
[01:08:25] But I do think like a brand,
[01:08:27] and also finding in front of someone like Tiffany found up with Jeff Gittpess and Jelinski about the several thing, which we kind of discussed that, but I do think it's like, again, to be like, well, Jeff, instead it was going to take several hours, but we only have four hours. So how are we supposed to do it? It's like,
[01:09:40] But, and I mean, I know we're jumping all over the place, though, but know Jack is a survivor fan like Jelinski. So I'm just curious, like in preparation for a challenge like this, would you be willing to carry a heavy listen down the slide? You got to, and after you get it down the slide,
[01:11:06] Oh, you got to pull that listen.
[01:11:07] Okay. Would you grab the lizard by the head? I know you're semi serious. No, you got to push it up from the back because until you get more, most of it over because when you're just grabbing the front, you can't just grab the front.
[01:12:22] Both of you.
[01:12:23] You can't just grab the head.
[01:12:25] You can't thing. Yeah. Do you think Jolecki should be up here doing the puzzle? Even if like, even if you can do the puzzle,
[01:13:42] Jack, I need for you to answer this.
[01:13:44] Should he be the man up there, and the fact that Jess is cooking,
[01:15:01] the fact that he is here than Jess possibly is.
[01:16:03] everyone's going to be they're gonna start fighting to see who could do the challenge. Nobody will make it to the end. That'll be the season that
[01:16:08] there's no winner. Yeah they don't make it past the sweat challenge. They never get resources.
[01:16:17] They are just out there. Now okay so S in on that conversation and then to the producer.
[01:17:41] That had him at that confessional.
[01:17:44] Come back.
[01:17:46] They had to let us keep talking about. He's like, no, I got it. I like to imagine maybe it was supposed to be Jess and Bhanu. But then they get to the puzzle and Jess is like, get out of my way. He just starts doing it. What's he supposed to do? What's he supposed to do?
[01:19:00] He just gets up and unlocks the pieces of Jess.
[01:19:03] He's up there.
[01:19:03] He has to was good.
[01:20:22] So I guess let's, you know, enough,
[01:20:25] not to, you know, we've Q, but also I feel like it kind of gave me a, if I am Tiff or like Bhanu with Q, it's like, so even if he sucks, like, so you're not loyal, right?
[01:21:41] Like, so it, for me, it just kind of seemed like,
[01:21:44] because Q was so hard on that vote,
[01:21:46] it's like, you're not compromising. challenge I think I'd rather have a Jelinski on my team than a Jess and that's no shame Jess. But I mean not for but also let's just kind of sort of dive into this because Jess was killing it with the puzzles she wasn't necessarily necessarily struggling with the lizard and her performance in the other challenge like I didn't necessarily seeing her like down and out.
[01:23:05] I'll take a Jess before someone that volunteers for literally everything group I might be like sure, Jelinski's a little bit of a mess but he seems like a good hang and he's gonna be loyal to our group and you know if we go again we could go, if we go again we can vote Jelinski but for me maybe it's just because I see some some of myself in Jelinski, maybe not in the gameplay but just in the personality. I'm like if I'm in the game with
[01:24:21] Jelinski I think Jelinski and I, Jelinski's favors in tribal either. No. And Jelinski didn't really do himself any favors, you know, saying like, I will never give up on a challenge. And it's cause he's like a side from sweat. He's like, I'm sweat. But with Jess's, maybe it's just the narrative
[01:25:43] that we're getting.
[01:25:44] I feel like it's sort of inevitable
[01:25:45] that in the next couple of episodes,
[01:25:47] we go to challenge or go to tribal, probably would give up the biggest fight. So for me, that just kind of illuminated Kenzie. Like she's loyal, she understands the numbers and it just makes me like, okay, I see where she's going. Like she's trying to insulate and protect herself. And she has this great relationship with tips. So it's like, that was just the tad bit that I had that I was like, okay, I see you. And I like that they were flexible into making this move because at the end of the day,
[01:27:01] keeping or cutting Jelinski is not gonna be a make or break
[01:27:04] but forcing yourself, forcing one of those options turn that around like got you so i'm definitely she was actually my first round draft pick and fancy jess was uh and so i so i hate to admit that i am worried for her uh just because not not because of her social game or her intelligence or anything like that just for the fact that it's like if your brain starts to kind of shut off on you it's impossible to to do well
[01:29:23] I'm curious to see when the tribes come back next episode. I'm curious to see what their reaction will be
[01:29:25] if they get like a little two second confessional
[01:29:27] because I feel like when he folded, they were like,
[01:29:32] they had a read on him.
[01:29:33] So I'm just curious to see what it will be like
[01:29:34] when they see that he has returned.
[01:29:36] But nevertheless, like I said before,
[01:29:39] in order to win, you have to play to win.
[01:29:42] And sometimes in playing to win, you do lose.
[01:29:45] The one thing that I can definitely think Jelinski you definitely said out there you wanted to be a legend and I
[01:31:00] definitely think that you are a legend. Uh it is great to be
