[00:00:55] Hello, hello and welcome to the Purple Pants Podcast Pit Stop Coverage of Amazing Race Season 37 Exit Interviews. I serve as your humble and oh so gracious host, Brice Izyah. And I thank you so much for tuning in to this week's exit interview. If you could be so kind to ensure you are subscribed to the Purple Pants Podcast.

[00:01:32] Brooke and I are here with the 10th team eliminated from episode 10 of the Amazing Race Season 37. We dive into the highs, the lows, what happens, and if they still have love for the game and what they're going to do after. So let's get into this week's exit interview.
[00:02:05] And keeping our Purple Pants Podcast Coverage of Amazing Race Season 37, Brooke and I have the honor to be with one of our most favorite teams. If you're not watching them on TikTok, I'm trying to figure out what you are doing. Brett and Mark, how are you feeling? I hope you're feeling how you look because you two look amazing today.
[00:02:24] Well, thank you. We are feeling all the emotions. We are happy. We're sad. We're grateful. We're not heartbroken. We are just, there's just such a depth and rich of experiences being on the Amazing Race and we're feeling them all today. But most of all, like we are feeling grateful and like grateful. You don't cry. I can't. There are tears of joy and gratitude, but yes.
[00:02:48] We don't have time for tears right now. Sorry. No, you do. You do. I'm just letting you know, I am in Ireland. I'm nowhere near home. And you guys are like, I was like, I'm signing on. I don't care. I'm late for a dinner. I have to wait for dinner. I don't even care. I was like, I will be there when I get there. Rice, go. I know we don't have time for tears. We have time for like.
[00:03:07] Well, yes. Brett and Mark, I think that representation is so important for me to be one of the first openly gay black men to play Survivor and to have a team like you two on Amazing Race. And despite all of the hurdles that you faced early on in the season, you overcame them. And Brooke and I were just saying last week that like, Brett and Mark is going to be the winner of this season. How did it feel going through all of these hurdles? It just seemed like the universe was like, stop, stop.
[00:03:36] We're going to mess them up. And you kept just pressing through. What was that like in real time going through that? Well, I'll tell you what. I'm going to let you finish. Last week, I was also like, man, Mark and Brett are going to win. Do you see them? Yeah. So I felt the same way last week, too. That's it. I mean, the whole race in general, after the drumming into all of our taxi issues, there was a moment where Mark and I were back and we were just like, we need to like clear this energy.
[00:04:06] Clearly, it's going to happen again. So like, how do we roll with this? And we knew that we were good at challenges. We're like, OK, we just have to like do our best. And if luck isn't on our side, well, we have to pull it up even tighter. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to do well. And when things kept going wrong, we were like, we didn't come all this way to struggle and be in the back of the pack and not have fun. So which one of those can we which one of those can we address?
[00:04:34] And it's going to be having fun because we can't address the other ones right now. And that actually helped us. I feel right here. Sorry. I love that you guys had the wherewithal to like say, what can we do and to fix it in real time? It's a skill that I don't have. I was like, have fun. What's that about? I'm just going to. But you guys, you could tell that even I need a little bit more of your outlook in my life. But you could tell that even when things were wrong, even when you guys were 45 minutes behind and lost and it's messy and it's horrible.
[00:05:02] You just not only like the love that you had for one another and the fact that you could just see that you guys leaned on each other because you have different strengths and sort of different ways of looking at life. And that's important. And I just think that watching the two of you, you could tell that you were like, OK, it's not our day. But that doesn't mean it's over. It's not our day. But that doesn't mean everything in the world is sour. I'll have that skill. But I think that is something that I watching people. It's something watching you guys that I feel like I need to embrace more.
[00:05:30] So it's just it was really joyful to watch you guys. I'm really sad you're gone. I said last week you're going to win. What the hell do I know? But I want to say that, like, I think a big part of it was this was such a once in a life opportunity. And I knew that, like, I wanted to show up as best I could for him and for us. And part of that meant that, like, I had to deal with the issues in a way that wasn't going to take experience away from us.
[00:05:58] So I think it was for us when we were like, we need to keep figuring out how to have fun and not being let down by this, because for him and for us, I want to show up. And to me, that was how we showed up. And that's honestly something that we've learned as a couple going just through things. Like, there's been times in our relationship where, like, I've taken away from some of his experiences because of just me being what, you know, in the feelings or not regulating or whatever it is that, like, kept me from, like, seeing the bigger picture.
[00:06:26] And so that was the lesson we've learned going into the race. And that's something that we wanted to do on the race. And, like, it's fun. It is fun to race. Yeah! It is fun. It's the best show on TV. I'll say it. I'll say it again. There's no other show I'd rather do. This is my Saul back. Let's do it again. Amen. Yes. In the moment, Mark, did you know how funny Brett was on half of the detours or the roadblocks that you're doing? And you got Brett over here, like, doing everything and cheering.
[00:06:55] I loved the love. Could you feel that in the moment when you're, like, stressing out and doing it? And here you got Brett over here doing the dances with you. And this is the thing. I'm so used to it. And, like, I'm having fun. But this is the reason why I fell in love with Brett is because I take life so seriously. I take life so seriously. And I and he pissed me off because he wants to crack a joke or he wants to laugh.
[00:07:25] And I'm like, not right now because I'm in a mood. So to be honest, that's the reason why we're together. And you saw it. And that's the only reason why we can do tough things like we did on the race is because he's here. So, yes. I love that. Now, I do have to ask because I am obsessed with the social media and I need to know, Mark, did you walk the dogs today? Because I'm tired of Brett having to get home and walk the dogs. You just mark.
[00:07:52] You know, I not today because we're here. No, I mean, to be honest, I do do a lot of things around the house. But Brett also does them when I don't feel like it, which is a large amount of time. So here's a really fun life moment that happened in the day. He was cooking in the kitchen and generally I have to clean it back for him, which is fine.
[00:08:20] He'll start cooking. And I think it was a private thought that he said out loud. He was just sitting in the kitchen. I could see him like kind of losing steam. And he goes, I think I'm done being in the kitchen. And I was like, nothing's made. Nothing's finished. Everything's everywhere. And I was like, was that meant for me to hear? I feel like that happens a lot. I don't know about it. And now I got you. Yeah, I get it. I feel like we keep saying everyone needs a Josiah, but I think I'm wrong.
[00:08:48] I think everyone needs a Brett because I am Mark and Mark is me. And we are very similar in the like when I am down, don't know. There's nothing that's going to fix me except like something so funny that you just can't be upset anymore. You have to laugh. I'm going to change my answer to everyone needs a Brett. Also, can you guys please post a picture of your fireplace once it is done? Because I am obsessed with following like your journey of everything that you do.
[00:09:18] I sound like a stalker. I don't care. But I'm seeing the skim coating done and I want to see the final product. I have nothing to do with the Amazing Race. I know it's looking so good, but I think that is why we are great at the Amazing Race. We're a great strong team. And I swear to God, we're going to win it if you bring us back. Like, because we will just do it. If we skim coat, it looks great. It's not finished, but it looks great. And that's because we just decided we could. I feel like, well, I feel like, you know, chicken and the egg. We are like, we can do anything. And then the race was like, we can do everything. And then we're like, oh, skim coating?
[00:09:46] We saw five seconds of a video. We're like, let's just do it. Oh, if anything, the race created monsters. Because I think I can do anything now. Like, you can't tell me otherwise. I think hindsight is always 20-20. And in this episode, after we got the bird's nest together, and we saw Alyssa and Josiah getting the instructions, and you guys walked up and were getting the instructions. And I always say to Brooke watching this, I'm like, sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.
[00:10:15] Like, either we'll stay here and get the instructions, and sure, we can be on the right way. Or we can just go and follow Alyssa and Josiah and bet on that. And do you feel like it was a good decision to do that? Because I feel like, win or lose, go for the money. Go big or go home. I wouldn't have gotten the directions either, just so you know, I was following 100%. I want to be so clear. And I'm going to let you two part of the answer. If anything I saw in the race, I was like, babe, I'm so sorry. I just run over people when I talk, and it is not okay.
[00:10:46] Right. Right. However, I will say real quick, we thought we were fighting for last place. So we were like, we need to throw a Hail Mary. We didn't know we were in second and third. Let me also be clear. Like, the stork is in someone's backyard. There's no one to get directions from. This was some random person who was being nosy. Happened to be outside in their yard. And her deciliter were leaning over the fence in the backyard getting directions. They did not look like they were having to get directions. We were like, let's follow them. We got so lost, we ended up in the town square where the laundry was. And there was a plethora of people to ask directions from.
[00:11:15] And none of them wanted to give them to us. By the time we got there, we were like... Like, three different people were like, no, we're good. We're good. We don't need to talk to anybody else. So we were like, we were like, if someone could please just God, somebody give us directions to the... Anyways, you finish. I think it was a great decision because if we knew we were only in second, we probably would have just gotten the directions. We would have hooked arms with Josiah and Alyssa and skipped to the pit mat for sure. A hundred percent. We were like, you want to go first and then we'll be third. Yeah, exactly. You go second, we'll be third. Don't worry.
[00:11:45] The whole time we were like, love you guys. I'm so sorry you're going to go home during the story. Right, right. So I think it was a good decision. I think if we had made it a little sooner and gotten to our car faster, we would have worked out. Yeah. But FEMS is the race. And listen, and I was so proud that you made that decision. It was like a game time decision. And it's like, we're going to bet on ourselves. Now, mind you, I do need to call y'all in because we need to... Are you going to cuss us out? I'm about to cuss y'all out. Okay. So come on in. Yes.
[00:12:12] Here's my cuss out of the day for my baby boys. Because I love y'all. Miss Debbie invited me to Thanksgiving. So let's be clear. Okay. I got invited first. My cousin is going to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving. So let's be clear. Okay. I got to get me a mark or a bread. So I'm going to Thanksgiving first. Okay. Okay. Okay. You know what? I think that's fair. I think that's fair, Bryce. And we will make sure there's an extra seat for you at the kids table
[00:12:42] just to make sure that you have space. Don't you worry. Two. We'll put an extra for whoever you meet and they can eat with you. And we'll have a great time. Three. I'm sure you're here. No. Bryce, all yours. All yours. Thank you so much. I'm going to Vegas. I don't know what you're talking about, Bryce. I'm going to Vegas. I'm coming to party. And I'm going to be taken out for a super fun time. So. Absolutely. And we're going to get to see you in New York next week. I'm very excited. It's okay.
[00:13:11] Bring back Brett and Mark justice. I feel like you didn't lose for anything that was, I mean, you guys have it in you to win. You could tell there was more in the tank. You could tell you had legs to go. I really, really think you guys are perfect. A perfect pick to come back again. And we will drink on it in just a few short days. And thank you guys so much. You guys have such a positive, wonderful recap of the episodes. We've listened every week and we really enjoy it.
[00:13:41] The good, the bad, the ugly, the real, the authentic. The information. The information. It's just fun. It's just fun. And we both, and this is probably too long and not part of the interview process, but we both really enjoyed watching y'all during your time on Survivor Amazing Race. So it's really cool to be a part of the family. When we saw it, we were like, oh, yes. Yeah. It was really cool to be a part of the family. And yeah. So we can fight about that. That's what family does. That's what family does. I'm happy to have them. They're making the family sexier as a whole.
[00:14:11] Exactly. And you guys look good doing it. I mean, honestly. That's what matters. You guys are the best. Before we go, Brooke has started this thing on the exit interviews that she does, the purple pants plus one. Thank you, guys. And so we would just love to hear from you. Is there anything that we did not get to see on The Amazing Race that you feel like is an important part of your story? Or just what you took away from The Amazing Race? Okay. Go ahead. Okay.
[00:14:38] The biggest thing that we would love to see that you didn't see that was filmed was that mat right before the U-turn. Yeah. I think you needed to see more. I'm going to keep this so short and sweet, but we just happen to be first in line for the U-turn. And I happen to have a big mouth. So, you know, it's not like what I said. And Phil, oh, you know what? That's what I would like to see. Phil thanked me on the mat. He thanked me for what I said at the U-turn vote. He said someone had to say it, and I'm glad you said it. And that's all I wish they showed.
[00:15:05] And in addition to that, like, I, in Hong Kong, I would say that, like, I, you didn't see that we were trying to catch our lax taxi. And I was, like, running, and all the money was falling all over the floor. And Brett was like, for the third time, Mark, pick up the money. And we barely made the taxi. We didn't have enough money for the taxi. He barely let us in to get that second place. And after that, I didn't carry the money, the passports, the tickets, nothing. I'm Brett, and I pick up all the money and carry everything. And I'm Mark. Exactly. And I'm Mark.
[00:15:33] And we learned that very early on. We learned it very early on. You guys were such a treat and a joy to the season. And I know that we're here because of an exit interview, but I truly feel like your beginning is just happening. And we can't wait to see you soon and welcome you to the family and continue to celebrate you, too. So thank you so much for bringing so much joy to this season. Thank you so much. Thank y'all. We love you guys. And good dinner. Bye. It's a purple pants.
[00:16:02] It's the purple pants. It's the purple pants podcast. You better get your headphones and listen up quick. It's the purple pants podcast. You better listen in public, might make your stomach hurt. It's the purple pants podcast. You trying to unwind, you better get that box wine. Cash, you trying to get your snack, you better hurry right back though. It's the purple pants. It's the purple pants. Yes.
