Purple Pants Podcast | The Amazing Race 29 Summer Rewatch: Episode Three Recap
Things heat up in Episode 3 of The Amazing Race 29 as Brooke and Brice travel to Tanzania and Zanzibar for one of the season’s first truly dramatic legs. With the Blind Double U Turn entering the game, tensions building between teams, and strategy starting to outweigh first impressions, the duo revisits the moments that shifted the race and changed team dynamics. Brooke brings her perspective from living it while Brice brings the questions as they unpack the gameplay, personalities, and early signs of who might have what it takes to go the distance.

[00:03:08] The Summer Rewatch is on and popping. And baby, we are going to Africa. We are building desks. We got a double U-turn. And listen, we got Halal Chicken. Woo, it's a good episode to get into. So let's not play no games. And let's get into this week's Pit Stop. Pit Stop. Pit, pit, pit, pit stop. It's a pit, pit, pit, pit stop. It's a pit, pit, pit, pit stop.
[00:03:36] Pit, pit, pit stop. It's a pit stop. Pit stop. Pit stop. Pit stop. And we are back for your summer rewatch of Amazing Race Season 29, Episode 3. I'm joined by my co-host of the Purple Pants Podcast, Pit Stop. And one contestant on the Amazing Race Season 29, Miss Brooke Cam. Hi.
[00:04:06] Hello. Good day, sir. I was going to say good morning, and I realize it's not morning. Good day. How are you? I am great. I just watched Episode 3. Highs, lows, pissed off because at maybe like 15 minutes into the episode, I stopped. And because Brooke's always like, I took notes. I'm always taking notes. But I was like, I stopped. Your screen just got so dark. I mean, there you go. It was like notes.
[00:04:35] I got a little ominous. I took notes, and I wrote this. Just you wait. There's more weeks to come. Your screen will just be black. It'll just get darker and darker. Listen. But literally, I stopped 15 minutes in, and I said, oh my God. Now, mind you. 15 minutes in. Let me think of what you were upset about. But no, this isn't an upset. This was just me trying to like track. Okay. And mind you, maybe I need to stop doing this.
[00:05:04] But 15 minutes in. And mind you, and I also don't know why. Like, I don't know who I'm writing this to. But it's like, oh my God. I think I have my favorite three teams. Okay. That's what I wrote. That is Liz and Michael. I'm not even on the list. Uh-huh. Continue. Seth and Olive. Uh-huh. Ashton and Vank. Okay. Like, obviously, I love you, Scott. That's fine. Whatever. Continue. But I mean, like, I just, I love you in real life. So, like, that goes without saying.
[00:05:33] But, like, the way I'm on this Vank and Ashton train. I'm on the train. The way I, mind you, this is 15 minutes in. Seth and Olive, Olive, and Liz and Michael. Like, I feel like. Oh my God. This is 15 minutes in. Liz and Michael low-key kind of are like, my winner picks at this point. You're going to be so mad at me later in the season.
[00:06:01] Now, my other thing that, before we record it. Mm-hmm. I wanted to tell you that, like, again, I know how you feel about your edit on this. And, like, you know, you're always. Dare I say, bitch, I kind of find you hilarious. Thank you. And these little clips of you, like, it's like you're complaining, but you're not complaining. But, like, you're not really because you can't really complain when you're doing something.
[00:06:31] Like, I find them to be hilarious. Thank you. I will say, and watch, I haven't watched it in a long time. So, watching it back, I'm watching and going, oh, that's not bad. Okay. Okay. I remember the first time around thinking, oh, this was worse. Like, this came across worse. But then I realized we're only in episode three. And, like, it's hard. Don't get me wrong. This stuff is hard.
[00:06:58] People, anyone who's done the race any season, whether it was, like, season five where they did 70 gazillion miles or season 36 where they did seven miles. Love you, Ricky and Sage. They're joking around. Not your fault. We'll tell you. It is. It is hard. That being said, it gets so much harder. And as there are less teams, certain teams get more airtime.
[00:07:23] And as certain people go home who are, like, the big complainers, other people need to be edited to take their place. So, that's all the foreshadowing I will give you. And if you're listening and not watching, you haven't seen me point at myself for the past 30 seconds. So, you know, turn on the YouTube. Um, and let's talk about the episode. What do you think? Yeah, it's okay. This is a great episode. Very interesting. I mean, the way I got cussed out.
[00:07:52] Like, again, we're episode three. And I'm like, I haven't really been giving cuss outs out. Hey, babe. I got cuss outs on cuss outs. I got at least three cuss outs coming. But I thought this episode was great, fun to watch. And I love how I think sometimes when we start these rewatches, uh, or just even when we start seasons, there's like so much pressure in my head where I'm like, I have to like it, right? Like, I've got to like it because Brooke and I have to podcast about it.
[00:08:21] And I think every season of Amazing Race that we have watched, I've always felt like that. But I love how like after the first episode, going into the second, going into the third. And this point is like, I had to rewatch episode three because when I first watched it, Brooke, I didn't even take no notes. I just was, you know, sitting on my bed naked and I'm just enjoying it. And then I was like, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Me and Brooke kind of podcast about this. That's fantastic.
[00:08:50] I watched it the same way. Yes. No, I didn't. I didn't. I watched it clothed. Because Bacon's with me. And then it's like a little bit weird. Is it weird? I don't know. So he because he gets very like he likes to just he's old. Bacon's 13. And he's also a snuggle bug. And so, like, if I'm laying in the bed, he'll just come and plop on top of me. And then it's like, I don't know. I don't need to hurt a boob contest. Sorry, my parents. OK, sorry. But also, I kind of do agree with that.
[00:09:19] I never thought about that as you were talking. I was saying, because again, in the summertime, my apartment is hot because I don't cut on my heat. Not my heat, my air. Oh, you and the heat. The air conditioning. I know. You don't put on the heat till it's November. No. January. No. No. That's ridiculous. I don't put my heat on till January. And I try to hold out my air condition until mid-July. But it's like warm in Philly. And it's not. It's like really comfortable.
[00:09:47] But it's so funny because my turtle, Kimmy. Shout out to Kimmy. Shout out to Kimmy. She's in like my formal dining room. And so if I am in the nude, when I walk by the dining room, I do cover up because I'm like, I don't need my child to see me naked. But OK. All right. So I don't close all my shades because I think nobody cares in New York. But like if I'm walking around naked, the funny part is like I won't care about the shades. But like if I'm by the dog, you're right. I cover myself. I'd be like.
[00:10:18] OK. Whatever. It's weird. It's weird. It is a little weird. And I think I had told you last episode, need to start putting clothes on because, you know, if I have an Amazon delivery or like, you know, a food delivery, when it says it's like being outside, like I'll just go run to the door. Oh, am I? Oh, I'm like, ah, shut it. But anyway, let's get into. OK. OK. We're going.
[00:10:45] Speaking of nakedness, episode three begins where it ended. And that is my lovely Shamar junk. My junk. My love. OK. Because he kicked the episode off. Sarah is like we're around these people and like they're like it's happy to. Essentially, Sarah is like I'm happy to get away from him and be around other people. And she's like two seconds later. Here goes Shamar. Oh, yeah. I was really in Shamar.
[00:11:14] It was really in my groin. My groin. It was every time I propelled. I'm like, if you're not going to pull it out and show us, stop talking about it. Meanwhile. And then you see, like, I'm chatting with Sarah. Scott's chatting with Shamir stirring the pot. Oh, yeah. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Like he's just he's the best little pot stirrer. He's so fun. And so, OK, we're going to Africa. The U-turn is making its first appearance for the season. And notes this season, you can use as many U-turns as you want. You're not.
[00:11:42] Sometimes it was if you used one, you couldn't do it again. This is blind U-turns. This so nobody even is going to know who you turn them. And this is as many as you want. So behind the scenes, we all flew from Brazil to South Africa. And then there was a second flight from South Africa to Tanzania. Right. And so this first flight was maybe the most fun I've ever had on an airplane in my life because all the teams are on the same flight.
[00:12:11] Beverages are complimentary on international travel. And nobody was getting off the plane and running because there was a second plane to go to. So it was just we had the most fun. And I will I do very much remember a flight attendant coming to our section of the plane and being like, guys, you got to keep it down a little bit like you guys are. We were we were rowdy and just having such a nice time because there are very few times on the race where you can genuinely just sort of like let it all go.
[00:12:39] And you're not actively racing, but you're still around people. And so it was just so much fun. We all got to know each other better. We all played cards. We all had some beverages and it was a great time. So I love that because I was thinking like, obviously, but like Liz and Michael, them being at the end of the pack. I love how episode three is like the reset, like everyone's starting at the same spot. So I was like, OK. And again, this is still two minutes in the episode.
[00:13:08] So they weren't myself top three proclaimed team just yet. And so I just was thinking to myself, like, oh, this is great for them to get a restart. Also, I love how during this part where Shamir and Sarah, we see like the disconnect. But I also love how all of the teams are talking like, yeah, like I love my partner. Like the more like Beck and Floyd, the more and more we talk, the more and more we complement each other.
[00:13:36] And like I love Scott, got the brick of Scott. Brooks like, well, I don't really know that mother like dad. And I'm still trying to figure him out. Scott and I are real heart to heart at the end of the second episode because we are just we're both very type A. And we both this was number one on my list of things to do before I died since the first episode came out when I watched it forever ago. And so we both had this like goal and we both, you know, and you think about who am I going to do this with? And this strangers.
[00:14:06] We didn't know how to deal with each other yet. We had a real heart to heart. And, you know, as the season goes on, we do. I was going to say better, but there are some ups and downs right now. We're going to we're OK. So anyway, Liz and Mike are in first at 847. You have Venk and Ashton a minute later. Matt and Red a few minutes after that. Seth and Oliver in fourth and Beck and Floyd. Brooke and Scott are at 957. Tara and Joey a minute after that. London and Logan at 1004.
[00:14:34] And Shamir and Sarah at 1123. So you know how long he was up there hanging around because it was like an hour and 20 minutes between teams eight and nine. And we were all there at the same time. Right now, I think I was saying Liz and Michael. I meant Shamir and Sarah being on the plane together. It like should be able to give them a reset. But I don't think they sat together. But not everyone. I mean, we just you weren't required to sit with that. We were all just I don't remember any.
[00:15:03] There was no drama on that flight. That flight was just pure fun. So we have to fly to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, six thousand miles, which was all more than I wrote, more than all of season 36. Why am I so hard on season 36 in my notes? Because I know Ricky and Sacer want to come on and recap one of these. I know they're going to give me so much grief because they have in real life before. So I'm getting in little jabs when I can. OK, Matt and Redmond talk about how they're team man and their team no drama.
[00:15:32] And meanwhile, Shamir is most of the drama so far. So men are not not dramatic. Like Vank and Ashton are still talking about how they want to U-turn Matt and Redmond because they hold a grudge and payback is a bitch. Is it Vank and Ashton or is it Ashton? OK, and I love her and I love her for that. OK, because she is self-aware and she is owning her grudges. And that's fine.
[00:15:59] And again, this is what I said in episode two, right? Like, sure. Is it a little bit petty? Yes. But this is the bed that Redmond and Zach Matt lay in. Mind you, I really do feel like Michael's name needs to be Redmond. Like that's every time I say Redmond. Because he isn't Redmond. I know, but you've got to get this right. You'll get it. You'll get it eventually. I want to call Redmond Brock. So let me. Dude. So let me say one thing I want you to remember.
[00:16:29] Liz and Mike are in their taxi. And they say they want to U-turn somebody. It is a game for a million dollars. The U-turn is made to be used. Just remember that. I'm just going to put that here. Leave it alone. File it away. OK, fire it. Remember that for the future. OK. And Seth and Oliver are very aware that the U-turn is coming for them. Because they are the top performers and they're right. So, oh, then we cut to Brooke and Scott and their cab. And Scott's wearing this hat. This hat says quiche on it.
[00:16:59] When I tell you about this hat, a little behind the scenes thing. I think it was Olive's hat. This hat made its way around the cast. And it was basically given to someone who did something that was hard for them the leg before. So Scott overcame his fear of heights. So he puts on this hat. The hat was offered to me for leg five. Just letting you know. I was like, I don't understand quiche. You give it elsewhere. And so I think we gave it to Vang. But everything was quiche this leg with Scott. This and that. And I was like, oh, my God. I was going to throw the hat out the window.
[00:17:28] But it wasn't mine to throw out the window. But I do like that they were editing. I'm like, I'm too old for this. And he's like, no, you're not. Well, we just have like a cute little banter. I like that. I don't remember the cute banter. I remember the on the next episode. Brooke hits her breaking point. So we haven't gotten there yet. Oh, we will. Okay. So we all get to Tanzania. Everybody gets in their cabs. And there is just so much traffic. It is. But everybody's cabs are like right near each other.
[00:17:58] And the camaraderie is still really good. Like you see Matt and Redmond being like, we're just going to let us in. Like it was just very cute. Like everyone's getting along. Side note, we're running to the cab. And why am I running like my arms don't work? I'm like running with no arm movement. And I'm like, Brooke, you look stupid. I don't know why I wrote that down. So everybody gets to the monument we're supposed to go to. And there's this newspaper stand. And you see in the newspaper. I love when clues are like this. You know me.
[00:18:28] I like when it's not just a clue box. We see this ad in the newspaper. I love the forethought for us. And it just says, you know, travel to Zanzibar for your next clue. It doesn't say anything about the amazing race. It just says fairy times. And you see the little red and yellow. So we knew it was for us. But we were all on the floor, like scouring the papers, like in the dark with our little headlamps on being like, what, where? So we all find it.
[00:18:51] And we all go to the ferry terminal where Matt and Redmond immediately cut the line. Now, please tell us about this. I didn't see them cut the line. They're just at the front of the line. And I've like kept rewinding it back to see like how did they get in the front of the line? Did they like ask someone or they just went straight to the front? Right. So I believe if my memory serves me correctly, like there was this one line and then there was sort of a second line and they just went.
[00:19:21] Everyone was on the one line and they just sort of went to the second line. And Ashton, of course, is rallying the troops against them now. And Scott, of course, is starting at the popping like, oh, yeah, because, you know, they didn't honor your agreement. I'm laughing. Because we're all on the same ferry. So I think it's funny. Otherwise, I probably would not have thought it was funny. But we're told we're all going to be on the same ferry. And that ferry ride was, again, just like the flight. So fun. Like the wind in your hair and everyone's. How long was it?
[00:19:50] That one was a couple of hours, but not super long. Later in the season, there was a much longer boat ride. I mean, I think you'll remember we talked about this on a previous season that the Amazing Race used to have at least one 24 hour train ride, bus ride, huge boat. Some very, very long. Ours was a boat. Or a train or. And I think in the last season with Kim and Chip, they were on a bus.
[00:20:21] Yes, there was a bus. Like an overnight. Yeah. OK. And I remember the Greg and John season where they had to be on that bus and you were like laying in your coffin. Yeah. So a fairly uncomfortable, very long extended travel something. But this one was nice because the weather was beautiful. The only thing that I will say, London, my dear friend London, does not love. She likes animals, but she like has like a little bit of trepidation around animals,
[00:20:50] especially chicken. For some reason. I don't know. There were live chickens on this ferry, like a bunch of them. People bringing home dinner. Clearly. And we had to go roaming free or just like they were. Yeah, they weren't in cages. But they weren't like, you know, packing at passengers. They were with the people who were taking the chickens home. And she was like, excuse me, can I move your chicken to go to the restroom? Like. Was it halal? No. I guess it wasn't halal at that point. We were alive.
[00:21:17] Which if any New Yorker worth their salt will know what a halal chicken is because we have the carts all around the city for halal chicken. So when Joey does that task, I think that's hilarious. Okay. So we're on this ferry. That is great. We get off the ferry. We run our faces off and we are trying to get to the blind U-turn board. Like I said, you can use as many U-turns this season as you want. But this one, no one gets to know who did it to you. So going to the U-turn board, Bank and Ashton pass Matt and Redmond and Matt and Redmond
[00:21:46] immediately know it's going to be them. And Bank and Ashton own it. But Tara and Joey do not. They boldface lie and say, we didn't U-turn anybody. I don't know what you're talking about. Matt and Redmond know immediately that they're lying. So Tara and Joey, U-turn, Seth and Olive. And Bank and Ashton, U-turn, Matt and Redmond. And see, this is what makes, this is where I start getting upset because I'm like, okay. This is probably about 15 minutes in. Yes.
[00:22:13] And this is where I'm like, I love Seth and Olive. And like, they're my team. And this is, goes to what I say about what I know about the Amazing Race from the seasons that I have watched. If you are a strong team, it does not benefit you in these first couple of legs to be such a strong team. Like, I feel like being in the middle of the pack.
[00:22:40] Like, and if you are a strong team, I'm like, work with other teams, right? Like, just kind of like disguise yourself. Because again, we're at episode three and I'm like, I love Matt and Olive. Seth and Olive, you're going to get it. But it's okay. You don't need to remember it after today. Anyway. So we get to the detour thing and it says, build it or weave it. But wait. Yeah. We already know what we're doing. Build it or weave it. And build it. Which, by the way, it didn't look it.
[00:23:08] But this was one of my favorite tasks we did on the entire show. Because you know me and children. And we got to spend a little bit of time with, like, the local kids. And I just, my face lit up. They were all so happy and cheering. And it was just this. I loved this. And I wish they had shown a little bit more of it. But so it's build it where you have to build two desks for the local school children. Carry those desks to the school. And then say some words in Swahili to get your clue.
[00:23:37] One more side note. And then I'll stop with the side notes. But one of the things I prided myself on when I was auditioning for the show was, look, I'm not fast. I'm not strong. But I'm smart. And I learned to say, do you know where, like, something is in, like, nine languages. And casting was like, all right, give it to us. And one of them was Swahili. And I was like, we'll never need to know this in, like, for the race. But here you go. And then it turned out we had to speak Swahili.
[00:24:05] So that's why you're smart. Anytime I go to a different country that the language is not my native tongue, I always learn how much is. Because I feel like you could just build on how much is in so many places. That's fair. You need, like, a couple of key terms are helpful. Okay, so the other option is Weavit, which is where you get to meet Butterfly. Oh, bae, bae.
[00:24:32] I had a note because although Butterfly wasn't a judge, and if you are new here on the Pit Stop with Brooke and I, Brooke and I obsess over the judges. Like, we love a good judge. We've seen some okay judges. I think the last episode with the guy that was, when we were building the workout equipment, that, like, big buff guy. He was okay. But, like, we need a standout judge.
[00:25:01] It was Butterfly twerking on 30 feet up on the pole for me. 30? Uh-uh. Butterfly was way up there. Like, and with no, like, safety harness. He had ropes around his things. He just had something between his feet. And, like... And that's... And you want to know why? Mm-hmm. Because Shamir told him not to put the harness on. Okay? That's why Butterfly ain't have no harness. Shamir forewarned him.
[00:25:30] Shamir walked so Butterfly could twerk. Okay? Okay. So, he'll climb a tree. He'll get you palm fronds. And you have to make two baskets to move on. Okay. So, wait. So, you... Also, as we are getting... Is it to the... When you guys debark from the ferry and you guys are going to the boats, is this when Redmond has his words with Bank and Ashton?
[00:25:58] And, like, for me, this is... And at this point, this is when I really knew I loved Ashton. Because it's the way that Matt and Redmond, although it was really Redmond, try to act like they don't care. Right? But clearly, the way that they are talking... And at this point, it's really only the Bank. And first of all, Redmond, I'm on your side. But I'm starting to see your nasty side. And not too much on Bank.
[00:26:25] But they really kind of start... And at first, when Redmond is talking, it sounds very, like, jovious. Right? But, like, it continues. And then, like, when he starts saying, weak. The weak. Like, I'm like, okay. Okay, Redmond. Don't be mad because they got a leg up on you. Oh, dang. Where's my bell? There you go. So, yeah. So, to get to the detour, we have to get on these boats called Dows. I loved this boat. This was so cool.
[00:26:54] But you have to, like, wade through the water to get there. And this is where my sneakers had to be thrown out after this episode of the race. Can I just say something? When you had to get onto the Dows, you know what episode this was made for if you make it long enough on The Amazing Race. Who? This was made for Jeff and Pops. Jeff barely would have got onto that boat amazingly because a lot of people kept their sneakers on. Okay? Shout out to Jeff.
[00:27:24] Because, you know, he loved a little sneaker in the ocean. Forget sneakers. Liz had jeans on. She must have weighed 400 pounds by this little, like, woman. Must have weighed so her jeans were. Okay. Anyway. This is where Tara and Joey lie about using some. Did you have Crocs? Did I see Crocs? They, so what was given to... Yeah. So everybody got a pair of Crocs to walk through the water because they didn't want us to feel like we had to keep our shoes on. And it was for safety for the bottom of the ocean.
[00:27:53] Were you able to keep them or did you have to return them? No, we, you were, they were left on the boat when you were right after the boat. You didn't keep those. I didn't know Crocs were out in 1992, but that is a good thing. They've been around for a while. Yeah. So this was 2016, but okay. So Tara and Joey are lying. Redman is telling Vank, you should be scared. And Vank's like, okay. Right. Love. So people thought Red was being a bully. Like, I, I know him. I thought it was all in good fun.
[00:28:22] I mean, and Brooke's sitting on the boat going better than us. Like, which is really just my mindset at this point is like anybody but us. And just to go back 30 seconds, sorry, because I did take notes. Another reason why before they even U-turned Redman and Matt, why Vank became, why he stole my heart when he's in the cab and he is, pulls his compass out and he's like, yeah, it's going the right direction.
[00:28:51] I said, oh, Vank. Love. I love. I mean, come on. How do you not love Vank? You can't. I dare you to not love Vank. So, okay. So everyone gets to the detours and everybody except London and Logan and the people who have to do both decide to build it. London and Logan decide she's an artist. She is going and she's an amazing artist. Like I told you, I've gotten to crochet with her and she taught me how to do it, but she's
[00:29:19] like this one, this one's mine, you know, something for everybody. And so they go to weave it. She looks hard. Like, I don't, I don't know that I could do, it might've taken a long time, but they go there. And then when Matt and Redman start to get it and they don't, London's like, scrap this, we're going to the other one. So they leave. And I know she felt a little badly about that because she's like, this is my specialty, like art stuff. But it was very different and very specific. So no issue with switching, especially because they weren't far apart.
[00:29:48] And if you're not going to get it, they made a quick enough decision to scoot out of there. So the build it part, I didn't love the building, loved the school kids, but also they made it seem like they gave you all of these like properly fitting dowels and stuff to put into this like kind of Ikea-esque desk thing. This was like find sticks on the ground for half of your dowels and get them into the holes. And then the judge is going to come around and beat the ever living crap out of this
[00:30:17] desk, some more than others. And also I sort of think, I think it was Liz and Mike, I think whose desk like fell apart kind of on the way to the school. And I was like, they should have to go back and finish this. Like, I don't think they should get to keep going. The kids are going to break it by sitting on it. So whatever, Matt and Red go to the weaving first because they want to get it out of the way. They think it'll be harder and there is nothing they can't do. This is where we started to see that Matt and Redman could do anything and could do it quickly.
[00:30:47] Red's making a dozen dad jokes. Fine. And this was the smart way to do it. If everyone's going to one thing, go do the other because especially if it's the harder one, get it out of the way first by yourself, calm and not worried about what everyone else is doing. And then go to the second half. They get to the second half before half the teams have finished it. Like these two were monsters. Okay. So Seth and Olive get their desk on the first try, but there's there in the back because
[00:31:16] they still have to then go do the other half. Let's see who is actually, actually Liz and Mike then do it. The guy smashes their desk a little bit and you should have smashed harder because that was falling apart. They are what it was. And then I mean, I don't know. And then they make their way to the schoolhouse and they are moving. And then I don't think anybody really had a horrible time. Tara and Joey get it fast.
[00:31:44] I mean, Shamir, Shamir, Sarah was struggling. Yeah. And again, talking about getting a splinter. I'm like, it's okay. You have a splinter like all the credit. I mean, and frankly, this is the kind of thing where like Shamir might have mentioned a splinter one time, but like editors were like, we're going in for the splinter. Like, yeah. You know, but the thing, the splinter didn't get me. It was like him kind of the way he was like rushing Sarah.
[00:32:10] And I was like happy for Sarah to be like, bitch, do you not see me? I've been giving it my all just like you've been giving it my all. Okay. My sister don't put my IKEA stuff together. Right. Yeah. She, he was like, do you hear me? Do you hear me? And she's like, yeah, I'm doing that. Like that was not a match made in heaven, but that's okay. I think the only, I'm trying to think like if teams were to be switched, like maybe a Shamir
[00:32:39] and Ashton and a Vank and Sarah, I don't know. Like that might have been the only switch that would have been like a more zen pair and a more, she wanted big muscles. I almost felt like it should have been a Shamir and a Redmond because like a part of me, just a little part of me feels like, just my take and my job, I'm loving everybody. But when Redmond is having these explosive, okay, let's just be clear.
[00:33:06] Like they're explosive remarks to Vank and Ashton, the way it's edited, right? Like we're like, are they serious or not? Not like, but again, every time with Shamir, it is, we know it's like, so I'm just saying that the stark differences of how the edit is portraying these two men does leave me to think a little, but as you know.
[00:33:34] I can't wait for you to watch more because I want you to see like the evolution of some people. So it's going to be fun to see like your feelings as it continues to go on. So anyway, yeah, I'm flipping out a little bit, but I can realize honestly, watching it back now, we were in third place at this point. I'm like always thinking we're in the back and we have nowhere to go but up, but we're doing fine. Beck and Floyd is all Brooke is negative, but like, no, Brooke is a realist.
[00:34:01] And okay, so anyway, foreshadowing, foreshadowing. Okay. Cause we saw, we saw Becca. No, we saw Rebecca. And I loved it. This is one of the best moments. Okay. So Liz and Mike are in first. I don't even know who's in second because whatever. Oh, Tara and Joey are in second. Brooke and Scott are in third. Ashton and Vank fourth. Beck and Floyd fifth. And then I don't, I don't know some other people in some other places. It's fine.
[00:34:31] And Seth and Olive get to the weaving rat and Matt and red rat and Medman get to the death. And the long and short of it is everyone finishes all of their stuff. And we all have to travel to this Darjani market for the next clue. No one's really behind at this point. Seth and Oliver finishing their second of the detours. And Shamir and Sarah, um, have taken the splinters out of his hand and are finishing the first,
[00:34:58] but those two are bringing up the rear at this point. So we get to the market and the roadblock, the first, no, that's why second roadblock of the season says who was ready to do some market research. I loved this. Yes. We didn't do it right, but I loved it. You get a list and you have to lose your leg money, which is not a normal thing for the amazing race. But I love that they did this. Use your leg money to buy everything on the list, including a live chicken that will be slaughtered in front of you.
[00:35:26] Should you desire to watch that happen in front of your face? One of the guys like, do you want to come with me to see the chickens? I'm just, I'll take it when it's done. I don't need to watch it. I understand the process, but, um, I would have been saying like, why don't y'all just buy a chicken already killed and then take it. But I'm like, I know the producers would have been there and they probably would have pulled you cause you didn't. But I was thinking like, just buy one of them chickens. That's already. But we had to do it.
[00:35:56] It was specifically on the list that it had to be slaughtered in a certain way so that we could hand it over and they can make their dinner. So Joey gets to the roadblock first. Um, he is the only person I think who brings a live chicken to the lady at the end. And so he has to go back and get his chicken and then go back again. Mike gets there second. He is a beast. This is, this is Mike. Mike is a chef. He is a butcher.
[00:36:24] He was having the best time in the market ever. And I think he was a savior. He's giving me savior vibes. Cause I'm trying to figure out what have you not done? Because I feel like we're only peeking a little bit into his closet. I feel like there are more. A lot of running is the answer to your question. Well, he'll tell you. Him and Brooke, not runners. But that's, that's. This is, I was, uh, first of all, Vank. Vank is the only one that did it right. Okay.
[00:36:54] Vank is the only, cause that Vank did it how I would have did it. I would have been like. Matt did it right too. Matt did it right. Matt found one guy. And that guy was like, I'll get through everything. And then he passed everyone. Cause that's what I was thinking. Like I would have been, I would have tried to find me a little medium age man. And I would have been a, a dance in distress.
[00:37:20] If you can help me now, mind you, one of the moves that I think you did that piss me off was, which I thought it was smart. Right. Like when you guys all work together. Right. I'm not mad at that. But when you was like, well, I'll pay for this. And then y'all pay for that. And at this point in time, we had already seen like the money being kind of funny with other people. And so in my mind, I'm like, girl, what are you doing? Don't do that.
[00:37:43] But I also love how my girl Brooke, she don't play because I think London was like, well, I got this. And Brooke was like, ah, I pay 32,000 pounds. Okay. And there was no drama. We were getting along fine. Like there was no like anger with any of it. The reason that we were, we weren't in the back. And I was like, this market is huge and it's a maze. And so best to keep some people with me because worst case, everyone else gets out of here. At least I know I have two other people with me.
[00:38:11] But the, we also thought if we bought in bulk, we would get better pricing. So we're like, if we work together and then it wasn't going to be like we each one person buys this, one person buys that. We thought it would be a faster way to do it. Now she thought she was at the Costco's of Tanzania market, girl. Yeah. Buy in bulk. It's always cheaper. The thing is this though, and they didn't show it. But like, remind me to tell you a little something about when we get to the pit stop. So anyway, Mike is in first.
[00:38:40] Then you have Joey who gets his second chicken and they're in second. Then got a lot of help. Did it right. At the end goes, can I just have a dollar back? Just looking at it. And also very smart because you never know if you're going to need a dollar for something. So. Thumbs up. Do you see, do you, I know Becca and Floyd got the fun meter, but do you see my heart meter growing for Vank each time? Oh, he got changed. Smart. He got changed.
[00:39:08] And then, um, let's see, Matt, who has now done two detours and a roadblock is in fourth. And then you have Floyd, London and Brooke all together. Do you know that I misspelled my own name in writing them? No, just here. There's an E. Okay. I don't know why I fixed it. Silly. Uh, Floyd, London and Brooke all basically together. And we're all heading to the pit stop. And at this point, let's leave the roadblock for a minute because you have these two teams who are going to battle it out for last place.
[00:39:37] So where is my, okay. So at the pit stop, first of all, this was known as a season of stairs. Every pit stop. Let's see. A lot of the pit stop. One, two, three, four, like seven or eight of the pit stops. They're all behind me in these pictures. Um, stairs and not like 10 stairs. Like this was like climb to the top of a hotel. No elevator. And, um, see from New York with no walk-ups, walk-ups.
[00:40:06] I live on the second floor. Okay. So you have to go to this rooftop, live in micro and first they win. And again, a trip to Amsterdam. Mike takes this one. I was going to ask you that. I have a note. I said, now who took this one? Mike took this one. Um, Tara and Joey come in second. And in one of the best, the last 15 minutes of this episode have so many things that happen that are just ridiculous. Okay. So the first thing that happens is Bank and Action get to the pit stop.
[00:40:36] They're talking about, they did, they had to U-turn, you know, now, you know, I hold a grudge and a grudge. And after talking, it feels like, well, another team is coming. Phil knows who's coming. Ooh. Ooh. Ooh. And up walks Redmond and Matt, who are like, what's up, guys? Now, although I'm mad at Redmond this episode for coming at them, baby, seeing them on a mat together and going back and forth.
[00:40:59] And also just seeing Bank not really kind of like, but it's really Ashton and Redmond. And Redmond's like, you know what, actually, I like, I like Bank. It's Ashton. And mind you, and I love the fact that, first of all, nobody can't, no one, I don't know this to be true, but Ashton has to have brothers.
[00:41:20] Like, Ashton has to have brothers because the way that Ashton goes back at Redmond, like, baby, I got friends outside of this. Like, the way Ashton sticks it to him, I love it. And again, it's just making me love Vlank and Ashton. And at this moment, I did forgive Redmond and Matt, right?
[00:41:46] Because I was like, okay, now I'm excited because I feel like Redmond is like, now y'all need to watch out. So now it's like, in every episode, I'm going to be, where's Redmond and Matt versus, like, so now, like, it's like, I'm like, ooh. I do think, like, we're not supposed to have any, like, inter-team communication, like, once the leg is over, like, and the cameras are off.
[00:42:09] But I do very much remember between legs here, there, I think they actually filmed it for the, they may, this might be a spoiler for the next episode. I don't remember if it's shown at the beginning of the next episode, but the four of them had, like, a talking it out session at the hotel between the two legs. It might be shown. We'll see. If it's shown, it's shown in the first minute of the next episode, so I'm not really ruining anything.
[00:42:31] My only issue, sorry, I'm going to harp on this, is that, like, I just feel like Matt and Redmond are acting, or I should more say Redmond. Yeah. You're acting so surprised, right? Like, y'all made disagreement with them. Like, that's the only part that's kind of, like, frustrating me a little bit. It's like, y'all acting like y'all didn't make this coin toss with them, and they're just coming after you prematurely,
[00:42:54] which is why I said on that episode, it would have behooved them to just wait a little bit because, like, I feel, but I don't know, because I also feel like Redmond and Matt, I feel like they might work better with a little fire under their butt. And I think at the beginning of the episode when Seth was like, we don't want to be anywhere, we want to start this away from Matt and Redmond, because if we are doing well, it's going to put a fire under their butt.
[00:43:19] And we see when Matt and Redmond get to the other side of the detour, and they see that teams are still there, it lights a fire under their butt. So I don't know which way to call it, where it's like, maybe actually this might be good for their game, because them having an arch nemesis might actually propel them. I love that they're arch nemesis now. That's pretty funny.
[00:43:44] Okay, so basically, not London, Ashton's like, we're even now a mess. Like, okay, like, he's forgotten about this already. Like, the two of them are just like, it wasn't a big deal. And the other two are like, vengeance is mine, or one, like the vengeance is mine. But they do hash it out, and I think everything is going to be fine. Now, here's the other thing that happens. Beck and Floyd, London and Logan, and Brooke and Scott basically caravan to the pit stop. What? What?
[00:44:12] Oh, no, no, I'm just, I'm just, I'm breathing. You're preparing yourself. Okay. So the thing is this, we have all, the three of us who did the roadblock, all just sort of like threw our money at the roadblock. And I had thrown more money, and Floyd had owed me a little bit of money from it. And we didn't have money to pay our cap. But thankfully, Floyd was right next to us in their cap. I'm like, dude, I need that cash. And so he gave it back to me. Now, wait a minute. Wait a minute, Miss Brookham High. Are you the reason?
[00:44:42] What? Because he was so flustered getting cash. Are you the reason? Nope, nope, nope. Are you? Because Becca was carrying their cash, and Floyd was carrying his passport. So let's talk a little bit about the drama. Let me make a note for women from Scott. Don't you dare blame me for this. Oh. I actually don't even know that Scott is aware of this. Because like, he was ready to go, and I was like, I need to pay. So I actually don't even know that he would know. But maybe he would. We could ask him. So here is the drama.
[00:45:11] So Becca and Floyd check in fifth. They get up on the mat with Matt and Redmond and Bank and Ashton. They are smiling. Feels like, where's the fun meter? You know he's baiting them a little bit. She's like, off the charts. This is amazing. No one has a bigger smile than Becca. Blah, blah, blah. And then London and Logan and myself check in six and seven. And then Becca and Floyd are brought back out. Because after you check in at a pit stop, you go to see the producers. And they check your passport. They check your leg money.
[00:45:39] And you have to give in all your clues. Whatever. Apparently, someone has left their passport in a taxi. You did, however, see the taxi driver of Jewel said, take my card in case you need it. And Floyd took it. And thank God he took it because they start calling around. So they're told that Floyd doesn't have his travel documents. And so Phil's like, go find it in all of Africa. And good luck. And so. The way I was so pissed at them.
[00:46:07] But the way I became Becca, because I was like, if I'm, because I always imagine I'm on the amazing race with Wendell. And like, this is one of the moments I would have lost my shit. And I'm like, oh, Becca and Floyd, they're so nice. Becca's going to be nice to Floyd about it. And they're like, no. Becca was like, you, you, what are you doing? Like, I, ooh. The way that- There wasn't a rule that you couldn't be physically abusive to your part. I think she would have swung. She just was. But I love Becca. Understandably.
[00:46:36] Like, don't lose your shit. Right. So in just the best coincidence ever, Abdul came back to the cab driver, came back to the hotel with droids passport. Did you drop this? One of the best things I noticed because I knew what the rules were is you get like a briefing before every country of like do's and don'ts and whatnot. And there are certain countries in the world where same sex interactions are illegal and
[00:47:05] or just not accepted. So we were told that the men, there couldn't be any, I don't remember the exact wording, but basically no hugging, kissing, or affectionate touching of same sex people. Right. So Abdul shows up with a passport and you can see, go back and rewatch the last three minutes. You'll see Floyd go, oh my God, and go to hug him and then realize he's not allowed to hug him and shake his hand in that moment.
[00:47:32] And just the relief that Floyd feels and Becca and Floyd then go back up and they are then told that they are now, I guess they're now team eight because Shamir and Sarah have checked in. So this whole changing of order is something that will also come back later. So mark this down as well. The thing about the U-turn and the thing about the U-turn. And then the thing I got to ask Scott, if you would have wanted made Lloyd lose his passport.
[00:48:00] No, but remember those two things. Okay. So anyway, three things. So hit back to the roadblock. You have Sarah there who they have no money left because they've given their cab driver extra money too. So, and then Sarah's like, use your leg money. Oh no, what am I supposed to do? So she's in there trying to haggle and get things for free. And Seth and Olive show up and they only have Brazilian money. They haven't changed their money over and had too much extra money from the last leg in a
[00:48:30] different currency. So you've got someone who's running out of money and someone who has a currency that is not used in this country. And it really was fairly close. Yeah. So many flashbacks. What season was it with the bowling moms? Five. Five. Aren't they five? So child, I was having flashbacks with them in a taxi when it was like Shamar and Sarah. And then I think that's also the same season where they lost our favorite team, lost their
[00:48:59] passport too. That's Devin Justin. So that was 15. Okay. That was 15. Okay. So then it was season five and 15, but I loved like in this moment, I'm like, because of the rewatch, I'm having season five flashbacks and season 15 flashbacks. I'm like, this is too much. Yep. See, you've now seen enough that things are relating back to previous seasons for you. So Sarah and Shamir get out of there because someone takes pity on Sarah and is like, we'll
[00:49:28] give you stuff for less money. And their cab driver has waited for them, thankfully, and agrees to drive them to the pit stop for free of charge. Seth and Olive decide they're going to run to the pit stop. Good for them. They're in such good shape that they ran through the streets of Stonetown in Zanzibar to find the pit stop. And Shamir and Sarah show up, Becca and Floyd sneak back in there and become eight. And then Seth and Olive are just robbed. We're robbed of the joy of Seth and Olive for the remainder.
[00:49:58] I know. I know. It's such a hard pill to swallow because again, when we did the assessment, finding that Seth was a cop, like I didn't know how to take him, but like he was just, just soft spoken, hard body. Olive is amazing, hardworking. And I loved the fact that when they were leaving to go to the pit stop, Olive, Seth is like, did we settle up? Because like, we can't leave unless we're settled up.
[00:50:27] And Olive's like, I told them, they can go. And Seth, like, and you could just tell that Seth is such a good person because Seth was like, are we good? We good, y'all. Y'all could like, ugh. I did not want to see them leave. And again, like I said at the start of this, 15 minutes into the episode, after everyone is naming them the biggest threat, I'm adding them to my top three teams. Now, do I want to see Shamir and Sarah over Olive and Seth? No. So I'm sad.
[00:50:53] But at the same time, although Olive and Seth are like amazing, Shamir and Sarah are bringing my eyes. They're making me want to watch. So anyway, because I like to do this. Seth is living in Seattle, happily married, still a cop to a wonderful man, loves a good karaoke night. He and I have been out karaokeing several times and he's just, he's just wonderful.
[00:51:19] Olive, I think she's still in Providence, has now at one point started like a home renovation business. Like she's got like a good designer's eye. So the two of those are the, that is the current update for Seth and Olive. Next time, let's watch episode five. No, I believe it goes one, uno, dos, tres, cuatro. Okay.
[00:51:48] So I'm putting all this emphasis on this episode. And mind you, soon as the episode ended, I didn't even wait to see the next time I just turned it off. Okay. I want to. Because you will be, I will say without giving anything away, I am thrilled that Shamir and Sarah are around for episode four. Girl. Uh-huh. Thrilled. Thrilled for that.
[00:52:09] And, um, read your clues, kids, because things can go horribly wrong when you, um, misinterpret a clue. Well, listen, misinterpret a clue or not. Your clue here is very clear. Well, listen, I won't bring a harness if it's Shamar. But all right. When we said we were going to rewatch this season, I was hesitant and next week's episode is one of the biggest reasons for that.
[00:53:04] So, um, so we'll just, you know how, you know, you know, we talk about seasons and, you know, Colin's ox is broken and there's, you know, there's like big things that pushing a girl down the slide. Oh, this is this. Yes. Water wings. Um, I would venture to say episode four of season 29 is a, it's different, but it's a broken ox water wing slide. So, you know, stay tuned.
