[00:01:18] Brooke and I are here. The Summer Rewatch has started, and we are here reviewing, recapping Episode 1 of Season 29. We're figuring out the partners, the pairs. We're figuring out where they go. We're figuring out all of the things. And most importantly, we're trying to figure out, does anybody know how to get to the Panama Canal?

[00:01:54] Now! And we are back! Your Pit Stop duo covering Amazing Race in our Summer Rewatch of Amazing Race Season 29. We are so excited to be here. I just finished watching the episode and I am so excited. Oh, I got so much to talk about. Join me and my co-host. Just welcome back to the podcast.

[00:02:20] A contestant on The Amazing Race Season 29, Miss Brooke Cam High. Welcome back to the podcast. Hello, contestant on Season 29 of The Amazing Race. How are you? Happy that you watched it for the first time probably ever because I don't think you ever watched it before, even though you said that you did, but we'll see. Shut up. First of all, you know I watched it because it's funny how like I go back to my old ways very quickly where I text Brooke. I was like, I'm starting.

[00:02:48] And Brooke's like, I'm going to start later in the day. Child, I was at five minutes into the episode and I am FaceTiming Brooke. Okay. You called me back repeatedly and I'm like, uh-huh. Uh-huh. Again. Hi. You're like, and it's just one sentence. He'll call me and it'll be like, oh, can you believe this? And he goes, okay, got to go by. And I'm like, you called me. And then that happened several times over the course of a few hours. So it was, it's fun when you're watching an episode because I know I'm going to get several phone calls and it's going to just going to be like, I've got to go.

[00:03:18] And then I'll get that same phone call with some new information. Like, I don't know the information. Five minutes later. It's fun. Watch episodes with Bryce. They are fun. Listen, we should do it on Twitch or something. But listen, and so we did our cast assessment last week. Yeah. Last week. And I said, I got some people to cuss out, but I like first episode. Ah, the people that I only got one person really to cuss out, but I'm pissed. Okay. We can start there.

[00:03:49] I'm pissed. You start there. Second, I also forgot that these are 60 minute episodes. Yeah. And don't get me wrong. I love the 90 minute episodes, but I felt like, although this was just 60 minutes, it was a complete episode. So much like y'all didn't do a lot. And there was no roadblock and you don't feel like you missed anything because we had that starting line task.

[00:04:16] So it's 60 minutes, but like you don't feel like anything's missing, but you so much is packed in because they're 60, which was not shorter. That was normal for the first, you know, 20, whatever. See, see, it only just started being 90 minutes. I love the 90 minutes, but I'm just saying like, you're right. We didn't have a roadblock. However, y'all had a lot of tasks of a task of a task, which were like very fulfilling. It was interesting.

[00:04:43] There was like two things that were cracking me up. I was, I'll say, I'll say it now. One, bitch, not Phil driving somebody to the airport. Like, can we get more of that? I love that. But I love how they said that was like a benefit. No, it wasn't. It didn't. Because they didn't even get there, right? Actually, you're right. That being said, I would have been thrilled to get in a car with Phil. Yeah, no, actually, Phil, no, don't drive.

[00:05:13] But I loved it. And then also, when you got your clue for the actual roadblock or detour, y'all don't. Mm-hmm. The fact that Phil, you know how like in the commercials or like, you know, Phil is like, you know, he's walking through the city. Bitch, nah, he doing it in a team, a ride. Oh, yeah. You'll see this. Mm-hmm. He was there.

[00:05:41] People are like, does Phil actually ever go on the course? Or is he just at the pit stop? No, he is there. They are. Like the Purdue, I will say, Elise and Bertram who created this show are, you would think that they're not like everywhere. I don't know how they do it. Maybe they've cloned themselves, but they are everywhere. They are so involved. And they do such a good job of making sure that everyone is so well taken care of. And it is real. Like there, you'll see, I mean, you saw in this episode, in re-watching it, it was so

[00:06:10] strange to see like, we'll talk about it at the end, but like how things happen. But the creators are everywhere. They are so involved in every moment and they're making sure that everything is above board and by the book and that nothing is unfair. Like what happens is really what happens. And Phil is there. He will show up several times throughout this season, like at things. And I will tell you without spoiling anything, there is one time that it's gotten Brooke that see Phil out of place.

[00:06:40] And I'm like, of course that part doesn't totally make it to Eric. He is there when we are there because one time, maybe one time only we're in the front. This is what I needed to get through the episode because I do have a little bit of PTSD. But if my parents asked, it's iced tea. If anybody else asked. But this was so fun to re-watch because it just brings back all the memories and all the feels. And maybe it's because the first episode isn't so hard on Brooke that I didn't have a problem.

[00:07:09] But talk to me and, you know, three more. And we'll see. Okay. Yeah. I didn't know what to expect because you've been such like not a Debbie Downer seriously, but you've just been like, why do we have to do that? Why are we doing it? No, girl. Because we've been telling the people we're doing it. And so I was like, I didn't know what to expect. But it was a, I mean, it was a great first episode. My one question that I don't know if I've ever asked you this,

[00:07:36] but obviously normally when you go on Amazing Race, you know who you're going with. Like you're pairing together. Like I was talking to my girls, Jackie and Lauren, when we were in Texas. And I want to say Lauren moved in with Jackie for two months before they left to get like kind of used to each other. So you knew it was going to. What was your thoughts going into this season, not knowing that it was just you?

[00:08:05] Did you know it was going to be something like this or what were you thinking? So I think it's sort of a double-edged sword because on one hand, it's like you don't know your partner's strengths, weaknesses, fears, any of it. So it's like, you don't, and you don't even know who it's going to be. So it's not even like we didn't get a chance to even, you know, vet each other before we became partners. It's that cab ride to the airport. It's that before the first flight where you're like, okay, what are you good at? What are you good at? What do you like? What are you scared of? What do you hate? Y'all was talking on the flight.

[00:08:35] Oh yeah. Yeah. We had to learn everything about each other really, really fast that everyone sort of was doing that. They allowed y'all to do that? I mean, that's the race is live at that point. The only point where you're not supposed to talk to each other is when between legs, when you're sequestered in your rooms. But when you're waiting for a flight or you're on a flight, yeah, everyone's talking to each other and learning things. And Scott and I were like, he said he's scared of heights. I said, I don't do spiders. I, we, we agreed that if it was eating a lot of something, it was him. If it was eating something weird, it was me.

[00:09:05] Cause I'll try anything once unless it's a spider. Um, which very funny. I, when I was being cast with the casting, Jesse, hi, Jesse, the head of the casting producers. Now what I was like, I'm terrified of spiders. He's like, we've never had a challenge where anyone had to eat a spider. Don't worry. You'll be fine. Cut to like a couple of seasons later where the express passes eat this spider. And I'm like, absolutely not. I, I would, if that would have been something I needed to do to get to the million, I actively

[00:09:32] think that that is the only thing I would not. My, I don't think my brain would have allowed me to do it unless maybe Scott, like smushed it into a million little pieces and I couldn't really tell what it was anymore. And I had to like trick my brain into thinking it was something else, but I don't, I don't know. Something else. I thought you were going to say, I see stuff to down my throat. I guess that's the way I eat a spider too. But wait, so y'all kind of picked already a little bit like y'all and y'all mind. No, no, no, no.

[00:10:00] This is after we were partners and we got on the first flight to Panama. Then it's like, learn everything you can, because we don't know what's coming at us next, but we need to know. We didn't have that Jackie and Lauren experience where we know each other and we can live together and whatever. So it was, so that's like the hard part, but the good part is, so the other edge of the story is if you guys hate each other, you never have to see each other again after, you know, 23 days after that, you could never have contact again.

[00:10:28] So it's not like your siblings or you're a couple and you have to like fix your relationship afterwards. Like if it didn't work out, you'll never talk again. And I do think there are a couple of people who are on this season who never talked to their partner again. So I'm not one of them, but I do think there were a couple. All right. Very interesting. I love how, again, like I was expecting y'all to immediately pick your partner. Like I'm like, Ooh, let's see how it goes down. But no.

[00:10:58] And they didn't tell us how partners were going to, we had no idea running into that park at the beginning. They put you in an order. We didn't pick our order and they said, okay, run. And so we ran into this park in the order they gave us. So I'm thinking I'm next to Logan and I'm next to Seth. And I'm like, okay, count us off. I'll take either one of them. That's cool. I'm fine with that. And we didn't know there was a challenge before to pick your partner. We actually didn't know what happens if, you know, Seth who finished first pick somebody and they didn't want Seth.

[00:11:28] And like, what would happen then if you're, you know, if you get like a veto or anything like that, but it, I will say that I think with very rare exception, the partners were exactly who they were supposed to be. Like, I think it worked out as best as it could have. Yeah. I mean, especially for, uh, Francesca and, uh, Jesse. Ooh. Okay. And I'm like, they starting off spicy, but listen, set us up. Okay. Sorry. You're in the park.

[00:11:59] Yes. So we get, we're in these vans. You're not to talk. Nobody's talking. We get to the park and people are like, some people are like talking to the production people sort of louder so that other people can hear, like they're saying like what they're good. They're talking, you know, when we get to this, people are trying to game the system a little bit, but nobody's talking. We get to the park, we run in and there's Phil like for the first time. And we're all fans. Like this is not, I brought my brother who's never seen the show.

[00:12:28] So this is 22 individual people who all actively applied on their own. So you got a season of people who with rare exception, I don't think Joey will be mad at me for saying this. He watched almost none of the race. Like there were a few people who were like picked, like reached out to, I applied a bunch of times, whatever, but like there are some people who were reached out to. And so for the most part, I will say everybody knew the show, but I think he was like, what's a roadblock? Like I just, that's Joey and all of his love and glory and wonderfulness. Funny you say that.

[00:12:58] Cause again, I was saying on the cast assessment with a couple of these people during the cast time, I could see Joey on Survivor, right? Like I could see his, I could see his art. He give me a little, after this episode, give me a little John Crockett. But I was very interesting from looking at the people's photos. Some of the people were like nothing what I thought. And like, I'm in love with other than people were, they were exactly who I thought. And I love even more.

[00:13:27] And I just have to say, I love my baby. Kevin. Okay. I love Kevin and I love Jen. I love Kevin and Jen. Jen. What? Okay. So, okay. So you get to the starting line. You're told by Phil, you're going to have this task. Now they have taken our backpacks. Normally you're running with your backpack, but for the start line task, our backpacks are meeting us at the airport. So you don't have your backpack. You have your fanny pack and that's it. Now in my backpack, I had a compass.

[00:13:56] I had everything I would have needed for the start line task, but not with me. So you get to the start line and you're told you're going to have to go to this luggage store to pick up this luggage with the Panamanian flag on it. It's two blocks Southwest. It's seven blocks Southeast. I have the sense of direction of whatever the thing is that has the worst sense of direction. And I'm like, oh mother. I don't have my compass. And everyone sort of felt the same way. There were a few people who did, but most people can't have.

[00:14:25] I saw somebody using a watch. Oh, maybe you can have a compass on your watch. You could not have any sort of smart technology at all. Well, girl, girl, this was 1998. I don't think. This is 2016. Anyway, he says, what are you waiting for? Run. And everyone goes on a mad dash. Now, I don't know why, because my sense of direction is trash. I'm not off by myself. I don't know who I think I'm fooling that I go my own merry way. Thankfully I do.

[00:14:52] Cause a group of people get like really lost, which is where Jesse and Francesca have this little, mostly Jesse is like, you told me wrong. I'm following you. And Franny's all, she's spicy. And then it turns out they're partners, but it works out perfectly. Cause they are just the perfect partners together. I was worried for Kevin and Jen. Cause they looked a little lost. I said, Oh Lord. They said, follow the white people.

[00:15:22] I do too. I stopped the guy on the street. I asked to borrow his phone. I'm looking up, which direction is southwest and southeast and the flag and everything. We didn't need to see that. No. They didn't see a lot of things. They cram a lot into this first episode. The football summer is there. Now it's with fiebering, with jubing and even with playing. Click on the banner and get with REWE Bonus, the Vorteil program of the REWE App, you're the match winner.

[00:16:09] And then, um, so it didn't hurt me that this group got lost. Floyd talks about how he memorized every flag and I don't doubt it for a second because he's nutsy like I am as a fan of the race. Um, Joey is the only one who gets the flag wrong, but God like bless him. He, I would have, I would have sat down and cried, but he went back, did it twice and didn't finish that far behind everybody else. Having done it twice. I would wait for a little bit.

[00:16:37] They let us sit and wait, but not long. Like it would have taken me double the time. Um, Liz is running in her cowboy boots and her jeans, which she did say that they were like, they told me to wear these. And I'm like, I bless you that you can run in these in June in LA in jeans and cowboy boots. And then we see Mike who talks about how he's a genius and he is a literal genius. I will say one of the things that he did that will come up in the race a bit is you will

[00:17:06] see him in a bandana every leg of the race. This one, he wore a red bandana. He was smart enough to know that a few seasons before the blind date season, they had pictures that they had to organize from every leg of the race at the end. And so he didn't want to think about when the tasks were. He just figured the order I'm wearing my bandanas is the legs of the race. So I won't even have to pay attention to what else is in the picture. I'll just know based on my own bandana color. Very smart. That is smart.

[00:17:34] I'm a little worried for him because he, as everyone was running, he was. It's a lot of running. People don't know how much running it actually is. He did say he was super, super smart. So like I trusted him. I also love like how we're learning stuff about the people as like we're running into things. And like, you know, Scott tells us he's like a type A. I also love how like Becca, we know that she's like a rock climb instructor.

[00:18:03] And of course they would have her climbing on bags to get. I'm convinced there was a Panamanian flag on the floor level, but she was like, I see that one. I'm going to go for that. Just so she could scale the luggage. And I'm not sure if it was London's partner, but like somebody just knocked all the bags down. And I'm like, no, wait a minute. It was Matt. And he's like, so sorry. Don't say so sorry. Put it back. He did. He did. He's polite.

[00:18:31] So anyway, we all get back to the park. You get Seth first. Then Matt. Then Olive. Shamir. Sarah. Then Scott. You got Becca. Then Bank. Then Red. Then Tara. Then London. Then Floyd. Then Jen. Then Mike. Then Kevin. Then Brooke, who was just so pleased that she was not last because I was convinced when it was running, I was going to be last place. And then Liz, Logan, Jesse, Franny, Ashton, and Joey, who had to run it twice. And if he didn't have to run it twice, he would have been way further up in the list.

[00:18:58] And then Phil said, based on the order you, and we don't know any of this yet, based on the order you finish, you get to pick your partner. Go. So, and so, okay. I'm now I'm thinking, please, at least I finished in the middle. These people don't know me. Maybe I won't get picked last. So I just didn't want to be like the last kid in dodgeball, you know? Right. That's what I was thinking. I was like, oh my God, how nerve wracking must this be? Cause it almost like puts you back at elementary school with dodgeball.

[00:19:26] And like, obviously if you're in the front half of the pack, kind of like signifies like, okay, you know how to navigate on your own, but that's when my, my heart started beating really fast. I was like, I was worried for you and a couple of other people. I was 15. I wasn't 22. So the thing is this during like casting finals. I think I can say this. Like nobody spoke to each other, but we were all like a bunch of us were at the same finals

[00:19:54] week and all in like the same room and talk loud enough that you wanted people to know stuff about you and you could get, you could gauge a little bit of information. Scott and I were in the same finals week. We made eye contact several times. Like you could just tell that we had some sort of like, is it us? Is it up? So when he finished at the top, I was worried that someone was going to pick him at the beginning, but when it got to him, I was like, he's going to pick me. I know it. And he did. So Seth picks Olive because he thinks that she's going to be a better dancer.

[00:20:23] Plus she finished. She was the first girl to finish. She is so strong. And then Matt picks Redmond because he feels like he's a guy who's not going to give up, which I guess makes sense because he's not. I liked it. Mm-hmm. And then no Shamir picks her because he wants to be with the pretty girl. Also, she's super fast. You could also say like, she almost beat you here. So also a good pick for that reason. And then I knew when it was Scott's turn, I was like, I think I'm going to get picked because he knew what was up. So he picked me.

[00:20:52] And then Becca comes along and picks Floyd, which is just. Oh, cool. Yeah. Casting perfection. They couldn't have put it together better. And she doesn't know anything about him. And like, it was just, you're from Colorado. I'm from Colorado. You're this. I'm this. You're the happiest. I'm the happiest. Like they were just. It was funny because then. Vank. Vank. Vank. Like Vank the tank. Vank. Vank the tank. Vank. Vank. Vank. Vank's Ashton.

[00:21:20] Right after she goes, I need somebody big and strong. And Vank's like, who do I want? And Ashton's like. Like not making eye contact. The funny part was when Tara picked Joey. And then she's like, I wanted someone a little more mature. And it's funny because I had to think about it when we did our assessment last week. Right. You told me that she was. One of the old. She was the oldest woman there. She was the oldest woman. And so at first I was like, oh, now why would she call him mature?

[00:21:51] And in my mind, I'm like, Tara, you look older than him. But then I realized she wanted someone mature. I.E. Like she wanted someone around her age. She didn't want like a. So I was like, oh, OK, that makes sense. But without the context, I was like, now Tara. Now she thought maybe it would be less drama. But the two of them, the two of them were a good pair to like we affectionately called the mom and dad at 46 and 38. Mom and dad. Like, that's hilarious. And then. Well, but they were a mom and a dad.

[00:22:20] So I guess that makes sense. And then London says she needs some muscle and picks Logan. I do not know how Logan was still available at this point, but OK. And then Jen picks Kevin, which is your favorite team of the day. Mike picks Liz. And then you have Jesse and Franny who get stuck together, which is funny because they've just had their drama and they get an advantage. We've already discussed is not an advantage with Phil driving them to the airport.

[00:22:45] I didn't realize how I mean, I knew Francesca was a beast. I didn't realize how strong Jesse was until is it? Jesse's the bigger one. OK, six, three. I knew how strong Jesse was. Yeah, I didn't know how strong Francesca was until she started to. I said, oh, this is a team made in heaven. And I was like, well, to be honest.

[00:23:11] I wouldn't be mad if I had somebody that was my partner that I got in a fight with early on. Right. Because that tells me it's like we could rekindle that tension into fuel. Right. And it's like, get the first fight out the way. So I wasn't mad at them. I was also really shocked that it was only one man, man team and one woman, woman team. So it's like really interesting thinking of like people picking the pairs.

[00:23:38] Obviously, I would have thought going into this season, it would have been a lot more man, men on men. You know what? I'm now realizing I said last week that this was that the blind date season probably only had one male, male team. And that's not accurate because they had at least two male, male teams. I don't think they had any female, female teams. But so I'm going to say our season is the only season that has one male, male team, but one female, female team. It makes sense, though. Right.

[00:24:06] Because it's like if you know Amazing Grace, like you know the task. Like, I don't know if I will want to be with somebody as big and strong as me. Like, I want someone that's like quite the opposite so that we could do a range of things. And so, again, I was excited. Then it's like, oh, we're going to the airport. So then we're going to the airport. But first we're being told that there's an express pass in somebody's luggage. So everyone gets in their car. They're so excited.

[00:24:34] Well, before that happens, this is where, you know, Phil gives his speech. The world is waiting. And you know, every time we do this, whether it's a summer rewatch or an actual season, I talk about how like I floated up out of my body and I'm watching this happen. And it's like I'm remembering it. And now I'm watching it actually happen to me. And I just like teared up. Like, this is the moment that you wait as a fan of the show that you wait for. Because this is where Phil like arches his eyebrow. He's like, the world is waiting. Go.

[00:25:00] And it was just I just remember sitting there being like, wow, this is really happening. And then he says go. And I'm like, oh, wait, this is really happening. We need to go. And so Scott's carrying my suitcase already because, you know, I'm like, I'm going to run ahead. The New Yorker. I'm going to hail a cab, grab the suitcases and let's go. So he grabs the suitcases. And we know in one of them is an express pass. And just in the best reaction shot of all time ever. Unfortunately, it's not in ours, but it is in Floyd's bag.

[00:25:28] And Becca and Floyd flip the fuck out and get so excited. And it's just it's the two of them are just so perfect. Like you wouldn't think that day or that week or whatever. And when Phil says like, go. Right. It's such a humble jumble. I'm almost like, is somebody going to fall? Because I feel like I'm always waiting for someone to fall during this madness. And also, which is like, wow. I'm like looking through my screen trying to see if it happens.

[00:25:59] And the first thing I hear and mind you, I'm sure it was maybe something else. Scott! I say, oh, we're here. Because the New Yorker got the first cab. I found a cab almost immediately and I'm screaming, Scott. And so he comes and we get in the cab and we don't get there first, but we get there third, which is fine. But I was very I was like, look, I'm nothing if not loud. Yes. And if I need to hail a cab, I will hail a cab. And I did.

[00:26:25] I did subsequently find out that in L.A., like you don't really hail cabs. That's what I was thinking. But you do if you scream loud enough. So we got in a cab and we're told we're going to Panama City, Panama, not Florida, which is where Logan had been before. And we get to the airport and there's two flights. So it's five people on the first flight and six teams on the second flight. The first flight is Matt and Redmond, Becca and Floyd, Brooke and Scott, London and Logan and Seth and Olive.

[00:26:53] And I'm thinking we just need to get on that first flight because no one from the first flight ever goes home in the first flight. That's all we need. And so I was just so happy to get there. And then Jesse and Franny get there, even though they were driven to the airport. And they're on the second flight with Ashton Bank, Joey and Tara, Sarah and Shamir, Kevin and Jen and Liz and Mike. Liz and Mike sends a direction. Not great. I know this is with a cab, but they are not lucky when it comes to traveling between places. When Kevin showed up with that plane and gave it to the flight attendant. He took it off the counter.

[00:27:24] Oh, I was like, Kevin, I'm loving him. Now, is this the era of Amazing Race where. And again, it doesn't happen right now, but where you can buy multiple tickets. No. OK, so that has ended. Yes, that has ended. Once you buy a ticket, you are committed to that ticket. So but these were there were only two flights you could take. So this wasn't it will happen later in the season where you have free reign to buy any ticket that you want.

[00:27:52] But once you buy, we have a great moment that happens at a travel agency, which we'll get to later, which is hilarious. I have the best behind the scenes story. Caesar, come back for episode eight. Anyway, we get to the airport. People are talking to all about setting her up with that. And she's like, I don't think I don't think he's my type or I'm his type because we then learn that Seth is gay. He has a boyfriend. He's now married to a lovely man, different man. But we all get on the flight.

[00:28:21] Everyone's having such a nice time because this is really the first opportunity we have to talk to everyone and learn about everyone and sort of get the vibes on who's who and what's what. And I start learning that, you know, Joey's an ultra marathon runner and Scott's a CrossFitter and Sarah like teaches yoga and all of this firefighter who carries hundreds of pounds of gear up a lot of stairs. And I'm like, I am out of my league. Like.

[00:28:47] I was so convinced that my, you know, couple of gym classes and it's going to be great. And I know I've said this before, so I had back surgery six months before the race and I had done some rehab and I actually I had to run on camera for the CBS doctor so they could see that I actually was able to move. They have to talk to my surgeon, which they did. And thank you, Dr. Cuffman. So anyway, I was out of my depth. I'm like, I have to play smart because I'm not going to win this physical.

[00:29:15] There's no less physical person really. Maybe. I mean, Mike will tell you that he's not physically. He's not a runner either. We were the non runners. So we're there and you land in Panama and you have to pick a rental car and go to the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal. Well, first of all, when you was Scott got in that car, you said Will and Grace. I said, Brooke loves her gays. OK, what I actually said was one of us is a redhead. One of us is a lawyer.

[00:29:45] I'm a New Yorker. One of us is gay. Will and Grace. Like, that's perfect. They cut out the rest of it. But then they didn't make that our team name, probably because that was an NBC show and not on CBS. But whatever. I liked it, though. I did, too. I thought it was clever. Go ahead. I just think that one of the astounding thing, astoundish things of this episode was y'all get into the Panama Canal.

[00:30:13] Nobody in Panama knows where the Panama Canal. It's amazing to me. And I'm so glad they showed. We were lost for four hours. I'm pretty sure we drove the entire length of Panama. We had to turn around at a toll booth that was like the end of Panama and come back the other way. I don't. But everyone apparently got so lost. I don't know. It's like somebody coming to New York and saying, where's the Statue of Liberty? And me being like, hmm. I mean, I would just point to the water. I wouldn't know.

[00:30:42] Okay, well, give me a direction. I mean, but it depends on where on the island you at. But that was, I was like, how don't nobody know where the Panama Canal is? And also, like, the fact that y'all were lost. And again, maybe this was editing so you can maybe clear this up. But the fact that y'all said that when you got to the Panama Canal, you were shocked that you were still in third place. Shocked. We, we. To the point that y'all got out. And this one, okay.

[00:31:09] My first cuss out of the episode goes, the season goes to Brooke and Scott. I am a scholar of the amazing race via Brooke Cam High. Okay. Brooke, rule number seven on the amazing race. Yeah. You be lost for three hours. But when you see another team, my love, stay in your car. Okay. Like y'all, y'all was like.

[00:31:37] Ah, got like y'all was, y'all was doing too much talking. You don't know where the mother teams were. Your curse out should not be at me. It should be a Becca and Floyd. They should not have stopped to talk to us. Well, yeah, well, let's go. They were done. We had to get out of the car because we hadn't gotten our clue yet. We had to run to get the clue. So they had just gotten their clue. And they said there are a lot of clues left. And we were just shocked that we weren't last. And they were kind enough to chat with us for a minute. Now, good on them. They didn't wait for us because they shouldn't have.

[00:32:06] Speed it up, girl. Speed it up. Y'all was doing. And maybe you're right. Because maybe that was strategic on you and Scott to keep them there a little longer. But I'm like, y'all doing too much. You just said you were lost for three hours. Four hours. That's an extra two minutes. Y'all doing too much talking. Talking. Then I'm like, and was this editing? Did the other plane not land yet? Like y'all had a three hour lead in front of the other plane landing? Yeah, probably. Okay.

[00:32:36] I didn't really like that because that really, again, it's the first episode. And that really put someone on that second plane at a huge disadvantage. But credit to Shamir and Sarah who caught up to the first group, which shows that their sense of direction, he speaks fluent Spanish. So that was probably helpful. But I understand enough Spanish. It's just people kept saying that way. No, that way. No, that way. No, that way. I'm like, who was the one that said I speak better Spanish when I'm drunk? That's Jen.

[00:33:07] That's your girl. That's my girl. Because I know what she means. I mean, when I had two margaritas, baby. And I'm not even joking. When I had two margaritas, I could read Spanish. Mm-hmm. I'm not lying. I believe you think you can. Yeah. You know I lived two months in Mexico when I was in high school. So you should be able to do it sober. Si. Okay. So Seth and Olive get there first. They see Phil. That's awesome.

[00:33:37] Team Fun's wrapping in the back of their car. Brooke and Scott are snarking at each other. We were having fun, though, at that point where we understood each other's personalities. Where I'm like, I'm driving next time. And he's like, I'm laughing. Like, we're not mad yet. Anyway, Seth and Olive get there. And they're told to drive to the Rainforest Discovery Center in Gamboa and get their clue at the Canopy Tower. Back in Florida second. Scott and I see them there. And we start flipping out.

[00:34:04] Then Scott tells me when we get back in the car that I need to calm down. And you need to learn that telling someone to calm down never makes them calm. But I also was calm. I was just like, let's go. I wasn't not calm. You'll see me not calm. It wasn't that. Yeah. I was like, okay. Scott's trying it a little bit. Right? Like, but like I. And my job wasn't there. But obviously, you know, I know a Brooke. And like, I felt I could feel your excitement.

[00:34:31] And so, yeah, I was like, okay, Scotty, let's keep it cute. I don't think they showed it. But at the mat. I don't think they showed it because I just rewatched it. But at the mat, Phil said something about you do know never to tell a woman to calm down. Right? And Scott was like, yeah, I know now. And I was like, thank you. It doesn't make anybody calm. Well, good for you for speaking up, though. But I also felt like. I feel like I also said it in a nice way. Like telling me to calm down is not going to make me calm.

[00:35:01] But I mean, regardless, you saying it back. It's like one, somebody telling you to calm down when you're just excited to be on Amazing Race and you're in the top three. But also, like, I felt like. Foreshadow much? I don't know. There's foreshadowing. Also, speaking of foreshadowing, Liz is having trouble with her mat in the back of her car. Foreshadowing. Just remember, Max and Liz. Okay. Foreshadowing. And then, thanks.

[00:35:29] Child, he took me out when he said. I understood it. When you get. I get it. 135 degrees makes sense to me. But Ashton's face was like, what is. I don't. Bitch, left, right or straight. Okay, babe. It's not this way. It's this way. It's not fully. It makes sense. But they just don't. They didn't think the same way. I get it. No. Child, I would have been. If I were driving, I would have been cussing Vang out. But mind you, I just also love the fact that that's how he talks.

[00:35:59] Like 130 degrees. I'm going to start using that. Okay. But I also was like, oh, it's left, right or straight. That's fine. Or V or right. Okay. V or left. Meanwhile, Seth and Olive gets the canopy tower and they see the world's first season's first detour, which is shoot or scoot. And in shoot, you have to row out to this little area with these fish and you have to

[00:36:25] take a, I mean, I'm going to say bow and arrow, but like it's rickety and knock over two fish with this bow and arrow to get your next clue. And in scoots, you have to row this course straight line. Not that hard. You don't have to turn, but against professional rowers. And if you lose, which you will, unless you're one team, you get to go again and you get a 50 meter advantage and then another advantage and so on and so forth.

[00:36:54] So these are the choices as they were given to us. So Liz and Mike and Kevin and Jen are lost, but Scott, Scott, Seth and Olive decide to do scoots because they are strong. Becca and Floyd decide to do shoots because why not? It's more fun. Right. And then surprise people didn't. I'm surprised more people didn't do shoot. Like it's the only time.

[00:37:23] I think it's the only time we ever switched to detour. However, we decided to try shoot because they were in the same spot. You could see one from the other. It wasn't you have to drive different places. We're like, let's try this. Maybe we'll get lucky. Maybe we're good at it. And because let's get I have the strength of a wet noodle. And I was like, we're never going to beat the rowing team. So let's try shoot. And we were ahead. So we're like, let's give it a shot. London and Logan also try shoot and switch. Becca is the only one who completes it.

[00:37:49] When you left as you're leaving, it looks like Becca lands one fish. Did you have a moment of thinking like, no, we were a disaster. But we were laughing about it. I like that they showed. I mean, on our way to the shoot, like I'm dancing in the in the boat. And I'm like, let's see. I was having fun. And Scott's like, I'm just resting. Scott said, I get it. But like, I'm trying to keep I was trying to keep morale up. Give me a minute, girl. I've been driving for four hours.

[00:38:19] I don't got time to dance. I said, oh, Scott. But then we sort of we rebounded from that. We got in our little boat and he tried to do the shooting. And we both knew we were a disaster. Like his little arrow went like it did not go anywhere. But neither did really anybody else's. So except if you're Becca and that girl ended with a huge bruise, which she had for a while on her arm from that bow and arrow. Like it was it would look painful.

[00:38:44] So they get their shoot while Seth and Olive have done the scoots. Now, it takes Seth and Olive three times. Seth and Olive three times to do the scoot. So there's no world in which Brooke and Scott who get there next. And there's no other teams there yet are going to do it in one. The problem is Scott thinks we should be doing it in one. And sure, me too. But that's not happening. Two things you should know. One, there were crocodiles in that water. And two, I'm serious.

[00:39:13] That's why they stop it at darkness. Because apparently that's when the crocodiles come out. And two, wait, what was the two? I don't remember. Not important. But we didn't tip over. And that's a big deal because a lot of teams tipped over. And I was very proud that we did not. I mean, I have been in a boat. I've been in a canoe. I'm outdoorsy. You know, shout out to my stepdad, Mr. Jim, who used to take us to the Poconos. Multiple times a year.

[00:39:43] And so, for me, I understand not knowing how to row. But some of the people, like... All the people were switching sides. I don't know why you would do that. You stay on this side. I stay on this side. Deep, deep down and... Deep down and... Like I was screaming at this... Meditieren, Yoga, Joggen, nichts entspannt mich. Echt?

[00:40:11] Mich entspannt meine Steuer total. Steuer? Spannend. Hol dir dein Geld zurück. Tiefen entspannt mit Visu-Steuer. Oh, also all of the boats had a name on the side. Our boat was called the Oh No. Oh.

[00:40:41] I mean, that's pretty perfection. It's hilarious. So that was our boat. We were laughing until we were not, when we lost. And then we were about to go the second time, and Matt and Redmond show up. And I'm like, don't worry. No one's getting this on the first try. It's very difficult. They are the only team that got it on the first try, which did not help our morale, or Scott thinking that we should have done it, because I guess it was reasonable for him to think that every other team did it in one,

[00:41:09] and we were just the losers who couldn't do it in one. No. And when he found out that it took everybody else three, I think he softened on it a little bit. It was at the end of the leg that he found that out. But we did it in three tries, and just after Matt and Redmond, we were in fourth place. I'm mad, but in our cast assessment, I said, give me a train ticket to Matt and Redmond. And my, I didn't know. There's nothing they can't do. I didn't know it was going to be a canoe boat, but I'd like a ticket on that canoe boat, please. Okay? Because I... They were monsters.

[00:41:39] I don't know how you beat the professional team when you're actually starting at the same point. I mean, it was incredible. I was like, this is... There's... I mean, I don't even know what to say to it. Like, they're just... You have to be that good to beat the team. And I think their professional team is really trying, because I don't think the race wanted anybody to get it in one. Maybe that... I don't know. Maybe they weren't trying. Whatever. Whatever. Anyway, Seth and Oliver are out of there, and they are told to go to the Pitsa, which is Cinta Costera, which is a huge Panamanian flag, which you have to find.

[00:42:09] Still not easy to find. People still got very lost. Yeah. But they get there first, and I think won $5,000, but it wasn't air. Maybe it was $2,500 apiece. It wasn't air, but they got a prize. And then Becca gets her second fish, and they're in second place. London and Logan are trying the shooting. It doesn't go well, because it didn't go well for anybody else. So they decide to change to the rowing. Matt and Redmond have gotten their thing in one try. So they're in third place. And then we are in fourth at that point.

[00:42:39] And Shamir and Sarah decide to scoot, and Ashton and Vank decide to shoot until they don't. Because they then decide to have a very long discussion about how he shot a bow and arrow in sixth grade, and she shot a crossbow 18 months ago. That was seven years ago. And Vank was like, but it's the same. I was like, Vank? But I... I mean, a crossbow is different, but stop the stepping of it. There's no rule that says only one of you can shoot. Take turns.

[00:43:09] Try it. Whatever. Very true. Now, normally I would get mad at somebody like Vank, but I can't because I love Vank. But I do think they did lose a lot of time debating about it, but I do feel like that's a smart strategy because I have seen, because at this point, you know, I'm a... I am a junior Amazing Race savant. Yes. That there will be some roadblocks or detours that may be taking five minutes ahead of time. Like we've seen

[00:43:38] reason 736-2004 why I love Angie and Danny on their season where a lot of people take off. Angie and Danny pull that map out and they map the course. And so like, I... Although I was like, Vank, what are you doing? Just... Like, just go. So I saw a lot in him that I'm like, I hope that we see more of this like critical thinking ahead. Vank is the king of the maps, by the way. He always had a map. He was...

[00:44:07] And they didn't give us maps. He was like... He was good with maps. But in this... He bought a map or he was buying a map? No, we were smart enough to like get maps either at a tourism place or you bought it at the airport or whatever. You just said Vank always had a map. No, several of us got maps. But he would always... He was very good at directions. Like if you could find your way behind Vank, you followed Vank. So the thing is this. I would get if it was a roadblock and only one person could do it. But why are you even having this discussion? You try then.

[00:44:36] You try and whatever. So Seth and Oliver are at the pit stop and they meet Ms. Panama. Becca and Floyd are at the pit stop. They're in second. And then back to the detour. We are in fourth place. Matt and Redman get to the pit stop. Brooke and Scott gets the pit stop. We are shocked. When Phil says fourth, my face just... I literally... I wish they had it in there. I look at him. I go, how the fuck loss did everybody else get? Like that's not even possible. And then he asked Scott if he made a wrong decision with his partner. And Scott was like... Scott said, no.

[00:45:08] And I love messy Phil. Phil said, was there a pause there? And then mind you, the way I screamed Brooke when Scott says no and Brooke... If anybody... If you know Brooke, right? If anyone knows Brooke, Brooke turning to Scott and saying, did you really want another partner? That was a real Brooke moment. Like the... They were all real Brooke moments. There's no bullshit there. But just the fact that I was like,

[00:45:39] oh, like... Brooke was serious about that, right? Because like... Yeah. But I was like... I don't like to feel that I'm letting people down. Like I... I know. I was very well aware, especially in seeing everybody at the start line, that I wasn't going to be in the group of fast people. And I wasn't going to be in the group of strong people. But I love this show so much and have seen all of them and have tried out so many times and wanted it so badly that I just refused to be the reason that my team went home.

[00:46:08] Like I didn't want to be the reason. Like I mean, sometimes, you know, it's a cab driver. You just get bad luck. But sometimes, it's somebody's fault. And I was going to be damned if it was going to be my fault. So I just felt... It definitely wasn't yours. And you are in the Bryce Isaiah Junior Savant Amazing Race sweet spot. Okay. Because you don't want to be in that, like the lead. Like where you and Scott fall, in my opinion, is a great spot. So listen. But I mean, I don't know. We're not in a bad spot

[00:46:38] at this point. So meanwhile, everyone scooting, everyone scooting is tipping over. I don't know. I didn't ever feel like our boat was going to tip. But all of a sudden, everyone's boats start tipping. Vank and Ashton decide to switch after tipping. This is where they have that long conversation about who knows how to shoot what. And then they decide they're going to switch back because I don't know why you would ever switch at that point. You get a lead every time. You're going to win eventually. So if you're already there, don't waste the time to switch. Shamir and Sarah show up. They were on the second flight and they are just so excited.

[00:47:08] They've caught up to people on the first flight, which is a real testament to their sense of direction. Um, because they must have picked up a few hours. And then at the same time, they do this cool split screen where you have London and Logan, Joey and Tara, Vank and Ashton, Jesse and Franny, all, I think on the third try each, get their, um, clue from scooting. And then Jen and Kevin are lost by the canopy tower. Mike and Liz have decided to start,

[00:47:37] start shooting and then decide to row instead, even though Liz has never picked up an aura a day in her life. And Mike starts talking about how he knows there are lakes in Missouri. He's so funny. And at the pit stop, you have Shamir and Sarah in fifth, Tara and Joey in sixth, Vank and Ashton in seventh, London and Logan in eighth, where Phil tries to set them up. And he's like, he's pretty. She's pretty. You two should be a couple. And then Jesse and Franny are in ninth and they're in a much better mood now because they are no longer fighting

[00:48:07] and they have decided they are best friends and they're both fantastic. I love it. And we have two teams left. And I would say that this season has one of the most dramatic first episodes ever because I'm still to this day, not completely sure. I guess it has to be a crocodile thing. So listen, I keep tipping. They're getting dejected. I know this feeling. I know you can curse somebody out. And Jen and Kevin show up at the detour. Liz or Mike are in their third attempt

[00:48:36] and they finally get it and they're in 10th place. And Kevin and Jen cannot do the detour anymore because of, you know, crocodiles. Tell me what you want to, you want to tell me now what the glasses. So here's the thing. I like Liz and Mike. I'm rooting for them. I am. But my God today, I'm root. I was rooting for Kevin and Jen. And here's my thing. Amazing rates.

[00:49:07] People are getting lost for three hours. You have a plane that's three hours behind other people. How is it Jen and Kevin's fault that they can't complete it because it's dark? Like, I don't know. That kind of pissed me off. Like, y'all should have had a contingency plan. Or it's like when they got to the... And because also... Mind you, also, I don't really know because mind you, I'm believing the edit. It seemed like they got to fill

[00:49:35] rather quickly. And the other people did. And so, like, mind you, again, mind you, I'm believing that it seemed like an hour. I felt like the two hours was a bit much because, like, that wasn't their fault. Like, y'all designed this. Like, that's not their fault. Okay, so here's what I'll say to that. If you can't do a detour, if you quit a detour... They didn't quit. I agree. Sorry, I'm sorry. There's a two-hour penalty. But they didn't quit.

[00:50:05] Maybe it's a four-hour penalty. You know what? I take that back. I think if you quit a detour, it's a... Shoot. Roadblock is six. Detour is four. Regardless. They gave you less than the normal penalty because now I'm thinking back to the Globetrotters quitting that phone thing. And I think it was four hours. But that was a roadblock. So maybe it is two and four hours. Somebody will correct me. I'm surprised that my brain's not giving it to me right now. I blame the whiskey. So anyway, the thing is this.

[00:50:34] I really can't honestly believe that they expected people to get lost for that long. And everyone else on the second flight got to fill before it got dark. And not only to fill before it got... Like, not only finished the detour before it got dark, but got to fill before it got dark. So I get what you're saying. I have watched this a few times over the years. And I'm like, hmm, that's interesting because it is not their fault they couldn't keep going. And let me just add this. I do think maybe that there could have been

[00:51:03] some other... Something. But both of those tasks were out on the water. So they couldn't have said... And mind you, and if you have a crocodile... Because now I'm pissed. The people that I fell in love with in the cash assessment, these people that like... You know... Because also, let's just be clear. Anthony and Bailey, they would have got that rowing on the first challenge. Okay? So we get that out the way. But mind you, I am loving Kevin and... Jen. Jen.

[00:51:31] I'm loving their... I'm loving them being like... We're like brother and sister. I'm loving him poking her like, oh, this will get annoying. I'm just... Because mind you, they call her the... What do they call her? The Barbie? Asian Barbie. They expected her to be something. And she was locked in. And mind you, Kevin was a little Anthony and Bailey. But I loved them. And I just felt like... If y'all know... It's crocodiles, then should you have two challenges

[00:52:01] on the water? Mm-hmm. I hear you. I don't know. I hear you. Because... And again, no slight... to Olive and... Seth. Seth. Wait, no. Mm-hmm. Seth and all. First place? No. Oh. The last place. Mike and Liz. I like Mike and Liz. Me too. I do. But like, I'm sorry. My heart's with Kevin and Jess.

[00:52:31] I wouldn't have chosen either of these teams to go home personally. I liked both of them a lot. Well, who would you have chosen to go home? I'm not gonna say that. People would have chosen to not go home. Not this time they didn't. So, but you know, whatever. I wouldn't have chosen either of these teams. Anyway, Kevin and Jen get this two-hour penalty, which is, I mean, gut-wrenching. Liz and Mike did not get there right away. It was... Kevin and Jen sat there for a while. So Liz and Mike got lost, but they did get there

[00:53:00] before the two hours were up. And Kevin and Jen get eliminated in what I think is a very harsh first leg. Well, baby, I don't know about a harsh because I think last rewatch, I think that first, first, first elimination in the sewer. Yeah, with the license plates, I mean, yeah, at least they got to leave the country or the sewer or whatever. Yeah. So Kevin and Jen are out. Now, Jen,

[00:53:29] like I think we said last week, Gwen did the challenge. She is still a model, still fabulous, traveling all over the world, still doing swimsuit work, still looks incredible incredible. Ten years later, Kevin is living his best life in San Diego. We had lunch together a few months ago. He's amazing, wonderful. No. And he is a partner. No. Wait, hold on. Wait, what's his last name? It's Kevin Lang.

[00:53:58] Last name is NG, but also he's straight. But OK, I'll connect you both. He's fantastic and was the athletic trainer for the rugby team. He works at this. He's wonderful human. They both are. So anyway, I'm excited for you to watch the next one because it only gets crazier from here. Well, we are off to a great start. I'm excited to watch the next one because I know what happens. I will say in the middle there,

[00:54:29] I worry. Well, listen, that's what we're here for. If you're going to comment, comment with kindness. Yes. Well, listen, Brooke, I'm excited. I was a little nervous, but I mean, also, you know, so sorry for Kevin and my girl, Jess. But Jen, I'm invested. I'm like, I was like, I don't know if I'm going to get into it, but like, I love the fact that I get into it and I hope you at home watching or listening are getting into it as well.

[00:54:58] We're going to be covering episode two next week. So please let us know on YouTube, Instagram, Instagram, X, on the Reddit, wherever y'all watching and following.
